Here's the social media I could find. Maybe too soon, but it's gonna happen anyway.

Sorry this is so long, but I can't find another way to make it readable. I'll add more as more is found. Please post if you find anything good in here, I didn't review it all!

I know this is a shameless plug, but I would highly recommend reading my book as you are rewatching the early seasons. It specifically talks about what it was like to experience Survivor as it aired and what it was like on a week to week basis as we were introduced to the show for the first time, and how the world reacted to it. It would make an excellent companion piece for anyone who is going back and is reliving the franchise all over again.

Feel free to ignore this if you want, but here's the link if you (or anyone else) is interested: https://www.amazon.com/When-Was-Worth-Playing-Experiences/dp/1512069884

Mike's dad, Mel, is a super cool guy, for anyone who doesn't know. He's a gay pastor who was something of a trailblazer in fighting for LGBTQ+ acceptance in Christianity. He and Mike were great on the Amazing Race, and this letter is hilarious. Does anyone know if Mel is Mike's loved one next week?

EDIT: Since this comment got some attention, I'll point anyone interested to Mel's memoir, Stranger at the Gate.

The authentic cover should look like this , with the word Survivor in the middle of the spine and then a small subtitle. The colour schemes on the spines are also quite different from what I have: Cook Islands should be red and bright blue, China red and bright yellow, Nicaragua purple and red.

The authentic discs themselves should also have the episodes labelled on the disc (so for instance, Africa disc one says "Special: Countdown to Africa, Episode 301 Question of Trust, Episode 302 Who's Zooming Whom?" on it.)

I'm also quite wary of the price: $15 for 36 seasons is $540. When I bought a great stash of them in June (IIRC it was 18 seasons then), I paid about a grand.

You definitely need a little snuffer to extinguish the candles instead of blowing them out.

You can easily do:

  • one of the many balance challenges (you can even incorporate a pool if you like)

  • touchy subjects (instead of getting three "hits", take one of three shots after someone hits you). Better once everyone's a bit lubricated from booze.

  • hidden immunity island hunt

If you want Survivor in a box I highly recommend the board game Dead Last. It's basically like going to tribal council over and over again. Plays 6-12.

There's another of its ilk, Mario Lanza's book. It is an amazing time capsule that takes me back to the good ol' days when everyone was talking about Survivor.

As for the Burnett books, they offer some really good insight to those early seasons and what production was thinking/worried about as they were going through filming. Worth a read for sure.

I'd go with an early season because they tend to give more attention to social stuff.

I'd go with Amazon or Vanuatu because the gender and social dynamics are interesting and pretty clear. Other seasons require a lot more 1-to-1 dynamics that require more work to understand.

I'd also let your teacher know that leading psychologists watch and review Survivor: https://www.amazon.com/Psychology-Survivor-Psychologists-Unauthorized-Psychological/dp/1933771054/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485977095&sr=8-1&keywords=survivor+tv+show+psychology

I had a survivor themed bday party (at 28) and we did the below stuff that worked super well

  1. physical/puzzle - solve a really hard math problem to get a number. run into the forest and untie a bag of puzzle pieces that has that number on it. repeat a few times. once you have all of your bags, untie and solve the puzzle. This is the puzzle and it took a group of 4 software engineers about 20 minutes to solve.
  2. social - list of 10ish questions like "who is the most likely to pee in a pool? who do you want to bang?" etc that everyone answers personally, and then answers again guessing which person was the most answered answer
  3. endurance/balance - hold a tennis ball between ends of a solo cup and keep adding solo cups at set intervals until one person is left

As far as getting the episodes onto your tv, it's going to depend on what type of computer you have and what inputs you have on your tv.

A lot of newer computers have HDMI outs and if your TV has an HDMI in it's as straight forward as just connecting the two with an HDMI cord.

-----

If the computer is older, there is a good chance you have an S-Video out. Assuming your TV has an S-Video in, you'll need an S-Video cord.

If your computer doesn't have an S-Video or HDMI out, it definitely has a VGA out. VGA doesn't convert well to standard TV in's but there is a chance, if your TV is newer, that it will have a VGA in. If it does, you can connect with a VGA cord.

If none of the above options work and you're really desperate you can use a VGA to HDMI converter which is pricey. Obviously, your TV would need an HDMI in.

Now, the three solutions below the hyphens are only for video. For Audio you're going to need to run out of your headphone jack which can be done with a cord like this. You'll need to make sure that you match the audio cords to the video channel (the video jacks and corresponding audio jacks are usually next to each other on the TV). If you have a separate speaker system, you can also run the sound straight into that.

The Daniel Lue 2004 calender is one of my favorite Amazon pages of all-time. Just check out the reviews:

"Nice looking guy, but no nudity, and all the pictures are of him. This wasn't stated in the sales literature....was expecting maybe many guys, with the photographer's name being Lue. They were unclear."

"If you own the Mary-Kate and Ashley calendar you will notice many similarities such as 12 months and many days and a photo for each month. If you are concerned about the appropriateness, don't be because pants are worn throughout the calendar. It makes a great centrepiece for your Thanksgiving dinner, simply add autumn leaves and dried cranberry. You'll forget you don't eat turkey!"

"This is one cool calendar if i had a nickle for every really cool calender i saw i wouldn't have many but i'd have one for this because its cool"

Mark Burnett wrote a book about the making of Borneo. There have been a number of AMAs with contestants and people who worked on the show. Seems like you might be particularly interested in the AMAs with camera men who have worked on the show. The Survivor Historians podcast talk a good amount about behind the scenes stuff.

Not really more than going to your local casino and play live and have a good time with it now and then and see how it feels. Reading a poker book doesn't hurt in the beginning if you're into that. I can recommend Professional No-Limit Hold 'em for Texas Hold'em cashgame, although it's almost ten years old, and Harrington on Hold 'em for tournaments if you're a beginner although it's a bit outdated if you play seriously.

If you like to watch poker on tv I would recommend watching a show where it's more than coin flip all-in hands. Maybe a final table live stream with or without hole cards where you can try putting players on hands and to predict and understand what's happening. But you should basically try to have fun and learn while you play whichever stakes you're at. It's much more fun as a hobby than a job.

The most fun part about poker in my opinion is reading body language, breathing and eye contact and so on which is something that applies to all parts of life but it takes experience to be able to get that right whether it's about poker or going on dates, and some people will always remain clueless.

Back when I was a kid I used to play a P.C. game of Survivor. https://www.amazon.com/Survivor-Interactive-Game-PC/dp/B00005ME4Z, it came out after Australian Outback and before Survivor Africa, you'd get to play as one of the Contestants from those seasons. It wasn't great, but the challenges were kinda fun.

u/J_Toe · 1 pointr/survivor

I have the Harry Potter: Page to Screen book. The whole large ham acting and bad jokes thing is pretty much put down to the fact that Mike Newell is a bombastic eccentric, and wanted the film to have an awkward high-school humour to it, which just didn't fit. (Though I think a similar, yet very different, high-school-esque approach to humour was handled a lot better in HBP).

u/Swezident · 1 pointr/survivor

I would highly recommend The Psychology of Survivor, it's a really good book if you want to learn about the social psychology of the game.

u/school4life · 2 pointsr/survivor

Not sure what you're looking for but [this book] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1933771054/ref=pd_aw_sbs_14_2/155-9958942-9280840?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QET2WAW0XKM4PP5DK34R&dpPl=1&dpID=51e5k6KVmIL) seems to fit your description. There is also the book Mark Burnett wrote [here] (https://www.amazon.com/Survivor-Ultimate-Game-Mark-Burnett/dp/1575001438) that gave behind the scenes details about the first season.

u/howdoyouaccountforme · 3 pointsr/survivor

Quality video games like this one, for instance.

u/PrettySneaky71 · 1 pointr/survivor

OH and I also recommend that if possible you read "Survivor: The Ultimate Game" by Mark Burnett. He wrote it while Borneo was filming and it's deeply illuminating.

u/JustJaking · 2 pointsr/survivor

It's called When it was Worth Playing For. I haven't read the actual book but while he was writing it he put the drafts of the chapters relating to Borneo on his website, so I read those.
