Milton Zeis, tattooing as you like it (Yellow Beak Press) is great but hard to find. Yellow Beak has a couple other cool books but I think mostly out of print.

In my experience the best books are small-run publications put out by individual artists. For example, State of Grace shop puts out a lot of cool books that you wont find on amazon or in stores : https://www.stateofgracetattoo.com/product/

If anyone is interested, this book is a great read and includes more info and photos.

You should check out a book called The Cream of Tank Girl. It doesn't include any of the Gorillaz Artwork but rather material produced by Jamie Hewlett for the Tank Girl comics. It might be a good reference for creating a tattoo design based on his work though.

You should be ok with sunscreen. Just make sure it's fully healed before putting anything like that on it. Since it's on your shoulder you can just wear a loose shirt that covers it if it's still healing. My fiancee likes this stuff for her tattoos.

This is a pretty interesting read, but like the other comments have said, if you ask ten people what a tattoo means, you will get ten different answers.

Pretty close rendition to what DC themselves did, nice pick OP.

That's true. I have pretty sensitive skin and I can wear sunscreen after 3 weeks. My skin's at that onionskin phase of shininess but it's definitely healed. Nothing special about tattoo specific sunscreen I'm talking about this kind of thing.

That image is ©David Kimelberg taken from his book: http://www.amazon.com/INKED-Inc-Tattooed-Professionals-Kimelberg/dp/0979486807/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310093258&sr=8-1

I have shot with him for another tattoo project he is working on, he's a really great guy.

This method worked very well for me. I had no scabbing and no infections. I bought a bottle of provon from the tattoo parlor:

Watch the tape you use as some gave me a rash. I think I found the paper medical tape worked better for me.

good luck!

Beautiful tattoo. It reminds me of the children's book Stellaluna, which was a go-to bedtime story for me and my siblings when we were young.

Reminds me of the cover art to The Dog Stars. Beautifully written, bitter sweet, post-apocalypse story about man's relationship with nature and dogs.

That's a bogus policy. Tattoos don't make someone a bad teacher.

You could macramé a wide band bracelet or look for a silver cuff like this. Both would be "classy" and wouldn't be "gang related" like a bandana.

You could also try a silk or chiffon kerchief with a thin bracelet over it, which would be thriftable. If you get an obvious NOT A BANDANA pattern or that isn't solid it should pass fine.

Devon published an amazing book about his tattooing and experience with getting shot and rehabilitating to tattoo once more. Check it.

I cheated with Russian because I grew up bilingual. I learned Spanish (almost to fluency) and French (intermediate). Those are laughably beginner-level now. I can still read okay, though. Russian I still speak fluently, so .... I'm not the dumbest!

Here's a good edition:

The basic Bamboo is only $57 on amazon and that'll be plenty good enough to learn with.

Once you switch to lotion I can recommend
Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion with oatmeal.
That shits great for your skin.

>but there is no such thing as russian prison "style" tattoos.

tattoos that arose in Russian prisons in the beginning of, and remained a large part in the 20th century are very specific to the country

https://www.amazon.com/Russian-Criminal-Tattoo-Encyclopaedia-I/dp/0955862078

over the last couple decades, they've been gathered and documented in books and magazines. and yeah, artists now tattoo those very same images onto people. the guy in the picture OP posted says that all of his tattoos are medieval influenced, yet i do know the goat, cathead and alter are all taken from Russian criminal tattoo collections. he probably just went into a shop and flipped through a bunch of books and picked that out, and has attached his own personal story to it.

i've had the pleasure of traveling extensively for tattooing and while i haven't gotten a russian prison/criminal style tattoo yet, i've come close and met some cool artists who still preserve that culture.
