Personally I would never purchase an Apple product, there are many reasons so I won't go through the laundry list of things I have against their products and brand. If you enjoy Apple products, at the end of the day you have to use it and it should be powerful enough for the purposes of Scrivener. That said, I also don't really like Microsoft direct products they tend to have many of the same flaws as Apple, just with better software.

I would look for a decent ASUS or Samsung tablet with a proper keyboard attachment, personally. However, if you want a specific choice... I'll provide an Amazon link to the device I would go with if I needed a small laptop/tablet.

This is probably closest to what you're looking for.

However, I would choose this because it doesn't require a stand on the back, when you want to use it like a tablet, you can flip it around and do just that, but I would end up using it in the "laptop" mode most of the time anyway. It's small (14" diagonal) so it can easily go with you anywhere you are able to comfortably write.

I've had good luck with an ASUS Chromebook running Linux via Crouton. However, if you're "clueless as to computers" as you mention earlier, I wouldn't recommend it.
It does have the advantage that the Linux version of Scrivener is free, but you get what you pay for. It works great, but is no longer supported.
