How cheap do you want to go?
The Obsidian is on sale at walmart for $40. It's a very impressive device for $40 or $60 though my key complaint about it is that my particular device's screen is fairly dim when it comes to its auto-brightness feature. At least it does auto-adjust its brightness, unlike the LG Leon. Its speaker also punches way above its weight.
Carrier aggregation is a flagship-level feature for the most part. I don't think it's enabled on the snapdragon 210 devices though I know the modem supports 2x10 carrier aggregation- not that it'd be all that useful for most markets. IMO carrier aggregation isn't a very useful feature for most people/locations on tmo... I wouldn't call this a must-have at all, especially if you want to go cheap.
---
My recommendations:
Diminishing returns due to having less than 1.5 GB of RAM
with VoLTE(Edit: no VoLTE and band 12 has to be manually enabled if so desired) and WiFi calling: $40 ZTE Obsidian. It might not be available much longer since ZTE is launching a very similar phone soon that occupies basically the same part of the market with similar specs.Honorable mention: the $150 Blu Life One X and similar 5.5" Blu Vivo XL (releasing in the next month-ish) perform better than all mentioned except the Nexus. The only real caveat is that these don't have VoLTE, otherwise I'd have purchased >4 already.
Notes:
monthweek, Walmart retail options (same phone, discounted price) generally follow in a few weeks. Some features will be better but you'll still only have 1 GB of RAM :(The cheapest comparable phone offered directly by TMobile right now is the LG G4 for $400:
http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phones/lg-g4.html#Metallic-Gray-
Some people have said that it's not as smooth running as other phones though. But it does have a very nice screen.
Some people like the Moto X Pure Edition - we know for sure that it's getting Band 12 in the next few weeks here because some people part of early testing already have it (in addition to official announcements). It's offered on Amazon, but not directly from TMobile. It's one major drawback is that it lacks Wifi Calling because it's a 3rd party phone. It has a decent screen, I think comparable to the Nexus 5.
I personally have a ZTE Axon Pro ($400):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0118QFRNE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
I got this rather than the other options (returning a Moto X) because I've personally found that this phone has the best screen that's the easiest for my eyes to focus with compared to the other phones I looked at or tried. It has Band 12 right now. It also lacks wifi calling unfortunately. I don't know what it is about the screen - the Moto X screen was much nicer than the Htc m9 screen I had before it, but the ZTE Axon Pro screen - there's just something about it that my eyes really like. Dunno if it applies to other people though, my eyes have always been a little weird about focusing on text.
The ZTE Axon Pro has a 32gb model from Amazon Warehouse deals on sale for $300 right now ("very good" condition so it's probably a phone someone bought tried and it was fine but they went with another model), that's probably the best price. After I installed the software update on it it's been a great phone for me.
There's also a Nexus 5x available, it's sold through Google but not directly through TMobile. It doesn't have Band 12 yet though they've said it will officially get it. It's gotten middling reviews though.
The easy choice to suggest is the LG G4 because it's sold directly by TMobile and it's a decent phone. I have not used it myself. I have the ZTE Axon Pro, that's personally my favorite at the moment.
P.S. This page has a list of all the Band 12 phones available for tmobile, both from tmobile direct and not:
http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones
It's easy to find a budget phone directly from tmobile, but they tend to be laggy in everyday use. The ZTE Axon Pro I can tell you is very responsive (after software update) and fast and $300 is probably the cheapest band 12 capable phone I know of right now, that's not a low end budget phone.
While this one won't meet all your desired specifications, at a mere $149, consider the Blu Life One X (2016). It's compatible with T-Mobile and has Band 12. So unless they work with T-Mobile, HD Voice and VolTE and Wifi Calling won't make it in. Supposedly Marshmallow will come to the device around March 2016. It does have a MediaTek Octacore (roughly around the performance of the Snapdragon 801 often used last year), dual-sim slot, MicroSD card support, 2GB of RAM, 13MP and 5MP cameras, an aluminum frame, and 5.2" 1080P display. But reading some reviews, it lacks in some areas that some may find crucial
It's not an amazing device that'll blow your socks off. But at the price point (especially if you got it for $99 when it first launched 2 weeks ago), it's a great device–definitely better than a Galaxy S3.
I did manage to pick up a couple of ZTE ZMax's for $45 at Walmart (under Family Mobile) before they first stopped selling them. That's also a great low-mid end device (great battery life).
I also have used the Moto X Pure. Currently, no Wifi-calling (not sure about HD Voice and VoLTE, either. Does have Band 12 support on Marshmallow now.
The best device that meets your requirements is the Nexus 5X. For the price of $329, you get timely updates directly from Google, you get HD Voice, VoLTE, Band 12 and Wifi-Calling, fast charging, USB Type C, a great display, and more.
Realistically, it all depends on how much you want to spend and what features you want.
I was searching Phonescoop, but am not sure if that's all of my options, or if their database is accurate. For example, they show the ZTE Axon Pro as not being released yet, while Amazon has reviews dating back to August 2015 for it.
I prefer off-screen (not the software-driven ones) buttons.
Ability to accept a microSD card would be nice, but is not required.
LTE bands 2/4/12, VoLTE, and WCDMA bands 2/4 (3G) are all requirements.
Going to the 50th anniversary Star Trek convention in Vegas this year in August, and I need to bring back some great picture memories, and my Galaxy Avant's camera (specced as 5 MP, tops out at 4.9 MP, but in 4:3, 3.7 MP is the max in 16:9) won't cut it!
So I was able to get a 20% off code and signed up through the website and have a tracking code. I have a few questions on how to properly sign up for T-Mobile:
Thank you in advance!
> Does it set you up with a monthly plan with 5gb data for real?
Maybe, but the plan is real.
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/other-prepaid-plans
> Do you have to get one of these every month, or does it just set it up like a normal plan?
Multiple payment options:
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-refill
Or you can buy it here:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/T-Mobile-Complete-SIM-Kit/39081494
Or activate a new line online yourself here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LPPHHFK/
> Also, can it work with a Samsung Galaxy s4? Or will I need to switch phones?
Not very well, I would recommend a better network compatible phone.

https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/4dhnlo/any_recommendations_for_a_sub200_phone/
> I also read you can stream video without using data, does this apply to this plan?
Unofficially, yes with Binge On but this can change at any time given it's a prepaid plan
that was probably the most popular phone + plan of /r/android in 2012 (fond memories).
definitely doable, but why not go for a Moto G instead? better gpu, better battery life, much better screen, same mp camera.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-2nd-generation-Unlocked/dp/B00MWI4HW0/ref=dp_ob_title_def
http://www.amazon.com/BLU-Life-One-Smartphone-Unlocked/dp/B0189RMNTG Have you thought about this one (10 bucks less than what you asked but still)? This phone is pretty insane for the price. 1080p screen, 13 mp camera, great processor, LTE support. Otherwise I might recommend the Moto G.
You already have an activate account, number, and the $30 plan. You just need to perform a SIM swap. You can go to a T-Mobile store to do this (but the SIM will cost $20) or you can get a $4.99 SIM starter kit from Best Buy or Amazon (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/t-mobile-complete-sim-starter-kit-white/8699899.p?skuId=8699899 or https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK, call into customer service, and perform a SIM swap. Do NOT buy a new SIM from the T-Mobile website; these are not meant for replacements, and will come pre-activated. While they can be deactivated and reused, it's a hassle and easier to just get a new SIM put on your account at a T-Mobile store, or get a blank, inactive SIM from Amazon or Best Buy.
I'd check out the BLU One Life X, only $150 so it's below your budget, it comes with a flipcase and a screen protector. It has 2GB ram unlike some other lower end phones, and 1080p 5.2" screen for great one handed use, also band 12 support and Ive been getting great battery life, but no removable battery.
Other wise I'd keep an eye open for used LG G4 if you want to spend more but get something more powerful, hopefully the price will drop now that the LG G5 is coming out.

Ok so this one is pretty straightforward. You're looking for a great phone that isn't an iPhone and works well with T-Mobile?
check out the Nexbit Robin. It supports VoLTE and Band 12 after an update. only $149
https://www.amazon.com/Nextbit-Robin-Factory-Unlocked-Smartphone/dp/B01D9LVCAI/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1497281484&sr=1-1&keywords=nextbit+robin
Most phones in the $100 are pretty bad compared to even older flagship devices. Get a phone with band 12 and VoLTE support for best possible service.
Some options:
Moto G4 from Amazon with prime discount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01EZC9WC0/
LeEco S3 on flash sale for $149: http://www.lemall.com/us/phone/leeco_le_s3/index.html
Amazing performance for the price and even supports WiFi calling. Limited to 32 GB internal storage though.
Most budget low end devices use a Micro SIM, and not a Nano SIM, so the first thing I recommend would be to pick up a Nano to MicroSIM Adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WDV0GGC/
As far as phones go, I like this Blu R1 HD for $59 (note you do have to be an amazon prime member or its $99):
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H2E0J5M/
If you're looking to step up, thj Moto G4 Play is a great phone, and will get more T-Mobile LTE Bands:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KBH547A/
Hope this helped!
First of all, do not buy a T-mobile phone or an ATT phone company phone.
Tand A go out of their way to limit the phones by hiding bands and other crap.
Save yourself lots of headaches and get an UnLocked phone with both ATT and Tmobile
Unlocked phones just optimize your options for the future. Swithch between various Tmo and Att Options.
At this point, I'd say the $150 Blue Life One X is the best bang for the money.
the $150 Blue Life One X easily looks and performs like a $300 + phone.
Looks good, 5.2 beautiful screen, very slim, Full HD Screen, etc.
the $150 Blue Life One X is not perfect, but an overall good buy.

have you tried T-Mobile in your area? know what the coverage is like etc?
http://explore.t-mobile.com/test-drive-free-trial test drive for free
If you have an unlocked phone you could also use a SIM card to use the speedtest app and root metrics for free
BestBuy and amazon have SIM cards for $4.99 bestbuy pick up in store, amazon with prime shipping.

Is she using a smart phone or a flip phone? If its a smart phone you could just transfer her number to google voice and use the hangouts app over wifi.
Theres also the tmobile line link device for $10 per month but at that point you would be better off with the obihai + google voice solution others mentioned.
http://amzn.com/B00BUV7C9A
Yeah, you should be getting more than that on most hardware especially on 5g bands.
You won't ever get what the line is capable of, overhead and all that jazz.
I'm on spectrum 1gig over coax. The up is severely limited, I get max like 50mb on a good day but my pixel 3 xl on 5g just cleared 370mbs down via fast.com.

I've been using this router https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0167HG1V6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_nwQjDb2M89SGX
for almost 2 years, best router I have ever had.
LeEco - Le S3 unlocked smartphone 32GB, Gold (U.S. Warranty) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1G0Z04/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_rXNjzbW6QDWZM
Great phone T-mobile band 12 and Wi-Fi calling with up to 300 Mbps $180 free shipping
Do you have any source for that?
I've been looking at it:
https://www.amazon.com/LG-K30-Unlocked-T-Mobile-Exclusive/dp/B07CSWV219/
One of the comments from "manufacturer" says:
> This is not the T-Mobile Version (X410TK), this is the Amazon Prime Exclusive Version (X410ULMG) which supports different band. The X410ULMG, Amazon Prime Exclusive, supports: WCDMA 850/1700/1900 , GSM – 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, CDMA 800/1900 Mhz, LTE 2,4,5,12,13,66
So no band 71 on the variant amazon sells?
You can get a Nexbit Robin on Amazon for around $150-$170. Awesome phone and works well on T-Mobile https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01D9LVCAI/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484116612&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=nexbit+robin+phone&dpPl=1&dpID=41RqxvXOsgL&ref=plSrch
Amazon has the Unlocked US Version A50 on pre-order for $349. It is released the 20th. If you pre-order you get a free Galaxy Fit with it. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Unlocked-Smartphone-SM-A505UZKNXAA-Compatible/dp/B07XHDZ527/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=galaxy%2Ba50&qid=1568835753&rnid=2941120011&s=mobile&sr=1-6&th=1
Prepaid sim is the only way to try it out. Looks like you can get the some airtime and the sim card for under $20. (you can probably re-use the sim if you like the service.)

Make sure you have a phone with Band 12 (700Mhz).
You can keep a nano sim registered on your line and then use an adapter (nano->micro) so it will fit in the other phone. This way you'd have one number but would have to move the sim card every time you want to switch phones.
The adaptors are like this.
Mint Mobile trial sim. $5 on Amazon. Trial includes 100MB of 4G LTE data, 100 text messages, and 100 minutes of talk—all of which is good for 7 days after activation. Activate it with a random number. Test coverage for a week. Then throw the sim away and decide if you want to move your mom to t-mobile (or Mint Mobile if you don't need postpaid luxuries).

If you have Amazon, you can get the Moto G4 with lockscreen ads for $149.99.
Or you can get the ZTE ZMax Pro for $179.99 through T-Mobile or $7.50/month for 24 months if you have good credit or paid your bill on time for 12 consecutive months to qualify for $0 down.
If you want brand new, look into a Honor 7x, Mate SE, Xiaomi Mi A1 or Moto G5+. Otherwise, check into Swappa. Out of the ones I listed, I'd probably get the Huawei Honor 7x.
T-Mobile doesn't care if you have a Verizon phone or not. As long as it's unlocked you're good to go. Also iPhone 6 Plus isn't band 12 compatible so depending on your area, you may not be able to take advantage of T-Mobiles entire network. iPhone 6s, 7, & SE are band 12 compatible.
Edit: You can activate a sim online and select your plan and port your number. Get the 3 in 1 sim from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zhvFybJDEDQER
It is a high end router, it is not the sacrificial altar of wireless orgasms but really good for the price. I actually just bit the bullet and bought mine from T-Mo and flashed Merlin on it.
For future reference, if you want to help anyone else out that still wants a landline, you can get one of these and plug in existing cordless phones (as long as they have broadband service):

You can use a free Google voice phone number with it and never have a phone bill, ever. Only downside - can't use for 911, unless you pay a couple bucks a month for another service alongside GV.
And that's why they didn't come with one pre-installed. Simple marketing. They had two screen accessories for sale when I picked up my OP7P, $49 for the glass and $29 for the film. Nope! I picked mine up from Amazon, and actually it's quite nice. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RSPQMN7/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_tAR4CbVJP5VWP
I bought this 3-1 prepaid sim off amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478108645&sr=8-2&keywords=3-1+tmobile
but am i understanding correctly that i still need to pay for service (pay as you go $3/month)? I only need 30 seconds to take the call and never again.
i'm on step six here for my adapter
this guy sounds like he did what i want to do only paid five for the card.
i'd ask over there but it takes a month to get a response in that inactive sub.
Amazon lists it as "Fully Compatible" with T Mobile, so I am guessing yes, because the other phones have "See details" instead. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EZC9WC0/ref=amb_link_476643122_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=FYFJ8ZPYZZ2JK5DNC2TH&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=2538729922&pf_rd_i=B01F9N5QXI
You're not missing out on much without T-Mobile Tuesdays... that being said, you can get a prepaid SIM from Amazon for like $8, and then you can go from there without having to throw down $20 that T-Mobile tries to charge.

i would agree, hopefully give him better audio.. but it does look awfully similar to this:

Just confirmed with netgear support that this MR1100-100NAS sold on amazon is compatable with T-Mobile
NETGEAR Nighthawk M1 Mobile Hotspot Router (MR1100) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G5KWZ3H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_yPJoDb94TFNM4
One alternative is this:
T-Mobile Prepaid Complete SIM Starter Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FAHYCb93PB82P
I've activated several of these on my postpaid account and never had a problem. 10 is better than 25.
Thanks. Are you sure, that this will allow me to get back on my $30 plan ?? I ask as this plan is difficult to get into once you are in another plan. The way I did it last time was get a $30 sim with plan included starter pack from walmart.
I see this and this on amazon, the second having the same plan as I want, but more expensive that it should be. If what you're saying is right, I should be able to just get the first one.
You can also get one from amazon for $9.99 instead of the $25 if that doesn’t end up working, probably can find some way cheaper on eBay, just make sure they are not expired.
Yes, but you might have to call 611 to do it as the option is removed from the website most of the time.
The same as BestBuy is also available on Amazon w/prime shipping: https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK/
I own the regular version of this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FB45SI4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Does this offer me any advantages other than price?

I bought this for my 14 day Europe trip. Put it in my phone yesterday to see if it works and am currently getting full speed AT&T(so it’s also useful inside a hotspot if you’re taking a trip to an area without T-Mobile coverage).
It’s sad that 3 UK offers better prices on AT&T than AT&T does.
If you're going to EU countries only, EU carriers have eliminated roaming fees across each other. I used this in France and Portugal: https://www.amazon.com/PrePaid-destinations-including-European-countries/dp/B01FI1JW72/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=3+uk+sim&qid=1555371315&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A38G8TI537EHUQ
Worked great. I got 3G only, but it was as fast as LTE.
PrePaid Europe (UK THREE) sim card 12GB data+3000 minutes+3000 texts for 30 days with FREE ROAMING / USE in 71 destinations including all European countries https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FI1JW72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sCS6Cb99FFZ25
Not an eSIM, but this is my go to for Europe.
Like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_WvrmxbD0TSXK9
Are your Sprint phones paid off and/or are your contracts up with them?
If you don't qualify for EIP, your only option is to get a budget Android phone like the moto g4 to reduce your upfront costs.
Isn't my phone number stored on the sim card? So I would want to use the same sim card right?
Would this be useful? https://www.amazon.com/Aerb-Micro-Adapter-Sander-Needle/dp/B00WDV0GGC/ref=sr_1_3?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1484006806&sr=8-3&keywords=sim+adapter&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011

Yes - I can’t find a way to share a Prime Now link but here: https://i.imgur.com/Ra6yMuI.jpg
Here’s the same on Amazon itself but obviously no two hour delivery: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ShEjDbCKQS12P
Moto G4, $130 for Amazon prime members with lockscreen ads. +$20 to upgrade from 16GB to 32GB, +$50 to get rid of ads,
Check out stuff like this. Do you need YOUR phone number to work while you are there? If so this is not an option.
It's based on the Asus 1900ac router and the firmware does most of the heavy lifting.
I think $25 deposit. It's practically a rebranded ASUS https://www.amazon.com/RT-AC68U-Wireless-AC1900-Dual-Band-Gigabit-Router/dp/B00FB45SI4
https://smile.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ has the nano sim
You could, but why not just spend the 4.99 on a new SIM.

It's $150, but it's one hell of a budget phone. If you search for reviews, it's being very well received.
At $200, you can't beat the Honor X from Huawei.
