Right, I really like the typography of the first one. It's clean, simple, there's nothing detracting from it. The pink emphasis on 'want' is nice. The typeface choices are good. The layout is modern.

The background image in the second one makes it look like it's aimed at gay men.

The third one is all kinds of wrong.

The last one is no where near as strong as the first. The alignment is out of kilter, and the image doesn't say for women.

So, clearly in the lead (by a long shot) is the first one, however, it's not perfect. I'm not sold on the dark grey background. The contrast is nice, but I don't think it's the right colour for a dating tips book.

Here's what I would do... include an image of a fashionable woman, make sure it's kinetic, she's moving and smiling. She's being a tease and enjoying it. Have her on a plain, coloured background. You want women to feel empowered, strong, in control, and independent.

Having a quick look on amazon, something like this, or this, or maybe even this. All these are with regard to images, not layout. What you've already got is great.

Here's a blog piece I wrote about cover design which should be helpful.

Not related to the cover design, per se, but just as important if not more so... is the style of the book written as a message from a man to a woman, telling her how to get men? Or, could it be from a woman to a woman, or even gender neutral?

If it's from a man to a woman, then great. If it's from a woman to a woman, or gender neutral to a woman, then I'd suggest your buddy use a female pen name or use his initials. Women will be more trusting in a book they feel is by a woman, for a woman. Unless it's obviously by a man for a woman.

Here's a blog piece on using pen names, with some examples of published authors.

If you need anything else, give me a shout. Always happy to help.

I never hide my identity or anything online. I'm am a mod over at /r/selfpublish. Here are my books. There are free short stories at the bottom of the page if you wanna read my style. This is a choose your own adventure I wrote which is totally free.

This is a free eBook you can have.

I should mention that I'm not self-published, but I am an indie author.

If you want recommendations on editors, cover artists, formatters, whatever, I'd be happy to help you out as much as I can, as long as you're willing to take a very object look at your project.

My honest recommendation for your stuff is that it would take about $600 to get your project up to the level of publication. About $400 on editing, $50 for pro formatting, and the rest on the best cover you can get. Again, I'm more than willing to help you as much as possible.

Details: The book is cut in half and each page are fun quotables by 2 computer systems in nostalgic reflection. One is rugged(Memphis Megahertz) and cyberpunk/spaghetti western in nature whilst the other (Kansas City Fractal) is traditional and emotional Vaporwave tech nostalgia and pre internet nostalgia stylings. Here is a free PDF "Shareware" copy of the book to take a preview at....

A note from the author

Hi, my names Shaquiille and I'm 22 currently Royal Holloway University - Bsc Biology going into Msc Entrepreneurship. I'm also a basketball player and Royal Holloway University Sports Scholar. I decided to start writing eBooks, because i know many people who live the health and fitness lifestyle and get injured and don't have a clue on how to fix it! Me being an avid sportsman, I've had a range of injuries, including potentially career ending injuries and always know how to bounce back from them.
Most people I speak to who get an injury end up going to the doctors and getting stuck with endless physio sessions. This is usually because they're either not sure what to do in their own time, or that they feel so good after their session that they get addicted to the sensation of short term pain relief which lasts a week or so. My aim is to help you save your money and cut out the physio after diagnosis.

My first eBook (this one) I begin with patellar tendonitis; an injury I'm oh too familiar with. I know a lot of people who suffer from this ranging from teens growing during puberty to athletes to people in highly repetitive jobs. In this guide I show exactly how I completely got rid of patellar tendonitis and . My future books include a series called "A Comprehensive Guide To Recovery" - This is an holistic guide on how to recover from any common acute/major injury you can think of address all major regions such as; ankles, knees, hips and lower back, shoulders and the wrists. Also providing how to get over mental blocks.

I also have other ranges which will be launching alongside this series very soon. The most popular - "How to lose 2.5kg+ in 7 days". If interested this particular eBook will be out on pre-order from the 11th August and released on the 18th august

So glad to see people looking to review books. I published my first book back in January. Its a supernatural thriller with a soft sci-fi edge to it. http://www.amazon.com/dp/0999673408/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_K5FcBbZDW67HJ Would love to see your review of it. Thanks for your time!

I published my first novel last fall and was randomly browsing reddit about cover designs and stuff. I had thought about making my own.

It just happened u/RoadhouseDalton posted that day about taking on someone for a cover design.

He was awesome to work with, totally legit, and I am still very much in love with my cover. It captured exactly what I wanted and then some.

Here's a link to my book so you can see the cover: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075RY6G7T/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526666630&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=Matthew+weaver&dpPl=1&dpID=41E7ZItavrL&ref=plSrch

One of the best book cover designers is Tatia Vila at Viladesign.net Great covers and low cost. Look at the cover she did for my book. I am sure that the cover itself helped to generate sales.

Chris Fox wrote a great book about how to find the sweet spot between what you want to write and what is selling - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AX23B4Q

I've published two ebooks through Amazon:

A collection of short stories and the first of an ongoing series.

Both are still pretty deep under the radar. So if anyone does read them, a review, even "negative" one, would really help. In fact, any constructive criticism would be appreciated.
