I suppose it really depends on your budget and, perhaps more importantly, which size you want the flashlight to be. Also important is what kind of power source you want it to use.

If you want a small everyday flashlight, which will take a beating, last and has a pretty good battery life, the 1L-1AA I liked above is a really good choice. I've had a few Streamlight's over the years and have never had an issue with any of them, even after daily carry and abuse.

If you want a larger flashlight also have the HL-X. In this catagory I'd also consider the Surefire Fury series, such as the P2X. These are more expensive, but Surefire is considered by most heavy users (military/police) to be the gold standard for a flashlight. Build quality-wise you can't do better.

A lot of people (for example on /r/flashlight) will try to sell you on extreme lumen rechargeable lights like EagleTac, Olight, and Nightcore. Some of these lights are pretty good, but a lot of them aren't. They usually do live up to the promised brightness, but the machining and materials quality leaves something to be desired (at least for many of them, and in my experience). For the amount of money these usually go for, I'd get something from Streamlight, Surefire or Insight instead, as 600 lumen is enough for pretty much any personal flashlight use. For most applications 250-300 lumen is plenty.

Some people I know really like Fenix as well. I'm sure they're fine but I don't have any personal experience with them.

You could actually make these pretty easily. You'd just need a blue LED, a photoresistor, and a couple of volts. I'd say go with an LR44 since they're cheap, small, a couple volts, and will lie flat in the shoe. Do the math or play around with them to see how many you'll need (Depends on how you set up the circuit, though I'm guessing one in each shoe will be fine).

So the circuit is pretty simple with the three circuit elements (LED, photoresistor, battery) in series. It's a little tricky though, since the photoresistor's resistance increases as the amount of light hitting it increases. So if you just wired everything up in series, the LED would turn on when it's light outside... that's the opposite of what we want. But you can make a voltage divider circuit and include the photoresistor in that, so that the brightness of the room and the brightness of the LED are inversely proportional, which is good.

Once you have the circuit, you just have to find a way to somehow put it in the shoe. Take the sole out, drill a hole in the tip for the LED, and drill a hole on the side for the photoresistor. Then lay your circuit flat inside the shoe, position the LED and photoresistor accordingly, and then glue them in so they stay in place. Cover the circuit with a strip of duct tape so it stays down, and then cover that with a Dr. Scholl's to maximize comfort and durability.

If anyone actually wants to do this, let me know. I've linked to the parts you would need, and they're all pretty cheap (the Dr. Scholl's are the most expensive part). I can draw up a circuit schematic if anyone's interested so then it would just be a matter of you soldering, drilling, and gluing it together.

Edit: Might also be a good idea to include a switch so you can save on battery life. There are all kinds of switches out there to choose from, and you can put it pretty much anywhere in the circuit where all the current flows through (so avoid putting it in the voltage divider section). So that part of the design is totally up to you. Maybe drill another hole in the side of the shoes for the switches, maybe have them be toe-activated, it's your call.

My two favorites:

Temp-tations bakeware. All of it is amazing, microwave/oven/dishwasher safe, they have lids for storage.... I have one that's a huge tray (which is also cookware) with a flat cookie-sheet lid, then inside is a bunch of smaller pieces.. I can fill them up with dips for parties, or rice/beans and toss them all in the oven to keep warm, then fill the main portion with fajita meat.. whatever. They're super dope. I have that style and then a few smaller soup bowls and other things she's gotten me as gifts. Love 'em all

The Ecolution Micro-Pop microwave popcorn popper. This thing is a game-changer for microwave popcorn... I was skeptical but man it does such a great job. I will never ever go back to bag popcorn

There's a couple caveats--it says you don't have to use oil, but mine ends up burning a little bit if I don't do oil. One small spray of oil on the bottom will prevent anything from sticking and burning and 2) you can put butter in the top to melt on the popcorn while it pops, but it doesn't work that well unless you cut the butter into smaller portions... then it works great. It's really nbd, just cut if off the stick in smaller pieces

I've turned a few people onto both products, they're seriously great

Based on your comment, I'll assume you're not American, so I'm not surprised. It's a very regional thing. It originated from and is still really only served in Cleveland, Ohio. It was originally served at Cleveland Indians baseball games, and is still a staple at Cleveland sporting events. You can find it in some nearby cities, but even in Cincinnati (4 hours away, and in the same state) it's almost completely unknown.

Here is a link to the original and best one, Bertman's: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000E1G6Z/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1453910469&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=bertman%27s+ballpark+mustard&dpPl=1&dpID=51KfluNSy8L&ref=plSrch

It's pretty cheap, and worth a try, and I'm sure Amazon can get it to wherever you are! I recommend trying it on a hotdog (boiled is more authentic to the ballpark) with ketchup and American yellow mustard for the true experience.

I have one similar to the red one they said was hard to clean. Honestly I love it, it's the best pet hair picker-upper I've ever used. I have this one. Though, I've used it only on blankets and sheets, not stairs or anything like that.

u/notaneggspert · 16 pointsr/wheredidthesodago

You can actually buy them direct for $100

This is the first video I found. Seems good so far but no idea if she get's products for free and generally gives things a fair review. Or if she's pretty open about where she sources things for review.

Sorry If I sound like a shill but if you live in an apartment/care about electricity use then this or a convection toaster over can be a lot faster than using a giant oven.

If I saw one at the Goodwill/Thrift Store I'd be all over it.

In case anyone has wondered, this works, but not nearly as well as a much cheaper one from ebay/amazon.

This is what's considered the coarse sharpener on one of those cheap ones, then it has a finer ceramic one that is much better at getting that perfect edge (albeit temporarily).

So just buy something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Smiths-CCKS-2-Step-Knife-Sharpener/dp/B00032S02K/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1405649926&sr=8-6

They sell ear wax removal kits at stores that are probably < 5 dollars. It has a solution that works to soften ear wax and usually a bulb syringe (like the ones used to clean babies noses out). Safest and most effective solution to do at home. Amazon link

I have bought a hose like this (But different brand) on Amazon and I LOVE IT. I only use mine to water all the various potted plants around the front and side of my house, but it's held up EXTREMELY well. It also shrinks down very small when it's not full of water, doesn't kink up and even came with a handy thingee so you can store it neatly.

The magic wand is pretty insanely powerful. However if you get one if these you can control it much better and it's actually enjoyable, unless you're a cheap-o.

u/ItsADanThing · 11 pointsr/wheredidthesodago

A bit pricey but Knipex raptor pliers are similar in concept but let you squeeze the two parts together to get a better grip.

I have never used that model but I swear by their cobra and "pliers wrench" lines. None of them are cheap but they are the best pliers I have ever used by far.

Wow, this stuff is still being sold and actually has (mostly) good reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Good-Looking-Color-Spray-Black/dp/B0026SGLWK

What the fuck are you smoking?

One of the more popular kettles in the tea community is this and it is great https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005YR0F40/ there are a few higher end ones that heat up even faster as well.

The variable temp is important for tea ofc but lmfao @ you thinking that I'm using a stove or that it would be unsafe. This thing will hold the temp for 2 hours before it gives up and turns off.

What is your solution for the shower hair? I've just been draino blasting it when it gets clogged.

Edit: Wow I have a lot of replies!

Here are the top suggestions:

  1. Take a coat hangar and bend it into a hook, then jimmy-jam that sucker down the pipe and pull out the hair debacle.

  2. Similar to a coat hangar is this little spiky dildo that goes in easy but comes out like a horny duck. It promises to fuck the hair right out of the drain and is $2-4 online or at your local hardware store.

  3. Never let the offending hair get down the drain in the first place; brush it out first, stick it to the wall, or use a handy drain prophylactic. (again, online or at your local fix-it store)

  4. Various formulations of DIY draino, most common being bleach and boiling water. (Hot water will denature some proteins all on its own)

These are the pair I use. https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetooth-Headphones-Wireless-Memory-Protein/dp/B01NAJGGA2

Great quality for the price and comfortable. I have no complaints about them.

For clarification, your tv needs to have bluetooth as well.

u/Quarkbeastx · 7 pointsr/wheredidthesodago

Someone is selling that for £999.11. And that's not with free delivery. Those nuns had better be having a whole lot of fun.

u/kiantech · 2 pointsr/wheredidthesodago

its because you know if you do buy it, its going to be a piece of shit even though you want it to work.

except this one gets pretty good reviews on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Drop-Stop-Original-Patented-Filler/dp/B00BYH6C1E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381299936&sr=8-1&keywords=dropstop

I had an issue with it and put one of those hair-stopper things (kinda like this) on the top of the drain and it helped quite a bit.

u/Bradalax · 10 pointsr/wheredidthesodago

Is this available in the UK? I so want to buy this for my dad.....a vicar.

I always look out for 'father ted' type shit for him. A popular favourite is the Nuns Having Fun calendar
