This one's made by Hakko for $32 (non-rechargable, but you can use NiMHs), plus I'd trust them far, far more with designing a good soldering product (or as good as a cordless one can be).

That's the point of the little backup batteries that are in abundance these days. Size of a small flashlight, and enough to charge your phone at least most of the way. Seriously. Current flagship phones and phablets (Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Galaxy Note 4, LG G3, etc) are around 3,000 mAh. The $10 battery packs are 2,600-3,000 mAh. For an extra $10-$15, that capacity can more than double (10,000 mAh or more). That seems like a much more useful accessory for something like camping, as you could fully charge your phone one or several times over.

And if it's that important that your phone gets a 10% charge, can you not just borrow a friend's phone in an emergency? Because with this KS, it's 2" long and not very flexible, so you can't really use either one while you do it unless you hold them end-to-end.

The other requirements for this to work are:

  • your friend's phone has to be on
  • your friend's phone has to support USB On-The-Go
  • you have to have someone not only around, but willing to do this
  • if the phone is providing the full 500mA of the USB spec, that's half or a quarter what many modern USB wall chargers supply, so it'll take a while to hit even 10%

If you really really like the idea of this, get a <$5 USB OTG cable from Amazon, and connect a regular micro USB cable to it, and bam! You can actually use both phones while you charge one.

If you're worried about your phone battery running dry: carry an extra battery, carry a backup, or carry one of those solar chargers. With the wait for the rewards and the $11 $14 plus an undisclosed amount for shipping from India, this KS/IGG is pointless.

From Amazon it's $200 with free shipping if that changes anything.
It also allows people to develop apps for it, if the whole pebble dev community was on board you'd see some pretty cool stuff cropping up I bet.

It just seems to me the closest thing to what I liked and found unique about Pebble.

Looking at the complete lack of pictures showing the development process & prototypes, along with the the shady time line with no mention of mechanical engineering + the low funding goal, I am inclined to think this is a resale. But can not find the exact product besides other magnetic dog collars on google and Amazon

Also his bio seems to good to be true if he claims to have done all work by himself (concept, design, engineering, tooling files & drawings etc).

>From my daily role in real estate development to creating DIY injection molds on the weekends, I am constantly seeking ways to enhance experiences through thoughtful design. Utilizing CAD and design skills from my architecture degree and real world experience, every detail of the MAGDOG system has been analyzed from hundreds of angles to bring you a completely unique pet product experience.

If it turns out to be true I'd hire him in a heart beat.

I swear this exists already. Maybe one of those novelty catalogues like Hemmacher Schlemmer.

edit: quick google shows this attachable laser: http://www.golfsmith.com/product/30098304/dead-aim-putters-2013-standard-putter-with-laser-module

Not a crazy idea. Checked a few forums and people seem to like them.

Another

Another which attaches to the shaft http://www.amazon.com/Laser-Putt-golf-putting-aid/dp/B00GYSIA0O

Clearly these are practice aids. You'd look like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack using one on the course. Not to mention visibility on a sunny day.

Portable folding grill - $28

Universal BBQ Rotisserie kit $33.57

Schumacher Multi-functional Portable Digital Power Station - $99

$150 and you get something that's a bit bigger but much more useful. The Rotisserie kit pulls 4W. The Schumacher power station is probably good for 40 to 50 hours of powering the rotisserie on a single charge. It could easily do a few hours of grilling, completely charge a few phones, power some lights, and still have enough power to jump start a car once or twice.

> . A lot of investors making some pretty dicey bets though considering this product already has a pretty established market. Just buy one on Amazon...

What did you base this claim on, then? What established market?

https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-EW-DJ10-Irrigator-Collapsible-Waterproof/dp/B0027LSEPS this is a pretty small travel water flosser, has a 5.5oz water tank compared to the 2oz in this kickstarter. Half-third the size? I am backing. If it works, I am a happy camper, if not, oh well.

But...is that extra housing really making it a $15 a pop magnet? I guess I just don't get it. To me the selling point is the strength of it. Maybe I did miss the mark here.

They ran one campaign already though- so shouldn't that money have gone to the equipment they need?

Also do you mean at 1" by 3/4" each one would be $100? Wow!

It that why a neodyium set like this 48 for $13 one is done in acrylic that can be injected/cast?

Classes of laser devices are not awarded solely on the power of the laser.

They are based on how much power CAN the user be exposed to. The key factor is the design of the device. For example, this blue-ray drive is a class I product http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-UJ262-Ultrathin-Blu-ray-Recorder/dp/B00HG77LSO (you can see on the sticker if you open the image), but with a writing speed of 8x it needs to have a lot of power, as much as hundreds of milliwatts. Here's the laser taken from a slightly more powerful 12x burner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ77l23xwak&ab_channel=WorldScott

It's the DESIGN of the product that matters. Since the laser is inside of an enclosure, and the product is designed to power the laser off immediately after the tray is opened, the user is never exposed to that radiation. Skarp can possibly do the same thing, by implementing a sensor to monitor if the fabric is broken. Note that by design, the radiation remains within the fiber until contact with hair breaks the total internal reflection.

And i'm sorry, but your calculations about the battery are far off.

1.1 watt hours means that it can provide the power of 1.1 watts for one hour. Very convenient unit. How long can it provide the power of 4 watts?

1.1 / 4 = 0.275 hours = 16.5 minutes

It is in fact minutes. It is not seconds. It will in fact be shorter than than since this is in fact overdriving the battery. But more importantly, none of this is a law of physics! Sure, their choice of battery is wrong, but this can be solved by using a li-ion cell. There is no physical constant that makes this device completely impossible. They aren't claiming free energy, or claiming that they can pump more air out of water than there can physically BE air dissolved in water (aka "triton") so don't throw that card. Yes they are overoptimistic, yes they very likely won't deliver anything, and maybe they already know it and decided to keep the cash instead of refunding. But big claims require proper supporting facts and sources.

If you really feel like you could use something like this, look instead into repurposing midi controllers like this You can get midi mapping software to use these with pretty much anything and you get 10 times the buttons for half the price.

This book is incredible. 23 thoughtful insights including:

  • My tribute to Michael Jackson
  • Today compared with Yesterday
  • Trust me - it's easier to work hard than to not work at all!
  • Is there really such a thing as love?
  • When it comes to aiming high...
  • Age is just a number

Holy shit at that last one.

Saw this on KS's homepage of trending items. Anything non-aerospace-related that has "Aerospace Grade" metal in its title is already cheesy enough. But you can already buy titanium chopsticks from Amazon for under $12, which is cheaper than the $15 for the cheapest early bird package (and half of the "estimated retail" of $24): https://www.amazon.com/HealthPro-Titanium-Lightweight-Professional-Chopsticks/dp/B00MOQANSW

Nevermind that there have already been several successful KS campaigns for titanium chopsticks, including this one just 2 months ago that raised $118K for $40 a pair: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1016293309/solid-titanium-chopsticks-durable-eco-friendly-and

Just goes to show how much of a successful Kickstarter is about telling a story so interesting people don't bother to ask if it's already existed.

You mean this? https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Kickboard-ML0005-Luggage/dp/B00LELSM1I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469346637&sr=8-2&keywords=luggage+scooter

I was SO tempted to buy this when I was at NY airport few years back, but after reading how easily it breaks, I decided to save my money!

u/WhatImKnownAs · 8 pointsr/shittykickstarters

So the only reward is the book and it costs $50! I'm really hoping that's a hardback, though she doesn't actually say it. It's still quite expensive for a hardback, even her self-published first book is only $29 as a print-on-demand hardback. Published in 2011 - I think it's fair to say it hasn't been a runaway success.

Also available on Kindle for $4. Published on Kindle four days ago; A five-star review was added the very next day, by someone with no other public activity on Amazon, ever.

u/MathildaIsTheBest · 3 pointsr/shittykickstarters

What's does the Kickstarter one have that this one doesn't? I'm not a razor expert, and they look pretty similar to me, although the one on Amazon looks like it would be more slippery.

Edit: I looked into it more and the Amazon one opens differently.

Seems like it's history isn't full of confidence. Found this gem which is featured on their website. 'cause I want to pay another 130 bucks to use a keyboard on stuff when I could just pay 30 dollars and do the same thing, or I dunno just buy a bluetooth keyboard/mouse for 60 bucks

Looks an awful lot like https://www.amazon.com/Bartop-Arcade-Kit/dp/B0741NRCGG?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_3 .

Of course, with this KS, the finishing looks very nice, and the cabinets are complete. That being said, $110 USD for a complete cabinet, with emulator, buttons, graphics... doesn't seem like just "Scaling up production" will accomplish that, unless it is at a loss.
