I've done a lot of reading on this subject and pedal purchases. My 2 cents on it is. (your on the right track with mid boost EQ) a cheap way of doing that is grabing a Boss EQ used for $50ish from guitar center.

Then there's the beloved Dunlop Q-Zone reissue. Its a little spendy but instant QOTSA (as Troy says in his rig rundown)

I gotta agree with the Fulltone Ultimate Octave it is a great pedal that Josh has used in the past even up through Them Crooked Vultures. The white knob is more acurrate but you can grab a black knob for half the price.

Another great pedal for that mid-range boost is the stone deaf PDF1 (or the new PDF2) this pedal emulates the Maestro Parametric Filter MPF-1 (which is very expensive)
https://reverb.com/item/118955-stone-deaf-fx-parametric-distortion-filter-pdf-1

A great pedal stacking is:

Ultimate Octave < Q-Zone < Stone Deaf < Boss EQ.

Tons of mid boost with that.

Well there you have it.

I always recommend Over The Years and Through The Woods. It's a live album and honestly the live performances is a big part of what makes Queens special. It also acts as a great hits with some deep cuts. With this you'll miss out on the last 3 albums, but it's a great head start and will give you an idea of their range as a band.

I use these. They're awesome. They pop out from the wall. I have all the strokes albums with some strip lighting and I have the 3 varieties of like clockwork on my bedroom wall with some up lighting.

So here's some classic answers:

  1. Bass amp.
  2. Humbuckers.
  3. MID.TONE.EVERYTHING.
  4. Cleaner than you'd think, but crank the gain.
  5. C Tuning (Dunlop strings I think)
  6. These pics, just to be exact.

Check out this video and this video for a bit more on how you can get a similar sound. Neither are exact, obviously, but they'll get ya there.

I just looked at the sleeve notes of my CD copy, the photo was taken somewhere from this book.

It's a really beautiful image for an album cover now I look at it.

I second the U-Turn. All you need is the basic. At least to start. You'll need a phono preamp too and I suggest this. 1/3rd the price of the one uturn makes and it does the job great.

I was literally going to post this question here today for the same reason. I have this shirt and was thinking it would look great

According to the booklet, the original photo it's from Mark Gabor's 1972 Photography book "The Pin Up: A Modest History".

I really think it's a hoax, but it would be really cool if she was.

Yeah, I was gonna say everyone nowadays seems to use the Dunlop Tortex picks, but just realized these are Dunlop brand too.

I've never seen them in my local shop, just this version (which may be the same thing, they're really great). Dunlops website and eBay seem to have the exact same design as Troy's instead of what I found above on Amazon.

While I agree vinyl is way overpriced than what it used to be, a legit copy of SftD in the past would likely cost you hundreds, and it's only & $26 on [Amazon](

Desert Sessions Vols. 9 & 10 are available on iTunes for $9.99 and on Amazon for $8.99 at the time of this post.

For the other volumes, I think you may need to resort to torrenting or perusing file-sharing websites if you want to download them.

Edit: Added link/info to Amazon.

I have this DVD. It's called Later...With Jools Holland: Even Louder. I bought it in 2006 but only watched it recently. It's got some other good QOTSA related stuff like The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret, and Halo of Ashes by Screaming Trees.

I don't think the deluxe is sold out... Available on Amazon here: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B071GB8V4N/ and Matador here: http://store.matadorrecords.com/villains

Now all you need is this bad boy.
