It may be that long for what a beginner would start with, which would be kittens at least at weaning age (around 4-5 weeks old) who are coordinated enough to really start playing and socializing. With or without their mom (sometimes they'll come in with a rescued mom who can be a stray or a feral, and sometimes they'll be found as orphans), past 4 weeks it's easy enough to teach them how to cat and to be well-adjusted furry members of their future forever families. Spay/neuter surgery has to wait until they're at minimum 8 weeks of age and 1 kg in weight (although some rescues and vets may prefer to wait a bit longer).

You'll probably have them a bit longer past their spay/neuter surgeries if it's the rescue organisation's (and your) preference that you be more involved in screening potential adopters and matching your furry little graduates with homes which would best suit their "purrsonalities" and reduce the risk that they'll just be returned to a shelter or otherwise abandoned in the future.

With kittens under weaning age, with or without a mom to do half of the work, you need to be especially prepared for complications which require hand-rearing, possibly tube-feeding, and giving meds and fluids (this is more advanced stuff which needs to be learned from a veterinary professional or an experienced rescuer). Sadly, it's normal in litters that they don't all always make it (outdoors, they average only 1 out of 4 reaching adulthood. Indoors, you can improve their odds greatly, which makes the occasional sad loss more bearable). Sometimes there'll be one born with congenital abnormalities which aren't always obvious by looking at them, sometimes they fail to thrive without anything appearing to be physically wrong with them. So I don't recommend getting any that are that young, to start.

My favourite rescue in the area is Tinykittens in Fort Langley, BC, who specialize in TNR of feral colonies and are internet-famous for their 24/7 kitten cams, Cassidy the Miracle Kitten, Grandpa Mason, and other viral rescue animal videos. They technically accept volunteer applications, but they're small and they take on some really tough cases, so they recommend contacting Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS), whom they work with closely. There's also the big one in the Vancouver area (whom Tinykittens has also worked with on larger rescue operations), the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA). Tinykittens is still a great source of information on ferals and tough cases with terrible odds, pregnant moms (feral or stray) and the realities of kitten birth (watching a cat give birth live is both gross and exciting. Guessing the number of kittens and their coat colours is kind of fun). I also love Kitten Lady Hannah Shaw as the expert on orphan neonates. She's not local, but I recommend her fun, informative, and instructional videos and other materials. She also has a book coming out in a week called "Tiny But Mighty" which is a comprehensive manual for doing what she does, really.

Even if you're not in the Greater Vancouver Area, you could probably contact these bigger rescue organisations to find out who is reputable wherever you are in BC, because they may have worked with some rescues from outside of the territory they usually cover. Like during past wildfire seasons, I know that animals needed evacuation from fire zones, whether they got separated from family and needed somewhere safe to stay until they could be reunited, or they were strays or ferals which the local shelters and other rescuers were trying to evacuate to safety. That's another fostering option to consider for this summer. July has been pretty mild for heat and wildfires, so I am seriously side-eyeing August, expecting it to be brutal. >_>

Anyway, sorry... I rambled. I'm passionate about animal rescue, and I'm also a little bit medicated and therefore talkative😅. I hope the info helps.

I've had eczema for 24 years, and here are some products I swear by:

100% squalane oil - this is more expensive per ounce than hemp oil, but my god is it effective for flare-ups. Squalane is the hydrogenized form of squalene, an oil naturally found in your skin.

Cerave Moisturizing Cream - this is the holy grail for eczema lotion. It can sting when you put it on, if the flare-up is bad. It works really well when mixed with a few drops of squalane. Cerave's claim to fame is the ceramides. Skin with eczema is frequently lacking in these crucial lipids.

Colloidal Oatmeal Lotion - there are a few brands of these that are mostly the same, but this is the one I like. This is best for those really, really nasty flare-ups, especially the kind where you scratch yourself raw/bloody, because it's so gentle and thick.

Similarly, colloidal oatmeal for baths. If you've got a full-body flare-up going on, or a flare-up somewhere that lotion can't reach (like on your scalp), this can be incredibly soothing.

Dove Beauty Bar For Sensitive Skin - accept no substitutes. This is the only bar soap my skin can handle, and it is the only soap that every dermatologist I've ever seen has recommended for my eczema. That's because it's not technically soap, it's actually a gentle detergent mixed with moisturizer.

Sulfate-free shampoo - SLS, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, is a big trigger for me, and a common one. (I also have to use SLS-free toothpaste.) If you're prone to scalp flare-ups, this might be a good first line of defense. For a cheaper option, Johnson's Baby Shampoo is also sulfate-free.

If I sound like a brochure, I'm sorry. I've spent years dealing with this, and I'm kind of a skincare hobbyist (who also dabbles in hair care), so I've tried a lot of stuff.

Of course I support the freedom and rights of women. What kind of question is that? Isn't that a standard facet of Western culture in general? There's a great book called What Went Wrong about how Islam used to be the world leaders in science and culture, and how today they are backward and almost primitive by our standards. One of the main conclusions of the book is the middle East and Islamic areas have ignored women and essentially kept them from learning and contributing to society. The fact that Western culture has embraced women's contributions, from at least Marie Curie going forward, is part of the reason why we are where we are today.

As a red blooded, passionate male I am very much in favor of birth control. Not sure what you mean by "access for women and young girls who otherwise couldn't get it." Are you asking do I think all women should get the pill for free? Are you asking do I think minors should get the pill without parental consent? Those are tough questions. Here's one back, do you want to pay for it? I pay a hell of a lot in taxes already.

I used the free health clinic when I was in high school to get STD tested and got a few free condoms too. I'm good with those public social establishments the same as I'm good with public libraries, public schools and public interstates and roadways. I'm also highly in favor of free hospitals for US military veterans. These are current social programs I, as a conservative, am in favor of. Your question makes me wonder what you must think of conservatives. Do you really believe we are all ignorant, racist, women hating but Christ loving Nazis that the media tells you to believe?

How do YOU show your support to your fellow women? I just treat them as people and friends and enjoy their company.

It’s an excellent workout and if you’re really interested I highly recommend getting an actual pole and not a Spencer’s cheapie. I bought one for $300+ off a site many years ago, but found a good one on Amazon that I can safely put my entire weight on and can be taken down when company comes over. Also recommend getting gloves that help with grip while you’re first starting out.

If you’ve never done it before it’s really fun but don’t get discouraged and keep at it! It takes a while to build up very specific muscles and get the moves down. There are a lot of good videos on YouTube or some on Amazon as well.

Not really sure if this will come off as condescending but here are some books for general parenting or parenting kids with behavioral issues. For any folks out there looking for resources.

The Connected Child
https://www.amazon.com/Connected-Child-healing-adoptive-family/dp/0071475001
Mainly focuses on attachment, or lack there of, for adoptive parents but some of the info is good for parents with children who have behavioral issues caused by attachment issues. Does have some religious aspects but also creates space for non-religious folks as well.

The Whole Brian Child
https://www.amazon.com/Whole-Brain-Child-Revolutionary-Strategies-Developing/dp/0553386697 great general parenting book.

No Drama Discipline
https://www.amazon.com/No-Drama-Discipline-Whole-Brain-Nurture-Developing/dp/034554806X help me understand what’s happening in my kids brain in misbehaving and tactics for working through various issues.

These really helped me feel empowered and informed as a parent. Every time we do well with the stuff we feel like the best parents in the world. Hope this helps anyone out there that might need it.

Edit: links and formatting. I suck at it and I’m on mobile so...

yodo Upgraded Kids Insulated Toddler Backpack with Safety Harness Leash and Name Label - Playful Preschool Kids Lunch Bag, Dinosaur https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WO92FE4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3tmvDbP2GWF73

I just got this one off Amazon. I will say its slightly too big. It doesnt tighten enough around him but it doesnt slip off either. Honestly, I was prepared to get disapproving stares but a lot of people smiled and commented on how adorable he was with it. It's been a life saver because he doesnt want to be in the stroller anymore. And hes been much more well behaved while out!

Have your wife try these yoga pants. The brand is called 90 Degree by Reflex. I have several pairs in different styles and they are AMAZING quality. The MSRP tags that come on them are all in the $80-100 range, yet they are a fraction of that on Amazon. They also have a round reflective logo on the back top of the band, so unless someone gets close and looks at the logo, they look like lululemon leggings.

Greenco Bidet Fresh Water Spray Non-Electric Mechanical Bidet Toilet Seat Attachment

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A17T3N6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_HXUWAb6HKZPZV

It attaches to your toilet. You need a flexible hose, though, not a straight one. It will make your seat uneven if you don't buy spacers to lift the front of the seat up, but honestly I don't have the spacers and it doesn't bother me at all to have a slightly slanted seat.

I like to believe white is a color. Otherwise, this box of crayons is a lie.

All white, like God intended.

I have the LUXE Neo 180 but I've heard positive reviews about the Astor from fellow redditors. And the 120 is $15 cheaper if you don't need the lady setting.

$37 for the smart water on amazon.
$19.99 for the evian.

The guy is actually being a hydrohomie.

u/OnlythisiPad · 189 pointsr/trashy

Sheesh, all you whiny babies. How about you check the Amazon price before you have self induced heart attacks about capitalism?

Spoiler for those too lazy: $37 and that’s JUST for the smart water.

u/maevealleine · 3 pointsr/trashy

Bidet. Especially a fully separate plumbed bidet. Please do your plumbing, your waste water plant and the environment (especially our noses) a favor and get one. Even if it has to be the kind you attach to an existing toilet. We have one of these installed in every toilet in our house. There should be a law that requires them in all public bathrooms. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A0RMQ1E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
