Those things are such shit. Talk to the city. They will credit your water bill for under the counter filters. See if they will go for a $270 RO system. Then get this. Pretty easy to install yourself.

Worked in the industry and this is true for HVAC duct work. You don't need to routinely clean your ducts and the only time you should is when there is a health/respiratory problem (allergens) or enough crap to block air, which is hardly ever unless you drop a football down the ducts.

Dryer vent is a different story though and I would recommend if you don't have one of these to get one. Your dryer vent should be kept clean for obvious reasons and will accumulate a ton of shit in them. I have one of these traps. This is downstream from the lint catcher in the dryer and it's unbelievable how much shit the second one collects.
