(It's a little outdated, but still useful)

I currently have a Pebble 2SE, the Pebble 2 Heart Rate* could be a good option, but if you want the latest features it depends what phone you have/what you want. If you have an iPhone, just get an apple watch. If you on Android, good luck! 😅 Jokes aside (I have a Pixel, love Android) there are just so many Android Wear watches and none of them are as good as they could be. Wear OS needs some work...

If you just need fitness features maybe look into the latest from FitBit like the Versa.

The AmazeFit Bip could also be worth looking into:

Check out the LG Urbane Watch. It does everything you listed, except typing text messages, only voice type.

I know I have seen apps on the store that have a keyboard for typing, but I am not sure of it will be what you are looking for.

Overall I have the Watch Urbane and I love it. I highly recommend it. :)

I used to have the Microsoft Band 2 (terrible choice, don't ever buy it) and had to wear it with the face under my wrist. I got used to it and started to like it when the wristband split in half after 3 months.

I've since bought the stainless steel Huawei watch and it's amazing. It looks like a nice watch, is very sturdy and has the latest version of Android Wear. It's expensive but I highly recommend it.

The face can be changed at any time (it's an LED screen) so you can go with a standard watchface, digital or even really out there designs like changing a background on a phone.

Edit : And to answer your question. Yes, I wear it daily.

What does everyone recommend for a good cheap (cheap on price) smartwatch for women?

My wife wants a fitbit style watch but doesn't want to pay a lot for it. She found this watch online at Amazon.

My question is then two-fold:

  1. Is this a good watch?
  2. Do you have other recommendations for this?

This is a streeeeeetch it might look a little too bootleg - but you can get Casio watchfaces for the Bip and add a case and change the band . Bip is also pretty basic smartwatch its pretty much a fitness tracker - I say someone will create another casio watchface for their new model the GTS.

I found an LG G Watch on Amazon for $145, where other places are selling it for $200. Gizmodo said the watch was fine but the Asus Zenwatch was cheaper (no longer true).

You may also be able to find cheaper Samsung watches, like the Gear Fit ($125), which Gizmodo was pretty adamant against because of what they called "garbage" software.

The reviews are from this article, but I sense some pro-Pebble and anti-Samsung bias in their smartwatch reviews.

I mean, I found this... Not very fashionable.

As far as I know, none of the mainstream watches have MicroSD (please correct me if I'm wrong). I wonder if having the SD card slot would make the watch bodies too big. Never really thought about it. I wish you luck on your adventure to find your perfect smartwatch.

Does your son have a phone? If not, that Vtech watch seems like about as good of a stand-alone watch as it gets.

Edit: This looks like another good one: https://www.amazon.com/LINSAY-NEW-EX-5L-Eexecutive-Touchscreen/dp/B00W4DRZ04/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480700313&sr=8-1&keywords=linsay+smart+watch

Sometimes retailers have smartwatches on display so that might be a good way to check out all the smartwatches.

I went with a Pebble Time Round because it looked more like a normal watch. I swapped the band with an old leather Swiss band I had.The watchface is customizable.

It looks like it's going for €70 on amazon right now. You can find one for €30-40, if you're okay buying used. I bought used.

I'm in the same boat, but wanted a little more then just a watch. And a very tight budget. Decided to save a little more and get the ASUS Zenwatch 2 refurbished from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ZenWatch-Smartwatch-Stainless-Steel/dp/B01MY0L38Z/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498741088&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+zenwatch+2

It's not round but at $90 it's more then what your looking for. It's a little more then what you want to spend but it's worth it. Also has software to customize your watch face and it's supposed to get the new android wear 2.0.

I was looking at that one but it seems a little bulky, I was hoping for something more svelte like the Vivosmart

I really LOVE your spreadsheet. Just one question, for Huawei Watch 2 Classic the watch band in your sheet is 22mm, http://consumer.huawei.com/de/wearables/watch2/specs/ mentions 20mm, Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDP223X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_HeFvzbX5C9W0A again is 22mm. Which is true? I only buy smartwatches with user replacable 22mm watch bands, because I have a large collection of those. Thank you!

The Alcatel Watch is supposed to be released "mid-March" (so, a couple weeks from now?) and will retail at $150. It's a touchscreen which supports both Android and iOS. It's a proprietary OS with a companion phone app but apparently no 3rd-party appstore (at this time?) but it does seem to have a comprehensive array of apps preinstalled and I'm not sure what 3rd-party apps you'd really need - especially considering the price:

Pebble just announce a new series called Pebble Time and you can get the base model for $179 on kickstarter right now:

The original pebble can be had for $99 as well:

Yeah I read about Rebble and make feel a little better about, anyway I'm thinking in buying this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FIAXHCO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A9VBWN1Q1U6E6
as is $75 and has the amazon warranty

I'm wanting a smart watch that is simple. I want a round gold casing with a white face (or a display which allows a faux analog face). All I really want is vibration when I receive texts, calls, and other notifications, including when I need to get up and move around. Oddly, the only watch I can find that fits this description is that Famar Link which I found on Amazon. I can find absolutely NO information on this watch, other than that it's a Chinese company. Are there any other watches that fit my needs?

Exact same situation as you except my wrist is huge, I found this website to order specialty bands and this band on Amazon that you can remove links if needed
