Great idea. Would do one myself if I had the time!

Were I to do it for myself, I'd:

  • Have all the exercises in the list, but also allow for users to add in their own exercises (I have problems going from pushups to elbows-in/diamonds so am doing an extra "close" push up, to help get me there)
  • Allow me to level up by 1 rep (or 2 reps on pushup/dips!) or allow me to repeat if I'm cheating too much
  • When I do my workout I always have a stopwatch on besides me so I know how long a gap I am having between sets. It would be great if I could be in workout mode and it tells me what I should be doing in my next set, and then how long I should be waiting for. I guess I'd want to tap that I'm starting and that I've finished. Might be nice if it how long an exercise took so if everything was in sync I could do it completely hands free (at the moment when I am done I try to remember when I finished so I can wait a minute, but sometimes after a particularly hard set I forget!)
  • Other ideas with workout mode:
    • I want to be able to override the gap between sets (Some are ok for a minute, sometimes I need a bit longer...)
    • I want to be able to handle exercises that need to be done on each leg (eg: single leg squats, I do my left side then my right side or vice versa - same with side planks)
    • Need to be able to pause if I get a phone call.
    • Handle my warmups for me as well!
    • Allow me to input my weight/BMI/water %/fat % (I have one of these)
    • Allow me to split up my routine (I do push [squat/pike pushups/pushups/dips] one day/pull [the rest] the next so I can workout everyday for 30 minutes instead of everyother day)
    • Sometimes I skip a stretch or do it shorter so let me move on (also note some stretches are both arms, some are single arm)

Good luck and any other qns or if you want me to play with it latter on feel free to PM me!

I have to say that this sounds extremely unlikely. It might not look like the casing above the door could support significant weight, but I am 260 lbs and it can support me just fine. However, if there is no molding or casing, or it is too thin or uneven to safely support, there are alternatives to the one posted above.

If you don't have the option of the hook on one, you can always get the type that bolts into the door jambs.

You could bolt a bar on your floor joists in the basement.

If you further do not have this option, then you could buy gymnastics rings and hang them from your floor joists in the basement (you should be allowed to drill a hole through them that would accommodate straps or ropes while still meeting structural building code requirements)

If you you do not have this option, as you are in an apartment or something similar, and have no suitable doorways to use for bars, then I think you will have to be creative in your solution for this... but there are still other bar types, such as wall mounted or free-standing, that you could purchase or construct.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I'm the farthest thing from an expert on exercise, but have been reading up recently. In Bigger, Faster, Stronger, Michael Matthews claims that strength exercises + cardio can co-exist on the same day, but try to separate them by many hours (so - bodyweight in the morning, jogging in the afternoon). If that's not possible, do the strength work first.
