Done. :)

We've had cameras on the mind for years and we had a webcam I configured in our Dog room for watching the dogs while away but admittedly I procrastinated on outfitting the rest of the house.

After this incident I re-purposed my two old Samsung Galaxy S4 phones into IP Webcams and combined that with a 3mo subscription to cloud video recording service for offsite video archives as an immediate, temporary solution.

That should give me enough time to save for what I eventually wanted as a permanent security solution. There is a company that specializes in making enterprise solutions affordable and more practical for smaller businesses (and hobbyists like myself). I've had my eye on their NVR and IP Cameras for a while and now seems like a better time than any to make this investment.

I'm great with electronics and networking cables but i'm less so with construction and new equipment installations. If you are serious, I really would like to PM you for an ear and maybe even illicit your help installing the equipment on the house if it isn't an imposition. Maybe I can even offer some of my expertise for anything in return, or i'm willing to pay even. Network cabling is my forte but not hardware installation of equipment like cameras. I have a PoE switch i'll use so we wouldn't need to worry with running power and all the codes involved with that, just mounting the equipment.

I'm also a Navy guy btw, I just had an unfortunate set of experiences which were wildly different than the typical Navy guy experience. Partly because i'm such a sensitive wiener. I wish I had never joined to be honest. I only wanted a better life for myself, that was all. I didn't want to participate in mass murder or get bombed, or shot at, or cleaning up the alive and dead bodies from Mr Bush's hurricane Katrina fuck-up. Woah, sorry a little trigger there for a moment... :)

Link to my craigslist posting: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/sys/5667199085.html

Asking $1250

The post:

Sold off my desktop last year because I needed a mobile workstation/gaming setup. I no longer need one. Truth be told, I never needed one, but considering I never move it...no reason to hold on to it.

Total cost of the entire package new (links included to amazon and NewEgg below): $2401 + Shipping charges from NewEgg - I use Amazon Prime, so if I order from there most of the time so I don't pay shipping, but this exact model isn't sold anywhere by NewEgg.

I figure cut the price in half, get a screaming laptop, and a bunch of fantastic peripherals. This is an AMAZING machine, top notch. Just time for me to part ways.

I am willing to accept trades for a desktop, but it must be in mint condition (as my equipment all is), and it must be comparably spec'd.

Laptop Specs: ($1499 new)

When you buy tubes, check out your filling nozzles. If you have a tiny nozzle, you'll be there all day to fill it up. You'll be there all day to let out the air. I like the high volume manual air pump. The trick to inflating quickly is multiple pumps. (https://www.amazon.com/WEIFA-Mattress-Universal-Inflatables-Plastic/dp/B07FNRRYG8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=high+volume+air+pump+inflatables+manual&qid=1564660874&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1)

Get the biggest nozzle possible. It's worth an extra $ for quick release. Girls tend to like tubes with a solid bottom. Boys tend to like open bottom tubes. A solid bottom tube works great for a spare and for cooler transport.

Sunscreen...sunscreen...sunscreen.

We've been twice this year. We'll go again as the nights cool a bit more. There seemed to be more limbs and trees this year or maybe water was lower. I got scraped and bruised up pretty good both times. Be careful of underwater hazards.

I just made a comment on supplies, so check my most recent history.

If you are 100% unprepared, you can at least get some cash out of the ATM and write down contact numbers. You can try getting food and water, but stores be going crazy at the moment, so good luck. If you get your hands on packs of water, it will be a help though.

If you have amazon prime, you can always try ordering some things from them and hopefully they get to you before Friday. I recommend this lantern, they’re pretty great.

As for the hiking my wife and I have been exploring hikies in this book http://www.amazon.com/100-Classic-Hikes-North-Carolina/dp/1594850542, and we have found some nice ones. if you go a few hours west, there are some great views, like hanging rock, chimney rock, and grandfather mountain among others. certainly some great biking trails around lake crabtree and umstead, also falls lake has some nice hiking and trails.

There's actually an entire book about this Hope and Despair in the American City: Why there are no bad schools in Raleigh. Basically not matter where you wind up you have a respectable school. Yes some are better than others, but those often come with their own set of problems (my friends from places like Cary HS came to college obsessed with academic success at the cost of pretty much everything else).

NC is currently not in a great place politically (for explanation) which is one of the reasons posting on here is slightly fraught with people freaking out. But as one of the people that's been regularly going to protest the state legislature, this is still the greatest place I've ever lived. And I'm happy my parents moved so I could grow up here.

Buddy of mine taught me all about beard care last year and it's been life-changing. Electric trimmers make sharp edges so that causes intense itching. Use comb and scissors instead. I have a special beard shampoo I use maybe once a week because natural oils are your friend. Pretty much every day I brush it out, oil it, apply balm to lock in moisture, then comb it evenly through. I get lots of compliments and it's not even super long or anything, just well kept. Here's a link to the package I use. Inexpensive and lasts for months and months, even with daily uses.

We put in a privacy lock (only can be locked/unlocked from inside). We had the guy come in to spray for insects. Wife said he never knocked and came straight in. It's easy to remove when we leave and only cost $15. https://www.amazon.com/HardwareX-Supply-Reinforcement-Privacy-Construction/dp/B0777BL2T3/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=privacy+lock&qid=1555540370&s=gateway&sr=8-10

I have an older TV and I had to get one of these to work with my Sonos playbase because my TV didn't output optical audio from HDMI sources.

This solution only works when the video input is from an external device like an Apple TV or Roku.

Urban planning, especially roads, is one of my weird obsessions. It's one of the most fascinating things I've ever encountered.

I'm currently reading The Big Roads, a book about the history of the road system in the country. https://www.amazon.com/Big-Roads-Visionaries-Trailblazers-Superhighways/dp/0547907249

And after that, I move onto this: https://www.amazon.com/Grid-Average-Neighborhood-Systems-World/dp/1609611381

On The Grid actually uses Raleigh as the subject matter. I'm excited for it.

On my motorcycle I keep a brake disc lock alarm, it's a pretty good deterrent, If it gets moved it lets out a warning chirp, then if it gets touched again a blaring 110Db alarm goes off, it would no doubt startle the dude, and alert you to someone messing with it. They're super cheap and worth every penny. Even if it doesn't fit on your brake discs you could easily attach it to the spokes if you had to.
