I got really into frog fishing last year, but got tired of paying $4/frog, them not sitting in my tacklebox right, all that jazz. And I wanted a pack with multiple colors, without spending a ton of money buying individual lures.

So...

I worked directly with the manufacturers to create the best 5-frog value pack around. These are the same high quality full size frogs you buy for $4/piece. But theres five of em. And a free tacklebox to hold them in.

For less than $14 bucks total, and that includes USPS First Class shipping to your door... Youre set all for all season.

I used to have a crappy $12.99 tacklebox from walmart. It sucked.

Before my last fishing trip, I switched to my old backpack with 3 of these
http://www.amazon.com/Flambeau-Outdoors-5007-Tuff-Tainer/dp/B000EDTS1A stuffed inside.

Its AWESOME. It fits all of my lures, I can sort them way easier, I have enough room to bring along everything I need, and my hands are free for walking down steep trails to get to the water.

I also got a smaller double sided one. One side is weights, the other is hooks.

Its a really nice setup and I'm really happy with it.

I'm not recommending this set specifically, but if you're getting him an airbrush, he will probably need the compressor as well. Very thoughtful gift, BTW.

I have a Shimano Caenan 101 on a 7' St. Croix Mojo Bass and I love it, I've had it for a while and I have no complaints at all really, it casts medium to heavy lures a good ways out and I've never had a problem with the reel. It's a little over your budget but it can be tweaked, both are great on their own.

I mostly fish from the banks right now as well.

Would have been easier to use any other reel with schematics. At any rate I have sold several of those POS reels. As others have stated you can improve the internal components ( replace bearings to bocca orange seal etc.) But as most people know these cheap handles tend to wiggle free and come off if you reel backwards. I think it would be cool to have a quick release system to switch the handle over especially on cheap reels that would be used by multiple children. Some reels have cheesy bail flippers ( http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-IX-1000-Rear-Drag/dp/B0000C0533/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i) maybe you could design one that is done by depressing the reel seat.

This isnt the best idea. Practice tying the uni-knot, takes about 10 seconds and is invisible compared to what youre doing now. How often do you really need to re-tie a soft plastic hook anyway? Especially on a weightless rig like that wacky senko, its definitely going to affect the action, and be visible to the bass.

Now, if you have a rod you dedicate to crankbaits, one thing you can do is remove the split ring from all of your crank baits, and use JUST the clasp, NOT THE SWIVEL, of a snap swivel to attach to your cranks. The clasp will act like the split ring, and facilitate instant changes on your hard baits that way. Theres a video on youtube by YouTube Fishing Vids that shows what I mean here, heres a link if you want to check it out.

But in general, I really wouldnt recommend any extra hardware like that directly on bass lures. You should look into using a much smaller hook for wacky rigs too. I use a drop shot style hook, or a wacky hook with a weed guard. https://www.amazon.com/Gamakatsu-Split-Weedless-Hook-5-Black/dp/B0075D2ZIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481229279&sr=8-1&keywords=wacky+rig+hooks
Youll get much better hookups.

I was looking for a good weedless spoon, and happened upon this monstrosity... I've used it extensively, and haven't had so much as a nibble in areas that a regular gold or silver spoon would typically pick up at least a sea trout.

It doesn't quite spin through the water, depending on how fast you retrieve, it just... lumbers through, flopping back and forth lethargically... I'll probably try it out a bit more but when I first found it, I was intrigued by the weedless clip. To its credit, it works very well preventing the grass from getting snagged on the hook, but that's because the grass gets caught on the part that little ledge you see between the clip and where you tie the line on, so it doesn't have a chance to get snagged on the hook!

In going to suggest something different. Kids don't have the patience to sit and watch a bobber. They want action. Buy some small top waters and some small Crank baits(the ones that look like a cricket or an ant). Buy some inline spinners like these. I bought these for my kids. They will get them snagged in trees, so you'll appreciate having 30. Teach the kid how to cast and have him reel slowly.

Looks like a solid purchase to me.

I just got this Abu on sale for about the same price. But that Lew's looks good as far as I can tell from the reviews I see.

I remember seeing Larry Dahlberg talking about the Copic system. It doesn't appear to have all the hassles that conventional systems do. I haven't used it personally, but it looks neat.

It looks like a version of the Bomber model A, but that exact color scheme i could not find. This was as close as it came. There are several other colors there that might be worth a shot too! Maybe buy the Apple red crawdad and repaint the eyes red.

Also comes with a pretty decent protective case. Here's a link to it:

Daiwa sells a 2 piece Sweepfire casting rod, 6'6" MH fast action. Amazon has them for cheap. I bought one on a whim and quite like it. It's hardly a fancy rod, but it works and it's cheap if you need something quick.

a sheet of this non-slip drawer liner adhered to the top of the box.
