It is all about being consistent, immediate consequences, and showing it right and wrong. If it pees or poops in the house, you need to catch it as it happens. Anything after, maybe can bring it to the accident, yell and bring it outside but it will be far less effective. I overdo my anger(i mean it is going to happen) and rush the puppy outside. When you take them outside and they pee/poop, offer a lot of praise.

Our current samoyed(16 weeks) was slower to train than our priors on other things, but she only had 1 or 2 poop accidents and 5 or 6 pees in the house. At night I made her sleep on the bed with us and now keep her in our room(she lays on a cool mat on the floor most of the night). She never peed in our bedroom. At first, I would bring her out maybe once in the middle of the night. During the day, I worked from home early on so she would be in her crate, or within site of me and I was pretty attentive. Of course, I kept her on tile or something easy to clean when possible. Being close and really bonding with the puppy will also likely make them care more what your reaction is.

In summary, immediate anger when they fail, praise when they do well. Bring the pee pads back, they are a crutch. There is no right place to pee in a house. When it does happen, this stuff is amazing for cleanup. Later you can use it for the occasional throw up or other bio issues.

I usually use Chris Christensen White on White and it does a good job of making my dogs look nice for the shows. I also heard really great things about 1st in Line, these products were actually developed by a Samoyed owner/breeder, so I want to try it after I'm done with my current gallon of White on White :P One of my friends accidentally stained her Samoyed's coat with pure Aloe Vera extract (stains it pink) and she tried so many different products to get it out and only 1st in Line did the trick.

For a cheaper, easier available alternative you can try Espree Classic Care Bright White, which is sold at Petco. I use it on my dogs when I just want to wash them in-between shows.

Orange already covered most of what I would recommend.

I will say though 6 hours isn't all that much to a puppy, assuming he's ~3-4 months old you probably want to stop once or twice just to let him potty. that's not even a full night of sleep for context, something I'm sure you hope he can sleep through in the very near future. Puppies (and dogs in general) sleep a lot more than humans do, typically falling in the 12+hour/day range.

I'd expect the pup is getting to play with littermates and will be pretty tired before you pick him up, and will fall more-or-less right to sleep.

Have a crate, and try to make it as comfortable as possible, old towels or blankets at the bottom that can be removed in case of accidents, and nested in otherwise. Some way to provide water. Either Frozen Water bottles, or heated pads depending on the dog may help it settle and get comfortable as well, breeder might be able to make recommendations here.

Don't expect the pup to love you right away. It is a sammy so there's pretty good odds it will love you immediately, but at the end of the day you're a stranger stealing him from the family he knows. Just try to give him a safe space that is his - honestly sitting in that space and forcing yourself on him may make things worse instead of better.

Make sure the pups needs are met and you stop to give it potty breaks - especially if you notice it drinking a lot, but 6 hours should be fine w/o much issue.

We've spent a lot on our Samoyed thus far, but the best ~$40 we spent was on the PetSafe Easy Walk Dog Harness.

Samoyeds are born to pull sleds and work, so we struggled with our puppy pulling a lot when we walked. After 5 months of pulling using a normal collar on walks, we tried out the Easy Walk harness and the pulling stopped instantaneously. For my wife who was having a bit of a hard time controlling the puppy as she got bigger, it's been a life saver. Overall, it's a lot nicer to walk when the dog isn't pulling.

With that said, the harness alone doesn't stop bad pulling behavior, it just makes it uncomfortable for them to do so. To actually fix the behavior will require training, but in the meantime, walks are much more enjoyable when the dog walks next to you.

The X-pen I got for fencing mine indoors turned out to be too lightweight for other than temporary holding pen for my puppy. I gated off two rooms closest to the back door. You can get gates that are adjustable to a fairly wide range of opening, and get additional panels for making dividers. I got [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L8JIO4G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it's held up well. She hasn't been able to climb it because the slats are mostly vertical.

*adding-gating has definitely been helpful when I want her to have some freedom outside the crate but can't keep my eye trained on her every second. She'll pick up anything not nailed down in a split second. Right now everything in my house is up on something counter height and pushed to the back. Getting a Samoyed puppy is a great incentive to minimize clutter ; )

Are you flying the pup home in cargo or as a carry on? If the former, I would just ask the breeder about what size 10-week-olds would be in their line and get the appropriate airline-approved kennel (I think it differs between carriers). If the latter, I would actually see what the airline regulations are about the size of a carrier since it will need to fit underneath the seat. I would then crosscheck this with the breeder to see if the puppy will fit comfortably under the seat at that age; otherwise, you'll have to go cargo.

Whatever you choose, I would suggest to get something off of Amazon or something and just ship it to the breeder's address. It'll mean less luggage for you and more time for the breeder to get the puppy acquainted with the cramped space it'll have to be comfortable with for the duration of your flight.

I flew my 9-week-old male puppy in this underneath a Jetblue seat. He was the largest one in his litter and he barely fit in that carrier, which barely fit under the seat. I expanded the carrier during the flight (zipped up only when landing and taking off),and he just slept through the entire thing.

I have a gel anti fatigue floor mat in my kitchen that my two sammies love to lay on, more than the fabric beds I have.

They like it so much that I just bought a smaller one from Amazon just for them. It's 20" x 36", obviously cool to them (I have tile floors and they prefer the mat), and is $36 which is a great price for a dog bed!

Plus, if yours doesn't like it for any reason then you can put it in front of your sink like I have my original one that they both covet now (72" long).

We have a cat that likes to do this too sometimes. Also a toddler.

You can buy cover knobs to make it so they can’t get bumped to “on” position to avoid this devastating scenario in the future.

Your cloud is the best cloud - what a good boy!

Great post.

I'd like to add-One of my absolute most essential tools for my sam - a rake, specifically one with very wide teeth. This is the one I've got: Coastal Pet - Safari Long Tooth Undercoat Dog Rake

Once they start to blow their coat, it's absolutely essential (helps gently pull all of the loose fur off). I had a smaller one for when he was a pup and it worked great!

Also, this treat bag is great. Holds poop bags, treats, and the mesh pocket can hold a tennis ball. My boy loves the squeaky tennis balls that KONG makes :)

OneTigris Dog Pack Hound Travel Camping Hiking Backpack Saddle Bag Rucksack for Medium & Large Dog (Dog Pack - Cotton Canvas) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MQGL712/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_OlJZAbT7Z0ZA7

But honestly you can get better packs. This one has some issues with the stitching and tightening of the pack. It works for casual stuff but if you need something for long hikes than you might look for a different pack. If they have one that can double as a harness that's a plus. This one absolutely can not be used to attach a leash/lead. One good tug will rip the stitches

Ice! I use these ice cube trays which make obnoxiously large sized cubes. (They take much longer to melt). Throw a few in the water bowl, and keep a bunch of extra around for them to chew on throughout the day. Also, refrigerate their water instead of using tap water.

We also keep the AC on all day. The bill sucks, but we figured that into the cost of owning this breed.

Most importantly, and this should be obvious, but never ever clip or shave your pup. While their coat does help them withstand extremely cold temperatures, it also insulates them from the heat. So, it's actually okay to take your Samoyed on very short walks on a hot day.

We use this but I think for puppies, you should use shampoo specific for them. We used Earthbath’s puppy shampoo when Keanu was a baby.
