From what I have seen it would be a bit of a pain to get it working without a hub.

If you could find out what IP address it was using you could... control it via Tasker if you knew the command that it was expecting but I have had a brief look around and I can't find that information, and it looks like any native app is a pain in the arse.

If you don't mind cutting the electric cable/doing some wiring, these are a much better bet :D

I have a few of these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WS1IH0Y/ and they get the job done. Gets good reviews too. I ordered two last year and they haven't given me any issues. I am going to order a few more since they have a $5 off promo code going (code 9G59J3V9). Can't beat the price. I am a device whore and need as many charging stations as I can get. haha

Not an answer but you know that you can get a USB WiFi dongle for your laptop for $10 right? Something to consider

What I would do, is buy one of those clockwork mains timers, and program it so the tablet battery discharges overnight; simulating normal use. I say overnight because that's when you're not using it so you can arrange constant drain, perhaps by using Tasker to keep the display on.

Cost about $4 maybe $5.

I'm using this mount: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01AMGFY5M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also got a mount for my dad from eBay for really cheap, took a month to receive and works well, but the magnet just isn't as strong.

Tasker actually has a magnetic field state you can use without too much tinkering: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/help/sh_index.html

Put the phone in a box with a night light on mains power. If the light goes off, you have no power and the light sensor will detect that.

Or you can skip Rube Goldbergging the phone and buy one of these for the princely sum of $14.

MetaWatch Strata should be in your price range and can have notifications on the phone routed to the watch including alarms.

The problem will be battery life. MetaWatch is pretty miserly on battery but it does require recharging. Though if you only use it for waking up you can charge it when you're back home (only takes an hour) and wear it again as you go to sleep. It uses a proprietary "charge clip" that can be powered by any microUSB port.

Refurb is as low as $30, and you probably don't even need Tasker.

I am running a test on the watch right now to make sure it vibrates noticeably with alarm... stand by... ~~

EDIT: The clock's built-in alarm does NOT vibrate the watch. A calendar event will. However, it just buzzed once, not a continuous alarm. Sorry.

is what I bought - works fine with my Galaxy S6 to trigger Tasker tasks.

Also use the Android tools NFC Tools and Trigger (Trigger itself can call a Tasker event).
