Features:
I have Gigabit through EPB Fiber and I use an Asus RT-AC66U. It looks like there is a newer RC-AC87U.
On my router, I replaced the firmware with Merlin's firmware which adds some extra functionality.
It's nice having a built-in VPN and all the other features of Asus's firmware, but I doin't use many of them since I have a computer that acts as a server for that.
Hardware: Athlon II X4 640 with 16 GBs of Ram. 9 Drives anywhere from 1.5 to 4 TBs with total of 24.5GBs with latest drives running off an IBM M1015 with updated firmware
OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
Software on Server: NZBGet - Prefer over Sab because it allows ordering of backup servers
NZBDrone - Run much smoother and has better failed download handling for TV and Anime vs SickBeard
CouchPotato - Works for the most part
NZBFamilyHub - Allows friends/family to request movies/tv/anime without having to bug me to download it and without giving them access to NZBDrone and CP
Cailbre - Ebook server
DriveBender - Allows pooling of all my random HDs into 1 logical drive. Also allows for duplication of certain folders, so if 1 HD dies, that data is still on another.
XBMC(Kodi) - Running on server with Auto Update Library plugin for quick local access to files to populate MySQL XBMC DB
Plex Media Server - Access for family/friends using the Plex XBMC Metadata plugin so I dont have to download metadata twice.
Playback: Living Room - HTPC running Windows 8.1 (link to PCPartPicker here) with XBMC and a bunch of addons and skins connected to MySql DB. Using an IR reciver and Logitech Harmony Touch for control. Also beefy enough vid card to allow it to be a Steam box with 4 Xbox 360 controllers connected with this.
Main Bedroom - Ouya connected wireless with XBMC installed connected to MySQL DB.
Guest Room - Amazon Fire TV connected wireless, rooted to boot into XBMC connected to MySQL DB. If you are looking for a cheap XBMC client, I have had no hiccups or issues with the AFTV.
Well you could get one of these. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UHJJQAY/
> Dial into your unix shell account
Look at Mr Lucky with a Unix shell account. I had to dial in to a local University, telnet to the Indiana State Library. The library had a broken menu that you could shell out of to a limited system prompt that still allowed me to get to Case Western's Freenet.
Those were definitely the days. All the newsgroups I remember were listed in the back of my copy of the Internet Yellow Pages

... And when you realize it's too slow, and then you go buy one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-128GB-Supersonic-Flash-PEF128GSR2USB/dp/B00SNLH5RE , and then you finally learn the lesson that "you absolutely do get what you pay for".

Maybe that's only running Docker DSM. The spec sheet is not very clear.
I've got a similar setup. Win10, Drivepool, and Snapraid. Snapraid is using two of my 8tb drives for parity though, which kinda sucks.

Got a smaller video card for it so I can use those two drive bays. It actually took me awhile to find a case with a ton of 3.5inch bays, hard to find nowadays with everyone going to SSD without going the server case route.
I'll probably pick up one of these Icy Docks if I need more drives.
Get a Roku or Fire TV & use the plex app
Or you can get the fire tv and install XBMC on it and use that
I have a post on the SABNzbd sub right now with that exact issue. I've tried soooo many things, and nothing really fixed it so far.
Here is my situation, see if it looks like yours.

The issue:

When I open SAB and it is not paused, the internet gets super slow. After a while, I get the yellow alert icon on my internet logo on the taskbar, and internet no longer works. SAB is also not downloading at this point. Restarting the modem doesn't help, neither does restarting the router or pausing SAB or waiting. At this point, I need to restart the PC.

What my setup is like:

I've got a modem on bridge mode, a D-LINK DIR-842 router connected to it, my PC connected to the router by cable. Downloading used to work fine when connected directly to the modem, when it was working as the router as well. This issue started with the new router mostly.
SAB downloads files to my HD, Radarr+Sonarr move them to the Google Drive File Stream folder, because I have a infinite google drive.

Why not use it like before?

I can't get wifi to my room without the router, and having everything on the same network lets me cast my PC to the NVidia Shield for games and Plex. That is why the modem is now on bridge mode, and the entire network is on the router.

What I've tried:

Limiting connections: Used to have it at 42 connections and it worked. I've now tried it down to 4 connections and still doesn't work.
Limiting speed: Used it down to 40% maximum speed. It used to work at 80% always, now it doesn't even at 40%.
Turning off QoS: Actually no idea how to turn it completely off on the router, but I took my PC of the list. I can try to take eveything out of the list, I guess. It was on and the problem existed, it is off and the problem persists.

Weird random things:

My old modem still pushes out a wifi signal, and I can still connect to it. It doesn't appear to be the same network as my PC though, so I can't, for example, be connected to the wifi from the modem and cast a YouTube video to the Shield, that is connected to the router.
I used to have the same problem when torrenting on this computer on an older house, with different router/modem/ISP. Started to think maybe it has something to do with my computer?
