After checking aliexpress it seems that I lied about the $20 price. Android ones start at $30, for example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/High-Quality-CX919-2GB-Quad-Core-Android-4-2-Smart-TV-BOX-Stick-MINI-PC-1080P/32510889591.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2016-New-MK809IV-Smart-TV-2GB-8GB-Android-TV-Box-Wireless-HDMI-Dongle-Android-Mini-PC/32640473667.html

These are going to be really shitty, but the point is, they can decode 1080p h264 content just fine, unlike vita/pstv.

Personally, if I had a budget around $40 I'd get an amazon fire tv stick https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B00GDQ0RMG since it's less likely to be chinese crap, or raspberry pi 3 https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-3-model-b/ (if you're into tinkering with your devices)

These will play common h264 content fine (no 10-bit though. this only matters if you watch anime encodes). They won't play HEVC but it will probably be 1-2 more years before HEVC starts getting mainstream.

That's it about HDMI sticks, however:

If you want to spend more money, NVIDIA Shield TV ($200) is the best android-based option: https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-SHIELD-Streaming-Player-Android-Gaming/dp/B00U33Q940 - it can hw-decode h264 and hevc and generally is much more powerful device.

If you have unlimited budget, the best option is to build an intel&nvidia-based HTPC and load up plex media player on it (https://www.plex.tv/blog/introducing-the-plex-media-player/). This will play pretty much everything and will give you the best quality video output, which is highly configurable: https://mpv.io/manual/master/#opengl-renderer-options just look at these options.

tl;dr: get amazon fire tv stick

Here's a serious answer:

  • A hex editor

  • A notepad replacement that supports markup (Both for taking notes and for writing code snippets)

  • I've always found it very helpful to have a few of these handy. Inspiration can strike at strange places and times, and it's not always when you're sitting at a computer and ready to work on it.

Once you've figured out the where and how text is stored, you'll need to program your own tool to extract and present it in some meaningful way to yourself and/or your translators. For that:

    > Which programming language is best suited?

Whichever language you are most comfortable with. What you need is:

  • The ability to create an interface, and

  • The ability to load, manipulate, and write raw data to and from files, which pretty much any language can do.

I will recommend you the following:

Use the ones being sold by Cameron Sino, I have 4 of them fully packaged in their nice display boxes (I keep all LiIon/LiPo batteries in special stored circumstances that batteries are kept in), currently they are exactly the same OEM batteries being used in the Vita, I'll try linking you them now:

seems they are sold out at primedeals, people seem to be having good luck with Techarvard though.

the vita 1001 has an OLED screen, which allows for near perfect black and contrast, while the 2001 has lcd.

basically the 2001 was designed to be cheaper so they could price it better. it's still an amazing device and improves upon the 1001 in a lot of ways.

Assuming you're in your place of dwelling and not on the go, the PSTV. First it has native support for DS3/4 gamepads and supports L2/R2, L3/R3, and vibration for PS 1/2/3/4 games. Second it's 720p as opposed to 544p so your games will look better. You can also whitelist it to enable all games playable assuming they don't require the camera or microphone. There is also a plugin that allows for sixaxis support. All PSTV's have 1gb of internal storage and come with firmware less than 3.60 and you can manually update from there with a usb. You can then either use the offline installer after installing HENkaku for the first time or reinstalling it later as the webkit exploit is only temporary. You can also upgrade to the pre-hacked HENkaku Enso 3.65 but beware that not all custom apps and plugins are supported by it yet.

If you only want it as a handheld then get the Vita 2000 (Slim) as it fixes many of the Vita 1000 (Fat)'s flaws. It has 1gb of internal storage and a 16gb ps vita memory card (the PS TV supports vita memory cards btw) will last you over 50 physical games. It has over an hour of extra battery life and a PACK IN non-proprietary micro-usb charger. It's more ergonomic, slimmer and lighter but just as durable. The only real advantages that the vita fat has are the fact that you can replace the back touch panel, and that it has an OLED screen. The former can be mitigated with a carbon fiber skin and the latter will burn in or burn out eventually.

If you want remote play and custom firmware you will need ps4relink as even though you can sign into psn with firmware and PSN spoofing no PS Vita below 3.67 can be "activated" (i.e. legitimized) due to a change in protocol on Sony's end. One more thing, TheFLOW has successfully hacked OFW 3.67 and is releasing it at then end of this year/early next year anticipating the Vita's end of life. So if you have the patience I'd wait for that option since you can activate your PS Vita.

EDIT: Made revisions to grammar and spelling.

EDIT 2: Made further corrections.

How soon? Because you want to act ASAP. Sony released a new firmware update that halts the current hack.

At the moment, you can access the PSN store via the DNS trick, but that can stop working at any time. Your time is pretty much limited.

  1. Follow the guide in the OP. It's the easiest step by step.

  2. Yes, you can spoof your firmware to the latest firmware.

  3. Not sure, but I bought this one: Ultimate Version SD2Vita 5.0... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07J6NYR6P?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

It installed without any problems, worked straight away and fits perfectly.

Sorry for the long read but...

I have a 32GB Sandisk USB Drive connected to my PSTV. And I completely agree that it is a headache, i have to pull it to the front of my tv stand unplug it then plug it in just to mount it each time. It is very annoying but ive been considering buying a USB Power Switch like this one: USB Power Switch That’s just the first one that came up on amazon. But anything like that would be the fix possibly for it. As long as it thinks the PSTV doesnt have anything plugged into it. But it would be alot easier to flip a little switch on and off then unplugging a cord then having to plug it back in. The only concern i have is the speed of the transfers over said switch may be slower (may be USB 1.0 or 2.0) if it even has data transfer in it, not just power. All these things im not sure of but there is certainly one that is out there to help.

Sorry again for the long spiel i just wanted to get my point across.

u/andoryuu3 · 1 pointr/vitahacks

I highly recommend a USB 3.0 microSD card reader if you have USB 3.0 ports (you'll thank me later after you transfer content from your old card lol). I bought this one by Anker:
www.amazon.com/Anker-Portable-Reader-RS-MMC-Micro/dp/B006T9B6R2/
Worth noting that this model can also be used for 3DS hardmods, which is what I originally purchased it for.

Best of luck to you dude!

C is a very small language that is easy to pick up, but takes a long time to master. This book is considered the gold standard. Good luck!

I used to use bluetooth headphones with my pstv and the sound was decent but I recently switched to a toslink converter and the sound quality is much much better. I think most tvs have an optical audio out.

The one I got has no volume control which is a little annoying but you can get a headphone volume knob or this model has one built in.

Gives probably the best setup possible for rhythm games on pstv, music also sounds 10x better.

I would upgrade to ps4 controller and this works like a charm holds the vita nice and snug, and makes gaming way easier on the vita

Verbatim do sell these cards as their Premium versions of Micro SDXC, however I have only seen up to 128GB availible but nothing higher than that, anything higher than 128GB Verbatim do NOT MAKE, beware the 256GB is a counterfeit card. Verbatim only do 8GB all the way up to 128GB versions of this card:

https://www.amazon.com/HDE-2-in1-Transfer-Charger-Playstation/dp/B007KO3C2C

This was the one I bought for $2.45. Unfortunately, they aren't available right now. I can tell you that the HDE brand has been reliable, and dependable. If you can find this brand, definitely pick one or two up. Ebay has some from China going for about a buck fiddy, but I can't say if they are crap or not. I've heard some horror stories about vita chargers, so it be best to go with what I recommended. Or get an OEM. Good luck to ya.

Hi. I have a N3DSXL running Luma CFW (plug r/3dshacks), and I am looking for something new and more challenging to mod, and the PS Vita seems like the answer (plus it has better games). Would this PS Vita be running 3.60 or lower? I read that all new US Vitas should be running 3.60 or lower but I want to be sure before I drop $140.

Edit: Also, is there any guides like 3ds.guide for installing CFW? Or is HENkaku the only homebrew stuff there is?

Samsung microSD cards are cheap on Amazon right now! Great option for using SD2VITA! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072HRDM55/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cYb9BbA3CN24B

u/Thepower200 · 1 pointr/vitahacks

I have a first model ps vita 1000 with a 16gb. I know space is okay but is that all I really need to hack my vita, or do I need those HENkaku sd card holder for example like this one being sold on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075SZ3QV3/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520761152&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=henkaku&dpPl=1&dpID=41z302RyeWL&ref=plSrch

What exactly are these for?

u/MoldyCoals · 1 pointr/vitahacks

Amazon link

These are what I use. Same as u/Varon9 said just on amazon. I got mine next day. They work pretty well.

SanDisk Ultra 400GB microSDXC UHS-I card with Adapter - SDSQUAR-400G-GN6MA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074RNRM2B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7il1CbZPMJECE

Any sd card and sd2vita will work. I like the plastic sd2vitas since they are easier to take out

u/Joseph011296 · 2 pointsr/vitahacks

I got mine on Amazon, probably also available on Ebay.
I've been using this one since the day Fl0w released his updated hack https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075SZ3QV3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/AeonTek · 1 pointr/vitahacks

When purchasing a refurb from Sony, is it likely to be updated to 3.61? Link

u/alzy1982 · 5 pointsr/vitahacks

Is it the vita phat or slim? If slim, skip the 4gb card and get yourself an SD card adaptor asap. I have the SD2vita version 3.0 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075SZ3QV3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Definitely do not bother with the first versions that were released and are now priced extremely cheap. They fail often. Much more advisable to spend £10-£15 on a decent one.

And of course, update to 3.60 FW

u/Johntendo64 · 1 pointr/vitahacks

nope, none of the home-brew apps were there afterwards. I had to use the site to reinstall molecular shell, and thats when the hangup happened, when I wanted to FTP the proper VPKs for use (VitaShell, Enso, etc) the FTP client wasn't able to see the server molecular shell had made.

I decided afterward to wait till the weekend when I go to my S/O's place and use her PC and internet and just set everything up there.

I plan on using the Pastebin file you mentioned above to setup SD2Vita properly, and this time, I never even inserted the Sony memory card, so that should minimize problems.

for reference, heres the SD2Vita adapter im using.
