I would suggest starting with Dan Simmon's Hyperion Cantos if you like to be immersed in great world building. They're long and a good series to dive into. Also suggest his Ilium and Olympus – well worth reading. Just finished Black Milk by DW Moore: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Milk-DW-Moore-ebook/dp/B01L8L757U Great story and sums up everything I love about sci-fi. Hope this helps.
Debut novel "Beneath the Silver Rose" is now $.99 for a limited time.

Heroic, low-magic fantasy for adults. Two books in the series are out. More on the way.
[The Martian] (http://www.amazon.com/Martian-Novel-Andy-Weir-ebook/dp/B00EMXBDMA/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1417752082&sr=1-1&keywords=the+martian)
This is currently the top seller on amazon. It sounds like it has an apollo 13, survival feel to it.
