Hey thanks, that means a lot!

I'm going from memory of things I've read from the past, but when it seems a bit dubious or if I think I might have misremembered (the Matra gearbox story, for example, or the dead bugs showing the 917's lack of downforce), I'll do a quick Google search to see if I can find some reliable sources. What I'm using for race results is this great site, while I'm also relying a bit on wikipedia articles.

I'm also planning on re-reading this excellent book by Peter Morgan for the 1980's Group C period. I think he also wrote one on the 917 that's just as good, but I haven't found a copy yet.

I'll admit my love of Le Mans has mainly come through my love of Porsches but you're right, every team small or large would have plenty of stories like this. It's an amazing and cruel race.

This gif was captured from Amazon's Documentary Season, "Le Mans: Racing is Everything"

Amazon is currently running a promotion where Amazon Prime members can watch the 6-episode season for free.

I was in the middle of 4th episode when this occurred and felt the need to share their illustration while my WEC family. It has been slowed down to 80% of the original speed for visibility purposes.

T-Minus 8 hours until the start of LeMans!

The money doesn't add up I suspect.

They issued £500m of bonds to pay off Dennis and invest. Ojjeh bankrolled the F1 operation last year (and I guess, this year too).

On top of that there is a government investigation, which I assume is still going on : https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2018/06/30/mystery-investigation-could-put-brake-mclarens-profits/

The good news is that article would appear to be wholly misleading in terms of finances - it quotes a drop in revenue and a £66m loss and reduced output of road cars, yet the Q2 report (https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/1036981-static-assets-portal-production/investors/direct_uploads/1535525096_McLarenHoldingsLimitedInterimReportH22018.pdf) says the exact opposite. I also note from that report they are selling more shares to generate cash.

The bonds need to be paid back + interest at some point (I think the original term was 3 years), wouldn't surprise me to see them float on the stock market to achieve that, unless they can find some wealthy backers.

Its mainly about the street cars but it touches on the race cars a good bit. https://www.amazon.com/RX-7-Mazdas-Rotary-Engine-Sports/dp/1787111334

Wow - that looks nuts. I cannot imagine you would get away with that at most circuits.

I see a lot of people withfolding steps, obviously nowhere near the same elevation, but much more likely to be acceptable.

Yeah! Well! Mine has a nice chair.

How many hours are you going to have to work over the 24 hours?

^(Yes, I want more screens :( )

I have this one. Bigger / a little more expensive, but almost double the capacity for under double the cost.
