(Part 2) Best products from r/uberdrivers

Not an Über driver, but a frequent uber passenger.

I've got WeatherTech's in three of my cars (Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Focus, Toyota Camry), and Husky WeatherBeaters in two (Ford Fusion & 2nd Ford Focus).

I'd seriously consider the weatherbeaters. Here in Canada, we need them to hold liquid (melted salty snow) in the winter, and the WeatherBeaters are usually a better fit with more coverage.

The Weather Beaters are cheaper than the Weather Techs, but might be a hair less professional looking. Personally though, I don't think I will ever buy WeatherTech again, they're fantastic, but the little bit of edge in looks doesn't justify the extra costs to me.

I'd also strongly consider the trunk liners from WeatherTech if you are ever picking up passengers with groceries, just in case a jug of milk breaks you won't have to deal with milk in carpet.

Oh, and finally, from my medical training, keep a box of MidKnight Nitrile Gloves in your car along with some paper shop towels. The MidKnight gloves are the best of the best, and are latex free in case your passengers happen to have latex allergies. Also helps if you need to clean up nosebleeds. Blood borne pathogens are bad news!!

Completed my first week with 28 rides and I'm surprised how nice everyone has been so far! I creeped on this sub for a few weeks now for tips/tricks and it has really helped. PAX also really like the interior lights of my car. Some materials I want to share:


Waterless Car Wash - I work in the city and didn't know there was such a thing. I can wash my car in my parking spot or on the street with a little bucket of water.


LED Interior Lights - This is a little flashy, but it was only $10 and I hard wired it into my interior dash so there are 0 wires and I'm not using up my outlet for power. Plus PAX can see if they dropped anything and we're not driving completely in the dark. I can control the brightness and usually have it very dim for some atmospheric lighting


Vaccum - This thing works great and has a very long cord to reach through my entire Jeep. It's not for heavy duty jobs, but vacuuming once a week should do the trick


Phone Holder - The Jeep has circular air ducts so this is a great alternative - if you do not use your CD player. This does cover your CD port and has worked great so far. Since it's in my center dash, PAX can see where I'm going.


Battery Powered Uber Sign - Again, flashy but it draws attention and since it's battery powered I do not have to worry about cords running through my car or dash. I found mine on Ebay.


Water - I have a small compartment to keep ice-packs and small water bottles. With every PAX I pickup I offer a bottle of water. 9/10 say no thanks but everyone is very thankful for the offer.

Ah yes, I see what you mean. I have this non-magnetic one in my car, with the screw tightening mechanism, but I have tightened it down pretty hard and not had any problems. It's been going strong for over 5 months and I love it. Build quality and design probably have a lot to do with it, or maybe you just got unlucky. The spring design on the one you have is a great idea that eliminates the issue.

I've posted on here many times about how great enzymatic cleaners are. That's what you need to use or you risk the vomit smell coming back.

I've used Enzym D and it's amazing stuff. Vomit is an organic substance so you need something to break it down to completely rid the smell, especially in something like seats.

I used it in a basement where there were 5 cats, a couple of which were peeing and pooping wherever they pleased on the concrete slab. It was disgusting. I used the Enzym D full strength and brought in an outside nose and they didn't smell a damn thing.

I also used it the one and only time I had a vomiter while driving.

Use the enzymatic cleaner on the floor mat, and a shop vac or something similar to suck out the cleaner. I have this bad boy I bought for my couches, but works equally as well on car seats and carpets.

As for the speaker grilles - like /u/zombiezambonidriver said see if you can find a video on how to remove the paneling for your speaker. Shouldn't be too hard. --edit: apparently it might be lol

Luckily I haven't had to deal with uber puke yet; however, this is my method for cleaning my carpet if my dog gets sick:

• Step 1: clean up any chunks/excess liquid with rubber gloves+paper towel
  
• Step 2: Spray distilled white vinegar on fabric
  
• Step 3: Let sit for ~5 minutes

• Step 5: Roll down windows for a couple hours and hang an air freshener once windows are back up.
  
  I got my bissell spot cleaner on sale for $100. I use it for spot cleaning my car about once a month and it does wonders. Everyone always compliments me how great my car looks. Plus you can use it for your house as well. Its honestly fucking amazing. It has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years for apt security deposits.
  
  As others have mentioned, baking soda can potentially turn into a gooey mess if mixed with certain liquids. I would avoid it for cleaning cars.

best car mount available bc of its length.. you can mount the phone right next to the steering wheel so you dont have to reach to accept a ride and possibly jerk the steering wheel.. plus it comes with a vent mount too!!

I personally don't like the vent mounts, but love the magnetic mount concept. I also don't use optical media, so seemed like the perfect use for my CD slot.

I remember it being cheaper, and the one downside is it doesn't seem to work in all CD slots equally - works great in my car, not at all in my truck. I would avoid this thing tho, it broke within a week.

I found the vent mounts were the same, did not work equally in all vehicles (different vent designs work better than others for a mount).

I really can't recommend one over the other because this is the only one I've used. But what I really like about it is that it has one camera for the cabin (ie the PAX), one camera for driving (ie the idiots on the road), and a third that can be installed for a backup camera. I love having traffic AND passengers recorded all at the same time and my car didn't have a backup camera when it was manufactured so the additional backup camera with this system is pretty sweet as well.

   Your real challenge would be to make these hundreds of dollars worth of items worth the markup you'll need to charge to save new drivers from spending 20 minutes on Amazon and getting it cheaper.

After 220+ rides I've gone through about half of the advil, half of the mints(which I end up eating most of) and one 40 bottle case of water... which comes out to about $13 of the $2016.11 I have made in the last month, which is 0.65% of my profits. I honestly think just having the ability to offer those small things increases my chance of a higher rating by much more than 0.65%... So I can make the argument that it's extremely cost effective. Many riders comment that this is uncommon for Uber drivers and are generally pleased that I offer this(most don't take anything).

Most people that take anything are more often from the night/bar crowd, where I make the bulk of my earnings.

I went with this one. It's only 40% of the cost of the Vantrue, but probably 90% of the quality. Which makes it a way better value, in my opinion. I wrote this review on Amazon.

The mount you get with the Uber phone (suction cup mount, only fitted for 4 and 4s) is pretty crap imo.

iPhone user. The fact that the app doesn't rotate bothers me, as I use Uber's nav so that I don't need to jump in and out of the app.

I bought this holder off of Amazon and I love it so far. It's adjustable enough that my phone is very low profile and doesn't block my view. Plus, it's tax deductible as far as I can tell.

Cd slot magnetic I put my magnets inside my otterbox on the back of the phone instead of sticking them and they work just fine I have an iPhone 6 Plus it even held up my iPad mini 3 just fine also in a otterbox defender would be even stronger grip without the otterbox but I've never had it slide off the magnet holder once

You don't have to think about it you just put the phone on the magnet and it holds it id never go back to any other phone mount

Magnet seems to have zero effect I've been using the mount for 2 years

I've had nothing less than a perfect experience with this one I bought a year ago. Holds the phone tight, and isn't one of those super bulky mounts with all kinds of ratcheting gears and such. Plus, the bottom is completely open for charging/aux.
