I would suggest drinking coffee with a straw if possible, I still drink sugar free red bull and sometimes gatorade with my aligners in but I don’t feel as bad if I use a straw. Also, my boyfriend does zyn. Off topic but how do you like it compared to snus or dip if you tried it? I approve of it bc it’s not tobacco. Anyway, I always brush and floss my teeth after my meals and I’m good to go. Also, pro tip, when I wake up in the morning (bc these aligners hold some stank in) I use this https://www.amazon.com/WhiteFoam-Clear-Retainer-Cleaner-ClearCorrect/dp/B07BRNCC8W/ref=gp_aw_ybh_a_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=WAN4CXF1MV1JFJFR5N2V . A little pricey but helps with the smell and keeps them clean/white. Good luck!
Edit: I’m sure there are alternative cheaper aligner cleaners but this is the one I use and love

I use this product I found on Amazon Retainer Cleaning Tablets 120 Tablets Value Pack -4 Months Supply, Remove Stains and Bad Odor, Prevent Brace Discoloration, Invisalign Cleaner Tablets, Mouth Guard Cleaner, Mint Flavor cleaner

Fancymay retainer cleaner. It works so good. I smoke in my aligners everyday and I drink crystal light sweet tea (no sugar) which is brown and my aligners are still crystal clear. I am new to SDC and just finished my first week but when I took out W2 they were the same color as my W1!!! Best product I have used.

Not sure if the link above will work. I am also nee to Reddit so not sure how all this works lol.

When they're not in my mouth (at home) I put them in this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M9GU82A/

and that is filled with this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0755367M5/ (each pouch lasts a week)

I lift the strainer out, rinse them off and they're clean and clear as crystal. They smell great, too. No scrubbing required.

I brush mine all the time! Personally, I have a makeup bag with a travel toothbrush/toothpaste, my awesome aligner case, floss, eyebrow scissors (to trim the aligners if need be), and finally- and I can't stress this enough, chapstick.

Personally, I keep a travel toothbrush/paste and floss and a retainer case (cheap on Amazon in my car, another set in my gym bag, another in my office, and yet another in my husband's car. (I only ever need the chewies the first one or two times on a new tray.)

Travel size stuff is pretty cheap, and this way I don't have to worry about whether I have some with me or not. My purse is full enough.

These are the companies I am aware of that produce retainers:

  1. For Essix-type clear retainers you can use

  • www.sportingsmiles.com they also sell retainers through amazon, but direct from their website is cheaper. You can read reviews at amazon.
  • go through your local orthodontist/dentist

These companies send you an impression kit, that they use to make your retainers. I'm personally planning on ordering from sportingsmiles when I finish my SmileDirect plan.

  1. For Hawley type metal retainers

I'm only a week in, so hopefully I'm doing well...but I'm simply rinsing them most of the time, and once per day, I soak them in retainer cleaner (I've been using this stuff from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WWYBJ7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). So far, I have no issue with odor or staining, and I'm avoiding using a toothbrush on them per the instructions provided.
