Hey man hope I can help you out a bit here. Ill give you an insight to the grinders I've owned/heard about from friends who own them.

So youre looking for a decent grinder... Well I've had two during my time as a smoker. The first one I had was an American Grinder. It was pretty tiny (im sure they make bigger sized ones though) and ran me about like 20 bucks. It wasn't the best at grinding up nugs but it did get the job done and it was a 3 chambered grinder. For 20 bucks it was qiite worth it.

[http://imgur.com/cflZEmr](A picture of an American Grinder)

[http://www.amazon.com/American-Grinder-Silver-Tobacco-Pollen/dp/B007P6S9LY](Amazon link to a medium American Grinder grinder.)

The one I have now is a fucking beauty. I love my grinder now; it rips through nugs and produces a shit ton of keif. This one is a Santa Cruz Shredder. The brand is heavy recommended over in places like /r/trees because well the things pretty dope. Although you will pay May for something like this type of grinder. The one I was buying at t local headshop in Boston was tagged for $90 but they gave it to me for $80. The smallest one that had (same size as the American Grinder) was tagged for about 60 I think. Mines not the largest size they make (I think its like an im between the middle and largest size they make) but the medium sized on they make was tagged for $80. I personally love the way the Sant Cruz rips through nugs and makes the weed easier to burn. If youre planning on being a moderate/regular smoker and willing to spend that kind of money then I would say the Shredder is a durable and solid investment. The guy who owns the headshop said that hes had his for 6 years and it still grinds like it did when he first bought it.

[http://imgur.com/a/P0VPL](A little album I threw together with some pictures of Santa Cruz grinder. I also through a little information in the picture descriptions that I thought might help you out.)

[http://www.amazon.com/Santa-Cruz-Shredder-Grinder-Crusher%C2%AE/dp/B00COTWZIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414525742&sr=8-1&keywords=santa+cruz+shredder](An amazon link to a medium Santa Cruz Shredder grinder.)

My friend has a Space Case which he loves to death but thats even more expensive than the Shredder. Its a nice looking grinder but I cant speak from experience since I've never used his but the brand gets mentioned quite a bit over in /r/trees as well so thats always good!

[http://imgur.com/a/Wg1Qn](A few pictures of the Space Case grinder that my friend has, in terms of color and size i believe.)

[http://www.amazon.com/Grinder-Sifter-Magnetic-Medium-Titanium/dp/B004G3RIRK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414525850&sr=8-1&keywords=space+case+grinder](Amazon link to a medium Space Case grinder.)

I hope this helps you out a bit man. I think it kinda comes down to personal preference but I do believe that a good grinder can improve your smoking experience! You should also keep in mind that youll probably pay more for "better" (more well known brand) grinders. I'll try to look up some Amazon links so you can see the prices/reviews from others when im on my computer later!

P.S.- I also mentioned my grinder being a 3 chamber grinder. I dont know if you know what this means (no disrespect to you, I didnt know the difference when I started either lolk) but I will cover it just anyways. There 3 "types" of grinders. By chambers, I mean places where the weed will go, but most people refer to chambers as the number of pieces it has when its taken apart.

The first ones are the plastic ones that are literally just two panels that interlock with sets of teeth to grind up your product. Theyre fairly cheap and really easy to use. You just throw the weed in, jam the two sides together, twist a few times then dump out your grinded product. Obviously these wont last as long or grind as well as metal grinders. Im gonna call this a one chamber grinder but I doubt thats the legitamite name for them. I suppose some people call this a two chamber grinder.

[http://imgur.com/3mjfs7S](A picture of a plastic one chamber grinder.)

Next you have your two chamber grinders. These are pretty similair to the one chamber grinders except that they are usually metal and have a slightly different design (the two chambers lol). These grinders have a top chamber (which contains the "teeth"; where you put your product) and then they have a seperate compartment for the grinded up product. I suppose this is so you can store it in that chamber after its been grinded up if need be whereas you can really do so with the one chambered ones.

[http://imgur.com/tvNemld](A picture of a two chamber grinder.)

Third and lastly there are the three chambered grinders. These are the same as the two chambered ones except with a third chamber which is separated from the middle chamber (where the grinded product stays) by a very fine screen. The purpose of this bottom chamber is to collect keif. Keif is the extremely THC-filled part of your weed and is extremely strong and can get you super high.

[http://imgur.com/WcHP5Uy](A picture of a three chamber grinder.)

The more chambers you want the more money youll probably pay for the grinder.

Once again man, I hope this helps you out a bit. Ill try and come back on my laptop so that I can edit/add pics and prices for ya. If you have anymore questions or something was unclear dont be afraid to comment back or PM me!

Happy smoking brotha!

EDIT: I added in a few links to pictures and prices so that you can see what stuff looks like and how much each one costs! Hope this helps man! Also sorry for my biased towards the Santa Cruz Shredder. Its the only grinder that I have had that I would recommend to other people (and Ive only had to grinders in my smoking career so... lol).

u/XxCoreySxX · 2 pointsr/saplings

Here's the grinder I got (mine was red and a little bigger, but the same basic thing). It works great, is at a reasonable price, and I can tell you from experience that if you put a nickel in there and shake it around after every use, you'll get a ton of kief.

Other accessories:

  • Scale. I also just bought this one myself. It's perfect.

  • Pipe tool. I highly recommend this little thing. Extremely useful for pretty much all things marijuana. The scraper is great for cleaning ash and resin out of bowls, as well as scooping kief or ground bud. The tamper is used for packing the bowl mainly. And the poker is good for unclogging it or just stirring up the bowl. I imagine it might be useful for rolling joints too.

  • One-hitter. This is great for discrete smoking in public, because it just looks like a cigarette at a glance. Pretty cheap too, unless you want a dugout with it. A dugout would be super convenient, but I just keep my pre-ground bud in a separate little plastic tube.
u/1Dude2Tacos · 3 pointsr/saplings

Personally I would go with a decent quartz banger. Those glass nails, like the one that comes with your piece, are prone to break - but it is still very usable.

With the piece you linked, you'll need a 14mm female. Here is a very basic article on glass joint sizes and male/female genders - edit: looking for a better reference.

The general rule of thumb for male and female joints is if it inserts INTO a glass joint it is a male - Think penis. If it slides OVER a glass joint it is a female - Think vagina.

For example, the glass dome (and the bowl) on the piece you linked is a female joint because it slides over the male joint (not pictured) on the downstem.

While Ti nails are perfectly fine, I prefer quartz. I think the flavor is better, but this is just my opinion. There are a lot of options out there for nails, try them out and find what suits your tastes.

You can get along just fine with a banger by itself but, to get the most out of it you should learn how to use a carb cap. There is a learning curve with everything but through trial and error you'll eventually get to MLG360no-dome globfather status in no time.

As far as domed vs domeless, the piece you linked comes with a glass dome, which you would need if you used just a regular nail insert such as the glass one that comes with your piece. Here is an example of a domeless Ti nail, and here is one similar to yours with a dome and Ti nail insert.

Notice how the domeless nail has a an opening, or channel, in the middle for the vapor to flow through as you inhale. You don't need a dome to capture the vapor with a domeless nail. This is really the difference between the two types as the standard nail insert is basically a solid dish with no airways on the surface.

There are many styles of domeless nails but hopefully this will give you a general idea about the differences between the two.

I should add that with a domeless nail, you won't need a dome, but you will want to learn how to use a carb cap. Also, as /u/snobord mentioned, the carb caps are going to be different depending on what type of nail you decide to use. If they don't match up or properly restrict airflow, the caps will not work as intended. So be sure to do your research before deciding to pull the trigger.

You'll also need a dabber or dab tool to apply your concentrates to your nail. Personally, I use a Ti dabber with a ball point tip because it makes it easier for me to collect my rosin after I press it. There are a lot of options for dabbers as well and really I think it comes down to personal preference.

edit:

>/u/snobord

>The type of your concentrate is going to affect the kind of dabber you want to use. The ball point wouldn't be ideal for crumble, for example. I personally bought a stainless steel wax carver set from Amazon so I'd have all the bases covered.

Finally, you're going to need some sort of storage container for your concentrates like a wax wallet or something similar. A quick google search should point you in the right direction.

edit:

>/u/snobord

>As for the silicone containers, bought 10ish (don't remember exactly) of them last year, used them one or twice and basically haven't touched them since. The main reason is I pick up from dispensaries and it comes prepackaged in half/one gram packs and the process of transferring it over isn't even worth the effort. This is definitely a matter of opinion though so my point is just that op should try it out before buying a bunch.

Several edits later: If I missed the mark on anything let me know. Op, hopefully if I wasn't able to answer your questions someone more experienced can chime in and get you on the right path.

Good luck, and happy dabbing!

>Best way to store bud (I currently use a pill bottle)?

A pill bottle is generally good enough but if your stuff is a bit dank you're going to want to get something a little better. I know that when I put my stuff in a pill bottle the smell leaks just enough to be noticeable, but again it really depends on the quality of your dank. I keep my stuff in a TightVac container and it works very well. No smell at all.

That being said, you might want to consider keeping your weed outside your dorm if possible. If you have a car, keep it in there. That way, in the unlikely event you are busted and your dorm is searched, they won't find anything except maybe some paraphernalia.

>So what would be the best way to store avb?

AVB doesn't have a very strong smell. A pill bottle will work fine, I use a glass jar because it's pretty to watch it fill up.

>how worried should I be of smell when vaping?

All vapes produce a different amount of smell, but generally it isn't too bad. Some people claim vapor doesn't smell like weed, but that's not really true. If you're inside and not doing anything to help with the smell, it is going to be recognized as weed. But, if you're outside, the only people that will likely smell it is anyone who walks by right after you exhale. Typically nobody will even care if they do smell it. I have been bitched at once while vaping outside, so some people do care, but I say fuck em. It's outside, having the world smell exactly the way you want is an unreasonable expectation, and vapor is not a pungent enough smell to make a big deal over.

If you want to vape inside you're going to need something to help with the smell. I use a smokebuddy and it works pretty good at reducing the amount of smell that you're exhaling. But, your room is still going to end up smelling if you have a medium to long sesh. Don't fear, this smell is easily countered by a candle or maybe two if you have a really long sesh. I'm paranoid so I also have a wax warmer that I leave running most of the time to deal with any residual smell.

With all that combined, you shouldn't run into any problems vaping inside. My RA actually came by our room (for unrelated reasons, to talk to one of my roommates) last night without me knowing. I was taking huge rips in my room the whole time she was in our living room lol. She didn't mention anything about a "funny" smell so I'm guessing my method must be working well enough.

It should be noted though, that you should absolutely never grind your weed in your dorm. In the 2 years I've been vaping inside, the one time I've had an RA come knocking is when I ground up a decent amount indoors. It smells a lot, magnitudes more than vaping, but you don't even really think about it at the time since you're not getting stoned while doing it.

That's about all I can think of, let me know if you have any other questions.

I don’t think this is the same listing I ordered from but you could find other sellers with it for cheaper. I think this is $17 for 5 stage grinder with pollen press. Last I’d looked you can get it without the press for $12? Ish and can get the 4 piece no press for $10.

I’ve been using it for over a year now as a heavy user and it still grinds well. I got the black one which is nice. The first screen though doesn’t really produce kief but kinda a mix between kief and finely ground weed. It gets all the little stuff and is great for just adding into hits and such. Makes it easier for the kief to go through the next screen but what the first screen catches I usually just throw into the blunt or bowl or whatever with friends and people are usually hella greatful because they see it as kief.

Also the pollen press works great but the picture shows 2 silver metal pieces while the one I ordered has 4 black ones that work well. Not sure what the difference would be. Mine works well with heat though I’ve yet to try it in the oven but leaving it in the sun in wonderful or because of the material I’ve actually wrapped it in a wet paper towel and put it in the microwave with no troubles but I wouldn’t recommend especially if you get the metal ones.

The grinder id say is some type of alloy or composite. It has decent weight but it’s still lighter than it looks and feels good in the hand. Not too bulky.

Any questions ?

I've never grown before, but I've been thinking about it a lot. For subs, /r/SpaceBuckets seems really interesting. /r/microgrowery seems to be pretty thorough. Also this book has really given me a bit more insight on the subject. Three dollars seems like a bit much for info you can get on the internet for free, but, I really wanted to be able to take it with me and study it. Happy growing!!

super edit: Oh yeah, and Mr. Green's "I grow chronic". That one is kind of large scale, but the ideas behind it are awesome.

u/taarotqueen · 2 pointsr/saplings

Yes! I get smell proof baggies from the headshop but you can order them online and in my opinion they work really well. Then you can hide your weed in creative places and it won’t smell, I put mine in the compartment one of these salt lamps. There’s a gap where the bulb goes but you can fit a few grams in there, screw the lid on the bottom and put it on your nightstand, no one would ever think to look there. Just don’t plug it lmao you don’t want to cook your weed.

I figured this hiding place out myself I think (I mean I’m sure SOMEONE else has done it but for me it’s my thing), so it’s not one of the places that will come up if you google “where do teens hide weed”. Not too worried about sharing my secret here though, definitely wanna help y’all out.

Once you get smell proof bags the possibilities are endless so just find little places your parents or roommates or whoever you live with won’t look and I’m sure you’ll be good!

u/SR_TEXAS · 2 pointsr/saplings

Just as I thought, it does look like 3g to me. The quality isn't super but it's pretty solid, pretty good for a first buy.

>The orange bits and the fuzziness are usually good signs, right?

Usually yes, the fuzziness is more important though.

If you plan on buying frequently in the future, you may want to invest in a $10 Scale from amazon. Happy toking!

u/DuctTape534 · 1 pointr/saplings

If you buy it from Amazon it will take care of your credit card issue and just say you got something from Amazon (but not what you got), however the Amazon selection is limited. It does smell really bad so I keep mine in a RYOT smell-proof Hard case with a small jar of ground up bud, a lighter, and eye drops. It all fits perfectly and contains the smell well. Also I noticed after a few weeks the spring for the eject-a-bowl was starting to rust after being stored in the bong that had small water droplets remaining. I took care of this by soaking it in vinegar and scrubbing it off and then coating it in clear Rustoleum. I also like that the bowl can be reversed to make a perfect 14mm male dab nail adapter. I got a cheap ceramic nail on Amazon and it works great actually!

u/Lord_Tiny_Hat · 1 pointr/saplings

I wrote this when someone else made a post about grinders. My two cents on the issue:

--------------------------

You can get a cheap metal grinder on amazon for like $8. But, as me and my flatmate once discussed, you should take some things into consideration when purchasing a grinder. Do you see yourself smoking for a long time? If you do, a grinder will become a crucial tool for years to come. While buying a $100 Kannastor 3" 5 piece may seem crazy in the short term, owning one will definitely pay off.

What are you looking for in a grinder? If you want something that produces kief, look into four pieces. If you really want options in this regard look into a five piece, which will give you the option of an extra layer of kief refinement (my buddy owns a five piece but usually sets it up as a four).

The next thing is concealability. Sometimes if you're living at home and want to keep your toking a secret, there is no shame in owning a two piece grinder. Space Case and Mendo Mulcher make fucking awesome two pieces that will get the job done(you can sometimes even get mendo factory defects off ebay on the cheap). When you use a two piece, you're leaving more of the kief on the bud and you can work the bud to whatever level of grind you want(coarse to fine), so there is an advantage.

Whatever you look for, know some factors about quality. If the teeth sections of a grinder are inserts (you can see a seam like the one between the black and silver metal in this pic http://i.imgur.com/HqR6ekL.png) don't buy it. it may take years, but with enough work the two pieces of metal will separate(I ran into this the other night at a friends place). You want your teeth sections to be milled from one solid piece of metal to avoid this.
If I can give a personal recommendation, I use a Mendo Mulcher 3" four piece and it's my all time favorite grinder. Though I will give credit to Space Cases and Kannastors because they are also quality tools.

--------------------------

I definitely recommend a grinder. I keep one of these as a backup grinder and it's about the cheapest four piece you can get, definitely worth the money. I also use one of these for my travel kit and the 3" Mendo Mulcher is my daily driver.

-------------------------

As far as screens go, I say go glass or use a plug nug (small nug of weed below the ground weed to keep it from pulling through). Glass screens are inert and reusable/easily cleaned. Metal screens clog and they put unnecessary stress on the glass(the metal holds the heat close to the glass, while a glass screen cools at the same rate).

u/CheapMedicine · 2 pointsr/saplings

Ey! this might be a late reply and what i am about to say may have already been written but what i did to keep my cabbage good was to use Boveda 62-Percent RH 2-Way Humidity Control, 8 gram - 10 Pack to keep the humidity in check and so that mold does not grow on your delicacy. for storing i used Ball Wide Mouth Pint 16-Ounce Glass Mason Jar with Lids and Bands. hopefully this helps out and keeps your buds good to go for a long time to come! hope you have a great day!

u/420gnar · 1 pointr/saplings

Personally, I would recommend one of these- http://www.amazon.com/MedTainer-Storage-Container-Built-In-Grinder/dp/B00DRHHYJI

It is a container for weed that is airtight and does not smell, and has a quite good grinder in it, too. The grinder takes a little bit of trail and error before you figure out how tp use it most effectively. Just experiment with how much batch you pack, usually .3 or .4 is best. Twist while grinding kind of gently, and you can come out with something fine enough to use with the MFLB, or a more coarse grind if you prefer. I find these useful because carrying grinders is annoying, and of you have an expensive one they are easy to use. Its perfect for parties, and amaZon wont ask for any ID, so you're fine to order one!

u/SirSmokesAlotT2 · 3 pointsr/saplings

What do you mean by "getting it out"? Most grinders are 3 or 4 piece. Put nugs in top, put top on and spin, and falls through the holes into the next layer. If you have a 4 piece its a screen that allows keif to collect in the bottom layer. Good 4 piece grinders can be pretty inexpensive.

Edit: heres one like mine. Get a genuine Chromium Crusher(they have knock offs so check the spelling on the top in the picture) for 10 bucks or so and itll do you right

u/Soaperz · 1 pointr/saplings

I love these containers for traveling. Don't forget lighters of course, also a Czech pipe tool might be useful.

u/A-Void-Dance · 19 pointsr/saplings

You'll want to get yourself a cheap gram scale to weigh out your buys.

That weed looks good to me. Enjoy!

u/citysex · 1 pointr/saplings

I like this Instapark on Amazon ($15). It works well and comes in different sizes if you think 1.5" might not be enough for you. Make sure to thoroughly wash your new grinder, regardless of the brand, before use.

u/MegaDeathjesus · 2 pointsr/saplings

I keep my herb in an old mason jar, and I put that jar and everything else (weed, grinder, bowl etc.) in an old black box I found.

Recently I ordered this, my buddy has one and it fits all his stuff with room to spare and its vacuum sealed which is pretty sweet.

u/Hoch · 4 pointsr/saplings

If you're looking for a 4 piece grinder with a kief catch... Make sure you don't say kief. Proper term is pollen. Made that mistake once lol. Also, if you have the money, I'd grab a small spoon pipe. See if they have filter tips (example), would be better than card stock.

u/ishitwashingmachines · 4 pointsr/saplings

Just go with a small 4 piece like this chromium crusher. I've had a few grinders and this one is by far my favorite. [8]

u/BongWeedsly · 1 pointr/saplings

How much were you told was there? This looks like good mids with bad trimming. Maybe like 2.5-4 but it's hard to tell, you aren't size comparing to anything. It's hard to just measure how much is there from a picture. This will answer your question better than asking a bunch of internet strangers with a picture.

u/snobord · 2 pointsr/saplings

This is probably the best summary of this topic I've ever seen, professional articles included. I would only add one point and possibly disagree with another.

The type of your concentrate is going to affect the kind of dabber you want to use. The ball point wouldn't be ideal for crumble, for example. I personally bought a stainless steel wax carver set from Amazon so I'd have all the bases covered.

As for the silicone containers, bought 10ish (don't remember exactly) of them last year, used them one or twice and basically haven't touched them since. The main reason is I pick up from dispensaries and it comes prepackaged in half/one gram packs and the process of transferring it over isn't even worth the effort. This is definitely a matter of opinion though so my point is just that op should try it out before buying a bunch.

u/lukistke · 3 pointsr/saplings

I dont like cig filters. You can buy good ones for cheap, but you can just use any card stock paper. Cut a small piece and roll it up. Like these

You can also get a roller at just about any head shop. Cheap and makes it very easy. Like this

u/MartialLol · 1 pointr/saplings

For storage, consider one of these. I ordered one last week and it's large enough to hold a 4-piece grinder, an average-sized sherlock pipe, and a 1-pint stash jar with room to spare (EDIT: I just checked, and I can easily fit my MFLB with the charger and batteries, some lighters, a pack of papers, a hemp wick, and probably a few more bits of paraphernalia). I haven't used it long enough to give a legit review, but it will say that it doesn't seem to smell. If it works as advertised, though, it should also extend the life of your trees; I just don't have any evidence for that. Yet.

u/_ThtSounD · 2 pointsr/saplings

That grinder is essentially useless... A better call might be one of these and then just buy a wooden dugout from any smoke shop, or buy one of those cig one hitters and just keep your container full of already ground up weed.

u/Cosmic_Clock · 2 pointsr/saplings

Amazon sells grinders, rolling papers, filters, and plenty of other things like that. You can even find pipes and other stuff too if you look hard enough. Here’s a link to a kit that includes a lot of the stuff you’re looking for: https://www.amazon.com/RAW-Rolling-HYDROSTONE-ROLLER-PAPER/dp/B01BHHC8KY/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?keywords=rolling+papers+bundle&qid=1562632645&s=gateway&sr=8-10

u/terkistan · 3 pointsr/saplings

I assume you know about Alligator clips to hold joints (if you don't use a filter and don't want to burn your fingers) and one hitters (I like the American-made Chameleon Glass Nug Out One-Hitter http://cdn3.volusion.com/sduxt.jcmmp/v/vspfiles/photos/BWG-CG167B-2T.jpg $16 at BrothersWithGlass) and grinders, so...

Other accessories:

Ozium Air Sanitizer works like magic to remove smells (not just mask them)

Stainless Steel Pipe Cleaner/Reamer/Tamper a steal for $2 shipped

Silicone ashtray. Can go in dishwasher, indestructible, you can bang out your glass pipes without feat of cracking them.

Lockable plastic ammo can for storage. This $5 model is 11"x7"x5" and can hold all the items listed above.

u/PuffCow · 5 pointsr/saplings

Some cigar/smoke shops and most Headshops have them. I usually add a few to my order when i get some smoking accessories. For example Amazon

Recommended pack size to weed:

Boveda 4 gram: 7-14 grams of medicine.

Boveda 8 gram: 14-28 grams of medicine.

Edit: When you are looking online you might see they are available in various humidity levels (for different stuff) and 62% is used for weed.

u/Yooooper · 2 pointsr/saplings

Really wish people took heed of these wise words.. We can look at nugs all we want, but without the feel, true density is a very hard thing to try and 'guesstimate'.. I suggest you buy a scale. They are very inexpensive, and will most likely end up saving you money. There are many to choose from, and you do not need to be of age to make the purchase. You can purchase them online for as little as $8 w/ shipping included. If you aren't so fond of getting items shipped to your (or your parent's house), you can always go to your nearest Ace Hardware, or just about any supply store (home depot, menards, lowes, just to name a few) and pick up a digital jewelry scale for less than $20.

u/mscarn · 4 pointsr/saplings

You might want to look into these.

u/usernamehardlyknower · 2 pointsr/saplings

You need a medtainer.
