The updated pic looks like an elephant bush (portulacaria afra), but IDK the other plant. They both seem to have very rich soil (not good for succulent plants), and I would recommend mixing in perlite to help with drainage. They also could use some more light. Grow lights are pretty cheap on amazon (I got these on amazon, 4 for $26 usd.), and will supplement the plants with the light they need. You should also get the 'leafy' one out of that glass ASAP. Succulents need pots with drainage holes, and soil that allows water to drain out of it easily. Water-retaining soils will cause rot pretty quick, and can cause overwatering easily. I recommend checking out the sidebar for more tips. I hope this helps!

C&S is just an abbreviation for cactus and succulent. I don't really know of any brands that are better than most, except I try to stay away from Miracle Grow products like I said in someone else's thread below. Give me a bit and I'll check Amazon to see what sells up there and I'll edit.

Edit: So you can probably/definitely find this somewhere else for a better price somewhere else, but I have had a good luck with this (https://www.amazon.ca/Good-Earth-Horticult-Inc-10404/dp/B006MY5KJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469739351&sr=8-1&keywords=succulent+soil) and perlite (I actually use Miracle Grow perlite that is ~$4/per 4 qt bag). Don't buy stuff with fertilizer already in it. It is usually in bad proportions. I'd just buy these from a big box store. Do you have a Home Depot or Lowes? They should be like $5/bag at either of those kind of stores. Use a plastic solo cup to portion out the two and mix it together in a Tupperware bin or something. That's what I usually do. And then I leave the extra closed in the bin in my garage. Finding stuff for a good mix is kind of challenging and it doesn't ever come to any of us right away, ever. I can promise you that!

There is no definitive answer on this because there are too many variables. Examples: The light requirements of each individual plant. The PAR given by the light. How far the plant is from the light. How long the light is on daily. How much natural light the plants receive. Yes grow lights CAN work, but you have to find the perfect balance. The great thing about indoor lights is you can control the environment! Too much light, you can reduce the time or move the plants further away from the light source. Too little light, move them closer or give more hours of light. It's not something you'll probably get 100% right on the first try.

They do make white LED grow light panels, but they are harder to find than the red/blue. You may want to try something like - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HI3AFYM/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_35?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2L94QV6P0R9ON -but it may be overkill, I don't know how many plants you have or how large of an area you need to light.

u/Current_Selection · 1 pointr/succulents

I've been browsing the grow light thread and thinking about getting more succulents before winter, and would like some input on which setup seems better or if you would recommend something else entirely. This adjustable growlight which has a gooseneck and clip (also comes with option for timer) or this bulb and this clamp light? I currently don't have many succulents at all (which obviously can change) so I don't need the light to cover a huge area. Should I set up a specific area to do this with shelving etc (please recommend if so) or is on top of a cedar chest on trays fine?

I'm pretty new to this and appreciate any advice I can get here.

u/hacelepues · 2 pointsr/succulents

If you're interested in the LED route, I've had great success with this light so far! I've had this set up for about a month Finnex Stingray Aquarium LED Light, 48-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NAFQ99I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_4DCAIKdF44v6m

Just look at the fantastic progress my Perle has made in the past couple weeks https://i.imgur.com/UPnC1BW_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=high

u/FiainTheCorgi · 2 pointsr/succulents

Another question - this one about grow lights. It gets pretty cloudy here, sometimes for weeks at a time, and I figure I would rather prep and make sure my new plants are getting enough light now so when winter comes it won't be an issue (Illinois does not get much sunlight then). My windowsills are small, though, so I'd like to set up a rack in the corner of the kitchen with lights and expand a bit. It won't be a huge area though.

I found these two grow lights and I'm not sure if one would be significantly better? The flexible one would be nice and more space efficient for me but would getting the bulb and a cheap desk lamp be better for the plants?

I'm not really sure what you have in it, so its hard to tell by looking LOL. My favorite mix, which I've seen the best results, including pots without drainage holes (I get a lot of requests for terrarium arrangements), is an equal mix of:

  1. Pumice
  2. Charcoal
  3. Cactus Soil
  4. Perlite

The grittier, the better!! I don't like sand because I feel like (unless its coarse sand) the sand just soaks up water, instead of draining quickly.
u/mitchellered · 1 pointr/succulents

I have the one you linked. I think it's okay but probably not bright enough for my succulents and cacti to thrive throughout the winter. I've mostly been using them for my succulent props though and they do great under it. I recently bought this lightbulb and this fixture to use on a few of my succulents for the winter. I read that you need a fluorescent light bulb with at least 6500K. I'm hoping this setup works because I can't afford anything much more than that for my plants lol.

u/flyingpinkdinosaurs · 2 pointsr/succulents

I’d say 2:1 perlite:miracle grow cactus mix for my Haworthias. I honestly just kinda winged(wung?) it and I think maybe I have too much perlite and that’s why roots are taking ages. But definitely heavier on perlite for them. here is the one I have and honestly the only reason I have it still is for rerooting, and I don’t even know if I’m imagining things or it actually be like that 😂

u/NuclearHubris · 1 pointr/succulents

I can answer this one! I have an awful situation where I live in the best place ever for succulents - Southern California - with tons of sun and absolutely none of it hits any of my windows. So I bought this bulb and this grow light and I have five happy babies that are growing on my desk with no natural light. The grow light on it's own wasn't enough, but the light+bulb have been working great and all of my succulents are growing again.

u/JelliedBiscuit · 3 pointsr/succulents

[The original 2' T5 fixture] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006856EQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1RrFAbKNAEJ2M) I bought. I still use the green frame but it took some extra work to get it to support the weight of my new light.

My current 8 bulb light Not cheap but zero regrets. It's amazing.

Two pack clamp fixture - better deal than if you buy them individually.

Four pack of red/blue LED bulbs

u/1foryes2forno · 1 pointr/succulents

Yeah, those are definitely easier to find & less expensive. My current lights are hanging from one of these stands, though, and I would have to figure out how to make those shop lights work with that setup. I dunno if I'm that creative lol

u/dat_kat · 1 pointr/succulents

Nope! In the mountains in central Washington.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009GU4QPU/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this is the light on the top shelf, I like it best :)

u/hello_cerise · 1 pointr/succulents

Return it. The single bulb ones don't really have much spread to them, even if wattage is ok. I've had good luck with square panel
LED grow lights (about 45w but works), but better are the 122+w (true watts used not "equivalent watts listed so these are sometimes sold as 300w) full spectrum LED (yellow light) like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Roleadro-Generation-Spectrum-Greenhouse-Hydroponics/dp/B01HI3AFYM?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_4

u/burtnayd · 2 pointsr/succulents

I have to keep my collection in cabinets so my roommate's cat doesn't destroy every single plant. I found both of them off craigslist - the taller one is a now discontinued Ikea cabinet and the other seems like it was made to be a plant center.

https://imgur.com/a/dmwK8

The two clip lights I have are here and I'm debating on getting a third for the metal cabinet on the other side. Right now I just move pots around when it looks like a beeb isn't getting enough of that sweet, sweet light.

I also am on the wrong side of duplex and have no south-facing windows so lights were a must. Metal cabinet is on a north-facing and Ikea cabinet is on an east-facing and it's just not enough for Ohio winters.

Everyone seems happy so far! I brought them in at the beginning of October because squirrels kept jacking up my pots and knocking them down so they've had time to adjust.

u/pipetting_squirrel · 1 pointr/succulents

I'm looking for some grow lights for a variety of succulents that have recently sprouted from seeds (mostly Echeveria with some Pachyphytum and some Sedum varieties). I live in an apartment with decent lighting and east facing windows, and currently am supplementing light for 10-12 hours a day with a cheap Amazon LED (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PYFTHMW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

However, I know as I get into the winter that I would like the option to use blackout curtains to maintain the heat in my apartment and would like some recommendations for primary grow lights. Currently, I'm using the pedestal arrangement because the plants are not in any sort of shelving, but rather on one large counter.

I am willing to get shelving, but would rather not mount anything into the ceilings as I live in a rental currently. I live in the 6b hardiness zone and will be using a bottom heating pad in the colder months as I'm not sure how warm I'll be keeping my apartment.

Any help would be appreciated :D

u/scaperoute · 3 pointsr/succulents

I have some grow light questions (I know, sorry!) and I've already gone through the overwinter thread as well as a bunch of threads going back a year or so.

I live in an apartment with east facing windows and have about ~50 succulents (mostly 4'') sitting on a table. They get about 5 hours or so of direct light, then indirect light for the rest of the day. They're doing alright, but I want them to thrive and get back their stress coloring.

If I kept them on the table, I definitely want a clamp light. I'm also open to getting a shelf. Ideally, my budget for the lights would be about $30 to have enough to cover those ~50 plants. I'm considering these bulbs or these bulbs for 2 clamp lamps on opposite sides of the table. Would either of those work? Open to any tried and true recommendations as well!

u/Fabled-Sparrow · 1 pointr/succulents

True yes! I just get these pots bc their cheap and easy to store. i use cactus soil i got off Amazon, i repotted this guy when i first got him because he was in a TINY pot and was super thirsty. I use this soil! Growth Technology Ltd MDCAF2 Cactus Focus Repotting Mix 2 Litre https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007797622/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LBb4CbY7GEQP6

Edit; i cant get what you linked me bc im in uk but ill keep an eye out for them! I use miracle grow indoor plant food tho

u/barinthus0 · 1 pointr/succulents

If you plan to keep your succulents alive, ever, just buy some succulent/cactus potting soil. Succulents need quick draining soil so that the plants roots don't stay wet for too long and begin to rot. I tend to use this and just procure it from my nearby garden store for way cheaper then Amazon sells it for.

And if you aren't using a pot with holes in the bottom.. get one, use it, love it. It makes a world of difference in the survivability of your plants.

And Perlite is a often found in quick draining succulent soil mixes. It absorbs water very well.

u/octopushug · 2 pointsr/succulents

Are you shipping your items or driving them over? If you are shipping, I'd suggest unpotting the plants and letting them dry out bare root completely, then lightly wrap each plant in protective padding (tissue paper, toilet paper, cotton fiber fill all work well here) before packing them into more padding material to avoid shaking them around too much in the package.

You can also use a similar packing method if you're driving, which might protect them better than trying to pack them while they're potted. Otherwise, I'd say lots of protective padding and something to keep the pots all stable is the way to go.

You will probably need grow lights if you plan on a fully indoor setup depending on your windows/natural sun levels. I have all of my succulents on a rack with a T5 6500K grow lit setup controlled by an automatic timer. Hydrofarm Agrobrites are excellent quality. Durolex are also popular but my experience with them is that they are lower quality--the fixture runs hotter and the default bulbs that come with them burn out way faster. Amazon Basic shelves are also useful depending on what size you need, or any other similar shelving system.

u/InksPenandPaper · 2 pointsr/succulents

Take them home and place a growing light on them during winter. If you have your own office or are the last one to leave, set a growing light on them for the night.

This is the one I use. It has 5 brightness settings and 3 timer modes.

Good luck.

u/aspect-creatio · 1 pointr/succulents

Sorry to be the bearer of bad new :( You can still make a LOVELY potted arrangement, with top dressing and everything, I don't have a single plastic or terra pot in my collection. The key is proper soil (my personal super-fast draining mix is made up of half pumice and half coconut coir) and a proper pot with a drainage hole :) Good luck!!

u/tangerine264 · 3 pointsr/succulents

These are the lights I️ use.
This is the light that I️ like best. $30 from Amazon. It doesn’t put off very much heat.
This is the one that is not so good. $25 from Amazon.

u/misseff · 3 pointsr/succulents

I use this mix: https://www.amazon.com/Quarts-Bonsai-Succulent-Cactus-Gritty/dp/B0194E9RW4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524862302&sr=8-1&keywords=bonzai+jack

It is pricey, so I mix a little cactus/succulent soil into it(just the regular bagged kind that's cheap) to make it last.

Using this grow light 16 hours a day(it also goes over a few other plants): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074SG33M2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can probably find a better value grow light honestly. The reason I got it was because my husband was tired of the pink lights in our living room, and I didn't want to deal with getting too into other types of setups. This one is unobtrusive and pleasing to the eye.

u/VonClawde · 1 pointr/succulents

I’ve been using this one for the past year, and have had great success with it

u/Ronikan · 8 pointsr/succulents

The shelving is by Costway: https://www.amazon.com/COSTWAY-Utility-Bathroom-Display-Organizer/dp/B07BP1B61Y

I realized that you can order the shelves however you like so I took a little liberty to get everything to fit!

u/sulkycarrot · 1 pointr/succulents

That is actually a REALLY fair point. I wouldn't have considered that it was likely damage from before the reviewer got the light. Once I figure out the lighting situation and my plants start to normalize I do plan to behead them all and start over in smaller pots. I have them all crowded into two large pots and really want to separate them all into their own pots. I can't even remember now why I thought it would be a good idea to put them all into larger pots. I think I will buy one of the Root Farm lights when we get paid Friday. Hopefully I can get it to hang from the shelves alright until I get all mine repotted since their pots are somewhat tall. Is this the same one you have?

u/bananawith3legs · 1 pointr/succulents

https://www.amazon.com/Finnex-Stingray-Aquarium-Light-48-Inch/dp/B00NAFQ99I

These lights are excellent. I used to have a large planted tank so I had one of these laying around and I've been using it for my succulents. It's been amazing and it should be somewhat water resistant because it's meant for aquariums? If it's not, look into submergible aquarium plant lights.

u/Michi01 · 2 pointsr/succulents

Not with an LED grow lamp. They run nice and cool and do not take up too much energy. I run mine for about 15 hours a day. I'm using this one I purchased on Amazon: Root Farm 10101-10135-1... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074SG33M2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

u/MetaJess · 2 pointsr/succulents

Im in the US, but I bought the 2' version of this as my first grow light and so far so good https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T0CPI6A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_x7bbzbMVPDGYX

Make sure whatever light you buy goes to 6500k light temp, that is the same brightness as regular sunlight. I also suggest investing in a timer for the light of you don't already have one!

u/floralcode · 1 pointr/succulents

I'm sorry, I have no answer, just want to tack on and ask if LED strips like these are recommended as a cheap solution. My ceilings seem like they're too high for most of the hanging grow lights I see on amazon and the strips look so cool.

u/book_worm200414 · 2 pointsr/succulents

Light

This is what I use :) This one is better than the t8 fixtures I have and it has light stressed all the succulents under it :)

u/loganwadams · 9 pointsr/succulents

Gladly! These are the lights that I bought. Just saw that they are 50% of the price at which I paid for them back in December. I HIGHLY recommend them.

u/stonedarcher · 2 pointsr/succulents

Maybe try something like this or this or this!! :)

u/dereanry · 1 pointr/succulents

I live in Michigan and even if I leave my succulents by a window during the winter, they stretch out and get kind of long and sparse. Last winter I got a UV light off amazon and it worked great! I just left it on overnight maybe twice a week. Mine is kind of like this

u/Thylakoid6 · 2 pointsr/succulents

It gets a lot of light- it's positioned almost directly under my powerful white LED light (this isn't the exact model of light I have, but it's pretty much the same)

When the E. raindrops is outside during the summer, it needs to be in full sunlight for most of the day, or the bumps will not form or get bigger. You can see in the picture that some of the leaves near the center don't have bumps or have very small bumps- this is because the plant has only just been exposed to the higher power LED light after a long period of having suboptimal lighting.

u/te-fod · 8 pointsr/succulents

Thanks for your input, I’ll take them out and repot them, I’ll find some moss like you said to put inside, I hadn’t seen the idea with a cactus before and I guess this is why

What is the issue with the soil I’m using as it’s supposed to be for cacti and succulents this is the soil I’m using

u/FaeLLe · 1 pointr/succulents

The person who sold it to me said to not water them till February end or March. It will be repotted in some nice mix that has worked for my pony tail palm and dracaenas - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cactus-Focus-Repotting-Mix-Litre/dp/B007797622

They just do not clump together even when watered so I think it is okay, I can even mix some perlite in if you recommend. The grit is very minuscule too (maybe 1-2 mm max).

How will I recognise signs of lack of sunlight? Since the species I have do not grow too tall how will they elongate?

u/DragonfireEsq · 1 pointr/succulents

Thanks!

It’s called “Root Farm” and can be found here on Amazon: Root Farm 10101-10135-1 All-Purpose LED Grow Light, 45W - Broad Spectrum Grow Lamp, for Indoor Hydroponic Plants, Energy Efficient https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074SG33M2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8j2YCb4E9WNNJ

Its expensive, but works like a dream, and you can raise and lower it as needed. My one complaint is that it doesn’t come with an automatic timer, so you have to plug and unplug it every dag.

u/scott216 · 0 pointsr/succulents

I have these. check my posts, they work great

u/wandering_meatloaf · 2 pointsr/succulents

Hmm. I just searched and found this one for $21.41 per 5 gallons. One 1-star review said it was 60% fines, which is a good thing if you're growing mesembs!

EDIT: some other reviewers are saying they received less than what was stated though, and that the pH was too alkaline or something.

u/rennet · 1 pointr/succulents

Thanks. That's quite a good price for a 2ft fixture. I'm always jealous of the prices and selection offered in the US compared to what we get here in Canada. We're basically limited to paying 2-3x as much for what's basically the same thing.

For my case when I bought these fixtures about 5 years ago, I found that buying a high bay fixture was the cheapest option, or I'd have definitely ordered 2 or 3 of the 4 lamp 4ft version.

I'm in NY and today I just noticed that my plants are seeeriously stretching. I rushed and bought this grow light. I think the supplemental artificial light will be enough!

Now I'm going to behead a bunch of my succs and give them to a friend who just started up her garden!

u/MockingBird421 · 1 pointr/succulents

Alright, thank you!

Regarding the second, I got it a few weeks ago, but it had clearly been shedding leaves before I bought it. How do you know it didn't have enough light?

Regarding light, since it appears all of my plants are on the verge from dieing due to lack of sunlight, I apparently need to buy a grow light. Would this work, put over rows of these plants, and how many should be going over head plant and how many hours a day should they be on for?

This one may have a little better reflector but not sure it's worth the extra $10 for 3 of them: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DuroLux-DL822N-2Ft-2Lamps-T5-Grow-Lights-with-5000-Lumens-and-6500K-Sunlight-/162270037390?hash=item25c80c458e:g:lcwAAOSweXhXmJDS

Or this is same model with better reflector (like some of my DL824 fixtures) but again unless you could find same price I don't know it's worth it. https://www.amazon.com/DL822-Fluorescent-Hydroponic-Fixture-System/dp/B009GU4QPU/ref=pd_sbs_86_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MJQ4MX9GP4X70A81JSKC

My current go-to mix is 1:1 of this compost: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cactus-Focus-Repotting-Mix-Litre/dp/B007797622, and perlite, which my other plants seem to enjoy. Gritty enough, or go grittier?

Any advice? It’s my first winter with succulents. Normally they are in my kitchen window however that window is pretty drafty and it’s getting cold at night now

I was told this one was really good and affordable, so I'm giving it a try and I'm currently waiting for it in the mail.

Thank you! It’s partial indirect sun light, and this grow light. It has a timer and a dimmer which are really handy!

Thank you! I use these two products:

You totally don’t need to use both of them, the first one would be good enough. I bought these two for different uses but ended up using both of them at the same time. I leave them on for at least 12 hours a day.

u/TheLittleKicks · 2 pointsr/succulents

I’ve seen users on here get good results with these grow lights.

u/tinylittleelf · 3 pointsr/succulents

No I have one, wouldn’t recommend- it’s hard to get them close enough to actually give enough light without burning the plants. This one is better IMO https://www.amazon.com/Lovebay-Adjustable-Gooseneck-Hydroponics-Greenhouse/dp/B074GR1KRT/ref=pd_aw_lpo_86_lp_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=P0434TAXANH3A8A5GXCN

Thank you so much! Here is the link to the one that I purchased. I have it about 2 feet above my succs and I keep it on 24/7. Grow Light

u/dumbolddoor · 9 pointsr/succulents

I was cheap and just bought these from Amazon. I have them about two inches away from the top of these succulents. The lights stay on for 8-10 hours.

u/SnarffPenguin · 1 pointr/succulents

I will drill some holes then! Also, the rocks are just a very thin layer for decoration on top of the succulent specific soil I purchased, they are not glued together!

This is the soil I have them in currently.

I'm using one of those goose neck red/blue ones. I don't think it'd be strong enough on it's own but since I'm using it as supplement to natural sunlight just for the winter (my plants are in a south facing window) it's been sufficient for my plants.

Edit: this is the exact light I'm using but again, I wouldn't recommend this a sole light source. There were a couple weeks where I had to move my plants away from the window due to the temperature and the light alone was not sufficient on its own.

link for the strip lights

I got these lights and shelves in recently because Missouri is too wet and and the bugs have really had a go at my little fam. I've been meaning to get some for fall/winter so they don't get so leggy.

I fully expect to have to adjust the shelves for proper lighting, so I'm going to be doing some very careful observation each day.

u/LittleFluffFerial · 2 pointsr/succulents

I bought a small metal shelf from home depot and got the 300W version of this grow light to hang from the underside of the top shelf

u/Nichole615 · 3 pointsr/succulents

I've never tried those cheap LEDs. But I do have two Agrobrite T5 lights that work well. They're a bit more but don't break the bank. Available in lots of lengths and bulbs.

I ended up going with this bulb and a clamp lamp based on your recommendation; here is a pic of my baby setup.

u/throawayformycatskye · 2 pointsr/succulents

It has a clamp. I got this. I think the ceiling ones are higher quality and longer lasting, but there’s nowhere for me to put one of those.

u/agyrophobia · 4 pointsr/succulents

This is the one I have at my desk

You can plug it in to USB or the wall, and it has a timer. I have it clamped on to one of my monitor stands right now.

About $50 on Amazon! It had some reviews that made me weary, but I have not had any issues.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T0CPI6A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not sure yet how well they'll work, yet!

Cactus and succulent repotting mix combined with perlite for the soil, pot has a single drainage hole ~1 cm in diameter with a layer of plastic mesh over it to prevent too much soil loss.

u/paulexcoff · 6 pointsr/succulents

I can't vouch for the long term quality of any of these products but I have these pink ones, and [these purple LED strips] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GDT048Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (mounted three on a bookshelf, but they each have chunky dc adapters, so they don't work well in multiples on one power strip, and they're not really bright enough individually to keep my succulents happy).

There are also more expensive LED panels with cooling fans which might extend the life of the diodes longer or something, but I was going for as cheap as possible, without resorting to non-LEDs.

Also another potential point of confusion is some sellers list the wattage equivalent of the bulbs if they were incandescent (brightness) while others list the actual electricity consumption.

u/squishybloo · 1 pointr/succulents

Hmmmm. Well, I've only had the grow lights (I got these) for maybe a month now - everyone else (granted, no other eche's) has had sudden happy-plant growth spurts, so I'm hoping it should be enough light for it now? My eche is in a taller pot, so it's more like 6" from the light rather than ~10" like my smaller plants.

I've never done beheading so it's kind of intimidating for me, despite having read quite a few guides now! But I suppose it certainly is an option, and I'd have plenty of leaves to propagate if worse comes to worst.

u/Koopa1211 · 1 pointr/succulents

I recently bought this and my plant is already getting more compact. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002JQBQZQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title i tried full spectrum leds but the color on the succulent is not as great as their color temp is lower.

u/ColeTheSoul · 1 pointr/succulents

Well, they both have just the dirt I got them in for their soil. That soil is suspended in the pumice for airflow and drainage. I'm not sure what will happen as the roots start to outgrow their soil. Either Ill have to add soil, or the roots will take hold just meandering through the pumice without a real medium. Example pumice Link

Been following this sub for a while, finally pulled the trigger on some plants. I ordered five succulents online in January, and they arrived in pretty bad condition. These are my first succulents, and I seem to be having trouble bringing two of them them back to life:

  • The vendor didn't send identification, but here are the photos. I took the first one in January when I repotted them, the rest were taken today.
  • Drainage: Large hole in the bottom of each pot.
  • Potting Medium
  • Water: I water when the soil is completely dry (maybe once every 8-9 days). I will give them a complete soak until water drains out of the base of the pot. I live in a semi-arid climate type, so it's typically very dry in my apartment. The average humidity is around 40%.
  • They sit by a west-facing window all day. Indirect sunlight during the morning, direct sunlight in the afternoon and evening.
  • History: Ordered online in January, and they were pretty banged up from shipping. I repotted them after about a week.
  • Rot: I've read through the entire wiki, and I still have no idea. The succulent in the blue pot has been shriveling up and losing leaves/stems consistently. It's down to just a few small leaves and I don't know what else I can do with it. There is no smell, and it's not squishy or gross, it just seems really dry. Could this one need more water than the others? The one in the green pot looks just as sad. It came in with black spots and shriveled leaves, but again, no smell or ooze. The stem on this one seems to be ok, but the leaves have been shriveling up and falling off since I got it.
