Hey there. I've written about this here before, and I'm gonna copy and paste this huge reply here. Emulation is the best way without spending money, and you can get a great picture that way. Like u/woodpeckerNo1 reccomends, I use Beetle PSX on RetroArch for playing Silent Hill on PC. Other than it being free, YOu can get rid of the Dithering effect on emulators if you want (dithering is that square like pattern/filter you can see on the left here http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/images/2/2f/Cheryl_compared.png ). That being said if you are willing to invest in an upscaler to play retrogrames, here is some information about how to go about it. It's the best way to play Classic games on a modern television guaranteed. As for the PS classic, or the PS store (I assume you're talking about PS3) they will look about the same as your PS2 connected Via component cables. Here is the long post I wrote a while back.

So if you have a HD TV and you want to play on original hardware, you've got a few options. First off just a component to HDMI box which will just get the signal into your HDTV with a reasonable amount of clarity. Here is an example.

https://www.amazon.com/Component-Converter-YPbPr-Video-Adapter/dp/B07GLP8855/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=component+to+HDMI+ps2&qid=1551165207&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1

The more expensive and much more higher quality options would be upscalers. There are two I would recommend, first off the King of upscaling, the XRGB mini Framemiester. This upscales your image and basically converts the signal from a 480i (interlace) to a 1080p (progressive scan). This works with any retro systems you have and will look amazing and if you were looking to record with a capture card, this will work with pretty much anything. The downsides are the price since it's around 400 USD and the fact that it tends to wash out black and dark colors but unless you have an OLED tv you probably won't notice.

The second option is the Open Source Scan Converter aka the OSSC. This isn't an upscaler per say but it multiplies the number of lines on the screen so works very similarly. This works better with UHDTV's/4KTVs. I have a 4K HDR TV and it works well with mine and I can basically quadruple the amount of lines and it makes everything look amazing on a 4K TV. It also costs much less at roughly 200 USD The downsides are that it doesn't work with every TV so do your research, it also doesn't work with every capture card. I have a TCL 49S405 and an Elgato HD60 (not 60S) capture card and the OSSC works brilliantly with both.

I use a PS2 with an RGB Scart Cable into the OSSC, into my 4k TV. I went with the OSSC because it potentially can look better on 4k tvs and it cost less which worked for me. Sometimes I wish I had a Framemiester because they're just easier to use and I know they're quality but either way you can't go wrong.

Anyways, since you asked, those are probably the BEST ways to experience the SH series on original hardware. Hopefully I helped :) obviously you can tell I'm a big fan of this kinda stuff so let me know what you end up going with! cheers!

BIG EDIT: I totally forgot to add that the XRGB mini Framemeister has problems with the original Silent Hill. SH is one of the few games that changes resolutions between the game and when you open up your menu so there is a bunch of added "lag" between when switch between the actual game which is in 240p and the menu which is in 480i. This problem isn't just with SH but with all games that change resolution. Hopefully that info helps.

He wasn't part of the devlopment team officially, but Kojima was meeting with him to get ideas for the game.
I've loved Ito's works for years, he has lot of stories that are very Silent Hill-esque overall. I really recommend just going through all of his oneshots - there are so many of them that it's veeeery hard to pinpoint certain oneshots of his to be the most Silent Hill like when very many of them are. It'd be an endless game of "This one. Oh and this one. Oh I forgot this one". I'll try to mention few that comes to mind though.
As others, I agree with Uzumaki, after all it's the ultimate story of a town where everything slowly starts to twist - literally. From oneshots Blood Sickness of the White Sands Village comes as kinda obvious one, but somehow also collection of Oshikiri oneshots comes to mind, especially as together (if you have read only one or two, I really recommend to read them all, they actually... connect, sort of, reminds me somehow of SH).
If anyone wants to read, his works can easily be read here, though I really recommend buying some of his collections ^^ they even look really nice on shelf if you buy them as a set.

...also as a side note not-related-to-horror but his Neko Nikki is amazing as well.

There really isn't much available on 360, the only thing I can recommend on that platform is Downpour and even then meh.

There's also the HD collections but if you want to play the classics you're better off buying a PS2 or emulating the games on your computer. If you're going the emulation route I recommend starting with Silent Hill 1 since that should be the easiest to emulate. If you need help with getting things to work with a computer I would checkout the Silent Hill PC Guide link under Useful Links.

ALSO you may actually be able to play the xbox original version of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4 on your 360.

Not OP, but here's a Robbie statue. If you buy used you can get him for $50ish, which is pretty good. I have him, and am very happy with him :)

The same company also made a Heather which I also think is very nice. A bit more expensive, but worth the money if you have it.

Keep in mind, these are big. 1/6, if you know scale. Heather is almost 10 inches tall, and Robbie is about 13.

They also made a Bubblehead Nurse (actually, the 2 nurses in her collection are these!) and a Pyramid Head, but I believe those are a bit more expensive these days.

You'd have to do your own research to see which one suits your needs best, but for me this Sony one is fantastic for the price. Would recommend. They're all fairly good nowadays, though. Just check reviews and educate yourself on specs.

I would recommend not playing Silent Hill 1 on PS3 as it is quite buggy in parts. If you can get a PS1/PS2 to play it on that would be the way to go. I would definitely urge you to get a physical copy for this one. Looks like you can get it for about $25 on Amazon.

For Silent Hill 2 and 3 you are absolutely correct that the PS2 versions are the way to go (though the PC versions are quite good as well). For Silent Hill 2 be sure to get the Greatest Hits/Director's Cut version as it has more content than the standard release.

>As far as I understand you can get Book of Memories on PSN buy you need a vita to play it, right?

Yes, Book of Memories is only playable on the Vita. Personally I'm waiting for the Vita price to drop enough that I can justify buying it for just one game but they're still going for like $150.

u/DrLeper · 1 pointr/silenthill

I think that's kind of an elitist attitude. Also keep in mind that the PS3 version has received a significant patch:

> It fixed a number of problems such as the frame rate and voice sync which were greatly improved. Missing sounds and music had also been fixed along with the fog density issues. Other minor visual/audio problems were also improved.

The HD version is definitely not the best version but there's nothing wrong with wanting to play it over a $60 copy of the ps2 version which would probably look terrible on an HD tv or monitor. These videos look pretty good.

Here you go!

I ordered mine off AmiAmi.com -- they were about $30 a piece, so I was able to get 6 nurses, 1 pyramid head and express shipping (3-5 day delivery) from Japan for about $240 total. You can get the same items from US Sellers but they tend to really get you on the price:

Pyramid Head: http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=FIGURE-007720 ($32.25 USD)
Bubblehead Nurse: http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=FIGURE-011503 ($29.25 USD)

US Sellers:
Pyramid Head: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013VC9YHS ($78.95 USD)
Bubblehead Nurse 2-pack: http://www.amazon.com/figma-SILENT-Bubble-Action-figure/dp/B0185GRGGQ ($129.99)

If you don't mind ordering from Japan, AmiAmi is the way to go for the best price. You can also check other sites (Ebay, NCSX), just look for "Figma Red Pyramid Thing"

Here's the jacket I used, it's pricey, but, I wear it almost daily at this point, and, it looks great on my wall!

I dunno, I'm not much of an audiophile, I just find that using any headphones is better for horror games than your TV's speakers. On my last playthrough, I used the PlayStation Gold headset plugged with the 3.5mm jack into an adapter that plugged into the optical port. Gave me crystal clear audio. Wasn't planning on it at first, but for some reason, my PS2's AV port created bad noise that seemed to vary based on how much white was in the image. Go figure.

For the audio level, you can buy an adapter that adds a volume dial, it's pretty cheap. It looks like this, and you can probably find one at your local electronics store.

I bought these strip lights - LED Strip Lights, ATTUOSUN... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P61XM9J?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And these connectors - JACKYLED RGB 5050 3528 LED Light... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072KRCJLD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I just ran them up the sides and over and drilled a hole in the bottom for the cables.

The adhesive is super sticky though, had to redo a small section and needed to use rubbing alcohol to get the adhesive off the glass.

u/TheAngryRed · 2 pointsr/silenthill

If you still feel the desire to get into the series, I'd recommend you do whatever you can to play the first game. You can find it on the PSN store but if that option isn't available then there are plenty of cheap used copies on amazon. If you can get past the dated graphics and controls, you'll find it has the same formula that made 2 and 3 so awesome.

Oh man, that is a bummer! I just looked up the laser rot situation. Apparently there is also a 1 disc version which would be identical to the disc you're missing in case you ever want to buy a replacement. At least you have those special features! It's one of my favorite blu-rays I've collected just for it's overall presentation.

u/Explosions_Hurt · 1 pointr/silenthill

The fact that the director supervised the transfer too makes me want it along with the second disk of interviews and extras .
It's here on Amazon France but delivery to Ireland is nearly double the price. I wonder if it's on any other online shops.
