This does not really answer your question.. I don't have recent experience with the chipset you're asking about. I gave up on trying to get the cheaper cards to work and finally just bought an LSI card. Most of the Sun/Oracle branded SAS/SATA cards seem to be LSI. I've been running 4TB drives on these for over a year with 11.1.x and 11.2 and they've been rock solid, using a variety of 4TB drives from different vendors and a couple SSDs in there as well.

And I use one of these or these wired up accordingly - I also carry one of these and then I can connect to anything.
