Hey, I normally just lurk reddit and didn't have an account ready, but when I see someone who wants to get into comics, I think it would be really cool if they did, so I wanted to post this. First of all, I believe this is from Ultimate X-men, if you like this, but I haven't read it. I've heard that the Ultimate publishing line is a little hit or miss outside of Ultimate Spider-man, which is great. You can find or ask for recommendations for any character on r/comicbooks.
The easiest advice is that if you're interested in a character, starting with any #1 issue is the easiest way. All the big heroes have history that goes back to at least 60's, and a lot of B-listers have their start in the 70's, and you can't get past that. Older comics are not for everyone, but if a #1, or the doesn't give you the context you need to enjoy the story, the writer didn't do their job. There are a lot of reasons staring into comics is intimidating, but knowing basic elements about the comic should serve you fine.
Marvel Unlimited is a fantastic subscription service, and fairly cheap compared to buying comics, for their stuff. Like 70$ a year, something like that, and the library is MASSIVE now, easily the best way to read Marvel comics. You can buy digitally from Comixology and there are... other places to find comics, because they can be very expensive per issue if you want to read a lot. Used book stores sometimes have cheap trades as well.
Now, here's a thing that is pretty confusing and I wish I knew right away. Publishers and fans use the term 'Volume' differently. If you go into a store, you may find a trade paper-back, say All-New Wolverine Vol. 1, or Vol. 2. These are probably 6 issues, or about a single story arc, its a book that you can buy, like this: https://www.amazon.ca/All-New-Wolverine-Vol-Four-Sisters/dp/0785196528/ref=sr_1_1/141-1610253-5371834?ie=UTF8&qid=1541371195&sr=8-1&keywords=all+new+wolverine+vol+1
However, If you want a rundown of the main series/side series, one-offs, spin offs, whatever for a certain character, look here:http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Wolverine_Comic_Books
See how All-New Wolverine is actually 35 issues and one of the newer series? That whole thing would be called All-New Wolverine Vol.1, because its the first series with that title. But Wolverine Vol. 1 was a 1982 miniseries. Then they made another series just title Wolverine, which ran 212 issues, starting in 1988. This is "volume 2", because otherwise it has the same title. Vol 3 ran from 2003-2009, and so on. Even more confusing is that Volume 2 ended on issue 189, but can back to it's original numbering after Volume 4 because they wanted that 300 milestone instead of restarting again. It's something you may need to pay attention to if you're reading a long run from the 2000's, but they stopped after that, and exploring these disambiguation pages really help. Marvel Database is super organized, DC Database could be better but you can find lists of comic series there too.
Annuals have their own numbering and interject themselves between issues of the series it runs alongside. It can be annoying to figure out where they take place, but honestly if you even read them, don't worry. Very few end up being important and are usually just side stories. If another issue makes a callback to an annual, or an issue of another series you aren't reading, hopefully it gives context enough, but you can go ahead and read it then. Crossovers work this way too, and sometimes bounce between two or three series, but usually if you can't track everything down, you can still get the gist of the story, and particularly the parts relevant to your character of choice, by just continuing to read the series you're reading. Basically there's a lot to track down, but only if you want to. You can get by by reading a series that interests you beginning to end. Going outside the big two companies makes this much easier though, and others publish more independant series.
Oh, and big event crossovers are common for Marvel and DC. If you see a big banned across the top of a comic that appears in the middle of a series, like "Civil War" or "Secret Invasion", or "Infinity", check if there's a self-contained mini-series with that name. That'll be the main part of the story, and then say, the issues of Amazing Spider--man with the "Civil War" banner will be about what he was dealing with during all of that. You don't have to read all the tie-ins, I'd just recommend reading the main storyline and the tie-ins from the characters you're already reading.
The best way is to just pick something up. You'll get the hang of it with online resources to help.
I read a book about love languages. It was from a Christian perspective but I think anyone could get value from it. Basically the take away was that we all show and feel love in different ways. One of the best things you can do is figure out how your partner feels loved (their love language). It may be verbal, physical touch, actions etc. You then make a conscious effort to make sure that your partner knows you love them by using their love language and not just your own.
Edit: wow a lot of people apparently saw this. Here is the book on amazon if anyone was interested:
https://www.amazon.com/Love-Languages-Secret-that-Lasts-ebook/dp/B00OICLVBI/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=5+love+languages+by+gary+chapman&qid=1563811365
It's apparently less than $5 as an ebook. No I'm not the author. Good read even if you ignore the religious perspective it is great to work through with your significant other.
I bought this book years ago, when I started to get more into landscapes and colour theory. It's a good book, with solid advice.

Beyond that, observation and experimentation are invaluable. Don't be afraid to try different colors on things, see how they mesh and work. Don't be afraid to repaint. Knowing what works becomes natural over time, I swear. You'll instinctively know what colors to choose to enable a specific mood and how to easily mix them.
It's also not just about colour. It's about the hue, the saturation and the value. Value = dark and light. Hue = the shade. Saturation = how 'strong' or muted that color is. How close to neutral grey it is. Like, the image on the left doesn't seem to have a strong contrast in the foreground, but it does have red (okay, it's orange but orange is only red+yellow) and green shades which are complimentary colors: so it pops. The red is warm, it's inviting. The image on the right ditches a lot of the saturation in favor of strong color values, colors are muted (except for the green) and cool , there's no warmth in this image and that fence is a sharp, dark (ominous) contrast to the misty grey/neutral-ish background. Saturation and value play as much as part as just color when it comes to mood.
But this can all be learned and really easily! Youtube is also great for this kind of stuff.
That's actually what kept me from backing it in the first place. I love Mega Man with all my heart; I have a physical copy of all the Mega Man, MMX, MMZ, MMZX, and even MML games. I have a Mega Man keychain on my keys. Hell, this adorable mother fucker is on my desk as we speak. When I heard that Inafune was making a new "Mega Man" game on his own because Capcom has decided to neglect my favorite Blue Bomber, I was so fucking excited.
But then some early gameplay came out, and instead of the wonderful, creative, and detailed level design and background that I was expecting from a Mega Man successor, it looked like a 2010 mobile game or a late-stage PS1 game. Red flag. I thought, "eh, it's already funded, I'll wait a bit and see if it really comes together like I hope it will."
And here we are. But the sting of the MNo9 failure is too strong to be healed by my foresight.
Hey if you truly feel this way and want to improve, I’ve got a recommendation for you:
https://www.amazon.com/Mind-Numbers-Science-Flunked-Algebra-ebook/dp/B00G3L19ZU
Give it an earnest try and it’ll at the very least change how you view math. Good luck friend :)
[https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sufficiently-Advanced-Magic-Arcane-Ascension-ebook/dp/B06XBFD7CB/ref=mp_s_a_1_1](Sufficiently Advanced Magic). It's not exactly like the post, but I'm enjoying reading it. Description from Amazon:
>Five years ago, Corin Cadence’s brother entered the Serpent Spire — a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire’s trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire’s goddess.
Here's the orgiginal thread.
EDIT: I can't seem to get the first link to format properly, but I'll leave it because it still works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I highly recommend checking out the actual book if you've ever had any interest in all in learning how the hell this movie was made. It's highly entertaining for a lot of reasons, but it also goes into some of the reasons and inspirations that drove Wiseau into filmmaking. The audiobook is also really good; it's read by Sestero himself, and his impression of Wiseau's accent is dead-on.
I've read a few romance novels that involve both vampires and werewolves, and all were white men and women. In fact the werewolf was a very wealthy tech security guy. Made his own business and everything. The author is Cynthia Eden and I highly recommend her. This is the book that got me started
Edit: The werewolf in that story is not the tech guy. Thats this series
That's literally the point. Rats are clearly more highly-evolved than us, as we have had to turn to natural phenomena (birds, tea leaves, bones, etc.) to get that same benefit.
> If a hunter shows any bias to return to previous spots, where he or others have seen caribou, then the caribou can benefit (survive better) by avoiding those locations (where they have previously seen humans). Thus, the best hunting strategy requires randomizing...Traditionally, Naskapi hunters decided where to go to hunt using divination and believed that the shoulder bones of caribou could point the way to success. The cracking patterns were (probably) essentially random...Thus, these divination rituals may have provided a crude randomizing device that helped hunters avoid their own decision-making biases.

>In Indonesia, the Kantus of Kalimantan use bird augury to select locations for their agricultural plots. Geographer Michael Dove argues that two factors will cause farmers to make plot placements that are too risky. First, Kantu ecological models contain the Gambler’s Fallacy, and lead them to expect floods to be less likely to occur in a specific location after a big flood in that location (which is not true). Second…Kantus pay attention to others’ success and copy the choices of successful households, meaning that if one of their neighbors has a good yield in an area one year, many other people will want to plant there in the next year. To reduce the risks posed by these cognitive and decision-making biases, Kantu rely on a system of bird augury that effectively randomizes their choices for locating garden plots, which helps them avoid catastrophic crop failures.
and
>I’m reminded of the Romans using augury to decide when and where to attack. This always struck me as crazy; generals are going to risk the lives of thousands of soldiers because they saw a weird bird earlier that morning? But war is a classic example of when a random strategy can be useful. If you’re deciding whether to attack the enemy’s right vs. left flank, it’s important that the enemy can’t predict your decision and send his best defenders there. If you’re generally predictable – and Scott Aaronson says you are – then outsourcing your decision to weird birds might be the best way to go.
All from here, reviewing this book
I've never heard that referred to as a d100, it's usually called half of a percentile pair. An actual d100 looks like this, though usually people just use a percentile pair.
Both of those solutions are perfectly happy to give you 82.
I actually dislike libraries because even as someone who grew up with an education on the Dewey Decimal System, lets face it, Amazon does it better.
Challenge: I just got done reading Verbal Judo, and I'd like some more books like it. Lets use the computer to find a new book.
Library: Here are 47 books on judo, 53 books on martial arts, 22 books on public speaking, and 13 books about ninjas. 23 of those books are in the Young Adult section, 15 of them are fiction, 22 of them are not at this library and 11 of them are audiobooks. Also, here's some Jackie Chan movies. All of them are checked out and you can reserve one that will be back in a month, but you have to drive to a different town to pick it up.
Amazon: Here's The Like Switch. It was written by an ex-FBI agent and a psychologist. It has a 4.5 star rating based on 67 reviews. I can have a paperbook delivered to your door tomorrow.
Google: Here's that book for free in a downloadable .pdf.
Take a harmless hobby done for passion and joy, add guilt, shaming, and profit motive. Subtract joy and passion. == "Parenting" in capitalist hell.

There's a book, ['Abby Carnelia's One and Only Magical Power'] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Abby-Carnelias-Only-Magical-Power/dp/1250045525), based on a pretty similar premise - though it's less 'trivially lucky' abilities and more 'abilities that are so bizarrely specific that they're basically useless'. The main character can make eggs spin when she tugs her earlobes, for example. I remember really liking it as a kid.
if you're trying to reinforce your front door, this is a good idea for the catch plate. For the hinges, a better item is this: https://www.amazon.com/Door-Hinge-Security-Screws-3-Pack/dp/B01DG0TZ1A It's a replacement screw you install in the hinges. when the hinges shut, it acts like a rod between the door and the door jam. if the door is locked and the hinge pins are on the side being attacked, popping the pins wont allow the door to be opened. If the attacker is trying to beat the door down, it's additional support. This should be used in conjunction with a better deadbolt, or multiple deadbolts. While this won't really stop someone truly determined to get in, who would look at windows, etc, it'll help beef up an entrance way.
I dunno what it was called but a while back I read a story where a dude was saved from a tollbooth/robot-murder checkpoint on the road because the AI manning it was the bank teller AI that he had always said "Thank You" to.
EDIT: Found it and a buncha others! I'm not gonna bother to find a download link but the amazon page is here: https://www.amazon.com/Robot-Uprisings-Daniel-H-Wilson/dp/0345803639 (Also fair warning the first story is kinda lame)
amazon sells 75in by 75in kotatsu at $128, but if you have the money to blow, they recommend these $180 75in by 75in kotatsu because it has more positive reviews
Found a 48 piece set for $12.99. For the last wall in the screenshot, you'd need about 8 of them, so $103.92 before tax or shipping. If you have Prime (for free shipping) and live in MN like I do (or somewhere with a similar tax rate), it'd come to about $111.32.
I just ordered one on amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073VLS2MM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A1PXIHK7L2SLO1&psc=1

They have a bunch of fruit and veggy ones, but it's the neatest one so far.
I was going to say it looks like they removed your product, but I'm assuming you didn't copy the relevant parts of the URL. There's usually an alphanumeric code that you need after a /dp/, something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Handbook-Michele-Bender/dp/076115678X
Or even just:

My wife is obsessed with this book: https://www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Handbook-Michele-Bender/dp/076115678X, I tried to get her to look at /r/curlyhair before but she's not a reddit person (Edit: looks this book is listed as the ultimate guide on the /r/curlyhair wiki)
