I played the crap out of Disney's Coaster on DOS in the 6 years between its release and RCT's. Was the best thing ever to be able to watch those VHS tapes of people riding roller coasters (Yes, this was a thing in the 90s and it was awesome.) and then build my own coaster and ride it. They didn't have confidence in my abilities, but those guys are jerks. I'm pretty sure this was the precursor to Disney's Ultimate Ride.
A year after Coaster came out, Bullfrog released Theme Park. This hardly focused on coaster design at all and instead put its effort towards the logistics of running a park and managing finances. I can almost remember myself at age 4 squealing with excitement in my chair to finally make a park good enough to sell and move to a different plot of land to start over. That and the fact that I didn't know how to negotiate properly so I just made the hands meet. (Can't find any pictures of the handshake or auction screens, sorry.)
I asked my parents if they remember how they first bought be RCT, and they think it was in a Scholastic Book Fair. I'm not sure if RCT was ever in one of those book fairs, but I wouldn't doubt that if it was, I bought it. I don't know how many times I bought SimCity 2000 through bundles in those things, but at least 2 or 3 copies survived. I don't know if I actually ever bought a book from there until Harry Potter came out.
> because this specific blog post didnt mention the other 3 themes, they are now DLC,
Okay, that's fair. They have mentioned 3 themes previously. Although, the screenshots that included the various themes have had a large response from the community that they're dissatisfied. Disagree with me if you wish, but the majority opinion based off the forums disagrees with you.
> hey are now DLC, and that somehow they said they are not making new
Given Atari's record of DLC, I wouldn't be surprised. Would you? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, yet again, because it's an assumption. But, it's a relatively safe assumption since every game in the past 5 years has included DLC. Why would this be different?
> and that somehow they said they are not making new, better looking assets, and are just polishing up the old models, which they never said anything about one way or the other (if you can give me their exact quote that supports your comment, great).
You keep deferring to this argument, but there is a fine difference between temporary assets, new assets, and polishing assets. The existing assets, even if polished, I can't imagine a huge leap in quality. Think of it this way: If you play Final Fantasy X, and then played Final Fantasy X HD, you'll notice that there isn't that huge of a difference. Sure, you can notice a quality improvement, but it still looks just about the same.
> you are blatantly jumping to conclusions to make a rage filled opinion
Yes, because rage-induced opinions have elegantly formed sentence structure.
> again, i think you would do very well at kotaku.
I would do horrible, because see above. Since you're criticizing me like a child would, I would recommend you work for Kotaku with your disregard of proper punctuation, sentence structure, and your keen sense (or lack thereof) of fallacy logic in argumentative structures. This book will help with the latter one.
Where to Buy RCT1
>In general, you can check:
>
> Amazon
> eBay
>* GOG (During GOG sales, the games get really cheap.)
Both expansions add significant amounts of content to the game and are highly recommended. "Deluxe" and "Gold" versions include both expansions. The cheapest location to buy RCT1 is:
If both stores are selling for the same price and you can't decide which one to buy:
GOG games are totally DRM-free. You can install them as you please, on as many computers as you want. If you don't play many video games on your computer, GOG may be the version to get.
Steam games have DRM. People who play a lot of games on their computer generally like Steam, and would prefer it over GOG. If you already have other games on Steam, it might be more convenient to buy RCT on Steam. Steam Family Sharing also allows you to share your game with other real-life friends (to be confirmed whether RCT1 / RCT2 work with family sharing).
Where to Buy RCT2
>In general, you can check:
>
> Amazon
> eBay
>* GOG (During GOG sales, the games get really cheap.)
There are three main components of RCT2:
Frontier Developments went on to make all of RCT3 (Chris Sawyer was not involved). The Wacky Worlds and Time Twister expansion packs do not add much, and they can be safely removed or ignored. RCT2: "Triple Thrill Pack" (USA) and RCT2: "Deluxe" (Europe) include the game and both expansions. There are two major unofficial add-ons to RCT2:
Several other fan-made scenarios, rides, and scenery options are available.
Where to Buy
If you want to buy digitally, these two are your best bet (unless somewhere else has a sale):
If both stores are selling for the same price and you can't decide which one to buy:

Sales
No sales are currently running, as of this writing. It seems one sale happens at least every 6 months. Past sales:

I have no opinion of the expansions, but they were made by Frontier Developments. Frontier also made the original game. Chris Sawyer, creator of the first two games, had little to do with RCT3. "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum!" includes both expansions. The cheapest location to buy RCT3 is:
SALE - RCT3: Platinum ($10)
There already is a board game, but it wasn't much fun. I was playing with people who like amusement parks and board games and none of us really understood the premise of the game as the rules were confusing and it seemed a lot more like Monopoly than Roller Coaster Tycoon.

And here is where you can buy it... http://amzn.com/B00005YXUL
I got it for about $30.00 a few years ago.
cool. So this is what I need? Why is 8 cheaper than 7? Sorry for all the questions, I do appreciate the help.
RCT2 is really good value.
You mean stuff like this: https://www.amazon.com/Rollercoaster-Tycoon-Game-Megapack-PC-DVD/dp/B01M5BXF54 ?
Looks fine to me. Even RCT3 was released 15 years ago, so bundling them and for this price seems very plausible to me.
Nope, there are legit boxes of that, seen one in a store months ago. Looks like this https://www.amazon.com/Rollercoaster-Tycoon-Game-Megapack-PC-DVD/dp/B01M5BXF54
Amazon is showing it coming out on the 30th http://www.amazon.com/RollerCoaster-Tycoon-World-Online-Game/dp/B016CG5B1S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458759781&sr=8-1&keywords=roller+coaster+tycoon+world
I just found this searching around
https://www.amazon.com/Rollercoaster-Tycoon-3-Platinum-Download/dp/B004APAEL6
Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for or how it works I don’t use amazon.
(if you can't find them, all C&C games are available in a pack for $15.48 on Amazon)
Coaster Crazy technically is on Android, but seems to be broken currently. https://www.amazon.com/Frontier-Developments-Ltd-Coaster-Deluxe/dp/B00HH7LIFA
