Okay... this is going to be long, so be prepared!

I LOVE this game. It might be my second favourite Bomberman Game in Story Mode and I've completed about 20 of them so far.

.

If you plan on playing the game do NOT watch these videos completely. I watched about 7 minutes of the first one (the first 5 minutes or so are just exposition) and was convinced to buy it immediately. This is a long walkthrough.

Part I - Beginner Mode

Part II - Normal Mode 1st half

Part III - Normal Mode 2nd half

The game has you play through twice. In the first run through there are a bunch of boards that remain locked until you get the KEY to open them by completing the game in Beginner Mode. This also allows you to catalogue all of the enemies by pointing the Wiimote at them once you find the hidden robe. Even on beginner mode I can't do this with the bosses without dying, but I got all the others. It's pretty cool and much better to do when you are playing the easier mode.

.

I wrote an Amazon review for the game. This is what I said:

"This game was the last one made for a home console by Hudson Soft before they were absorbed by Konami. Surprisingly, it is a return to the 2D style puzzle game that brought Bomberman to prominence and it is an absolute JOY to play. If you like the Super Bomberman titles you'll love this game. It is actually 2.5D, similar to Super Bomberman R. The level design is beautiful and fun.

The only negative is that the game never got a release anywhere outside of Japan so the story mode is completely in Japanese. Luckily this isn't a game-breaker, although it does make it a little less fun. Still, overall this is the absolute BEST Bomberman game since Super Bomberman 5 on the Super Famicom (SNES). The other thing that might be considered a negative is that story mode is played exclusively with the Wiimote and does require some motion play to navigate the boards. You have to move it up and down to work a lever that takes you across a bridge, for example. You also have to point the Wiimote at enemies to inventory them! Personally, I am not the biggest fan of motion stuff in games, but in Bomberman Blast it is not bad at all.

I cannot recommend this game enough, especially if you are a fan of the classic Bomberman game-play. It is, without a doubt, one of the best Bomberman games ever released! If you have a Wii and like Bomberman games, this is a must have."

.

The game was released twice in Japan. I bought the "Hudson Best" version because I was able to get it NEW (sealed) for $34 including shipping. The price has gone up a little, but I think the game is really worth it. Here are the links to the two cheapest on ebay and the Amazon pages for each version of the game:

Ebay original release used - $28.81

Ebay Hudson Best re-release NEW - $46.60

Amazon - Original Release

Amazon - Hudson Best Re-release

Looking over what is available, I can see that there are still nicely priced NEW copies of the Hudson Best version of the game available from $37.21 on Amazon. That is the page I got mine from. It took about 3 weeks to get to me. Honestly, for me, $9 more to get the game NEW versus a used copy is a really great deal!

.

It is important to note that you absolutely need Homebrew and the Gecko app if you plan on playing the game on a non-Japanese Wii. If you have some knowledge of Japanese it really helps too. All of the menus are in Japanese and it can be a struggle even to figure out how to save the game. It is a little bit of a drag, but the game is so much fun that I think it's a minor complaint.

.

I am currently on a chronological playthrough of ALL the Bomberman Games that have a story mode. I just finished Bomberman '94 and am on to play Super Bomberman 2 again, which is my favourite. I have to admit that I cheated when I got this game in the mail. After seeing the youtube video I linked to you, I was so excited that I couldn't wait and immediately popped it in my Wii. The gameplay is so addictive that I didn't put it down until I finished it. I think when I get to it again I'll try to do some of the checklist parts of the normal playthrough. I forgot to mention that each board has a checklist when you play it the second time. They are things like: beat the board in under a given amount of time, or destroy all the soft blocks... It is written in Japanese and I'm actually not exactly sure what else is on the checklist! I know I got about a third of them when I beat the game. I also forgot to mention that unlike most of the other Bomberman games you can withstand multiple hits, because you have 💖💖💖 in the upper left that determine your health. You also collect gems from soft blocks and upgrade your bombs, fire, speed, and other power-ups in the between boards screen where you talk to the girl who asked for your help. There are a few other Bomberman games that work that way, but it is less common.

So this is my little geeking out about Bomberman Blast post! I hope you found it useful. If you like the 2D Bomberman games, I think you will really like this one.

My headphones have adjustable volume. How would that compare to something like this though? https://www.amazon.com/Eeejumpe-inches-Stereo-Splitter-3-5mm-Adapter/dp/B0009JFF7A/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=P2G1M8GC9K6E6WTK4MJC

Edit: Actually, scratch that. I'd prefer not having to keep switching the audio cables from the TV to headphones, so the Wii2HDMI converter with headphones that include an adjustable dial seems like the best solution. Appreciate the help!

Wii is great! Like you said, it's already established with a big library of Wii games. In addition to that, you've got the library of GameCube games at your disposal as well. Grab a couple of GCN controllers and go apeshit have fun :)

u/Jinjiiii · 2 pointsr/wii

If you are going to get a 3rd party remote, I'd go for Nyko or PowerA. I've actually had a PowerA remote since the wii released, and it's still working perfectly fine. Obviously first party controllers are the best ones you can buy, but the 3rd party ones are generally cheaper.

Classic controller pro is a godsend.

Also This is pretty beautiful.

The listings sometimes aren't completely clear, but here are some examples:

https://www.amazon.com/PORTHOLIC-Converter-Wii2HDMI-Adapter-Compatible/dp/B07539JW4W/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
From the description: "which means the adapter will NOT magically turn your games into 720p or 1080p.
Instead the converter will use the component analog 480p video signal and turn it into digital information to be send through the HDMI cable so as to help Will be functioned in 720/1080p device with better viewing." So what they mean is, the device just converts the analog 480p to a digital 480p signal, so no upscaling.

https://www.amazon.com/LiNKFOR-converter-Adapter-Converter-Supports/dp/B071NX2CS6/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1536357990&sr=8-10&keywords=wii2hdmi
From the description (and also rather clear): "[HDMI Output Resolution]HDMI upscale to 720p or 1080p high definition output"

Note that I'm personally more of an advocate for generic adapters (component/YPbPr to hdmi) instead of the Wii specific ones, since they are compatible with other consoles as well. For example this component to HDMI adapter: https://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Adapter-Component-Output-ET113/dp/B00TQ6ZCF2/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1536358529&sr=8-4-fkmr0&keywords=avermedia+e+t113

You'll also want to buy a Classic Controller Pro. It works great for the games on the older systems, and it's good for newer games like Goldeneye (must-buy) and Call of Duty.

u/Dynablade_Savior · 1 pointr/wii

You can use the Wii Classic Controller (https://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Nintendo-Standard/dp/B002TLTBN0/?th=1), but that's all I know about the VWii. Even with the adapter, GCN controllers won't work on the VWii. If you want more controller options, see if the game is available on the Wii U EShop. Good luck.

u/billybobiswatching · 2 pointsr/wii

I believe the Wii Family Edition isn't compatible with GCN controllers. For a Wii that has GCN compatibility the Wii would have ports on the top of the console (along with 2 memory card slots) you just have to open up the top. The best I can suggest you to do is to get another Wii Remote on a site like eBay (around the 10 dollar price range for an official one) and a PDP Fight Pad or a Hori Battle Pad (which are basically Classic Controllers that are like Nintendo GameCube controllers, you plug them up to the Wii Remote like the Nun-Chuck or a regular Wii Classic Controller.)

I used to have a component to HDMI adapter and it was honestly terrible. Bad picture and used to cut out for a few seconds regularly. I just upgraded to a different brand of wii2hdmi and it works wonderfully. The picture is noticeably better and doesn’t cut out. It has the audio port even though it is not needed since he sound goes through hdmi. I honestly couldn’t be happier with this purchase

Wii to HDMI Converter PORTHOLIC Real 720P 1080P HD Output Video Audio Converter Adapter with High Speed HDMI Cable 6 ft Supports All Wii Display Modes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07539JW4W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_tAxx8imSbuUN1

u/ironfixxxer · 1 pointr/wii

I picked up this to play Gamecube games on my Wii. It's got a longer cord than the original Gamecube controllers and is the Japanese version but will work on any Wii / Gamecube.

Also don't forget to get a memory card! Can't use the Wii's memory to save the Gamecube games.

u/Philip_Swiftopher · 5 pointsr/wii

Those cheap wii2hdmi converters are crap. I use a Portholic wii2hdmi and I absolutely love it. It is universally considered one of the best brands for wii2hdmi.

u/fgutz · 1 pointr/wii

make sure you look for one that's shielded well.

I bought this one and kept having issues where the screen would go blank once in a while randomly and also when my window a/c unit (4 feet away) would turn on from fan to cool.

u/double_a_ron · 1 pointr/wii

Not sure if you solved your problem but this is honestly your best bet:

u/TheManWithNoLegs · 2 pointsr/wii

I actually have a wii2hdmi converter, it’s just upscaled. Either way the quality is pretty solid and I like just having HDMI cords to deal with instead of juggling between proprietary cables or even monster cables.

u/hasnopants · 2 pointsr/wii

http://www.amazon.com/Wii-PS3-VGA-HDTV-Cable-Nintendo/dp/B0015MISAG

It looks like you can get a VGA cable for the Wii here, made by hyperkin. I don't know if it is an added benefit to you that it has PS3 connectivity too but it seems like that would get the job done for you. 480 progressive would be the highest resolution for your Wii.

u/fuzeebear · 2 pointsr/wii

I have successfully used my PS2 controller, with a PS2->GC adapter.

If I remember correctly, it even let me play Tatsunoko vs Capcom with a NubyTech SF pad.

u/HenkPoley · 6 pointsr/wii

You might want to use Amazon's "Customers who viewed this item..." feature.

Apart from clicking around on their site, it works like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Twilight-Princess-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000FQBPCQ/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt

Take the part after /dp/, so B000FQBPCQ in this case. Put http://www.amazon.com/sim/ in front, and /2/&pf=video_games at the end, like this:

http://www.amazon.com/sim/B000FQBPCQ/2/&pf=video_games

u/bosslickspittle · 2 pointsr/wii

I use this controller because it feels like the Gamecube controller, but it connects to a Wii remote so it is sort of wireless. Plus I think I paid about $15 for it at a Gamestop, new in box. I also have a Princess Peach themed one.

Edit: This is read as a Classic Controller, so any game that lets you play with the classic controller should work with these.

u/chiefsucker · 1 pointr/wii

It really depends on how much quality you demand. I for myself was never happy with knockoffs and always bought (and still buy) original controllers, no matter for which platform. Especially for the Wii there are sometimes promotions in local stores, i.e. I got a Wii Classic Controller Pro for 18 € in a local store. That’s pretty decent and I also use it to play games in DeSmuME.

u/Pinbrawler · 2 pointsr/wii

Hmm interesting. Here is my adapter

https://www.amazon.com/Eastvita-Nintendo-Converter-Upscaling-Adapter/dp/B00GRQAMJA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1486065354&sr=8-4&keywords=wii+hdmi

I haven't messed with the settings of the wii or gc mode either. I have real GC discs and usbloader to try. So I could try usbloader and change any video output settings too.

u/rainbowbattlekid · 1 pointr/wii

Yeah I've gotten that impression re:forced widescreen. I was wondering if a non-wii-specific component>HDMI adapter would work.

Like, this adapter has at least one reviewer who has dealt with that and says this doesn't do it (not for the wii, but re: 4:3 in general), but I am also looking for something cheaper if possible. But maybe I should just try that and then go from there...

u/keane_eye · 1 pointr/wii

I bought this composite-to-vga video converter and it works in displaying the video onto my monitor. Something to note is that you still need a sound solution - I use this composite-to-3.5mm converter and plug my headphones/speaker into it with a male-male 3.5mm. It's not the most elegant setup but it gets the job done.
