It's really good. It doesn't have everything in the novel(that would be impossible), and is more fast paced, but in my opinion it is worth it. The best part is that you can get each set of comics in about 6(or 5?) volumes, and they come with these really cool extras such as maps of the characters journeys(which is one of the greatest parts, you actually get to see where the characters live in Boulder, CO, which is fun to google based on the map provided), insight from the artists, unused art for the adaptation, and see the detail put into the art in recreating places like NY. What I did is buy them used off of amazon, because you can get them cheap and hardcover. Here is number one of the Volumes
The only thing I didn't really like about them is that they didn't make Larry the blond/ginger that (I think)he was in the book(isn't his beard described as reddish blond?):( I also didn't like the way Randal Flagg looked. I think that they are better than the miniseries and much gorier. It is based on the unabridged version btw

I would recommend Different Seasons, which is a collection of four novellas. I know they're not short stories, but it's still a great collection! I think King works best in longer work. I haven't read a short story of his that has ever blown me away, but Different Seasons is a good introdouction read. In this book is the source material for Shawshank Redemtion and Stand By Me, too, so the stories will be familiar.

Thanks! Yeah you should definitely give Imajica a try... Clive barker has quite the imagination.... He reminds me a lot of Neil Gaiman in a way.

Oh I just picked up a fantastic book of horror short stories.... It's called Dark Masques. It has stories from a ton of my favorite authors... Stephen King, Ramsey Campbell, James Herbert, Robert McCammon... Even Ray Bradbury....

Speaking of Robert McCammon, if you like the Stand, and who doesn't, you should read his novel Swan Song.... Great book https://www.amazon.com/Swan-Song-Robert-McCammon/dp/1501131427/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539535019&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=swan+song&dpPl=1&dpID=51B-GZ-uSjL&ref=plSrch

For example:
The copy of the Shining I bought that had this cover started to deteriorate very easily while I read it.

I do like the larger print like you mentioned. And the cover art is often more aesthetically pleasing for sure.

These editions (that I posted a reference to) all had the same layout. I liked that in general for some reason. Even though the art wasn’t nearly as nice maybe.

It's a pretty great book. I used it to remind myself of things while my best friend read the series for the first time.

Other things to consider might be posters for movie adaptations, or art pieces, stickers etc based on his favorite book. Redbubble would be a good place to start, or etsy.

As far as special editions are concerned, check out Cemetery Dance.

I'd also recommend combing eBay for older Cemetery Dance books.

Hope this helps!

Instead get her a copy of Zombies vs. Unicorns. It's an anthology. She can skip the zombie stories if she wants to, but the unicorn stories are pretty damned good. Anyone that really likes unicorns will love them in ass-kicking mode.Especially "THE CARE AND FEEDING OF YOUR BABY KILLER UNICORN."

The version you're looking for is available on Amazon under the same listing in paperback and hardcover, though I imagine the price is significantly more than the one you received. You can also try AbeBooks or Alibris.

It's generally not a good idea to shop for collectible/OOP books on Amazon. Amazon targets the casual reader, not collectors and uses bots to keep the listing pages neat and free from multiples. Hence, there's usually only 1 or 2 listings for any given book, even if there's dozens of editions. (Even if, as in this case, the newest edition is missing 25% of the original. Odds are that there were originally different listings for the new version, but then the bots got to it & merged them.) If you're looking for a particular cover or printing, you have to dig through & check the description on each offering under that listing and hope there's some clue there as to which edition that particular seller is offering. You can also click on the "Collectible" option (as I did in the links above), but you'll find that those are generally priced well above average market price.

Have you read Swan Song? I wouldnt say its better than The Stand but its certainly just as good and better in some ways.

u/GunnerMcGrath · 2 pointsr/stephenking

For the record we're talking about a single book called The Bachman Books that contains the original 4 stories he published as Bachman, not the individually printed novels. Those are quite rare, I'm sure, and Rage is definitely out of print for a good long time. But this book is just a reprint of those novels and can be found pretty easily.

This may be how it is in the US but over in the UK this isn't a problem. My current set of DT is consistent and lines up nicely on my shelf.

My previous set was also a complete set. So if you want a good set you might want to look at ordering from the uk.

u/davincisbeard · 2 pointsr/stephenking

For a hardcover yes. Especially if it is in good condition. If it's an older print (e.g the 1986 Viking edition) then definitely yes. If it's the 25th Anniversary Edition (not likely ) then you just hit the jackpot.

u/docwilson · 2 pointsr/stephenking

Yes it came out as a kindle single in April. I bought it the second it was available, of course, and devoured it in a sitting. Highly recommend it, in any form.

Edit: The Best Dollar I Ever Spent

u/tmbridge · 3 pointsr/stephenking

I would strongly recommend continuing TDT until finish and then going back to read all the other novels w/ connections -- this way you, the Constant Reader, wouldn't be spoiled by anything in the Complete Concordance.

The Complete Concordance is great for tracking and researching connections as your read the auxiliary novels.

I was amazed when I found out there was a The Stand graphic novel, and then even more blown away by the existence of The Dark Tower in graphic novel form.

Those are pretty!! I've never seen these printings before!

EDIT - Amazon link for those interesting in owning their own

u/Tia00017 · 2 pointsr/stephenking

Not to the extent of my knowledge. You can thank Viking and contracting for that. Closest you'll get is the Scribner boxed set. Has pretty much the same illustrations.

The price differential was only about $20 on amazon. Worth the price and I didn't own or read books 2 or 3 yet. Needless to say I'm excited! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/1501142062/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
