I learned a whole bunch of stuff from reading his autobiography. Back in Rodney's freestyling days, he would sand down his boards into various shapes and it would help him perform certain tricks better. Sometimes he would make a rounder nose and a tail because boards used to look like this. Also, he sanded down the sides to lock into a perfect primo/to-rail trick.

Here's some more recent evidence in his Almost Round 3 part(notice how the tail and nose are more squared off than normal).

From my experience and others Vans don't seem to hold up for very long, even if you're not skating in them. Currently I'm skating in Adidas Busenitz but I can't see them lasting for very long (although they skate really well)

I've never skated in high tops so I can't help you in that department. Off the top of my head the only high or mid top I can think of is the Emerica Hsu G6. From what I've heard Emerica shoes skate really well and can last for a while.

Concrete Wave, by Michael Brooke. Really sweet retro stuff in there.

HAWK: Occupation Skateboarder. You REALLY need this. I genuinely think it's absolutely essential. A brilliant read. I've literally read it like 20 times.

Hey Tony,

I watched your video today and it made me go watch your Sync video from earlier this year and it blows my mind how you're still flying up on the vert ramp and coming up with new stuff.

You were an inspiration to me when I was a lil 9 year old kid when I first picked up THPS2 for N64 and I read this book cover to cover, and you're still an inspiration to me even more now that I've been trying to take my skating a little more seriously.

Thanks for passing the stoke on to me as well as others around the world.

Is this a good skateboard for a beginner that's never stood on a board before? It says it's good for beginners but wanted more opinions just to make sure. Thanks

My local park is in an awful state of disrepair. The ramps are mostly made of skatelite and they're nearing 20 years old. I've been skating these things since the day they were assembled and at this point they're basically unusable. I want to do whatever I can to fix them up. So, basically I'm looking for tips on materials to use to fill in craters on these ramps. This is how the mini ramp looked last summer and it's only gotten worse since then.

The last time I went someone had filled them with sand and put duct tape over that, which obviously didn't work. I've been considering things like quikcrete, something like this flexane putty, or this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I basically grew up on this mini ramp and would love to bring it back to life.

They worked perfectly in 1985. Don't know why they would stop all of a sudden. I'm not talking the cheap shit they put on Wal-Mart boards, I'm talking Peralta Rib Bones and stuff like that. They aren't made of regular plastic like the Wal-Mart shit, it's some kind of slippery composite. Plastic rails would just melt.

The local skate shop must love all you kids going through decks and trucks every month. Do yourself a favour. Buy these. They slide on anything and will protect your deck.

Rib Bones

Oh well son looks we have to have the talk...

Well go to walmart and it's $3 but at CVS its $6 my shop has it i think but.....And you want to get a knife you don't mind ruining or broken scissors....open the shoe goo. put a little ball on the [object] then put it on like icing, do layers only small then if you need more just add some more. "Pay attention and make it fun, entertaining like its an important job, or else you brain is bored, gets distracted and you fuck up and want to do something else."-My Dad. Ha so the half size is up to you, it is fine. just the orig. laces will be to big.

EDIT: these are a 11.5 and come in 12

Here's some of mine:

I've got a few more since this photo.

Full Bleed and Dysfunctional are probably my favourites.
And, as someone else mentioned, Disposable is dedicated to board graphics.

edit: This is a good recent one about controversial board graphics:

Good little write ups about each graphic as well.

Yeah, I feel you. I'm not big on anything too bulky either. I have a pair of Vans Era's that I really like for skating. éS made a couple of shoes that I loved as well. Slim profile, not too much padding, but still had plenty of ankle support.

I just picked up a pair of Globe Taurus'. If you haven't heard of these, you should check them out. Probably my favourite shoe I've skated in a long time.

These ones are leather, but if you check the colourway options, there's some suede ones in there.

The Answer is Never needs to be on any list. It's the best thing I've ever read that captures that lust to skate, every day, progressing because you love it. He was really able to get that down on paper in a way that makes sense. I cannot recommend this book enough.

+1 on Opteka, I have their Titanium Series Fisheye for my VX1000 and it's awesome. This is the version of that lens that would fit your camera. I highly suggest it. For filming tips check out the ride channel series "In Focus" is a series of tips for filmers. Nothing can help you as much as just going out and filming. Get a group of buddies together and film everything, not for the purpose of footage, but just so that you're comfortable filming.

Personally I like it. Pretty comparable to the mini ramp I have so it’s not weird for me. Specs if you’re interested: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EI2ORK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8643Ab9K5DGBN

I do a bit of photo and video. Of course I also skate. I've been looking for a backpack to combine the two, specifically a way to carry the gear around. So a DSLR bag with skateboard straps. I've managed to find one that looks nice but it's $150.

Does anyone know of other DSLR bags with skateboard straps? Or have a decent way of adding straps to a DSLR bag? I guess the next best thing is to get a decent skateboard backpack and add one of these.

For cheap / quality I love the Rokinon 8mm Fisheye

For the price it is an awesome lens. It's not the sharpest, it's pretty cheap especially when compared to my nicer lenses but it has worked great for me when filming skate stuff. You can't beat the price, and you can probably find it cheaper in ebay.

I hate to plug my own channel and shitty videos, but here is a link for a video that I use it in It's also in a bunch of my other short skate videos on my channel. Hope this helps!

I'm just going to ask here again since I didn get an answer, is this a good skateboard?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D89R2HY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1Q6ZRF93545WY&coliid=I2PBDUCQFF91OC

It has free shipping and ships to Croatia, where skateboards are much pricier, so I'm wondering how good it is since it would be my first skateboard and I don't know much about it.

Also, I weight about 90 kg, could it handle my weight? I do a lot of cycling and such so I'm not completely out of shape and am working on loosing weight, just don't want to break it too fast...

Not exactly what you are looking for but there is a great photobook about skate photography around the world and some shorter stories about different countries and how they adapted to skateboarding and such.

u/schbaseballbat · 1 pointr/skateboarding

lol. totally. I tend to avoid those boards as I've gotten older. Maybe some girls are cool with that, but I doubt my girlfriend would appreciate it. I like the classier ones. He did a limited run of DBZ boards a while back that were reprints from the 90s. And he did some akira stuff. Anything I buy is usually to hang on my wall at this point. For example. I picked up an old school deck with this graphic a while back.

I thought it was rad. I definitely don't get as into the stuff that rides the line between art/porn. But I think there is room for that in the industry. With all the DBZ collabs that primitive did, I'll bet Jeremy Klein could turn it back into a bigger business if he wanted too. There's more people into anime now than there were back then.

That's the cover from/to his book, The Mutt.
