The info /u/shakezula gave you is all good. The one thing I would add, is you only need a SIM card for 4G LTE data, Sprint uses CDMA for voice and text.
I would like to give you a phone suggestion. The HTC Evo was released in 2010, over 4 years ago and it is very outdated. You're looking at buying it used for $45, I would strongly recommend spending $80 to buy the MotoG brand new. You won't regret it, the battery life is excellent and spec wise beats everything about the HTC Evo. Plus the software is up to date and unbloated. If you want to see a side by side comparison of specs click here.
If you buy the MotoG make sure you buy the Boost model and don't turn it on until you have entered the ESN and activated it on Ting. If you have questions on activating it someone else has written a good guide on bring the MotoG to Ting, link here.
Please don't buy an HTC EVO, trust me on the phone...
Also make sure the ESN for the iPhone you buy on eBay is clean, if it is not you won't be able to use it on Ting. Also there is one other good place to buy used phones, swappa.
^(Also if you don't have a referral link to use yet let me know and I'll PM you mine)
It depends what you need. I initially thought 32 GBs on my Nexus 5 wouldn't be enough, but once I chose to download my ~1000 or more songs on Spotify in normal quality instead of 320kbps, I now have tons of free space. Your usage may be different, but depending on what you use it for, a Nexus 5 may be the better option...and if it is, you should get it instead.
MicroSD card holder.
Get an OTG cable and a good SD/MicroSD reader, and you're golden.
OTG is awkward? Yes. Can you have more data, images, and movies than any other phone user in the world? Yes.
is it a sprint phone or at&t/tmobile phone? pretty much the only phones that won't work are SUPER OLD phones with the old style IMEIs and Verizon phones.
I have a tmobile burner that will work with ting service with a Ting GSM sim card, so it should work as long as the bands line up.
It's not like it will have 4G anyway, right?if this is the same device, https://www.amazon.com/PRIV-BlackBerry-Factory-Unlocked-Smartphone/dp/B0169SNI3C, then it looks iffy. AT&T fully compatible, but not Tmobile? that's kinda weird.
Have you tried asking Ting Chat for help? they are super helpful and have probably answered this question before. way faster than calling too. you can share the link to the phone you want to order and they will check it out.
Good luck!
just upgraded from AT&T and an iPhone 4 to ting and the [Sharp Aquos Crystal] (http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-Crystal-Silver-Contract/dp/B00O15E3MQ). It is easy to activate, looks gorgeous, and is a great price. i was skeptical and reluctant to get a $130 phone and saw it as a downgrade to my iphone, but i am really pleased. the 4G is very nice, smooth operation, and great battery life. the only downside is the camera is not a good as more expensive phones, but i can do with grainy pics.
Hopes this helps!
Yes, it's possible. We do not throttle, meter or otherwise shape your traffic on the network.
> No data cap or throttling.
Correct. Price is something different, though. As you use more data, your Ting bill grows. At the 2GB mark, it's $10/GB.
The device you have just isn't compatible with the network is all.
It supports
4G LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz
and3G UMTS 900/2100 MHz
which is a big swing-and-a-miss for Ting GSM or any T-Mobile powered network in the states. For reference, your Ting GSM BYOD frequencies are:
We don't currently have any in the shop, but any T-Mobile branded or unlocked LTE hotspot would work fine. I've heard good things but can't bring myself to pull the trigger on this one from Netgear. The comments suggest it's 2/4/12 compatible.
This one will do 2/4 (No 12, 66 or 71) and gets generally favorable reviews.
Just keep in mind that all data usage on all devices connected to these things (except intra-network data between clients) will be billed at regular Ting data rates. I cannot stress that enough.
Since it sounds like you have a CDMA phone, you will unfortunately need a new SIM card to activate any unlocked GSM phone. You can buy them from Amazon if that is an option.
The CDMA prepaid phones for the most part do not work on Ting for 1 year as you mentioned... you could try checking MEID numbers of some of the CDMA phones at Best Buy, but I wouldn't count on them working. If one does, let us know.
Your best bet is to probably buy a Nexus 5X from them and make sure to get the correct Sprint SIM card, model #SIMGLW446C, to go with it (they should also have that at Best Buy).
I was looking at the Moto C Plus link and it looks like it is an international version. It doesn't list the right frequencies to connect to the LTE network so I might stay away from this particular one. There is a Personal Shopper Program here at Ting that could help you find a version of the phone for you. They could also find some other options to choose from that you might not have that of.
As for switching over from the old phone to the new phone it's going to depend on what network you are on at the moment and which one you'll be moving to with the new phone. You might need a new SIM card depending on the new phone you choose but we have guides or our support line to help when you are ready to switch it over. Determining which new phone you are going to use is going to be the first step, then after that, we'll be able to know what the next steps are. We'll be here to help along the way though.
right now bestbuy has the sprint pre-paid moto e for $40 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sprint-prepaid-motorola-moto-e-4g-with-8gb-memory-no-contract-cell-phone-black/2729581.p?id=1219563946201&skuId=2729581
i have the sharp aquos crystal and am very happy with it. they can be had for $90 http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-Crystal-Silver-Mobile/dp/B00O15E3MQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1450371931&sr=1-4&keywords=sharp+aquos+crystal
on a side note for the sharp, i have the screen protector and case in the " frequently bought together" section. for that 1 cent, you get 6 screen protectors and they are pretty easy to install. the case is very nice and gives the phone some needed thickness and grip. the kickstand is handy too.
I like my Blu phone and they have cheap ones. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B018IZ0SWI/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481491831&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=BLU&dpPl=1&dpID=41mXjdLezRL&ref=plSrch
They're pretty basic android set ups. Get into a chat with ting and link them the phone and your address, they'll be able to help you out. That's how I made sure.
If I buy the GSM version I can just BYOD like any other sprint phone? That's awesome! I'll probably do that then!
Does the 4g version work?
This is what you are talking about
But does this one work?
The Boost-branded Aquos Crystal is unofficially supported for BYOD. Amazon actually seems to be the best place to buy one because of their return policy. Keep the packaging and shipping box, so that if activation doesn't work for whatever reason, you can factory reset the thing, initiate a return, print out the return label, and get your money refunded.
http://amazon.com/dp/B00O15E3MQ
The LG Tribute is exactly that price at Best Buy and on Amazon.com The only feature of the phone that is noticeably cheap is the 480 x 800 screen resolution. Otherwise it competes with phones several times more expensive.
The prepaid Sprint one I kinked too isn't officially supported by Ting, but in my, and several other users', experience, it works great on Ting.
Hey guys, Amazon has priced matched at $60... if you haven't pulled the trigger yet, this is a crazy good price for this phone.
http://www.amazon.com/Moto-Boost-Mobile-Prepaid-Phone/dp/B00HPP3VW2
I am seriously considering getting a Moto G, probably from Boost Mobile since they have it for $80. But I am worried it won't work with Ting. Should any new, no-contract Sprint phone work with Ting, from any vendor (provided it isn't super new and not yet supported?)
Or hey, this phone on Amazon is even less. I just don't know if a no-contract phone from Boost will work.
This one will definitely work with Ting (both GSM and CDMA networks).
if I buy this particular product from Amazon, it should work on Ting, correct?
...or do I have to purchase the phone from directly from Sprint?
< $200?
Buy the brand new moto g4 from amazon $150 if you are a member of prime and are okay with ads (and a locked bootloader) or $199 if you are not a member of prime or don't want ads. The ads themselves aren't bad, generic Amazon nonsense from dash buttons to detergent. I dislike lock screens and the ads force you to use a lockscreen.
https://www.amazon.com/Moto-4th-Generation-Exclusive-Lockscreen/dp/B01EZC9WC0
Terrific phone, comes unlocked, works on Sprint, TMo, everywhere in the US.
Selling for $121 on amazon today (boost version).
Ting also has their SIM cards for sale on Amazon. If you're a Prime member you can get it faster.
https://www.amazon.com/Ting-GSM-SIM-card-Nationwide/dp/B013LKL5IQ
Boost Moto G for $65, instructions on activating here.
Also available at Amazon for the same price.
You could try purchasing the Ting SIM via Amazon and having it shipped to your current/future location.
Will this work?
I'm not certain if Ting ships internationally, but I believe you can order one from the Amazon US site
You should check the ting site first to verify which SIM you need for your phone and check the compatibility of your ESN.
