My recommendation is to pick up the Power Girl series by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Grey and Amanda Conner. There's definitely boob jokes laced in every once in a while, but it really shows off who she is as a person and is just very funny and wholesome. You might be able to pick them up in their original two trades, but the best way to get it is the large trade Power Girl: Power Trip, which also includes a four-issue arc in the title JSA Classified that deals with her super-complicated origin (not as good as the main series, but not bad either).
> Which run do you think has the closest characterisation or tone with the TV show?
The tie-in comic for the show that Sterling Gates wrote is by default the most similar to the TV characterization.
Outside of that, probably The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl from the 80s. Part of what makes TV show Kara different from comic Kara is how much older she is on the show than she's been in most comics, and the maturity that comes with that. Pre-Crisis Kara actually got to grow up, go to college, get a job, and by Daring New Adventures she had moved to Chicago and was in grad school to study psychology, and she had a confidence in her identity that Kara has on the show that she doesn't in some of her comics.
Rebirth is good too, Steve Orlando gets the core of who Kara is and I'm looking forward to see where he takes her character. Post-Crisis and New 52 made no real attempt at establishing a strong civilian identity like Kara has on the show and like she did pre-Crisis, so it's nice to see that being reintroduced.
Sterling Gates also wrote a number of issues of the 2000s Supergirl series, and while he cares a lot for the character and understands her, 1) a lot of his run was during the New Krypton Superman storyline that Supergirl got sucked into, and it's just kind of a mess and 2) she's much younger and less experienced than on the show. I think the best of his run is the Bizarrogirl storyline.
There is a Rock Candy limited edition figure of show Supergirl. Funko Pop has a flying show Supergirl. There is a trade called Adventures of Supergirl which has some season 1 era adventures for Kara. You could also consider getting her some comic book Supergirl stuff. Bombshells, New 52 Supergirl, and Supergirl: Being Super are all very good. The chibi Q-Fig Supergirl is cute and based on the show.

Can you really deal with it though?
I'm currently reading White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America. A lot of it deals with the fact that the people we call racists, sexists, ignorant, etc., pretty much go back to the beginning of this country. That there's always been extreme classism in this country, but we just call it different names depending on the generation on why certain people are better than others. And that the lowest stratum of citizens has pretty much always been ignored and despised.
This is one of those topics I really don't think there can be a good solution for. I mean, there should be some redemption arc in my opinion, but I don't think it's really possible for the writers to understand what they've never experienced.
Quite a lot, it turns out, when it comes to the health of your feet.
Here's a short article on the effect that cushioned shoes have on the ability of the lower body to absorb shock effectively (that website is also dope because it has a collection of medical literature about the effects of running shoes, if you want to look up stuff and get into the super-technical details).
I'd suggest the work of bio-mechanist Katy Bowman if you want a layperson's introduction to the effects of sneakers (or any type of footwear that effectively immobilizes the foot). I'd say pick up her books Simple Steps to Foot Pain Relief and Whole Body Barefoot for a great overview of all things foot-health related (and also listen to her podcast Move Your DNA because it is dope)
P.S.: flip-flops/foot thongs are whack, too

There is a robe, it looks like this.
Yep that bottom left one is a bit pricey.
It's also on Amazon Instant Video: https://amazon.com/Supergirl-Season-1/dp/B0155ON2WI
Well, if you were to pick up a comic, I wouldn't recommend either of them as your first. For Flash, I'd recommend The Dastardly Death of the Rogues, and for Supergirl I'd check out Last Daughter of Krypton.
