I think these "special edition" bose QC 15s in brown/black/silver are the bomb doc com. (I have the regualr Silver and black version of these.) http://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Acoustic-Cancelling-Headphones/dp/B00EWJHRMY

Bose has a newer model, that don't look quite as good. http://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-25-Headphones-Black/dp/B00M1NEUKK/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I'm hoping they do another special edition in brown for the QC 25.

I think it is hard to beat the Grado SR80.

It is a ridiculous value at $99 and exceptional headphones at that price point. Diminishing returns kicks in pretty heavily after listening to music through these headphones. Along with that, they carry a semi-vintage style that should work with any type of prep/trad outfits.

From the sound of the post, you seem far more interested in the appearance than the function. These headphones are excellent and look the part. Are there better headphones? Yes, but you'll pay for it and you probably won't get the same aesthetic.

Grado has a "reference" series where the headphones have mahogany. They cost 7 times as much and they don't sound 7 times better. They also have the GS1000E which is a fantastic headphone and has much bolder wooden accents. It also costs about $1000 and I don't feel it is worth it unless you are listening to analog and/or lossless music through extremely high end equipment. You'll hear how crappy the quality is between an mp3 or a lossless format.

To list some non-Grado options that would fit the aesthetic a bit...

  • Sennheiser Momentum

  • AKG K 701/702

  • Audeze LCD-2/3/X (VERY distinctive looking headphones and about $2000)

I was just telling someone about how classy these look. I'm sure /r/audiophile would approve as well.

If I can recommend one thing, it's to flip through "The Preppy Handbook" written in 1980. The author came out with a new version of the book recently called "True Prep". There are entire chapters on brands in each. The new book also includes how Prep has changed over the years, and what is acceptable and what is not.

I really recommend the book. If nothing else, it's a nice coffee table book. Personally, it's my Bible.

Length and style. 5"-7" inseam and stay away from "board shorts," etc.

While Speedo isn't really a preppy brand, these trunks actually look great and are my go-to this summer

I use this hanger for my ties and bow ties. It works really well, saves space, and is cheap.
