I want to start off with this very important thing to remember, "take your time" while doing this model there was times I only sat down for a few minutes and times I was there for over an hour.
I would recommend practicing the techniques listed below on the sprues (the frame surrounding the parts of the model)

I over do the details,(lot of it you can't see in the pictures. I post) but I enjoy the painting and get satisfaction off of it, it can be toned down and still look good

I normally look over the book, Google the characters/vehicle down load multiple pictures to refer to and get an idea what colors I want before getting started. I also watch YouTube videos to see if there is something difficult I need to be aware of.

Sometimes it is easier to paint some of the details while the parts are still on the sprues, see the black in the chest plates I painted them before I cut them loose, it was easier to do them that way. But I always waited until I put section together (ex: chest, waste , arms , legs and head) to do the wash "weathering" this way they all blend together. With this one, I want it to look more weathered at the bottom and less as it went up

Some definitions:

Wash "weathering" this is how I made the "dirty look" i did not let it set for 10 mins. I applied small sections and wiped off what I did not want with a Q-tip. The darker parts, I just applied small amounts with with a fine tip brush.

Dry brush

As you can see here Dry brushing really gives the look of age /worn out.
you would be better off going to the link I provided and watching a few videos.

Variety of brushesif you buy the dirt cheap brushes, you will get a cheap paint job. The ones I linked are a good set to start with, they give you a wide variety of choices. Main thing to do is CLEAN...CLEAN CLEAN...them after each use. With thinner and soapy water. Do not leave them setting in the thinner or water, the points and edges with get messed up quick. Wipe them off with a paper towel, reform the ends when done.

Magnifing head set is the best way to get the small details, i have this set and they work okay, there are better sets out there.

Hope this helps

Regarding a better way to display, I recommend picking up a display case designed for shot glasses like this
https://www.amazon.ca/GALLERY-SOLUTIONS-Display-Hinged-11FW1328/dp/B007UPI5BO

The droids fit perfectly and look great on the wall

NIUBEE Acrylic Riser Display Shelf for Amiibo Funko POP Figures, Cupcakes Stand for Table,Cabinet, Countertops - 3-Tier, Clear (12×8.75-2 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07559P21F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-PyRBb7FCC5RP

I love those risers for Funkos and 6 inch. Detolf from ikea is a cheap ($60) option and looks great. The risers fit perfectly in there.

I guess it all boils down to what you’re collecting though.

value is really in the eye of the buyer. what they are willing to pay. I use ebay as a good guide, but most thing are overpriced especially when you consider shipping, as the price may be great but then you'll see $40 for shipping on one action figure. here are a few guides that have used in the past:

keep in mind also most of these came out before the force awakens and a resurgence in the force, so values may be under-priced.
also I have several of these books if you need me to look up items, I would be more than happy to.

Black Series 6" are great, but more $. Here's an Amazon exclusive 4-pack + the Entertainment Earth 4-pk. Also, this. And of course, Cody.

In 2018, a new Vintage Collection series begins and that will certainly include many different clone troopers. 3.75" figures are too small for my liking, but they can be fun to collect (and less $).

I get mine from a lot of places. Walmart gets good ones on sometimes, JC Penney near me has a great assortment. Kohl’s as well. Amazon too. Recently got a Forces of Destiny shirt off Amazon and it looks amazing. Got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078RX2N6T/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&customId=B07537P18N&psc=1

I got a set similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Rustark-Gundam-Building-Repairing-Fixing/dp/B071LB1T5D/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1NVWGU1Y2TD3K&keywords=sprue+cutter&qid=1571361112&sprefix=sprue+cutter%2Caps%2C338&sr=8-2

It has a sprue cutter and emery boards to sand down. If you take your time clipping you won't need to do much sanding with the emery boards. But you'll definitely need to file/sand down some edges to get pieces to fit more flush and to make the end result cleaner and not have little bits of plastic sticking out of seams. Hope you enjoy the build process!

Pretty straightforward. They come instructions that are in Japanese BUT have really great pictures detailing every step.

Get a pair of tree cutters (I think that's what they're called). You can get them at any hobby store. They look like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IVEFVDI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9mPKybF6ZC63H

u/Miran_C · 3 pointsr/starwarscollecting

They are these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ICNW438

They're OK. The pegs are slightly too large for Black Series figures, and since the peg hole size varies they work better with some than others. Generally I only need them for the female figures since their feet are so tiny. Leia doesn't need a stand because she actually has big enough feet in this costume, plus her boots don't have high heels on them (Ahsoka, I'm looking at you - this is a design feature I do not understand because I cannot imagine that Ahsoka the character would ever in a million years wear heels, but whatever).

I don't know why Jyn stands well - maybe because she's knock-kneed. :)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07559P21F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But, if there's something better, I'm all ears. This gets the job done, but I feel like there could be something better.

u/douche-baggins · 3 pointsr/starwarscollecting

Not OP, but I'd recommend the Imperial Forces back. Also, recommend the Stormtroopers Four Pack, which is on sale for 25% off, and the only way to get a regular white armored Phase II clone.

That's not true. Amazon is still taking orders. Amazon sells all the carbonized figures except for Sis. Remember, Amazon is a global company. What you said maybe true for Amazon US. It is definitely not true for Amazon EU.

Here is the link for the carbonized Sith Trooper in stock and ready to ship right now.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Carbonized-Collection-Skywalker/dp/B07T5CMV7P

If you prefer to go through Amazon US.

https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Carbonized-Collection-Skywalker/dp/B07T5CMV7P

Something has changed since yesterday. Amazon EU was taking backorders for both the carbonized Jet and Mandy yesterday but they stopped today. The figures are still listed but Amazon is still no longer a seller.

Here's a listing out of the Google cache showing what it looked like yesterday.

This is a legit figure, and where I got mine from. You are not ever going to find these figures at retail value online. It is very typical to find them atleast $10-$20 higher than retail. Some figures are better than others though. http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Black-Darth-Figure/dp/B00L4JFSVC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453836607&sr=8-1&keywords=star+wars+black+series+6+inch+vader

https://www.amazon.com/NECA-Action-Figure-Display-Stands/dp/B00ICNW438

I have those. They are fairly good, but as stated by others, not all figures fit. I use museum putty or tak (the clear or white variety) and that holds feet which pegs do not fit to these bases if you have them weight balanced in not to extreme of a pose to where they would fall over.

u/Cookie421 · 3 pointsr/starwarscollecting

Unfortunately yes. All figures are in retail stores for a certain amount of time. Vader isnt carried in retail anymore but you can find him online, Amazon or eBay, at a higher price than normal however.

You could try these for the 3.75 figures

Star Wars 3 3/4-Inch Action Figure Base Pack Stands (Set of 40 Stands) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OU87RP4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_-AD3wbQVT7X23

For the 6 inch you can try NECAs

I personally have found good use of the KO tamashii stands. Took me about a week or two to get them, but they're worth it.
