A revamp of a detailed accessories listing that I posted a few days ago:

Interior Essentials:

  1. Matte Screen Protector. When the sun is setting behind you as you drive, you will be blinded by reflections off the fingerprints and oil on your screen. A matte screen protector will prevent fingerprints and smudges from forming, while also diffusing reflected sunlight so it's not nearly as blinding. I got the Abstract Ocean one, but there are lots of good options.
  2. All-weather Floor Mats. The mats that come with the Model 3 are not good. I personally got the MaxPider 3D mats to replace them.
  3. Center Console Wrap: The piano-black center console is coated with a plastic that picks up fingerprints and scratches extremely easily, so you'll definitely want to install a vinyl wrap over top of it. I got one from Kenriko, and I'm very happy with it.
  4. 64GB+ USB thumb drive. Format it with the FAT32 file system, and put a folder at the root of the drive called "TeslaCam", then plug it into one of the two USB ports beneath the center display, under the phone dock. This will activate the built-in dashcam on your Model 3, and it will record everything that the front camera and two side cameras see in a 1-hour loop. You can then press the camera icon in the top right of the screen to permanently save the last ten minutes of recordings, in case you get into an accident, or see something else you want to keep. If you're a little more tech savvy, check out TeslaUSB, a Raspberry Pi-based storage system that will automatically copy dashcam and sentry clips to your computer at home.
  5. Ultra-bright trunk LEDs. The OEM LEDs that illuminate the trunk are pathetic. Get the Abstract Ocean ones for 16x more brightness, so you can actually see the contents of your trunk at night. You need two.

    Interior Optional:

  6. Interior door handle wrap. The Model 3's emergency door release handle is extremely easy for passengers to accidentally use to open the front doors. This is no longer as big of a deal as it once was (pulling it used to sometimes break your window, until a software update fixed it), but getting a wrap for at least the front doors is quite handy, as it'll cover up the emergency release handle, obscuring its purpose. The wrap is perforated, though, so you can still pull the handle in case of a real emergency. I got mine from RPMTesla.
  7. Dash wrap. If you got the black interior but you don't like the wood panel on the dash, wrapping it works great. I used this one from Abstract Ocean.
  8. Puddle Light Projectors. These things are cool, but a little pricey (~$45 for a pair). They replace the puddle lights, which shine down from the bottom of each door, with an ultra-bright LED that shines a Tesla-related logo onto the ground. I got the ones that shine the "Tesla T", but you can get all kinds of other ones. And I'd highly recommend getting the Abstract Ocean ones, as the other manufacturers that you can get these from for cheaper make them out of crap.
  9. The Ultimate Reflector. A windshield shade custom-built for the Model 3. It works great for keeping the sun off your interior while the car is parked outside all day when you're at work. Long term sun exposure will damage your seats and possibly overheat your center screen.
  10. "Door Open" Decals. If you find your passengers consistently forget how to open the door from the inside (like my mom...), these decals are awesome. Super cheap, but very effective.
  11. Aluminum "Performance" Pedals. There are replacement covers for your pedals that make them look like the Performance edition's pedals. IMO they're much snazzier than the default ones, and since the accelerator one is also a little larger and grippier than the default, it makes it easier to keep your foot planted on it without it sliding off. Be sure to get the ones that match your Tesla, though. The Model S/X ones are slightly too large for the Model 3.

    Exterior:

  12. Stronger Frunk Struts. The i1Tesla channel introduced the world to using stronger struts in the frunk to make it pop all the way open when you open it, rather than simply unlatching and sitting there, mostly closed. Get the ones from the link in the video description, rather than the ones that specifically advertise themselves as Model 3 frunk struts, though. Those guys just sell you the exact same piece of equipment for a massive markup compared to buying the originals off Amazon. i1Tesla also came up with a solution for the rear trunk, but I personally don't use it.
  13. Paint Protection Film (PPF): Tesla makes their cars in California, which has much stricter air quality laws than any other place in the world where cars get made. Thus, they need to use a slightly different paint formulation than other manufacturers, and this does lead to "softer" paint. If you want to protect your paint from rocks flying up from cars in front of you and taking chips out of it, Paint Protection Film is the only option. It's pricey, but some people find it worthwhile. You don't really need to get any more done than what installers generally call the "front package", which is the front bumper, hood, and side panels back to the forward doors (some will add the rocker panels below the doors, too). That personally cost me $1700 to have done in LA, using XPel PPF. The costs will be different depending on where you live and which brand and type of PPF you get.
  14. Ceramic Coat: If you want your car to be easier to hand-wash yourself, a ceramic coat can help. It's like painting a very thin layer of glass right on top of your paint, and it adds both a very high shine, and a hydophobic layer to your paint, which makes water run right off the surface.

If you plan to wash your car yourself, this video goes into good detail on how to go about it, including which washing products to buy.

    Apps:

If you're OK with using your Tesla account credentials in a third-party app (they don't ever upload said credentials anywhere, they just use them locally to generate a Tesla API token), you can do all kinds of extra stuff that the base Tesla app doesn't support. Like Siri Shortcuts that activate Summon, or automatic Sentry Mode when parked at any location that you haven't marked as "safe", or all kinds of additional statistics tracking. The two apps I've used are "Remote S" and "Stats: for Tesla model S/X/3". Those are for iOS, but I'm sure they, or something similar, are also available for Android.

There's also TeslaFi.com, which is a website that works much like the phone apps I just mentioned, but does all KINDS of extra stuff. One of my favorite features is that I've got it set up to send me a text right before I got to bed if my car is at home, but unplugged. And it can do sooo much more than that. It does cost $5/mo, though you can get a free month-long trial if you use any existing user's TeslaFi referral code.

Unless you're powder coating, I'd leave calipers alone. The paint never lasts as long as they're advertised to. Besides, the grey/silver calipers look nice even if left stock.

(relatively) inexpensive mods I've done:

  • Window tint; not only looks good, but saves you $$$ over time as your car uses less energy to keep the cabin cool
  • if you have aero wheels, you can take off the hubcap and cover the center hole and lugnuts with a kit that costs $50 from Tesla.
  • Might be placebo, but I believe this helps wind noise:
    https://www.amazon.com/AY-Customs-Windshield-Dampening-Reduction/dp/B07N1DXSH5
RPMTesla makes one too, but costs more and they have less than stellar customer service, according to this sub.
  • Full chrome delete may be pricey if you pay someone else, but there are inexpensive wrap for just the door handles on amazon, and are easy to install. Your hands will thank you on hot sunny days.
  • Tesla's paint repair kit. It's a great kit and I've already repaired several rock chips on the side panels, hood and front bumper and they disappeared completely. Follow their video instructions. You'll never consider an expensive wrap after learning how to do this properly.
  • Not exterior, but /u/kenriko's excellent center console wrap really transforms the fingerprint-magnet interior.

I don't have an extension cable, just the adapter I linked but evse does sell extension cables as well and since I've had a good experience with their adapter I'd probably buy extension cable from them as well if I needed one.

I would assume this would work but I'd be Leary daisy chaining third party adapters together which is what you'd be doing. Is the extension cable necessary for your use scenario? Could you get by with just the adapter and your UMC?

Here's evse's adapter. You could email them and ask them if it would be ok to use the adapter and extension cord together.

https://www.evseadapters.com/collections/adapters-for-tesla/products/heavy-duty-nema-14-50-extension-cord-for-tesla-20-ft

I'll also add that I just searched on amazon for Tesla 10-30 adapter and found this adapter. It also lists an extension cable that is frequently purchased together. I can't speak to the quality of these though but the reviews look positive. Always hard to tell. All I can say is the one I have has worked flawlessly and I used it nearly every day for a year. Here's the one from amazon though.

Hey guys, I'm getting a P3D and have a question about Sentry mode/Tesla Cam recording. I've bought a JEDA Box because I wanted to keep a Wireless charger + a SSD for recording.

Would it be better to go for a portable SSD like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078SWJ3CF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&th=1 , or a SD card with a reader like this: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Endurance-128GB-Micro-Adapter/dp/B07B984HJ5/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title ?

I'm just trying to find the best solution + disk size needed if I wanted to keep it installed for a while. I live in TX so the car may be outside during the summers if that affects the temperatures of the devices, not too sure what to go for.

Hey Joe, I'm still new here but, welcome!

#4: I've had this one for nearly a year and it has been great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KNZC63H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also installed these button labels: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MXYBPYH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 since most people are confused on how to open the doors. It worked!

Since I find "piano black" surfaces on every car entirely cheap-looking, I covered mine with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KN468WN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Finally, I dropped these in the cup holders and storage spaces: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JLGZKD8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You'll be very happy with your car, accessories or not.

I got some car guys super cleaner
https://www.amazon.com/CarGuys-Super-Cleaner-Effective-Upholstery/dp/B071XB18BF

Works well. Recently found some blue jean stain transferred on the driver seat and it wiped off easily with some dog wipes I had in the car (probably the same as baby wipes, but 10x more expensive, haha).

Enjoy the X! I almost went there, and I think eventually I’ll have one too :)

I bought the 32gb version of this usb for my Dashcam, but it worked for about a day and hasn't worked since. I know others have had success with the 128gb version but just wanted to check before I bought, and to see if people have had better luck with others.

Based on the feedback so far, I'm leaning toward the Sandisk Ultra Fit.

In order of importance, my decision factors...

  • The small form factor will reduce the chance of me hitting it accidentally and possibly breaking the port.

  • It is fairly cheap at $19 for 64GB version. This allows me to store at least 1 day of video and reduce the number of re-writes.

  • The write-speed is not a factor, but USB 3.0 should be more future proof if Tesla changes the system, or if i re-purpose the drive to another task. If you want the older version with 2.0, it is even less expensive.

  • Endurance doesn't seem to be a popular concern, so ignoring it for now. I am slightly concerned with operating temperature [32°F to 113°F (0°C to 45°C)] and storage temp [14°F to 158°F (-10°C to 70°C)], but we'll see how it goes this winter. Those more further north than me can report in if they have success or failure.

  • I also ignored the WiFi capability because if i need to unplug the device, there is no reason to use it. I'm still curious if SD based cards like the Toshiba Flash Air W-04 would have a different behavior. I bought one for my digital camera, so i'll give it a try in the Tesla too. The cost is significantly higher, but if i can access dash cam videos from my cell phone and before getting home and without unplugging, that would be a big plus. (also need to find the right SD to USB adapter.)

Thanks for helping me think it out.
u/KyleMC · 2 pointsr/teslamotors

Can you upload a couple of pics or short video of what the setup looks like under the charging pad? I wasn’t sure it would have enough clearance. Would be nice to see either way. Also, seems like if that brand of splitter would work, this one would have to work too: Onvian USB Splitter Cable Male to 2 Female Adapter USB A Cord 2 Port Hub for Data Charging Syncing (Only one Port for Data) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KX4TKH6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_j4iSBb98Z0AHZ. Assuming that, I wonder what would be the most aesthetically pleasing would be.

u/hmspain · 2 pointsr/teslamotors

I went with;

Samsung MUF-256AB/AM FIT Plus 256GB - 300MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive

and have had no issues;

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D7Q41PM/

It has the additional benefit of being small, so it is hard to see down in the compartment with the USB ports. I just marked the top with a silver sharpie and insert it by feel as necessary.

You will need to format it FAT32 (3rd party programs are available free to do this), and you will have to create a "TeslaCam" folder on the drive before you insert it.

u/TheKobayashiMoron · 3 pointsr/teslamotors

Looks good. Other people have posted that getting a new Aero wheel from a service center is only $200, but this type of repair is a nice option for people that aren't close to one. Plus I'm sure theres labor and stuff on top of the $200.

This touch-up pen is a great match for minor damage.

u/onestopunder · 3 pointsr/teslamotors

Get a 128GB or larger Samsung FIT drive. Works perfectly and has worked for me since day 1. As an added bonus, it's practically invisible.

u/legolasxvi · 11 pointsr/teslamotors

Please be careful of temperature tolerances. I bring this up every time someone posts a drive suggestion thread so I'll paste in my usual response:

Be careful with the temperature tolerances of the drives you use if you live in a market with seasons. I looked at the T5 but nyxed it when I saw it's only rated for 5-35 degrees C (41-95F). In Chicago we regularly get well above and below those temps in a car. Cabin overheat won't even kick in yet at 95.
I switched to the Samsung Fit Plus 256gb when I went through 2 other drives last year (polar vortex and one of the drives being a T5) and hazarded a guess that it was too cold and killing the drives. -25°C to 85°C operating limits on this drive (-13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit). No issues since. Drive capacity is less but now with the self erasing in v10 I don't have to pop it out and erase once a month. Muuuuuch better temp tolerances and physically much smaller drive is nice as it isn't hanging from a cable in the front compartment.

You won't find a dryer extension cord.

The solution is to buy an adapter that converts from the dryer outlet to a NEMA 14-50. That allows to use the charger included with your X. But, as noted, you need to dial down the current to 24A (80% of the 30Amp dryer outlet). The car's charger thinks its plugged into a 50Amp outlet, and it is, but on the end of your adapter. The car will try and draw 40Amps (80% of 50Amps) and blow the breaker on your dryer outlet. So, in the car, dial the current down to 24A.

If the cord on the charger that came with your X is not long enough, and it's pretty long, then you need a NEMA 14-50 extension cord. They are not cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Camco-55194-PowerGrip-Extension-Cord/dp/B002XL2IG8/

Warning: There are two types of dryer outlets in the USA depending upon when the outlet was installed. The older one with only three pins (a 10-30 outlet), and the newer one with four pins , a 14-30. So, you should pick up a converter for both if you don't know what style dryer outlet your friend has.

I bought a Micro SD card and reader recommended on a Tesla forum. To my delight, it has both USB A and USB C plugs, so I can in fact play it on my phone! Actually, it was critical, because Android will happily create 128GB FAT32 partitions while Windows 7 & 10 will not.

Are these the ones? It looks like adding the trunk and frunk mats goes up to $200.

How's the hexagon pattern? Looks like it would be tough to get dust out. May have to spray them out. But they look like they hold water and snow pretty well.

u/Flames5123 · 1 pointr/teslamotors

I have these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0792RW471/

It doesn't cover the dead-pedal, but that part is easy to clean.

I love the mini pockets everywhere, so if you spill something, it's hard to smear everywhere. It stays very contained.

u/snapbangclick · 1 pointr/teslamotors

I don't have dogs but I've been super pleased with this and have seen several people speak highly of it.

u/WeGooded · 1 pointr/teslamotors

I have no experience with the 3rd party versions, but the official Tesla one is just part of the car. It feels like it was always there and will last with the car.
It was tough to justify the price, but I’m glad I did.

I got two Onvian splitters, neatly plugged in, wound up on themselves and used some black electrical tape to tuck everything up behind the pad. Thumb drive is up in there a bit, but accessible. Same with the ‘spare’ open USB port.

u/Gur814 · 3 pointsr/teslamotors

It depends on the type of outlet. First, try to find an official adapter from Tesla. With the official adapter, your car will automatically detect the correct amps and volts for the plug.

If Tesla doesn't make an official adapter, you can try to find one online that converts to NEMA 14-50 and use the included 14-50 plug from Tesla. The downside to this is that the Tesla will think you're using a NEMA 15-50 plug and will attempt to draw power for that type of plug. Before plugging in, go into charge settings and lower the amps to what the outlets is actually capable of. For a 30 amp outlets, lower it to 24.

For example, my garage has a NEMA 10-30 outlet. Tesla used to make an adapter for this, but they don't anymore so I had to resort to 3rd party adapters. I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00STD8S7C/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482324615&sr=8-2&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=nema+10-30+to+14-50+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41KnxpPUD%2BL&ref=plSrch

This adapter works well, but I have to lower the amps to 24 before charging. I wish Tesla would just let me buy their official 10-30 adapter. It would be much safer since the car would automatically grab the correct amount of amps.

Interesting. I actually have a usb splitter so I can run a ssd in the car. That means one of the two cables to the wireless pad is power-only. I'll check to see if it's the one side that is functional. Thanks =)

edit: heres the cable https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KX4TKH6/

Just checked and the one with this splitter is the one functioning. So I ordered a second one. Will allow me to add a second ssd to boot.

Same issue here.

I had this SanDisk since April.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BGTG41W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was only using the dashcam and that seemed to work well. Then, I decided to start using the Sentry mode and after the latest update saw this same error.

So, I did a bit of research and found this solid state flash drive with a tested ~260MB/s write speed.
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-of-the-fastest-usb-3-0-flash-drives-you-should-buy/
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU8TZRV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So, I decided to order this to see how it works. It also has good reviews, so I have some confidence.

u/DopeWeasel · 3 pointsr/teslamotors

Anything over 32gb might be overkill and will require 3rd party tools to format in FAT32. Release notes state the cam uses 1.8gb per hour of video. I got this one and it seems to work great: SanDisk Ultra Fit 32GB USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BGTG41W?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/TeslaLifeisGreat · 4 pointsr/teslamotors

So here is what I have in my Tesla. Keep in mind that this is also being used with the Nomad wireless charging pad and I’ve had absolutely no issues since switching to this setup.

  1. USB 3.0 Hub

  2. MicroSD Card

  3. Flash Memory Reader/Writer

I previously fell victim to the repeated error regarding the read/write speed after the update back in the July/August timeframe. I can no longer find the article but there was a very detailed article on the subject with recommendations on the best drives etc.

I can assure you 100% that this setup has worked fine for me without issue since purchase and that even involves having the wireless charging pad plugged into the USB hub. While it’s not quite as big as your drive it’s enough to last months without formatting it.

Sorry for the late reply - I ordered Left/Right, though I think Up/Up might've been better. In any event, I just recycled a small USB hub I had lying around (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JX1ZS5O), and it worked just fine for both power and storage. I figure I would have to use a hub at some point, since the DVR memory supposedly requires that you connect it directly to the port. I... personally don't see why this is required from a technical point of view, so I can only presume it must be a disclaimer, since they don't want to get in the business of certifying extension cords and hubs.

I hope they announce some details about the memory capacity requirements for the DVR, as that would help me pick out what type of memory to purchase -- in the meantime, I'll just throw a 128GB on it for now and see how far that gets me... Uhh, once I get v9, of course. :)

I tested this with my PC and only one of the splits is able to do data/power for sure.

I got a Nomad and I love it. The Nomad pad was extremely grippy and my iPhone X does not slide no matter how fast I go around corners.

I’m not sure if they updated this in the new version, but the original version needed to use both front USB ports in order to turn on (which blocks you from using the new v9 dashcam feature). If you want to use the built in dashcam feature, you might have to get something like get this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JX1ZS5O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_l232n94kEzJ9E

I've seen this recommended on the Tesla Facebook discussion. It depends a bit on whether the color is removed or the material is actually scratched - and I can't tell from the photos.

https://www.amazon.com/Solution-Finish-Black-Plastic-Restorer/dp/B006NZRAFE/

If the material underneath is actually scratched away you might need some sort plastic/vinyl repair.

If this is sort of scratch mark made by the material being left behind - like chalk or something leaving a mark behind - then I'd clean it with something like this:

u/brandude87 · 16 pointsr/teslamotors

I used to have the same USB drive as you, and it also gave me the same error message. Unfortunately, USB drives aren't really meant for constant re-writing, and wear out pretty quickly. What you need is a high endurance microSD card and USB adapter. The "high endurance" cards are designed specifically for dashcams and are made to handle constant re-writing. After upgrading to the high endurance card, I have perfect quality videos with no more error messages.

I'm pretty sure it's not possible to format drives from an iPad or iPhone. I use GUIFormat on Windows to format drives to FAT32.

u/rabidchinchilla · 1 pointr/teslamotors

ok, so like the second one I posted. The triangle in the middle isn't part of the plug receptacle. Well, that is an old dryer plug and to use it you would need a 10-30 adapter. Telsa sold these at one time but I don;t believe they do any more. The alternative would be an adapter like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Conntek-30-Amp-Electric-Vehicle-Adapter/dp/B00STD8S7C

BUT!!! if you were to use an adapter like the one above, a NEMA 10-30P to 14-50, you must manually set the amps on the screen of the car, otherwise you will overload the circuit. The car will think it's connected to a 14-50 (50 AMP) circuit when its actually connected to a 10-30 (30 AMP) circuit. The standard is to only pull 80% of the circuit so you should set the amps on the screen of the car to 24 when you plug in. This would still give you a charge rate over 7 times faster than a standard 110 outlet.

Edit: and to add, I have no idea where to get one of these adapters locally. They do not have a common use.

Depending on how much rash there is, other users use this touch up pen to simply recolor the bare metal, as it's a near perfect match for the original rim color.

u/jiserrab · 1 pointr/teslamotors

Been using this USB thumb drive since March. Only seen a gray or 1/2 gray video a couple times. I’d get corrupt videos (500kb with no recordings) maybe 6 files out of hundreds that were saved. I’ve never long pressed to disable prior to removing the drive. Once I’ve reviewed the relevant footage I just delete the irrelevant videos and save the others to my computer and return the drive to car and go on recording with an empty “Saved files” folder. I’ve never deleted any files from the recently saved folder.

Edit: TM3 AWD w/EAP since September & currently on 2019.24.4.

Edit 2: so is EAP Enhanced Auto Pilot or Early Access Program? Just reading through and it dawned on me. I’m not part of Early Access Program but I do have Enhanced Auto Pilot.

You can also partition the flash drive so that you can record off the Teslacam and play music at the same time, while charging your phone, all from 1 USB port.

Once I get the Jeda pad, I'm going to plug one of the chargers into the cigarette lighter, so then I won't need the splitter.

E: You could remove one of the ports, plug the splitter into it, and replace with one of the splits, with the other split hidden behind with the drive installed.

I tried with this one with the Apple adapter, complained about needing more power. Once I also plugged in the lightning charge cable it worked. A bit clumsy though. iOS 13 PB1 iPhone 8+ has been mostly fine for me, fwiw.

Don't know about wireless charging, but I bought this splitter. One side is for my USB reader/micro SD card. The other side for the included charging dock cable. Works fine.

I have this one coming in. I saw a few posts on here say that it worked well.

Ordered same. They are very good but passenger side curles up when I accelerate. I think any matt not tacked down would in P3D :))

Format the drive to FAT not ExFAT

Go with this one because I’ve had no issues what so ever: Samsung MUF-64AB/AM FIT Plus 64GB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7P4SY4?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Have the Jeda. And this splitter to still use the dashcam feature.

After the update recently killed the ability to use both ports in the front my wireless chargers cords are both plugged into the splitter. Works great.

Many drives have faster read/write speed in higher storage models. So even you don’t need all the storage, choosing a larger one may still be worth it.

This one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC/ for example, is 300 MB/s read speed for 128 GB ones and above, and 200 MB/s for smaller ones.

I use this from Samsung: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_4hwgDbDZHKFJ4

All cameras are fine during driving, it’s strictly sentry mode.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-T5-Portable-SSD-MU-PA500B/dp/B073GZBT36 I've never had anything appear ON SCREEN like the X.

Rarely the files don't write properly or have artifacting but I think most people have concluded that is unrelated.

Bought the Onvian USB splitter cable from Amazon and it allows charging and Tesla cam at the same time.

You can buy a simple splitter from Amazon so that you have both chargers and the USB flash drive. I'm using one in my Model 3 at the moment for MP3s.

We just put a 500GB SSD in -they are on sale right now on Amazon.

I used this tool (will download upon clicking) to format the 500GB drive to FAT32 in Windows.

I went with this mini drive from Samsung since the description mentioned it could tolerate high temps. I’ve heard good things on Samsung’s flash memory vs lower end SanDisk.

Edit: whoops, here’s the link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7P4SY4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hO1XBbDWT3HEG

Edit edit: how could I make this a smile link without going to a desktop?

u/dhanson865 · 3 pointsr/teslamotors

depends on if you want best value or money is no object. It also matters if you live somewhere that is very hot or very cold.

The cheapest I'd recommend is the 256GB https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC . It has a 5 year warranty but the lower capacity you get the less time it'll last in a Teslacam usage scenario. The 128GB version isn't likely to last a year in that sort of demanding write cycles. The 256GB might last a year or two.

Those handle some temps that SSDs don't and it's not large so it is less likely to be noticed by a burglar/vandal.

A higher capacity SSD will last longer but you might save money in the long run by replacing a thumb drive every couple of years instead of paying up front for a more expensive drive.

This is a common one used by Model 3 owners:

I don't think it's exact but fairly close.

For most affordable, I've heard this is a very close color match to the wheels.

Order this off amazon: Dupli-Color AFM0360 Dark Shadow... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HE66OK8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

that’s all I did. A little filling and they look almost new.
