They released the first season on Blu Ray didn't they?

I've began rewatching them on Amazon (I'm up to season 2) and they are in high def on there. They actually look really good, but they're presented in the modern widescreen format, so I imagine there might be extra image at the sides which was not intended to be seen (for example, the HD Friends episodes sometimes show stand-ins for the cast which are clearly not the proper actors).
Or there's missing image from the top and bottom.

What was interesting was with the pilot episode. They must not have been able to find the original film for certain shots, and they've presumably just used upscaled SD footage. It looks terrible next to the HD shots. This wasn't something I noticed on the DVD (which itself was an upgrade from the TV versions I was used to).

So in conclusion, if they did a blu ray release that combined the HD look of the Amazon streaming versions, but kept the 4:3 ratio of the original show (Star Trek: TNG did this!), then it would be a worthwhile step-up from the DVDs. However we're probably past the point of it being worth the cost of production.

I certainly wouldn't bother buying a whole set unless it was:

  • cheap
  • compact in size
  • kept all of the extras of the DVDs
  • maintained original aspect ratio

It probably wont happen though. The demand for the show is not as high as Friends, for example. I'd imagine that anyone who wants to own the show already has the DVDs, and anyone new to it would just stream it in HD.
The demand for physical media is dropping in favour of streaming, and since they've released the first season on blu ray but nothing more, the demand for that probably wasn't too high either.

Lots of fun Seinfeld games out there, but they've gone up in price over the years:

I bought one of those for my dad for Christmas. I didn't wrap it...I just showed it to him and told him how much I liked it. I went on and on about the features until he said something like, "Yeah, that's interesting." Then I insisted that he take the pen.

He's a huge Seinfeld fan, so he figured it out pretty quickly. Last Christmas, I got him this shirt.

Thanks for the post, I'm definitely going to look into Seinology. I actually just picked up one called Seinfeldia.

Hope it's a good read.

Honestly, no reason to hold out for a bluray set. The show was never shot in HD so the only upside would be just more episode in SD per disk. You can get this and it has a lot of nice stuff with it. There is another set coming out soon that won't have this and will be a lower price point by about 50-75 dollars. It'll probably have the same special features on the disks (rare they'll remaster the disks except to add stuff) but minus the extras like the book and attractive looking case.

edit

Apparently I was incorrect.

if you want to study for the test, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pressman-Toy-5300-04-Seinfeld-Trivia/dp/B0024EHGK2 has loads and loads of questions, many harder than expected.

easy to find this much cheaper on ebay, and sometimes second hand on amazon.

All the seasons are on DVD and have been out for a long time, chances are that he's seen them all already. However the DVDs do have outtakes and those are hilarious. You might also think about buying him something like this:

There's tons of other great stuff from the final days in a book called Sein Off

u/Goblin-Guru · 8 pointsr/seinfeld

I’ve been wanting to check that out! He also wrote this book that sounds interesting as well.

The pen you have identified is not the pen that Jerry gets.

He receives the Bullet version of that same pen. I have one and the way Jack caps it while talking and the way that Jerry handles it after Jack hands it to him is the give away to me.

Fisher Space Pen, Bullet Space Pen with Clip, Brushed Chrome, Gift Boxed (400BRCL) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000HLD81K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VwfaCbR4SR6W6

And as a side bar here: Give us a fucking Blu-ray already. Seinfeld deserves better than 480p and janky-ass "HD" cropped-all-to-shit broadcasts.

There is already a pretty bad-ass Costanza T-shirt out there, if you don't feel like making your own.

The YES Network (NY Yankees Channel) has an interview show called CenterStage. Larry David was a guest in 2007. I cannot find the interview online but here is a link to a promo for the episode. You can buy it on DVD here.

Right, like Lippman tried, but of course it doesn't work right.

u/NeverEnoughBoobies · 4 pointsr/seinfeld

They didn't. You can buy these on Amazon: Assman plate. My wife got me one for Christmas Festivus a couple of years ago.

u/augustprep · 1 pointr/seinfeld

I'm finishing up Seinfeldia right now. I got Seinfeld and Philosophy for Christmas last year and plan on reading it next.

Fred Stoller. He wrote a book called Maybe We'll Have You Back: The Life of a Perennial TV Guest Star.

u/dejoblue · 1 pointr/seinfeld

I would add this to my list but my family has already bought all their Christmas this year...
EDIT: It is a dead of the day and ends in 8 hours of this posting, so that is why it is less expensive.

Normally it is ~ $60
