But, but the song is getting amazing reviews on Amazon:

  • "Hard to find good quality music like this. A steal at any price. My only complaint is that the lyrics were a bit hard to follow at times."

  • "It has been 223 years since one of the finest musicians ever to grace society died. Whilst Mozart's music may not be a series of timeless masterpieces for all, "Summertime Is Great" is set to define countless generations of musical precedence through sheer talent, complex harmony, and intricate structure. The young girl's mixture of sultry tones and fuller figure are complimented by her brothers youthful complexion, quiet and tuneful voice, and father's guitar and motorcycle prowess."

  • "I was rendered speechless by "Summertime is Great". I just sat there, eyes bulging, mouth agape, a trickle of drool pooling on the desktop in front of me. Although I knew I was witnessing a truly rare and special event in human history, I was paralysed."

  • "Michael Jackson move over!"

I am a soldier who has to work to keep slim. As a result, I've educated myself some about nutrition, and there are a few things that I've found work.

First off, at 600+ lbs, you should consider seeing a doctor to see whether a hormonal imbalance of some sort is driving your weight gain. A thyroid disorder is entirely capable of driving that sort of gain. You should also consider seeing a physician that specializes in this sort of weight issue, because weight loss at those weights can come with special medical requirements.

You also need to psychologically steel yourself--not for the hunger, or for the work, but rather for how long becoming slim is actually going to take. I am currently helping one of my soldiers lose weight, and it's a constant battle to make this person understand the weight will not all come off in one month. You said you lost weight, but then would gain it all back. As one who has been there, I can tell you it's a result of losing sight of your milestones and goals, and falling back on the habits that got you where you are in the first place.

You also need to arm yourself with knowledge: LEARN HOW YOUR BODY WORKS! If I could recommend a single book that would really get you on the way, it'd be You On A Diet by Doctors Roizen and Oz. A close second would be Why We Get Fat and What We Can Do About It by Gary Taubes. These two books will give you great insight into how your body works, down to details like what foods will sate your hunger pangs and which will cause your body to accumulate fat. One of the most insightful things I learned from these books is that it is possible for your body to be starving, even as you get fat. Please read these two books. Hell, I'll even purchase them and send them to you if you promise me you'll read them.

One key piece of knowledge is calories in, calories out. While there is a lot of nuance to this, at the end of the day I've found that counting calories gives me predictable results. READ THIS, IT'S IMPORTANT:
YOU NEED ABOUT 2,000 CALORIES PER DAY TO LIVE
ONE POUND OF FAT CONTAINS 3,500 CALORIES
IF YOU RESTRICT YOUR DIET TO 1,500 CALORIES PER DAY (NO CHEATING), I PROMISE YOU WILL LOSE FOUR POUNDS PER MONTH

4-8 lbs per month is considered a good rate of loss. Keep in mind, that means that it'll take you a long time to drop. Generally, dietitians recommend not pushing it more than that because it saps your willpower over the long haul to wring your body any more than that. It is entirely possible you may lose more weight on a slight calorie restriction because, pending the diagnosis of a disorder, your body WANTS to lose that weight.

Just remember, though, losing 8 lbs per month is 96 lbs per year. Even making good progress will take a while.

Other things: consider becoming a vegetarian--it is a lot harder to overconsume. Also, get a multivitamin in every day.

It helps to have a support network to keep you motivated. Set those small, achievable milestones, such as "this month I will lose four pounds," and let people know when you meet those goals, and make sure it is positive people that will allow you to celebrate and celebrate it with you.

It will take time, but it is entirely possible to get there. I truly hope that the motivation to see your nephew and niece grow up will give you the strength to put what I've talked about into action. It will take time...years, even, but as long as you can keep the small achievements in mind and within reach, all will be okay.

Godspeed.

So was I, but I'll actually do it.

Animation degree here. (Really dont need a degree. My professors who worked in the industry said many dont have degrees still to this day, its all about passion and skill... and being willing to work 16 hour days)

Seriously fantastic animation. All 12 principles of animation are represented.

Your bro just needs to keep uploading and making animation. Its essentially a portfolio.

Animation companies dont care if you have a degee. They want a stacked portfolio. With solid animation.

When your bro starts applying for animation jobs. Make sure he has a solid demo reel. A demo reel is only the best animation hes made compiled in one vid. Its the resume for these places. Its all about skill.

Fyi the #1 and #2 books (no particular order) for learning animation and developing it are priceless. My professors stressed these books every year. They were used in 90% of my animation classes.

(Edit: I think the low price is because you have to add the toner/cable - add that, and it will still come out very cheap but not suspiciously so. It's still cheaper than the non-duplex Brother I have which was sold together with a starter toner that lasted a long time.)

It is a very cheap printer especially considering it has duplex, much cheaper than mine too. Don't know how they managed it. I personally have even been able to use third party toner without hassle in my older Brother laser printer. I see third party toner being sold for the printer I linked as well.

Brother says TN660 toner prints 2600 pages if I'm not mistaken. On Amazon, that would be $45. I don't remember ever changing the toner in my printer either which I think has a similarly specced toner cartridge.

I suspect Brother's end game is just to embed itself in the public conscience consciousness by means of people like /u/AnalogDan and myself. Some (many) of the people and companies buying the printers will buy the original toner anyway - and since it typically allows you to print so much more than an inkjet cartridge anyway, even that's not such a bad idea. It's still a fair enough price IMO and should still give them ample opportunity to make a profit on the toner by selling large quantities at a smaller markup, rather than totally ripping off a small number of seething customers, as in the inkjet and color printing market. I'm guessing the printers themselves are just sold at cost.

Well, these ones - http://imgur.com/a/cVobL - are made from crap materials. The coarse side might be accurate, and the finishing side will almost surely be equal to the coarse side on these stones. I really wouldn't recommend them. And there are a ton of them on Amazon, that look exactly the same with a different logo.

The exceptions are the King brand. These are made in Japan (website - http://matsunaga-corp.co.jp/en/products-cat/king/ - only for reference, purchase on Amazon in my opinion) and are actually of quite good quality.

King 300 grit - $25.80 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050ADA2U

King 1000/6000 - $28.14 -
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DT1X9O

I have these in my cart to try. Compared to the Shaptons? (and he uses the full line it looks like..which is at least 1000, 2000, 5000, 8000, 12000, maybe 30000...the 30000 grit stone is $350...)

Shapton Kuromaku (Pro in USA) 1000 - $34.59 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TPFT0G

Shapton 5000 - $46.99 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TPH8YG

Atoma 400 diamond plate - $63.00 -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0031KNR2O (I see some from other sellers for cheaper...they aren't real Atoma brand. Get a Prime one.)

Whatever route you take, I cannot recommend enough a Stone Holder.

PowerTec stone holder - $16.94 -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NFB2MTI

What's the difference? What they're made of. The Shapton Pro line are made from ceramic abrasives. The King line..I honestly don't know exactly. They require soaking as they are not ceramic. But it's not just a cheap mix of whatever...King is a good brand. Naniwa also comes up a lot - very good brand. Suehiro...

If you're rich try out the Japanese Natural Stones - JNS - let me know how they work out! Lol. http://japanesenaturalstones.com ($1000+ stones...from ancient Japanese mines and stuff! Ha.)

As others have posted, tablet forms of these are available on Amazon

I've actually thrown "Miracle Berry" parties several times and it's a lot of fun! Just walk around a grocery store and try to think of everything that tastes sour and buy it! Some tips from my experiences... Each tablet will last you about 15-60 minutes (generally about 30 before effects diminish), not ALL the sourness goes away (lemons do not taste like pure sugar), thoroughly dissolve the tablet in your mouth (3-5 minutes) and then wait a couple more for the full effect, and lastly, bitterness is NOT the same as sourness. Eating the lemon peel will still be incredibly bitter.

Lemons/limes: Taste like the best lemonade/limeade ever

Pineapple: Incredibly delicious, but almost TOO sweet for some people

Oranges/orange juice: Really depends on the kind, but can substantially change the flavor

Hot Sauce: Vinegar almost tastes sugary, so it is both sweet and spicy

Pickled items: Again, vinegar becomes rather sweet

Cheese: Some cheeses taste like "dessert" cheese, especially sharp cheeses, cream cheese, cottage cheese, and goat cheese. Some people don't seem to be as effected by the cheeses as other though.

Beer/Wine: Not as profound as citrus, but definitely changes the flavor profile

Random note of caution: You'll end up wanting to eat a TON of citrus foods. This will give you an upset stomach if you don't moderate.

The reason there are fewer blacks entering UofM is because there are simply not as many of them who have the intellectual ability to qualify.

http://i.imgur.com/avgMb5E.jpg

The mean intelligence of blacks is much lower than for whites. The least intelligent ten percent of whites have IQs below 81; forty percent of blacks have IQs that low. Only one black in six is more intelligent than the average white; five whites out of six are more intelligent than the average black. These differences show in every test of general cognitive ability that anyone, of any race or nationality, has yet been able to devise. They are reflected in countless everyday situations. “Life is an IQ test.”

There is a huge academic literature on the gaps in cognitive test results, practically all of it converging on the fact that African American mean scores on cognitive tests fall below the white means by a tad more than one white standard deviation. There is in fact so much data on this now that we have meta-studies — studies of the studies: the one best-known to me is the meta-study by Roth et al. in 2001, which covered 39 studies involving nearly six million test-takers. That one standard deviation on cognitive testing has been so persistent across so many decades, an academic sociologist, calls it "the fundamental constant of American sociology" — it's like the speed of light in physics. http://www.amazon.com/The-Controversy-Media-Public-Policy/dp/0887388396

Race Differences in Intelligence: An Evolutionary Analysis The book claims to represent the largest collection and review of the global Intelligence Quotient (IQ) data, surveying 620 published studies from around the world, with a total of 813,778 tested individuals. Lynn's meta-analysis lists East Asians (IQ 105), Europeans (100), Inuit (91), South East Asians (87), Native Americans (87), Pacific Islanders (85), South Asians and North Africans (84), non-bushmen Sub-Saharan Africans (67), Australian Aborigines (62), Bushmen and Pygmies (54). Lynn defines races as the genetic clusters or ancestral population groups identified in previous genetic cluster analysis by Luigi Cavalli-Sforza and his colleagues in their 1994 book The History and Geography of Human Genes.

Blacks from families with incomes of more than $100,000 had a mean SAT score that was 85 points below the mean score for whites from all income levels, 139 points below the mean score of whites from families at the same income level, and 10 points below the average score of white students from families whose income was less than $10,000. It is a well-documented fact that blacks have shorter time horizons and are less likely to delay their gratification of their immediate desires than whites. This impulsiveness correlates strongly to disciplinary problems in school and to criminality in adult life:

Even if they come from affluent families or attend highly rated schools, black students in Ohio continue to lag far behind their white peers in school. On more than two dozen state tests given to students in kindergarten through high school last year, the average passage rate among black students was 64 percent. On average, 87 percent of white students passed.

> Crazy to see how many people arent interested in watching a 42 minute video where someone disproves allegations on them, but would happy read and believe short twitter posts with cherrypicked evidence.

Yeah, this is one of the big points of the book I'm reading right now: The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion.

Here's a relevant quote from the book:

>“Reasoning can take us to almost any conclusion we want to reach because we ask “can I believe it” when we want to believe something, but “must I believe it” when we don’t want to believe. The answer is almost always “yes” to the first question, and “no” to the second.”

I've still got a few chapters to go, but the overarching theme seems to be that we, as humans, operate primarily on implicit associations/preferences/biases, which we are mostly unaware of. We then use reasoning to justify our automatic reactions to various stimuli.

Did you catch that? The book suggests that, in general, our reasoning is not responsible for our positions on various subjects, such as moral beliefs. Our reasoning is a post-hoc justification for the subconscious and automatic reactions that we have to those things. Chew on that for awhile.

Bonus: Extreme partisanship may, literally, be addictive (you get a dopamine hit when a member of the opposing party is found to be a hypocrite, for example).

u/catmoon · 9 pointsr/videos

I've actually read the book. It's called "The Game". It's a bizarre story about an extremely insecure short, bald guy who becomes a successful "pickup artist" by learning magic tricks and wearing boas and unusual hats.

While it seems to have improved his extremely low self-esteem he doesn't build one meaningful relationship with a single person throughout the entire book.

By the end of the book I felt nothing but pity for the people who had to disconnect from the world in order to get past the anxiety that kept them from meeting people. The greatest irony is that at the point that they finally gain enough confidence to meet people, they've lost the empathy and attachment that makes a relationship worthwhile.

As a fellow mental calculator I can tell you the Trachtenberg system is a bad way to go.

It works great on paper but not so much mentally. Because with Trachtenberg you multiply right-to-left rather than left-to-right. So in your mind the units digits is the first digit you remember and the most significant digit is what you remember last.

Now if you've practiced this you know that the order in which you remember the numbers is kind of the way you 'know' the numbers. This isn't a problem if your product is a 2 or 3 digit number but if you're talking 4, 5, 6 or more digits then flipping that number around in your head to give the answer is very difficult. You'll in fact know the answer backwards rather than forwards, and trying to flip it around just leads to mistakes.

When I first began practicing I tried Trachtenberg for several months. I could do it on paper but not in my head which is what I wanted. So I tried out a different method: doing most operations left-to-right.

This is a much easier way to go in the long run. It's also the method most lightning calculators use.

Arthur Benjamin's book is a much better way to go.

Also a good read but hard to find is The Great Mental Calculators.

I think people are downvoting because this has a certain "truther" feel to it, whether you meant it that way or not.

That being said, the situation involving our foreign intelligence at the time (or lack thereof) absolutely played a crucial role in 9/11. There is a fantastic book out there by Steve Coll called Ghost Wars which goes in-depth about the role of the CIA, US and foreign governments in the lead-up to 9/11. Not in a "truther" way at all, but rather the details that contributed to the US being caught off-guard that day. Definitely worth a read for those interested in such topics, or who like history, politics, etc.

Definitely head over to /r/keto and if you want to dive more, read Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It.

Thanks to that, many friends, family members and myself reached our ideal weight. Give it a try :)

By the way, there's a really good sci-fi book about VR. It's called "Ready Player One"

It's different in the narrative, but also touches upon the topic of people becoming addicted to the virtual world. It also contains a mystery that the characters had to solve, which I found to be pretty intriguing. Also, if you grew up in the 80-ies, you'll love it even more.

Yep, and they fly great.

Hubsan X4 or Blade Nano QX are the two I can suggest (have both). Started with the X4 but eventually purchased a hobby grade transmitter and a Nano to bind with it.

WLToys and Syma make some other popular options, many of these at $50 or less (especially if you don't mind a wait and shipping from China).

If you want Prime though, here is the X4 page and here's the Blade QX BNF.

Have fun!

If you like this, read his book - Death from the Skies, its absolutely fascinating and covers all the stuff the universe can throw at us and wipe us out. Its not all depressing though and is handled with humour and wit, and rock solid science. I found the description of how a supernova takes place particularly interesting.

This is also a great learning quad . After a little over a month of draining the 3 batteries I have for it almost everyday, I feel like I have a good grasp on the basics of flying. I'm planning my first build now.

The hubsan is definitely worth the money.

I recently read a book The Righteous Mind that covers this collective behavior from a psychological perspective. It's a great book and really helps explain this sort of "crazy" behavior in a way that gives me quite a bit more empathy for these people instead of just seeing them as others. Excerpt:

> But human nature also has a more recent groupish overlay. We are like bees in being ultrasocial creatures whose minds were shaped by the relentless competition of groups with other groups. We are descended from earlier humans whose groupish minds helped them cohere, cooperate, and outcompete other groups. That doesn't mean our ancestors were mindless or unconditional team players; it means they were selective. Under the right conditions, they were able to enter a mind-set of "one for all, all for one" in which they were truly working for the good of the group, and not just for their own advancement within the group.

Another example provided: concerts or raves. Although they don't have the same supernatural underpinnings, it is quite easy to get "lost in the crowd" and go crazy in a similar way.

u/GorakKnight · 11 pointsr/videos

I have a friend who replies to the boyfriend thing with a playful "come on; you expect me to believe you have a boyfriend". It knocks the chick off balance a bit and clearly piques their interest.

I'm assuming it is something he started doing after reading "The Game" (http://www.amazon.com/Game-Penetrating-Secret-Society-Artists/dp/0060554738).

Do yourself a favor and listen to Charlie LeDuff's Fresh Air interview and go read his book. He's an amazing guy doing great journalistic work.

> I believe the biggest event that led Bin Laden to set his sights on the US was the fact that during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia welcomed US troops into their border despite Bin Laden petitioning the government to leave the responsibility of defending Saudi Arabia (and Mecca/Medina etc.) to Muslims and the mujahidden.
> When the Saudi government spurned him and allowed the US to "temporarily" establish bases and put US troops on Saudi soil, he began to take serious issue with the Saudi government. And when it became clear that the "temporary" status of US troops in Saudi Arabia was bullshit, he truly began to hate the US.

Yep yep. Steve Coll goes into great detail about this in Ghost Wars.
Great read.

If you guys want to play something similar that involves bluffing and is fun check out the game The Resistance. It's a fun game if you have people that are good at lying and keeping a straight face.

If you like to read I suggest Ready Player One

It's a bit heavy on the '80s 'members, but otherwise a fantastic adventure story.

>Fat Shaming is probably the single most cost effective way of keeping people from getting fat/getting people to lose weight.

Actually, it isn't. It just exacerbates psychological issues that reinforce the causes of obesity.

The most cost effective way is educating people about the interplay between leptin, insulin, and blood sugar. If you're genuinely curious, I recommend reading this book.

This is the best value if you're on a budget. A honing steel is essential for keeping your edge. Maintaining a sharp knife requires honing before every use, as well as occasional sharpening.

u/clumsor · 1 pointr/videos

This one
gets great reviews and is reasonably prized. I never tried it, my knive is a Güde Alpha Olive more expensive and not necessarily better.

>Would anybody be able to tell me what North Korea is like? Not as a western tourist, but as an average citizen, privileged and favored or not.

No, sorry. It really is the "hermit kingdom." The closest you can get is watching interviews with defectors on YouTube, this AMA or reading Nothing to Envy.

Stolen from here: "Al Qaeda is a global terrorist movement with the United States (including the American homeland) as a prominent, if not the primary, target. The Taliban is a Pashtun political movement with a focus on Afghanistan and Pakistan's largely Pashtun border".

Basically, the Taliban mainly cares about Afghanistan, Al Qaida cares about the whole of the Islamic world. They're active in lots of countries.

It's not that easy to explain, unfortunately. If you're really interested, I recommend the book "Ghost Wars".

This is one of the methods suggested in this book: https://www.amazon.com/Secrets-Mental-Math-Mathemagicians-Calculation/dp/0307338401

It’s a really nice read for doing mental math. The author, Arthur Benjamin, has some really impressive videos on YouTube IIRC

Here ya go. My understanding is that for all intents and purposes, a stone is a stone. A better quality one may be more durable but won't necessarily hone a blade better than a cheap one.

Apparently it's a book on seduction. I'll assume that it is something like r/seduction which is the creepiest place on reddit.

Yes, even creepier than r/clopclop. r/seduction is real

Judging by your bros channel he seems really into animation, theres a awesome book called the The Animator's Survival Kit it covers everything and can be applied to any type of animation.

Mine is 1000 grit on one side and 6000 grit on the other. This is stone I have and it will get any knife you have plenty sharp. It does take a while to get the technique down though, but it's well worth it once you do. I used youtube to teach myself how to do it correctly.

A printer like this [Referral link] or this [Not referral link] is pretty affordable.

Here [Refferal] and here [Not referral] is the toner cartridge, which isn't as cheap as an ink cartridge but lasts a heck of a lot longer.

For these two items you'll have a printer that'll last and toner that won't dry out and will print way more than regular ink.

Pfft, I wouldn't recommend building one right off the bat anyways. That's a lot of fiscal and emotional investment for something that's gonna crash and burn in the first couple months anyways. There's a bunch of cheap, wonderful, learner 'toy' grade ones out there to whet a curiosity.

Good luck with your degree. I wouldn't know where to start with that, mine was in Computer Science.

because the only thing that matters is the B017XHGP4C at the end.

For example: https://smile.amazon.com/oh-damn-thats-cool/dp/B017XHGP4C

EDIT: just realized it might not be clear what's going on.

Take this url: https://smile.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Red-Blue-Joy/dp/B01MUAGZ49/ref=...?...

Trim off everything from the ref= stuff. That's all used to track you and your history and provide personalization without storing anything on your computer (well, technically it is storing it on your computer, in the browser history).

You now have: https://smile.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Red-Blue-Joy/dp/B01MUAGZ49

The /dp/B01MUAGZ49 is the actual id for the product. Nothing else matters. Replace Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Red-Blue with woah and it will still take you to the same page.

Doing this means that:

  • if someone misspells or puts in different caps or has a localized name for the product, it can point to the same product
  • search engines see the full set of keywords in the URL, which might help SEO
  • if someone wants to share it, they can get cheeky and that drives engagement
  • users who hover over links before clicking get an idea of where they're going to: for example
  • they can differentiate traffic from different sources by putting slightly different names in the links: so they might have awesome-switch/dp/B01MUAGZ49 in a tweet, and totally-cool-switch/dp/B01MUAGZ49 in a different tweet, and then measure which tweet drove more total sales (compared to search results). no idea if they do this, but it's a strategy.
  • lots of other things
