Features:
First thing I'd do is order [Wii Party U] ( http://www.amazon.com/Party-Black-Remote-Plus-nintendo-u/dp/B00DC7FWRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381842635&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+party+u).
It's $50 and comes with a black motion + controller and comes out this month. The game looks really fun local mutliplayer, and you will really want a Wiimote+ in your collection as well so this kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Grab a Black Nunchuck to match and you should be good to go.
[NintendoLand] (http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Land-wii-u/dp/B002I0K3M0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381843310&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+land) - Is really fun local multiplayer, and can be found for $20 or less these days. Keep an eye out and you can get it cheap.
[Need for Speed Most Wanted U] ( http://www.amazon.com/Need-Speed-Most-Wanted-Nintendo-u/dp/B00A39IEN8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1381843367&sr=8-6&keywords=need+for+speed+most+wanted ) - is the best version of the game. They support every feature the PS360 has + off screen play, a co-driver mode which helps you change your environments, DLC included, further draw distances and higher res textures (they used the PC textures, not the PS360 ones) so if you don't already have it, it's a great game and under $20.
[Rayman Legends] ( http://www.amazon.com/Rayman-Legends-nintendo-wii-u/dp/B008AU4YEA/ref=sr_1_1_title_0?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1381843522&sr=1-1&keywords=rayman+legends+wiiu ) - Is also best on Wii U, in particular if you have someone to play co-op with.
I'd also at least try the [Zombie U] ( http://www.amazon.com/ZombiU-Nintendo-Wii-U/dp/B00897Z27C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381843957&sr=8-1&keywords=zombie+u), Monster Hunters 3, [Wonderful 101] ( http://www.amazon.com/The-Wonderful-101-Nintendo-Wii-U/dp/B002I08CSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381844015&sr=8-1&keywords=wonderful+101), Sonic & All Stars Racing all of which are pretty good and have demos in the eShop.
Some Wii Games you missed since the Wii U is 100% Backwards compatible.
[Metroid Prime Trilogy] ( http://www.amazon.com/Metroid-Prime-Trilogy-Collectors-Edition-Nintendo/dp/B002ATY7JE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381842549&sr=8-1&keywords=metroid+prime+trilogy ) - Fantastic. Can't be stressed enough. 3 FANTASTIC 20+ hour games, and the motion / pointers controls are fantastic. This is how FPS's should be done.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and [or 2] (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Galaxy-2-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002BSA388/ref=pd_sim_vg_2) - Both are great, but if you're going to get [Super Mario 3D World] (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-3D-World-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B00DC7G0GG/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1381844129&sr=1-1&keywords=mario+world) I can see waiting on them.
[MadWorld] ( http://www.amazon.com/MadWorld-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B0019SY1D4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381842523&sr=8-1&keywords=madworld ) - Short and fun, guilty pleasure kind of game. Think of the movie "The Running Man" done with a Sin City style and you're pretty close and it's under $10 now. Also for guilty pleasures I enjoyed House of the Dead: Overkill
[Red Steel 2] ( http://www.amazon.com/Red-Steel-2-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001TOMR0C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381842459&sr=8-1&keywords=red+steel+2 ) - Fun game that probably would of sold better if they didn't call it "Red Steel 2", it's a LOT better than the 1st one and different enough that it could of been it's own IP.
Any Tiger Woods from 10 and up - I enjoyed them all, but once they added Wiimotion+ support it controlled much better.
[Punch-Out!!!] ( http://www.amazon.com/Punch-Out-Nintendo-Selects-Wii/dp/B005EIIBKY/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1381842847&sr=1-1&keywords=punchout ) Has support for motion controls or old fashioned NES style. Fun game.
1.) Neither, You need to use either Wiimote (normal or plus), Wiimote+Nunchuk, or Wii Classic Controller (or CCPro). I recommend the Wii Classic Controller Pro. However, you can use the Gamepad as a screen for your Wii games.
2.) Seeing as you haven't played a game since the Gamecube era, and having no idea of what type of games you enjoy except SSB, I can barely recommend games, but: Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Sonic: Lost World, The Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, New Super Mario Bros. U (and Luigi U), maybe Lego City: Undercover or Zombi U, and eventually Mario Kart 8.
3.) Injustice is a good game, though I believe the Wii U version doesn't have all the DLC/doesn't have the 'Ultimate Edition). Black Ops 2 is good if you enjoy Call of Duty post Modern Warfare 4. Neither games are 'elite/hardcore' in their respective genres (Fighting/FPS).
4.) I'd recommend the Wii U Pro Controller for most Wii U games that support it. There are some good Virtual Console titles on the Wii U eshop, like Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Megaman X, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Earthbound for SNES, and more recently Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion, and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror for GBA, with Golden Sun, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Yoshi's Island coming in the next week.
Hey bud,
I, personally, find Shulk to be a tough character to learn. I think you'd benefit from trying out different characters; after all, it's always the same button combinations -- that's the beauty of smash.
Shulk is a slower character; I'd recommend learning with a medium speed character for all around damage and maneuverability. This game is about positioning and predicting the enemy; having a bulky character means you're constantly struggling with your own mobility rather than having time to think about positioning. Once you get a better understanding of the game, you would switch back to Shulk and have a deeper appreciation for his attack power.
Some good examples of medium-speed include Lucina, Mario, Zelda, Falco. They're really well rounded characters. My personal favorites in the game are Fox, Rosalina&Luma, Toon Link, Peach, Charizard, and Lucina; it goes to show that all weight-classes are viable and fun in their own regard. Since you already know the Counter ability, Lucina/Marth would be a decent place to start.
While some say it takes the joy out of it, the best way to get better is playing 1v1, no items, and a basic stage like Final Destination or Battlefield. It cuts out all the random things that happen.
Playing against a single computer and ramping up the difficulty is a good way to learn. You can mirror match, to see how a level 9 computer does certain moves/combos. Maybe you'll see them do something you don't already know, and you can try to mimic it, like "teching." From here, you can figure out which moves have a slower recovery (i.e. every time you use this one ability, you get hit... better not use that ability unless you know you can hit him with it). In time, playing against the same person/computer will improve your game.
As for controls, I know many friends that learned the Smash during Brawl, and play the game just fine using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck; in the end it's about personal preference and how you learned the game. Ideally, a GameCube controller has the perfect layout. To cut your expenses, you should be able to get (http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU) for around $25 if you scope it out, which plugs into a Wii remote and is wired as a Classic Controller. If you don't, the GamePad layout is fine.
Finally, if 1v1, no-items, final destination just isn't fun for you, forget about it! Play to have fun, not to memorize combos. I spent 2-3 hours today with my brother learning Captain Falcon, laughing at trying to hit one-another with his side-air knee attack. Anytime I learned anything new about the character, he'd mimic it and vice versa until we just got better with the character as a whole.

Those are some mighty low desired price points... You say that you're using Gamestop as the baseline for those but there are 4 other retailers that also accept trade ins.
Game | Best Buy| Amazon | Target | Walmart
-SMM-| $27.00 | $35.17 | $28.50 | $30.61
-HW-- | $27.00 | $21.47 | $11.35 | $22.98
MH3U | $3.00 | ^^^^. $2.62 | $4.95 | $5.97
Sm4sh | $23.00 | $23.51 | $11.75 | $23.49
Splatoon | $23.00 | $29.96 | $23.75 | $21.36
SM3DW | $17.00 | $18.76 | $11.75 | $21.00
NSMBU | $14.00 | $20.04 | $8.10 | $12.57
I understand that you want to spend only $107.20 on 7 games but folks can get $162.65 if they shop around for the best values for their games. That being said the best prices I can find are:
That comes to $254.95 which looks to be a bit more than you wanted to pay. Unfortunate for you that Target just had a B2G1 free on video games the previous week. Basically made all games 33% off. Aside from eBay and Craigslist, those are the best prices I can find on these items at the moment.
Buy this to use GameCube controllers with your Wii U, it's also on EBay
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BS520SG/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?qid=1369567899&sr=8-7&pi=SL75
I have 2 and I'm ordering 2 more. They are fantastic. Hook up either a wired controller or a wavebird base and it works great with either. No delay.
The Eshop is getting better week by week. The upgrade fee for $1.50 from Wii VC titles to Wii U VC titles is awesome because you get full tablet support once it's a Wii U supported game. Even if the game is not Wii U supported the games can be transferred and still played through the "Wii" app on the Wii U. They work just as easy as they did on Wii. I use my adapter to use GC controllers with them. Right now I'm Rolling through OoT and it's awesome. Beats the shit out of the Wii controller Nintendo offered before.
Go for it. More games are coming out in the coming weeks and months. I love my Wii U and ill never think twice about ever having it. I've convinced a few friends to pick one up as well :)
If you are in the United States, your best bet for a Pro Controller will be from Amazon:

I have one and it is fantastic, especially for Mario Krt 8.

These are some off the top of my head. Check the E-shop because I believe a couple of these games will be going on sale in the next couple of weeks as a promotion to Super Smash Bros.
Hoped I helped :)
It's not quite a pro controller, but for me it's been just as good. I got the Mario branded Hori Battle pad, and I have really loved it. It's perfect for Mario Kart, and the second best thing for Smash (only the original GC controllers are better imo). I play pretty much everything with it except when motion controls are needed, then I just use the gamepad.
Super Mario 3D World
It's pretty long, it has a lot of tough bonus levels and I'm not one to 100% games but this is one that is fun to try it with! Tons of replay value and its also fun with friends.
Pikmin 3 is nice also... but you could get a few games like Mass Effect 3, Assassins Creed IV, and Monster Hunter for like $50 total.
I purchased two adapters on amazon and here's what I got.
Both are the same, inputs are only for OTHER Wii remote accessories. I'm so frustrated because I was excited to finally use my GC controllers. But anyway, I'm trying to ask for a replacement but Amazon doesn't let me and says it's only for standard refund. DAMMIT.
Has this happened to anyone? How did you handle it? I don't want to pay for returned shipping and I would REALLY like to receive replacements already instead of having to look online again and purchase two more. I didn't even know that they made these? The picture clearly shows a slot for GC controllers. But yeah, all help/advice appreciated.
EDIT: I didn't mean to give amazon any bad light, they gave me a full refund right away and I'm still going to buy another pair of adapters to use my GC controller. Didn't mean to rant so much, I just thought this unlucky fail was hilarious enough for reddit to see.
EDIT2: I realized after reading some comments that I forgot to mention that I own the Wii U, although I hoped it was rather obvious seeing as how I posted this in r/WiiU. Thanks to those who rightfully assumed this
I actually just finished putting my two anti-4-year-old accessories on my GamePad last night. I can't speak about any of the products you listed, but here's my solution:
I went with the RocketFish Invisishell (got mine at Best Buy, $7.99 retail) to protect the GamePad itself. It seems pretty sturdy and covers most of the gamepad. Being clear was a big thing for me, so that you could still see the Hylian detailing on the limited edition GamePad. This particular shell also has room at the bottom so that it can still be docked (Hori makes a similar product, but it's twice as much and can't be docked).
For a screen protector I went with the Hori Precision Screen Filter (could only find this online, $7.99 retail) - it was fairly painless to apply, definitely didn't have any problems as far as air bubbles. I did have a little problem with dust, and will definitely say that if you get any dust under it to flip the instructions over and read the section on removing dust. I didn't and ended up with twice as much dust under it as a result. I'll also note that they make a kind of bundle with a screen protector, stylus, and screen cloth - apparently this has a different protector that isn't as good, so go with the one that is screen protector only.
As an aside, I really don't get why people downvote these kinds of questions. Had the same thing happen when I asked for some input as well.
From the eshop, Runner 2 is a lot of fun. It's sort of a hybrid between a rhythm game and a sidescroller. Also I've heard good things about Trine 2. I've played Trine 1, which was awesome, and the sequel also supports 3-player co-op.
As for physical games, New Super Mario Bros is a must (as long as you like Mario platformers). Need For Speed: Most Wanted is a really fun racing game, and I think it's the best-looking Wii U game out right now. Sonic All-Stars Racing is good if you're looking for something like Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing (your car transforms into a plane or boat during races). I've only played the demo, but I have the full game coming in the mail.
Speaking of which, Amazon has a sale on pretty much every Wii U game right now. For the ones I mentioned:
Thanks for your detailed response! I really appreciate the link you put for the LAN adapter as well.
The screen protector seems like a really good idea. Any brands you would suggest? Amazon pulls this up, and it looks promising.
Again, thank you! Happy Holidays :)
do note that no wii u controllers (the gamepad and wii u pro controller) can be used in wii mode, and therefore cannot be used with wii games. you will need a wii remote and nunchuck, and possibly might want a classic controller pro to cover any controller needs for wii games. there are no current wii u bundles that come with any of that stuff, so make sure you pick up some of the aforementioned items if you plan to even boot up wii mode (the wii u doesn't let you start wii mode without a wii remote, so you have to have at least one of those). also, make sure that any wii remotes you get says "wii motion plus inside" on the bottom of the controller. while it is practically impossible to get the old kind, having one of the old kind would not allow you to fully enjoy some wii u games, such as nintendoland (a great multiplayer game that, while lacking online multiplayer, is great to have if your siblings ever come and visit). basically it needs to look like this, though colours may vary
also i would recommend the deluxe bundle, as it comes with a game, and a special promotion where you get 10% of all your eshop purchases on the wii u back to be used towards future eshop purchases.
depending where you live, i would highly recommend this bundle. it may not be available anymore, but i think it is the best deal. i haven't played zombiu myself, but i heard it is a pretty decent survival-horror game that really shows off the features of the wii u.
edit: Oh and for the ps4 and xbone games that aren't available for the Wii U, Ubisoft is avoiding it and said that Watch Dogs may be the last one, you can only have a cinematic experience in Assassins Creed Unity with other consoles. We also won't have Call of Duty any more.No minecraft and something that I actually miss is the last FIFA we had is 13. So a bunch of games are available for ps4 and xbone but not for the Wii U, I would go even further and say most of these consoles games aren't on the Wii U. But hey almost all of the best games of the Wii U are exclusives too.
What bundle you getting? The Refurbished Wii U Bundle With nintendoland (200$) is a great deal btw. Nintendoland is fantastic for groups. It DOES require wii remotes however. You can get a bunch of wii remotes and that will cover you for basically everything. They can be used for Wii U games and Wii games. Refurbished Wii Remote+ with Nunchuck are available for 25$ each.
Pro controllers are optional, and only work with Wii U games. They are a bit more on the pricey side, at 45$ at the cheapest unless you get used.
Mario Kart 8 or Super Mario 3D World would be great to start with for groups. Mario Kart 8 does do split screen, and with four players it can be hard to see if you have a smaller tv. Between those two, nintendoland, and smash that will keep you occupied for parties for quite awhile.
You know how the Nunchucks plug into the Wii Remotes? Well there's also Classic controllers and Gamecube controllers that also plug into the Wii Remotes.
Here's a couple of examples. The Gamecube one is a third party controller but for Mario Kart and Smash it feels great, and it's also compatible with any games that use the Wii U Pro controller.
The Nintendo-made Classic Controller was originally for the Wii, but it still works on the Wii U for most games.
Smash Brothers purists are going to crap all over this advice because they only accept the Official Nintendo GameCube Controller & Adapter as a viable device, but you guys aren't playing tournaments, it's just some kids and family coming over to play Nintendo.
These controllers are much easier for a new player to understand than the Nunchuck/Wii Remote combo, and they are relatively cheap. Certainly much cheaper than the official Nintendo GameCube controllers and adapter, and cheaper (although not as perfect) as the Wii U Pro controller.

Did you set it as the default connection in wiiu settings?
Other ideas:
The number one thing I recommend is to get a wired network adapter. I grabbed one of them off Amazon for like $10 and haven't regretted it.
With ZombiU, you'll have to go into the game settings and tell it to pump the sound out of the controller. You will have to use both the controller and monitor to play the game though.
With MH3U, after you update the game, you can go into the settings and enable Type 2 for the controller for off-screen play. This will make all the audio for the game come out of the controller, and the controller will mirror the monitor. You can turn off the monitor and just use the controller, or you can use the monitor and not look at the controller, whichever is more convenient for you. (With Type 1, the monitor will show the game and the controller will show some touchscreen options, sorta like you're playing a giant 3DS. I forget if audio comes out of the controller in this case or not.)
Btw, I recommend using some nice headphones with the gamepad, as well as setting the sound output for the gamepad to surround.
I've heard that 3rd party network adapters like that one work with both PC and Wii/U/Switch. Is this true? I'd love to have the option for the consoles and my MacBook since the newer models don't have a CATV port.
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. :)
I understand what you mean, and I'm not going to pitchfork you. Here are some games that I think a 9 year old would like, and ones that I enjoy as well.
Any Legend of Zelda and Mario ones are good too.
Sounds like maybe you're trying to save some cash by getting the basic model. If you can find it in stock, cool. If not, I would encourage you to wait for the Nintendo official refurbished models to come back in stock.
In any case, now that the DDP is no longer active, there are fewer differences between a basic and deluxe model. Sometimes deluxe models are still a better deal due to bundled games, but in any case I would recommend you pick up a cradle/stand combo, which the Basic models lack.
Also, if you're getting an external hard drive, be sure that it has an external power supply (not bus-powered) or you also purchase a USB Y-adapter or USB Y-cable (USB 3.0 or 2.0 depending on the model of hard drive being used.) Only one of the Wii U's USB ports cannot provide enough power for a hard drive, so a Y-cable or -adapter will allow you to power it with two ports at once (again, assuming it's bus-powered. Won't need y-cables or -adapters with an external power supply.)
Good luck!
To save you a little time, you can go straight to the section on controllers in the faq: https://www.reddit.com/r/wiiu/wiki/faq#wiki_controllers
To give you an idea of a specific case, Mario Kart 8 has a flying (gliding, actually) part where you steer with motion control even if you've been using the thumbsticks for steering. I've read people saying that the motion control for MK8 works exactly the same with the Motion Plus as with the classic wiimote, but I don't know for sure.
My guess is that friends are going to prefer to have a pro controller for driving, unless they are already used to tilt control for steering the car. Although, if someone's really good relative to other people, it might be fun to have them handicapped by having to use tilt control to steer.
Also there's a bridge for Smash for the hardcore that want to use GameCube controllers on it. http://www.amazon.com/Super-Smash-GameCube-Adapter-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ1FI Just to let you know some of the options.

> Pikmin 3
http://amzn.com/B0050SWBAE
Surprisingly Pikmin 3 is the most, but $39 isn't bad for a new release and all are under the $59 price point. I use Amazon for the going rate because who in their right mind would pay $59.99 at walmart or best buy for something they can get from Amazon with free shipping and no tax for less?
>I wish I was able to charge the gamepad using the system itself.
3rd party option or this
> hooking up a sensor bar and trying to use that on the plane is a bit.. untenable
Hold B while starting up the Wii U, you will go straight to Wii mode without needing to select anything using a wii mote, then the gamepad has a built in sensor bar (around the camera), so you can use motion controls with just the gamepad - no sensor bar required. You can also order a classic controller pro, wii classic controller, mayflash adapter with a gamecube controller, or a knock off - all of which plug directly in to a Wii mote, but let you play with a more standard control option.
>I can't wait for this (if it's still true)! I'd love playing Mario Kart 8 with my wife when we're without a TV.
Just get 2 other controllers and switch the gamepad to display the race instead of the race/map/horn/items etc. then it's just a tiny TV
I bought one of these adapters… http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_knmEub0MM4JNF
I've been using my new Smash Bros. GameCube controller to play Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, and Super Mario Sunshine in HD in Dolphin on my computer. But it also works in Virtual Console games and stuff too. It's pretty nice.
I have found a great alternative to the official Rocketfish Wii U bag, if you can find one at Marshalls or TJ Maxx it should cost around $25 (unfortunately $55 on Amazon), and I also picked up the Gamepad controller protector on Amazon for $15. This combo works really well together, and you can fit all necessary components, as well as 10+ games and 4 Wii controllers easy!

Energizer made one: https://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Station-Wii-U-Nintendo-6304900/dp/B00A878J5I
I own it, but it honestly doesn’t work super well.
all n64 vc games on the virtual wii need the classic controller pro. you can use the official ones, hori battle pads, or the pdp ones. if you install nintendont on the vwii you can use wiiU pro controllers, ps3, or ps4 controllers or the usb game cube adapters. all of them on the wiiu require a full pro controller of any gen (so non wiimote)
|
you can also inject roms so long as you own one game with that emulator. so if a game is not on the wiiU but you have it you can use caffeine on the current firmware to hack any rom into virtual console.
|
edit- there is also this guy from mayflash that will make your gamecube controllers plug into a wiimote and work as classic controller pro https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1469665411&sr=8-3&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter , mayflash also sells this guy that is better than the nintendo smash game cube adapter https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469665411&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter
edit2- if you plan on playing online you need the lan adapter as well, there are lots of 3rd party for that as well since you only need the same chipset (ASIX AX88772)
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is not for everybody, due to its difficulty, and pace, but if you are one of the blessed few who can give it a few hours to draw you in, you will have a dirt cheap game with hundreds of hours of gameplay.
http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Hunter-Ultimate-Nintendo-Wii-u/dp/B009EWHKAI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1420068349&sr=1-1&keywords=monster+hunter
If you have friends, it's a great multiplayer co op game (online, not same screen co op).
The game pad turns off when you switch to Wii mode.
You will need the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuck to play the classic Wii games but, the classic Wii remote will work as well if you already own that. In addition, I'd also recommend grabbing a classic controller if you plan on playing Wii games like Super Smash Bros Brawl as the Wii U Pro Controller will not work.
There is an official forum list here of compatible external hard drives, but I haven't put much of a dent in mine yet so, you may want to hold off.
Typical file sizes for older SNES games seem to be in the 20-30 MB range.
From what I can gather, the Wii DDR game supports classic controllers. You can hook GameCube port peripherals to WiiMotes with this adapter (Warning!: These adapters only seem to work with original WiiMotes, not MotionPlus WiiMotes, so be warned!).
I own three of these adapters myself and they work quite well for using GameCube controllers as classic controllers in other games, so they might work for this as well! Good luck!
I think for now, people shouldn't be worried. Amazon shipping is pretty solid. If you're worried about your shipments not getting sent out yet, it might be because you're in an area closer to a fulfillment center, where they can afford to hold off on your shipment, and instead focus on getting out the packages that are farther away. I wouldn't even worry if by midnight tonight they're not shipped yet. (An example: I recently ordered something for next day shipment. I live in the Los Angeles area and we have a fulfillment center in a city over. The package didn't actually ship out until 1:30PM and made it to me by the 9PM deadline (only 8 hours!))
Also, it also seems like all Vlad did was look up the Adapter on the actual Amazon.com website (not like any employee backend or something-- he says, "I looked on the site..."), where it is indeed out of stock. BUT It's probably listed as out of stock because they've all been pre-ordered (I mean, it's not like they were giving them out before release day, so how could they otherwise run out? The other possibility is that they never had them at all... which is pretty unlikely). I'd say if you got your preorder in before they went out of stock, you're probably fine.
I just wanted to say this before people cancel their orders when it might not be necessary to. I'm ready to eat crow if wrong, but yeah. Relax.
You could get an 8bitdo controller & wireless receiver. It would be cheaper than getting a classic or classic pro controller. Dunno how good they are tho.

If you do get an adapter, mayflash is the best choice. They make quality products from what I've seen & heard. I bought 2 of their products so far & both work perfectly
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YH3NWTW/?coliid=I2OKHZK98QFOVE&colid=26J97PDZ82A8W&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
This exactly. The WiFi is spotty at best, honestly I'm starting to hate WiFi in general. This is what I use and it works great. Hopefully you find a solution.
There's only one game in Nintendo Land that requires a Nunchuk, but it's one of the most fun (it's the Metroid one). The rest only need Wii Remotes (be sure you buy ones with MotionPlus, though, as the Zelda game requires it).
For Brawl, you can use either a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuk (my personal favorite), Wii Remote + Classic Controller, or a Gamecube controller. There are no Gamecube controller ports on the Wii U, though, so you'd have to use an adapter.
Mario Kart Wii can be controlled with a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuk, or Wii Remote + Classic Controller. I wouldn't recommend buying any Classic Controllers unless you plan to play a lot of Wii games. The newer Pro Controllers are better, but are incompatible with Wii games.
edit: Linked to a gamecube adapter.
Nintendo sells the official Wii U Gamepad Styluses here.
I purchased the Hori Wii U Precision Screen Filter from Amazon and am reasonably satisfied with it. It was pretty easy to apply, but it seems like there is a very small gap of exposed screen along at least one edge when you apply it. It is small enough for me not to care though, I just make sure dust doesn't gather there by cleaning it out every now and then.
Make sure you apply it in a bathroom or somewhere relatively dust-free so you don't have to deal with dust getting under the protector during application.
If he plans on playing alone, then controller wise you are good with just the Gamepad. If you want to play with them, or if he is the type to play with buddies at home then I would have to recommend a Pro Controller. There is also a season pass type of DLC where for $20 you get all of the DLC as it releases, but I would probably wait to see if he enjoys the game before buying that, plus the game without DLC is plenty big so he may not even want it. Here is the page on DLC for Hyrule Warriors if you want more info on that.
This Energizer 3x Charge Station is pretty much amazing. I've had it as long as I've had my Wii U and haven't had any issues. It's also super convenient having one place to dock my Gamepad and Wiimotes.
> I bought it for my family only a few days ago and we've already had to charge 3 controllers which is 1 too many for the Wii u to do
The Wii U has 2x USB ports in front of the console and 2x USB ports at the back. So you should be able to recharge four Wii U Pro Controllers at the same time.
If you didn't buy a bundle, then I can happily recommend the official Wii U cradle + stand to function as the GamePad's charging station. The other stand is nice too when you need to put the GamePad upright.
In Europe, the GamePad adapter specs:
Hope this helped.
1.) Yes this is normal.
2.) These are the best: http://www.amazon.com/Wii-U-Precision-Screen-Filter-Nintendo/dp/B009NRO1J2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397062252&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+wii+u
Have fun with your new console!!
This so much. I live in small town USA, which has very limited internet compared to a lot of the US (9mbps down/0.5mbps up), but use a LAN network adapter for my Wii U and rarely have issues during my matches in Splatoon or Smash 4 (the two Wii U games I primarily play online). It makes a very large difference, WiFi is no where near as reliable as a good old fashioned hard line for internet access. This is the LAN adapter I got (it was cheaper than the official stuff at the time) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and have been really happy with it. Says its for the Wii, but will work with the Wii U just fine.
To save some money on MK8 you can do what I did and go to Target and have them price match Amazon's current deal on the game. That's $48.61 for MK8 and the free Wind Waker download, great deal.
I'm looking at that one or this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1QTGXAMH2TVVP
I figure my link is probably "newer" technology, but that could be false. I just want to get the best one I can. Like I said, the wifi here is beyond bogus.
It's now $47.50 from a 3rd Party Vendor fullfilled by Amazon, which isn't too shabby either:
http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-3D-World-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B00DC7G0GG
Who was the seller on the super cheap one? Same 3rd Party guy?
If you'd like the screen protector, I HIGHLY recommend this one. I just got it and it's the best screen protector I've ever bought.
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-U-Precision-Screen-Filter-Nintendo/dp/B009NRO1J2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410413196&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+u+protector
The classic controller can be used for every Wii VC title, so you can use the classic controller for OOT and Majora's Mask and all of the NES, SNES, and N64 titles on the Wii VC.
(I prefer the [classic controller pro] (http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Black-Nintendo/dp/B002TLTBN0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398710109&sr=8-1&keywords=classic+controller+pro).)
Best bet for playing TP without motion control is playing it on Gamecube.
Have you tried SS? The motion control is beautiful, best use of it on the system, 1:1 movement of the sword. Could be wrong, but I don't think there is any way to play it without the motion control.
Hello!
With smash impending, I want to pick up a wifi adapter for my wii u. I've looked on http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu/accessories
but it doesn't list any, and Amazon has a ton of options:
this one is well reviewed http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Ethernet-Adapter-Nintendo-Port/dp/B003XWD1G2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415806712&sr=1-1&keywords=wii+u+ethernet+adapter
but I don't have any experience with HDE. Could anyone offer any input?
Thanks!
you can always buy one of these: http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU
They are similar to the gamecube pad, but plug into a wii remote. Or buy a third party gamecube adapter, or hunt for an official adapter.
Or just play SSB4 with a different control scheme :-)
This is the one I got, works great!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Does the same job as the official one so I see no benefit in getting the Nintendo branded one. I think they stopped making it since majority uses wireless, and there's ton of compatible third party adapters. Plus you can use this on a laptop or various other devices.
I got the Tomee one as well. It works pretty great. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ATJIOTG/
I personally got the PDP Silicon Jacket + Tomee Carrying Case + Hori Screen Protector and have been reasonably happy with the combination of the 3. The quality of PDP jacket does seem to be a bit inconsistent from the Amazon reviews, but a few people have posted tips on there about getting it to fit better. If it seems absolutely terrible, maybe you should just return it though?
well since you said it MH3U is about $24 on amazon which is a great deal
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EWHKAI/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2OUBUNXBRLM1J
Also I would recommend Little Inferno and Runner 2
If you don't want to use homebrew like someone else suggested (HID to VPAD) . Homebrew is super simple to setup btw, just put some files on your sd card and launch a web page on the wii u browser.

You could get this adapter https://www.amzn.com/B00BS520SG it plugs into a wii remote and the wii u reads it as a classic controller. I don't know why it has such poor reviews. I have one and it works perfectly fine.
I just bought this and I love it. As cheap as most wiimote only docks, comes with wiimote batteries, and eliminates the need for multiple docks. Also, having had the original Wii since launch day, I've aways found Wiimotes to be fucking battery monster. Not even being in use, they seem to drain batteries fast enough that I'm constantly having to recharge them every time I want to play.
We got an enegizer charging station (http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Station-Wii-U-Nintendo-6304900/dp/B00A878J5I) that does 2 wii-motes + gamepad. It's okay but not the best.
Firstly, you need to take the wrist straps off so they can sit properly in the cradle. This also means you can't charge them with the rubber sleeves on them.
Secondly, the lights are REALLY big and bright. We have our wiiU in our room and the lights from it are so bright it's like having a nighlight.
Here are some good pictures of the wii u mobo. Maybe one will show you the area you're interested in and you can look for traces and pads.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nintendo+Wii+U+Teardown/11796
Make sure you take pics and share your results on this project.
Our you could maybe get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BS520SG?pc_redir=1396705994
$39.99 new on Amazon w/ free shipping, and $29.69 used through Amazon Warehouse Deals, so if you add $5 to your order you get free shipping.
http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Station-Wii-U-Nintendo-6304900/dp/B00A878J5I
It's not a charger cord per se, but the convenience of just setting the Gamepad on the cradle at the end of the day is awesome. Plus, comes with 2 rechargable batteries for your wiimotes. Overall worth the $12.
No. The only legit Pro Controllers have the Wii U logo on them. For example...
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Pro-Controller-Black-Wii-u/dp/B00MUY0OFU/ref=lp_3075113011_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1413587673&sr=1-1
I know you might be inclined to purchase one of these knock-offs but I would highly recommend investing in a Nintendo Pro Controller. First of all it will be covered under Nintendo warranty, and you can always send it in if it needs to be fixed. And the authentic Pro Controller has an 80 hour battery life when fully charged. They are completely worth purchasing. Save your money and buy the real deal.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00A878J5I?cache=418fbe5ee6ee3e8238d08e14da97af29&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&qid=1406651092&sr=8-24#ref=mp_s_a_1_24
This one works great. I own it and the batteries last sooo long... Also it seems to keep going on sale for 11.99 from time to time so I would wait but it's the best bang for your buck when it's at that price.
Also sorry I can't hyperlink.. On a mobile version so yea
You can always get a wiimote adaptor to use whatever controller you want (since these will be read as a classic controller.
Wiimote to Gamecube Controller: http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG
Wiimote to N64 Controller adapter:

I haven't used the N64 but my friend has a gamecube one and I used it to clear through most of DK64
Or a Brand Flash Drive 128gb ~ $25 - $50 amazon and ebay
EDIT: For $56.99 you can get a 1TB (~960gb) HDD but you need a Y cable which is $6 more ($63 semi-total for HDD)
Have a great day!
Links:
Y-Cable, HDD
and the FlashDrive
If you don't mind having to connect it to a wiimote, I'd suggest a Hori Battlepad. I picked one up last week and it works great. The best part is that you can use it with the Wiiv. I still plan on getting the adapter since I have 4 GC controllers from back in the day, but this definitely will help until they get stocked.
To be honest, just about any external hard drive you get should be fine. The price difference between a 1TB and a 2TB is so small that it shouldn't be a factor.
I got one of the WD Passports and it works great. It doesn't use external power, just a USB 3.0 cable, but I got a USB Y-adaptor from Amazon and haven't had any issues.
I purchased OOT on my Wii U as well and while the Pro Controller does work fine, I struggled with it because I am so familiar with that game on the N64 controller. I purchased this controller that's modeled after the GameCube controller and it has been MUCH better for OOT. You need a Wii Remote to plug it in to.
I think it is better for a couple reasons, namely:
That's just my preference -- I'm new to the Wii U and still more comfortable with the retro games, so I tend to gravitate towards items that are similar to old controllers. The Pro Controllers is certainly fine with OOT, but if you find yourself struggling with the R Stick as the C Buttons maybe check out the controller I recommended.
No, it's in the living room/TV area but we live in an apartment, which isn't small, but the living room is next to the bedroom. No issues whatsover. It does cut off if I'm in the other room which is further away from the living room.
My other tips regarding the Gamepad would be to buy a storage case like this, this awesome screen protector which has the best application processes I have ever seen and maybe extra styluses, though I haven't done that. The case and screen protector will help a lot against dust and scuffs.
I am sure you've looked into Wii U data storage options?
EDIT: The screen protector seems to be out of stock for now. You can look for a different one but I can only vouch for that one because I use it.
I was having trouble with the Wii u not connecting to college internet. I went out and bought a ethernet to usb from Bestbuy and started getting the "plug in the Wii LAN adapter message. I found out it only takes certain adapters for some reason. I got this one off of Amazon and it works out perfectly.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00484IEJS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hope it all works out for you!
The combination of nerf armor and the hori gamepad screen protector have kept the gamepad in ptretty good shape considering that my children actively try to break pretty much everything in our house.
The screen is durable, but it does scratch easier than you might expect. That's why I got the screen protector.
Get this one.
Its amazing. Put one on when I opened my wiiu.
Not a single bubble or spec of dust due to its unique mounting method.
Can't even tell its on there and it give me a ton of peace of mind.
It's a wireless controller for the WiiU. You can play almost any game on this system with this instead of the gamepad. The battey life is incedible and people say it's the best controller on any system.
Here's an Amazon link
I just bought these three items to expand my Wii U storage. It works great! Load times are marginally faster in Smash
Internal memory 37.7sec load time
SSD 35.6sec load time
External drive enclosure
SSD
USB Y-cable
Link for the lazy
I picked one of these up 2 weeks ago when they were in stock, and I love the system so much! I got MK8 refurbished too and it works great, and came with the case. I now have DKC:TF and SSB4 also, but still trying to find the elusive Pikmin 3 hard copy.
For everyone who got the refurbished Wii U: Buy this cradle and holder on Amazon for $5! It doesn't come with the refurbished model, and it's currently 75% off!
Also, refurbished Mario Kart 8 is back in stock, and this time it comes with a Wii Remote Plus and a Wii Wheel!
For the majority of people, Wi-Fi is good enough, even if they might be in a situation that Ethernet would be easy enough to set up. Really, it's just a design decision. Less stuff in the system, less to pay for, and cheaper to produce. It helps that most people would use Wi-Fi anyway.
As for using Ethernet, you'll want a USB Ethernet adapter. Just about any of them work, provided they don't require an extra driver to be installed. I've been using this one for a few months now without issue. Good and fast too. Once you've got one, go to your system settings and change to a wired connection.
I bought one on Amazon for $15 and it works perfectly fine. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00484IEJS/ref=pd_aw_sims_4?pi=SS115&simLd=1
I recommend the hori battle controllers
They're pretty easy to find, and only $25. The pdp ones work too.
If you're dead-set on a nintendo-brand classic controller, get the classic pro, and you'll have to get them through amazon or ebay, it'll run around 25-30 shipping included.
When I saw it at GS, it was clear to me that it wasn't a Wii U Pro Controller, but an all-in-one Classic Controller that didn't require you to tether to a Wiimote.
I upvoted you because I guess a lot of people must be confused by this, but I never for a moment thought this was supposed to be a Wii U Pro Controller.
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Classic-Controller-Pro-Black-Nintendo/dp/B002TLTBN0
It's been a "Pro" controller for the Wii much longer than it has for the Wii U.
I don't think it's misleading at all. Look at the box. It clearly states:
And it also has bluetooth and works with Android.
It also clearly states on their website:
http://interworks-usa.com/index.php/products/view/19
>The Controller Pro U does not function as a Nintendo Pro Controller.

It will work even if its 3rd party. Its a pretty basic/common adapter

Super Smash Bros. GameCube Adapter for Wii U https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3LQ1FI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_EFf0CbQBJE3EH
I got the $200 refurbished deluxe system right after E3 and I have loved every minute of it. The system looked brand new and it works perfectly. The only thing it doesn't have is the gamepad stand/cradle set, but you can get it really cheap on Amazon now.
This is very cheap but I would recommend something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A878J5I/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So you can charge Wiimotes too.
I got the Amazon Basics Camera Back Pack and it holds it all.http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DSLR-Laptop-Backpack-interior/dp/B00CF5OGP8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1427151907&sr=8-2&keywords=amazon+basics+camera+backpack
I also got the Tomee GamePad case to protect it while in the backpack. http://www.amazon.com/Tomee-Wii-Protective-GamePad-Nintendo-U/dp/B00ATJIOTG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427151953&sr=8-1&keywords=tomee+gamepad+case
I'm a little OCD and also got myself spare GP and WiiU power transformers so I don't need to disconnect any power behind the entertainment center
I am not sure but I bought this one here and it works great.
I use
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CI3BLPA/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_awdm_uvIxwb8NV3SGQ
and I got a Y cable so that the power draw isn't a issue.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005M0ICG2/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_awdm_zwIxwbVZJQE8M
It's small and I love that I got this thing to death. Being able to just download a game when I want it and not worry about space has been great.
One more question for you: is the screen protector different than just a screen filter?
I'm assuming you mean this:
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-U-GamePad-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B009UONG26/ref=pd_sim_vg_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=15H1018YZ4N40RQS6ECK
But does that cover the screen as well? Or do I need to also purchase one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NRO1J2/ref=s9_simh_bw_p63_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_r=1HJ0BMTCVXC17F97N0QF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1909107822&pf_rd_i=3075112011
Thanks in advance for any insight!
You can get it on amazon.
Edit:
It's the second result when you search mayflash on amazon
Here's the link
Edit 2: Sorry if that isn't the one everyone is looking for. I only saw the original listing a few days ago and was just trying to be helpful
No, but these work. They plug into your Wii Remote and make the system think your GameCube controllers are Classic controllers. No rumble, but everything else works fine.
If you look you can usually find them on eBay for about $17 a pair. Also good if you have a lot of N64 games on the Wii U you want to play.
There's also some addional options you can choose the wii classic pro and classic contollers connect to the wii remote like a nunchuck and are much cheaper. I've found them at pawn shops for around 5 bucks.
There is also the Hori Battlepad which looks like a gamecube controller but plugs in like a classic and a Mayflash Gamecube to Wii remote adapter
I have one. It's pretty cool. It works. It's super fast. You can probably go for a third party one though. Nintendo claims only theirs works, but this one is the one I have, and it works just dandy
The GCN Controller Adapter is made to work with any regular-old GCN controllers, whether they were brand new ones release along with Smash, or nasty-ass crusty ones you've had for 14 years without cleaning.
There's a bunch of knockoffs that popped up because the official one was seriously unavailable for a while. The Mayflash should work fine and work just the same as the original - I haven't heard anybody complain about the adapter.
The GCN Adapter only works with Smash. It doesn't even work with stuff in Wii mode! If you're not going to buy an official GCN controller, you could always buy a HORI Battle Pad, which is more versatile (since it works like a Classic Controller) and is better quality than the janky-ass controllers you currently have your eye on.

Working like a charm!
This adapter says it works for both Wii and Wii U. So I can use gamecube controllers to play both Brawl and Smash 4? Buy two of these and two gcn controllers and I'm good to go for multiplayer?
Pretty sure you can do that already by using the wii menu on your wiiu. Also you guys should know about this. It's a little buggy but works really well for most games.
Okay so I can't seem to find the one I originally linked you to on Amazon, but I did find this PS2 Controller to Wii Adapter and this Gamecube Controller to Wii Adapter that you could try out. Both seem to have decent reviews on Amazon.
I have not personally used these, but their Wii U Pro Controller Adapter has gotten some glowing reviews & impressions from those that use it, so the company as a whole is probably legit.
This is your best bet:
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=pd_sim_21_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41giZlc9SoL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0DWVCXPECGA4T3PACNET
Makes the system read the controller as a Classic Controller through the Wiimote. I personally hate the concept because I hate having the Wiimote as an anchor and using batteries etc etc but in terms of achieving said goal, it'll do the job. This is how people have been using GC controllers to play Brawl on the Wii U. Reviews on Amazon seem to indicate it works well.
Just wanted to confirm that this did indeed do the job. I purchased the exact same wired adapter over the weekend and it has increased my online enjoyment tenfold.
Here's a link to the USA one
My wii U wireless used to work great then it became intermittent and eventually would only would connect for a short time once in a while. It was not a signal or configuration issue. I was able to run a wired connection to it and bought this utechsmart adapter and the internet is rock solid since. Cheaper than sending in for repair.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00
the usb cable that comes with the wii u is meant to be plugged into the wall outlet. not in the box. and there are stands where you can put your controllers. like this http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Station-Wii-U-Nintendo-6304900/dp/B00A878J5I one. and you get a http://www.amazon.com/Wii-GamePad-Stand-Cradle-Nintendo-U/dp/B009AFLXTS with the wii u so use that. better tthan pluggin in the usb cable all the time
I personally have one. It's definitely way more comforting to use than wireless. I believe most people have this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this one
I would recommend getting the Japanese one off amazon. It works perfectly on all Wii U's and the price tends to drop more often than the American one. (provided you're in America) It was on there a couple weeks ago for 38 bucks.
You could get something like this adapter and plug your GC controller in assuming you have one: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483805497&sr=8-1&keywords=gamecube+wiimote+adapter
Or the Hori Battle Pad (Which isn't as good as a real GC controller but still nice), both are plugged in through your wiimote to act as "unofficial" classic controllers. So you can use a GC controller on any game that allows a Classic Controller.
As for an actual 64 Controller, that'd be pretty difficult but I think the GC controller is fundamentally better.
Is this the only place I can order the GCN adapter for the WiiU (for Smash)? Amazon has a placeholder date which concerns me. Does anyone know where I can get the controllers at launch so that I can download the game in peace?
Haven't personally used one, but i was planning on getting one for a while to deal with my school's lack of wifi. these both seem like a good options:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F41TWAO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2IP7QSC5EI0LN&coliid=I3U0N9KMYHCT96&psc=1

You could also use a USB Y cable. That way it draws power from the second USB port as well. Just make sure it is the right one that will fit the port on your hard drive.
Actually I have an engerizer station, but this is a brand I trust.
You can buy other adapters...
I use this one: Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN Wired Network Adapter for Macbook, Chromebook, Windows 8.1 and Earlier, Surface Pro, Wii, Wii U, Linux, and Specific Android Tablets (ASIX AX88772 chipset) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00484IEJS/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_fPCqub01TFGA4
Works great!
You can get a white one for $40 from Japan. I was also able to order it with free shipping and it came in just a week.
Don't be fooled by the $20 ones from China, though. Always look at reviews, they're most likely fakes. The one I got works excellent, though. Even on an American Wii U.
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-controller-shiro-WUP---RSWA-nintendo/dp/B009AP2518/ref=sr_1_5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1412436655&sr=1-5&keywords=wii+u+pro+controller

I live in Canada and I just bought this one a week ago for my new Wii U; it works perfectly. I have had no problems with it and it works right out of the box, plug-and-play. Made my connection much better for Smash Bros.
If this is the one you are referring to: http://www.amazon.ca/HDE%C2%AE-Ethernet-Adapter-Nintendo-Port/dp/B003XWD1G2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420521583&sr=8-1&keywords=ethernet+hde+wii+u
As long as it says it is specifically compatible with the Wii U, which it does (and so do the reviews), then you should be fine to get this one too. I can just personally vouch for the Plugable Technologies one.
I want to order off Amazon, but concerned that I won't get it on launch day. I believe in the past the Amazon page will read 'guaranteed launch date delivery' or something similar yeah?
Link: http://www.amazon.com/Super-Smash-GameCube-Adapter-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ1FI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421884180&sr=8-1&keywords=gamecube+adapter
BUT I tried to "add to cart" and it didn't actually add anything.... Anyone else have luck?
EDIT: out of stock
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00YH3NWTW
These are the ones you want. They lock into the bottoms of the wiimotes with a switch, have a turbo and LZ button on the adaptor, also have an indicator light, and you get two for $11 each. The other wired one is really only better if you want to use it for the NES classic as I'm sure these wont fit on well.
You can get one off Amazon for $5. Definitely worth the convenience.
I'm pretty happy with this setup.
Also, don't buy into the lithium disaster hype, I'll take lithium over NI-MH any day, especially when it comes to heavily regulated devices like we use.
The USB adapter only works with Smash 4. However, I have one of these, which essentially makes the Gamecube controller into a classic controller, and it seems to work pretty well.
In Canada? It's only 1c less than $40, but it's better than $55 MSRP: http://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-Wii-Pro-Controller-Black/dp/B00MUY0OFU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451599293&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+u+pro
Your best option is to use a wired connection.
[USB Lan Adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Ethernet-Network-Adapter-Chromebook/dp/B00484IEJS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491928220&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+u+usb+lan)
I've bought this one a few years ago and it works perfectly: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00484IEJS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I think every ethernet adapter with the same chipset (ASIX AX88772 chipset) will work with Wii U.
edit: formatting
This is the one I have, it's worked perfectly for me for over a year: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005M0ICG2/

http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG i think this is the best choice
I bought this one back in June. Fairly cheap (the white colors cost less for whatever reason) and it's still working like a charm 6 months later.
Let's just use amazon prices:
Wii U Deluxe w/ NSMBU & NSLU - $293.87
Wii U Pro COntroller - $40.99
Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition - $15.99
Assassin's Creed 4 - $25.49
Madden 13 - $11.99
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - $41.40
Super Mario 3D World - $50.66
Assassin's Creed 3 - $14.61
007 Legends - $9.95
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - $43.99
Black Ops 2 $12.49
ZombiU - $14.99
That brings us to a total of $576.42.
He could have bought the games on discount from Toys R Us which has many discounted games plus buy one get one 60% off.
Also could have gotten the buy 2 get 1 free at Target a week ago. YOu could also price match that sale, all though many stores were hesitant to do that.
For Monster Hunter, u are playing the Wii version, if you want a good quality one you need to play the WiiU version which is 200x better.
There you go:

and its on the eshop but i dont know if its for 21$ too
I have this and it works great:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use this. Though now it's really pricy for some reason... when I bought it it was only $10. Now $55. Great case though, maybe it will go down in price later.
http://www.amazon.com/Tomee-Wii-Protective-GamePad-Nintendo-U/dp/B00ATJIOTG
This one from Amazon has been working great so far.
This is the HDD that I have been using for 9 months without issue. With this y cable. Works perfect.
I keep a protective cover and a screen protector on mine. Those are marked up prices on Amazon and I paid much less at the time, so I'm sure you could fine similar cases and screen protectors for cheaper. Otherwise just take care of it and most likely you'll be fine. Worst case scenario I'm sure Nintendo will be doing repairs on them for quite a while, it'll just be pricey.
The cheapest option will be a Wii Mote Plus, it's identical in function to the Wii mote with motion plus adapter attached. You can get them used or refurbished for 15 dollars or less.

The Wii Pro Controller is my personal favorite, it's similar to an xbox 360 controller and has really great battery life. These go for about 50, but sometimes are on sale for 40ish. Here is a link.
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Pro-Controller-Black-Wii-u/dp/B00MUY0OFU/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1452522197&sr=1-1&keywords=Wii+U+Pro+Controller
This is the page I ordered from. Seems to be the usual Amazon listing for the game. It gives me the options to purchase it for any platform. However the seller was listed on my receipt as "FRONTIER HOBBY SHOP" and "fulfilled by Amazon."
Edit: Have you seen/heard of the Sonic Nintendo Select variant previously? Any info on it?
Yeah, there is a Wii Pro Controller that works. But you plug it into the Wii Remote for it to work. After that it's a normal controller. It's very similar to a PS2 controller but it doesn't have clicky sticks. It comes in 3 colors, so it's up to you which one to pick. If you want a white one, buy it here. If you want a black one, buy it here. If you want a golden one, buy it here. There is always the Wii U Pro Controller which comes in both white and black, but that only works on Wii U games and not Wii games.
I did find these. They say that the are exactly the same as the US version, but from Japan. I read through a bunch of reviews and they say it is good.

I've heard people have had success with this one.
There are some adapters that allow you to plug your Gamecube controller into a Wii Remote, which should be compatible with games that support the Classic Controller. I had one so I could play Brawl on the Wii U before Smash 4 came out.
Amazon Link to the one I have
This is true, I just searched them out. While not in stock on a lot of sites, I found them on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Wii-PRO-controller-shiro-WUP-A-RSWA-nintendo/dp/B009AP2518/
Yes. Amazon has the adapter listed for 20$, however the date is still TBA.
I found an ethernet adapter for a good price here do you think this would work? (i'm not an expert in this)
In answer to your question about the LAN adapter, you will need one that is specifically compatible with the Wii U but it doesn't need to be Nintendo's own. I just bought one from Amazon that works just fine and it's currently going for about $15 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CBD2X5E/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_UF6Fub19W4K4A

I just got this one off amazon. Works great. Speedtest on my laptop was insane
As long as the controllers work for the game itself, you can use them in any combination. Note, however, that you'll need the GameCube Controller Adapter for the GC controllers. If you have a lot of GC controllers or friends who have them, you can technically have 8 GC controllers for 8-player mode assuming that you have two GC controller adapters.
Well a charge kit for a gamepad and two WiiMotes is $12 on Amazon right now...with prime. I suggest buying that.
BAM!
Here are some Amazon links if you want:
Y-Cable
External Hard Drive. I use the older version of this one and it has held up. The reviews for this version say it works as well.
They're "by Nintendo", which means Nintendo is the manufacturer. The controllers I'm seeing are either sold by Amazon or a third party vendor. This, for instance, is sold by a third party vendor, but it's an official Pro controller.
Does the Y-cable look something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Micro-B-External-Seagate-Toshiba-Enclosure/dp/B005M0ICG2/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2SJ1CEFI6X0Q2&keywords=y+cable&qid=1563764347&s=electronics&sprefix=y+ca%2Celectronics%2C171&sr=1-5
This one is 12 dollars and works great. It charges the gamepad and 2 wii motes.
