They support every feature the PS360 has + off screen play, a co-driver mode which helps you change your environments, DLC included, further draw distances and higher res textures (they used the PC textures, not the PS360 ones) so if you don't already have it, it's a great game and under $20.

1.) Neither, You need to use either Wiimote (normal or plus), Wiimote+Nunchuk, or Wii Classic Controller (or CCPro). I recommend the Wii Classic Controller Pro. However, you can use the Gamepad as a screen for your Wii games.

2.) Seeing as you haven't played a game since the Gamecube era, and having no idea of what type of games you enjoy except SSB, I can barely recommend games, but: Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Sonic: Lost World, The Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, New Super Mario Bros. U (and Luigi U), maybe Lego City: Undercover or Zombi U, and eventually Mario Kart 8.

3.) Injustice is a good game, though I believe the Wii U version doesn't have all the DLC/doesn't have the 'Ultimate Edition). Black Ops 2 is good if you enjoy Call of Duty post Modern Warfare 4. Neither games are 'elite/hardcore' in their respective genres (Fighting/FPS).

4.) I'd recommend the Wii U Pro Controller for most Wii U games that support it. There are some good Virtual Console titles on the Wii U eshop, like Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Megaman X, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Earthbound for SNES, and more recently Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion, and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror for GBA, with Golden Sun, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Yoshi's Island coming in the next week.

I, personally, find Shulk to be a tough character to learn. I think you'd benefit from trying out different characters; after all, it's always the same button combinations -- that's the beauty of smash.

Shulk is a slower character; I'd recommend learning with a medium speed character for all around damage and maneuverability. This game is about positioning and predicting the enemy; having a bulky character means you're constantly struggling with your own mobility rather than having time to think about positioning. Once you get a better understanding of the game, you would switch back to Shulk and have a deeper appreciation for his attack power.

Some good examples of medium-speed include Lucina, Mario, Zelda, Falco. They're really well rounded characters. My personal favorites in the game are Fox, Rosalina&Luma, Toon Link, Peach, Charizard, and Lucina; it goes to show that all weight-classes are viable and fun in their own regard. Since you already know the Counter ability, Lucina/Marth would be a decent place to start.

While some say it takes the joy out of it, the best way to get better is playing 1v1, no items, and a basic stage like Final Destination or Battlefield. It cuts out all the random things that happen.

Playing against a single computer and ramping up the difficulty is a good way to learn. You can mirror match, to see how a level 9 computer does certain moves/combos. Maybe you'll see them do something you don't already know, and you can try to mimic it, like "teching." From here, you can figure out which moves have a slower recovery (i.e. every time you use this one ability, you get hit... better not use that ability unless you know you can hit him with it). In time, playing against the same person/computer will improve your game.

As for controls, I know many friends that learned the Smash during Brawl, and play the game just fine using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck; in the end it's about personal preference and how you learned the game. Ideally, a GameCube controller has the perfect layout. To cut your expenses, you should be able to get (http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Mario-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E5ZU) for around $25 if you scope it out, which plugs into a Wii remote and is wired as a Classic Controller. If you don't, the GamePad layout is fine.

Finally, if 1v1, no-items, final destination just isn't fun for you, forget about it! Play to have fun, not to memorize combos. I spent 2-3 hours today with my brother learning Captain Falcon, laughing at trying to hit one-another with his side-air knee attack. Anytime I learned anything new about the character, he'd mimic it and vice versa until we just got better with the character as a whole.

I have 2 and I'm ordering 2 more. They are fantastic. Hook up either a wired controller or a wavebird base and it works great with either. No delay.

The Eshop is getting better week by week. The upgrade fee for $1.50 from Wii VC titles to Wii U VC titles is awesome because you get full tablet support once it's a Wii U supported game. Even if the game is not Wii U supported the games can be transferred and still played through the "Wii" app on the Wii U. They work just as easy as they did on Wii. I use my adapter to use GC controllers with them. Right now I'm Rolling through OoT and it's awesome. Beats the shit out of the Wii controller Nintendo offered before.

Go for it. More games are coming out in the coming weeks and months. I love my Wii U and ill never think twice about ever having it. I've convinced a few friends to pick one up as well :)

It's not quite a pro controller, but for me it's been just as good. I got the Mario branded Hori Battle pad, and I have really loved it. It's perfect for Mario Kart, and the second best thing for Smash (only the original GC controllers are better imo). I play pretty much everything with it except when motion controls are needed, then I just use the gamepad.

Super Mario 3D World

It's pretty long, it has a lot of tough bonus levels and I'm not one to 100% games but this is one that is fun to try it with! Tons of replay value and its also fun with friends.

Pikmin 3 is nice also... but you could get a few games like Mass Effect 3, Assassins Creed IV, and Monster Hunter for like $50 total.

I purchased two adapters on amazon and here's what I got.

Both are the same, inputs are only for OTHER Wii remote accessories. I'm so frustrated because I was excited to finally use my GC controllers. But anyway, I'm trying to ask for a replacement but Amazon doesn't let me and says it's only for standard refund. DAMMIT.

Has this happened to anyone? How did you handle it? I don't want to pay for returned shipping and I would REALLY like to receive replacements already instead of having to look online again and purchase two more. I didn't even know that they made these? The picture clearly shows a slot for GC controllers. But yeah, all help/advice appreciated.

EDIT: I didn't mean to give amazon any bad light, they gave me a full refund right away and I'm still going to buy another pair of adapters to use my GC controller. Didn't mean to rant so much, I just thought this unlucky fail was hilarious enough for reddit to see.

I actually just finished putting my two anti-4-year-old accessories on my GamePad last night. I can't speak about any of the products you listed, but here's my solution:

I went with the RocketFish Invisishell (got mine at Best Buy, $7.99 retail) to protect the GamePad itself. It seems pretty sturdy and covers most of the gamepad. Being clear was a big thing for me, so that you could still see the Hylian detailing on the limited edition GamePad. This particular shell also has room at the bottom so that it can still be docked (Hori makes a similar product, but it's twice as much and can't be docked).

For a screen protector I went with the Hori Precision Screen Filter (could only find this online, $7.99 retail) - it was fairly painless to apply, definitely didn't have any problems as far as air bubbles. I did have a little problem with dust, and will definitely say that if you get any dust under it to flip the instructions over and read the section on removing dust. I didn't and ended up with twice as much dust under it as a result. I'll also note that they make a kind of bundle with a screen protector, stylus, and screen cloth - apparently this has a different protector that isn't as good, so go with the one that is screen protector only.

As an aside, I really don't get why people downvote these kinds of questions. Had the same thing happen when I asked for some input as well.

From the eshop, Runner 2 is a lot of fun. It's sort of a hybrid between a rhythm game and a sidescroller. Also I've heard good things about Trine 2. I've played Trine 1, which was awesome, and the sequel also supports 3-player co-op.

As for physical games, New Super Mario Bros is a must (as long as you like Mario platformers). Need For Speed: Most Wanted is a really fun racing game, and I think it's the best-looking Wii U game out right now. Sonic All-Stars Racing is good if you're looking for something like Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing (your car transforms into a plane or boat during races). I've only played the demo, but I have the full game coming in the mail.

1. all of the vc games so far on the wii u are from snes and nes. n64 and game boy advance are confirmed to be coming in the future, and while still a rumor, gamecube games are most likely to come at some point too (though probably still 2 or 3 years away from that). on the wii shop channel in wii mode (more on that in a sec), there are vc games from every nintendo CONSOLE prior to the gamecube, as well as some titles from turbrografx16, sega geneisis, sega master system, select arcade titles, commodore 64, msx and neo geo. for the wii u vc, you can view the selection from the nintendo eshop (the orange bag icon at the bottom of the wii u menu and in the home menu), and for the wii vc, they can be viewed in the wii shop channel found in wii mode. any virtual console games from either service have no online functionality whatsoever, except that the wii u vc games allow you to post comments and screenshots of the games to miiverse. there is NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER
   
   
2. all wii games and peripherals (balance board, wii remotes, wii remote pluses, etc) are fully compatable with the wii mode in the wii u (the wii mode is literally a wii emulator. booting it up allows you to do anything you could ever have done on the wii, except play gamecube games and use gamecube controllers), so yes, there is no compromise with the online functionality of the wii mode on wii u. you can play mario kart wii or smash or any game with online with your siblings no different than you could on a wii.
   
   
3. yes. if he has a wii and you have a wii u, then you can play wii games online with each other with no comprimises.
   
   
4. besides the gamecube related stuff, there are no advantages to getting a wii over a wii u. infact, from my experiences, playing wii games on the wii u when using the hdmi cable makes the wii games look better (though that could be me. i have seen some similar reports though from others, nothing confirmed). the only reason to buy a wii now is if you are into modding (which is a complicated affair and from your post it doesnt sound like you are). also, this way you will be prepared for all future nintendo games.
   
   do note that no wii u controllers (the gamepad and wii u pro controller) can be used in wii mode, and therefore cannot be used with wii games. you will need a wii remote and nunchuck, and possibly might want a classic controller pro to cover any controller needs for wii games. there are no current wii u bundles that come with any of that stuff, so make sure you pick up some of the aforementioned items if you plan to even boot up wii mode (the wii u doesn't let you start wii mode without a wii remote, so you have to have at least one of those). also, make sure that any wii remotes you get says "wii motion plus inside" on the bottom of the controller. while it is practically impossible to get the old kind, having one of the old kind would not allow you to fully enjoy some wii u games, such as nintendoland (a great multiplayer game that, while lacking online multiplayer, is great to have if your siblings ever come and visit). basically it needs to look like this, though colours may vary
   
   also i would recommend the deluxe bundle, as it comes with a game, and a special promotion where you get 10% of all your eshop purchases on the wii u back to be used towards future eshop purchases.
   
   depending where you live, i would highly recommend this bundle. it may not be available anymore, but i think it is the best deal. i haven't played zombiu myself, but i heard it is a pretty decent survival-horror game that really shows off the features of the wii u.

1. All the most hyped games accept 4 players including NSMBU, Smash Bros 4, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World and all those party games. All very kid and parent friendly, some a little bit more difficult than other.
   
   
2. The base console only comes with a gamepad, controllers are a big price changer (for me at least). I suggest buying the Wii Remote Plus controllers as most of the games use them. Alternatively there is the Pro Controller, it's very praised, with a huge battery life and basically it's a gamepad without the screen.
   
   
3. It's not as unpopular as expected, it depends mostly on the country, there's a huge fan base and at least I see a great future for it. You can check some of the Black Friday deals on this sub. Also Nintendo is getting it extremely right with it's exclusives, MK8 and Smash are awesome and for some "mature" games Bayonneta 2 have been very acclaimed. Next generation console is pretty far as they have just begin to launch all the main games for it.
   
   edit: Oh and for the ps4 and xbone games that aren't available for the Wii U, Ubisoft is avoiding it and said that Watch Dogs may be the last one, you can only have a cinematic experience in Assassins Creed Unity with other consoles. We also won't have Call of Duty any more.No minecraft and something that I actually miss is the last FIFA we had is 13. So a bunch of games are available for ps4 and xbone but not for the Wii U, I would go even further and say most of these consoles games aren't on the Wii U. But hey almost all of the best games of the Wii U are exclusives too.

What bundle you getting? The Refurbished Wii U Bundle With nintendoland (200$) is a great deal btw. Nintendoland is fantastic for groups. It DOES require wii remotes however. You can get a bunch of wii remotes and that will cover you for basically everything. They can be used for Wii U games and Wii games. Refurbished Wii Remote+ with Nunchuck are available for 25$ each.

Pro controllers are optional, and only work with Wii U games. They are a bit more on the pricey side, at 45$ at the cheapest unless you get used.

Mario Kart 8 or Super Mario 3D World would be great to start with for groups. Mario Kart 8 does do split screen, and with four players it can be hard to see if you have a smaller tv. Between those two, nintendoland, and smash that will keep you occupied for parties for quite awhile.

You know how the Nunchucks plug into the Wii Remotes? Well there's also Classic controllers and Gamecube controllers that also plug into the Wii Remotes.

Here's a couple of examples. The Gamecube one is a third party controller but for Mario Kart and Smash it feels great, and it's also compatible with any games that use the Wii U Pro controller.

The Nintendo-made Classic Controller was originally for the Wii, but it still works on the Wii U for most games.

Smash Brothers purists are going to crap all over this advice because they only accept the Official Nintendo GameCube Controller & Adapter as a viable device, but you guys aren't playing tournaments, it's just some kids and family coming over to play Nintendo.

These controllers are much easier for a new player to understand than the Nunchuck/Wii Remote combo, and they are relatively cheap. Certainly much cheaper than the official Nintendo GameCube controllers and adapter, and cheaper (although not as perfect) as the Wii U Pro controller.

Did you set it as the default connection in wiiu settings?

Other ideas:

• It's unlikely, but make sure you don't have mac address filtering enabled on the router. That would have prevented WPS from working, though.
  
• Do your 2.4 and 5ghz networks have the same name? Some devices don't like that, but I'm pretty sure the wiiu only has 2.4 anyway.
  
• If you can't get it working, I highly recommend just picking up one of these and connecting by ethernet because it'll work way better than 2.4ghz wifi anyway.

The number one thing I recommend is to get a wired network adapter. I grabbed one of them off Amazon for like $10 and haven't regretted it.

With ZombiU, you'll have to go into the game settings and tell it to pump the sound out of the controller. You will have to use both the controller and monitor to play the game though.

With MH3U, after you update the game, you can go into the settings and enable Type 2 for the controller for off-screen play. This will make all the audio for the game come out of the controller, and the controller will mirror the monitor. You can turn off the monitor and just use the controller, or you can use the monitor and not look at the controller, whichever is more convenient for you. Sounds like maybe you're trying to save some cash by getting the basic model. If you can find it in stock, cool. If not, I would encourage you to wait for the Nintendo official refurbished models to come back in stock.

In any case, now that the DDP is no longer active, there are fewer differences between a basic and deluxe model. Sometimes deluxe models are still a better deal due to bundled games, but in any case I would recommend you pick up a cradle/stand combo, which the Basic models lack.

Also, if you're getting an external hard drive, be sure that it has an external power supply (not bus-powered) or you also purchase a USB Y-adapter or USB Y-cable (USB 3.0 or 2.0 depending on the model of hard drive being used.) Only one of the Wii U's USB ports cannot provide enough power for a hard drive, so a Y-cable or -adapter will allow you to power it with two ports at once (again, assuming it's bus-powered. Won't need y-cables or -adapters with an external power supply.)

To give you an idea of a specific case, Mario Kart 8 has a flying (gliding, actually) part where you steer with motion control even if you've been using the thumbsticks for steering. I've read people saying that the motion control for MK8 works exactly the same with the Motion Plus as with the classic wiimote, but I don't know for sure.

My guess is that friends are going to prefer to have a pro controller for driving, unless they are already used to tilt control for steering the car. Although, if someone's really good relative to other people, it might be fun to have them handicapped by having to use tilt control to steer.

Hold B while starting up the Wii U, you will go straight to Wii mode without needing to select anything using a wii mote, then the gamepad has a built in sensor bar (around the camera), so you can use motion controls with just the gamepad - no sensor bar required. You can also order a classic controller pro, wii classic controller, mayflash adapter with a gamecube controller, or a knock off - all of which plug directly in to a Wii mote, but let you play with a more standard control option.

I've been using my new Smash Bros. GameCube controller to play Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, and Super Mario Sunshine in HD in Dolphin on my computer. But it also works in Virtual Console games and stuff too. It's pretty nice.

I have found a great alternative to the official Rocketfish Wii U bag, if you can find one at Marshalls or TJ Maxx it should cost around $25 (unfortunately $55 on Amazon), and I also picked up the Gamepad controller protector on Amazon for $15. I've never used one but the Charging Dock you linked to has one review... It's 1 out of 5 and the guy states that the contacts are near non-existent. However, this Youtube review seems to give it the thumbs-up. Although it doesn't accommodate the Motion+ addon for standard remotes or the rubberised sleeves.

Personally I'd stick with rechargeable AA batteries for the Wiimotes. At least you can change them when they degrade instead of having to buy replacement battery packs (assuming Nyko sells them separately).

all n64 vc games on the virtual wii need the classic controller pro. you can use the official ones, hori battle pads, or the pdp ones. if you install nintendont on the vwii you can use wiiU pro controllers, ps3, or ps4 controllers or the usb game cube adapters. all of them on the wiiu require a full pro controller of any gen (so non wiimote)

you can also inject roms so long as you own one game with that emulator. so if a game is not on the wiiU but you have it you can use caffeine on the current firmware to hack any rom into virtual console.

If you have friends, it's a great multiplayer co op game (online, not same screen co op).

You will need the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuck to play the classic Wii games but, the classic Wii remote will work as well if you already own that. From what I can gather, the Wii DDR game supports classic controllers. You can hook GameCube port peripherals to WiiMotes with this adapter (Warning!: These adapters only seem to work with original WiiMotes, not MotionPlus WiiMotes, so be warned!).

I own three of these adapters myself and they work quite well for using GameCube controllers as classic controllers in other games, so they might work for this as well! Good luck!

I think for now, people shouldn't be worried. Amazon shipping is pretty solid. If you're worried about your shipments not getting sent out yet, it might be because you're in an area closer to a fulfillment center, where they can afford to hold off on your shipment, and instead focus on getting out the packages that are farther away. There's only one game in Nintendo Land that requires a Nunchuk, but it's one of the most fun (it's the Metroid one). The rest only need Wii Remotes (be sure you buy ones with MotionPlus, though, as the Zelda game requires it).

For Brawl, you can use either a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuk (my personal favorite), Wii Remote + Classic Controller, or a Gamecube controller. There are no Gamecube controller ports on the Wii U, though, so you'd have to use an adapter.

Mario Kart Wii can be controlled with a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuk, or Wii Remote + Classic Controller. I wouldn't recommend buying any Classic Controllers unless you plan to play a lot of Wii games. The newer Pro Controllers are better, but are incompatible with Wii games.

I purchased the Hori Wii U Precision Screen Filter from Amazon and am reasonably satisfied with it. It was pretty easy to apply, but it seems like there is a very small gap of exposed screen along at least one edge when you apply it. It is small enough for me not to care though, I just make sure dust doesn't gather there by cleaning it out every now and then.

Make sure you apply it in a bathroom or somewhere relatively dust-free so you don't have to deal with dust getting under the protector during application.

If he plans on playing alone, then controller wise you are good with just the Gamepad. If you want to play with them, or if he is the type to play with buddies at home then I would have to recommend a Pro Controller. There is also a season pass type of DLC where for $20 you get all of the DLC as it releases, but I would probably wait to see if he enjoys the game before buying that, plus the game without DLC is plenty big so he may not even want it. This Energizer 3x Charge Station is pretty much amazing. I've had it as long as I've had my Wii U and haven't had any issues. It's also super convenient having one place to dock my Gamepad and Wiimotes.

The Wii U has 2x USB ports in front of the console and 2x USB ports at the back. So you should be able to recharge four Wii U Pro Controllers at the same time.

If you didn't buy a bundle, then I can happily recommend the official Wii U cradle + stand to function as the GamePad's charging station. The other stand is nice too when you need to put the GamePad upright.

I live in small town USA, which has very limited internet compared to a lot of the US (9mbps down/0.5mbps up), but use a LAN network adapter for my Wii U and rarely have issues during my matches in Splatoon or Smash 4 (the two Wii U games I primarily play online). It makes a very large difference, WiFi is no where near as reliable as a good old fashioned hard line for internet access. The classic controller can be used for every Wii VC title, so you can use the classic controller for OOT and Majora's Mask and all of the NES, SNES, and N64 titles on the Wii VC.

Have you tried SS? The motion control is beautiful, best use of it on the system, 1:1 movement of the sword. Could be wrong, but I don't think there is any way to play it without the motion control.

I just bought this and I love it. As cheap as most wiimote only docks, comes with wiimote batteries, and eliminates the need for multiple docks. Also, having had the original Wii since launch day, I've aways found Wiimotes to be fucking battery monster. Not even being in use, they seem to drain batteries fast enough that I'm constantly having to recharge them every time I want to play.

Firstly, you need to take the wrist straps off so they can sit properly in the cradle. This also means you can't charge them with the rubber sleeves on them.

Secondly, the lights are REALLY big and bright. We have our wiiU in our room and the lights from it are so bright it's like having a nighlight.

If you don't mind having to connect it to a wiimote, I'd suggest a Hori Battlepad. I picked one up last week and it works great. The best part is that you can use it with the Wiiv. I still plan on getting the adapter since I have 4 GC controllers from back in the day, but this definitely will help until they get stocked.

To be honest, just about any external hard drive you get should be fine. The price difference between a 1TB and a 2TB is so small that it shouldn't be a factor.

I got one of the WD Passports and it works great. It doesn't use external power, just a USB 3.0 cable, but I got a USB Y-adaptor from Amazon and haven't had any issues.

I purchased OOT on my Wii U as well and while the Pro Controller does work fine, I struggled with it because I am so familiar with that game on the N64 controller. I purchased this controller that's modeled after the GameCube controller and it has been MUCH better for OOT. You need a Wii Remote to plug it in to.

I think it is better for a couple reasons, namely:

• The C Stick is a better substitute for the C Buttons than the right joystick on the Pro Controller. It has notches built into it so it reduces error when using a specific directional button. The N64's C buttons are where you put items like your bow, slingshot, boomerang, etc so you'll be using them quite a bit.
  
• The location of the C Stick is also more comfortable.
  
• The N64 controller didn't have X and Y buttons, so it is nice that the X/Y buttons on the Hori Battle Pad are out of the way.
  
  That's just my preference -- I'm new to the Wii U and still more comfortable with the retro games, so I tend to gravitate towards items that are similar to old controllers. The Pro Controllers is certainly fine with OOT, but if you find yourself struggling with the R Stick as the C Buttons maybe check out the controller I recommended.
  
  

No, it's in the living room/TV area but we live in an apartment, which isn't small, but the living room is next to the bedroom. No issues whatsover. It does cut off if I'm in the other room which is further away from the living room.

My other tips regarding the Gamepad would be to buy a storage case like this, this awesome screen protector which has the best application processes I have ever seen and maybe extra styluses, though I haven't done that. The case and screen protector will help a lot against dust and scuffs.

For the majority of people, Wi-Fi is good enough, even if they might be in a situation that Ethernet would be easy enough to set up. Really, it's just a design decision. Less stuff in the system, less to pay for, and cheaper to produce. It helps that most people would use Wi-Fi anyway.

As for using Ethernet, you'll want a USB Ethernet adapter. Just about any of them work, provided they don't require an extra driver to be installed. I've been using this one for a few months now without issue. Good and fast too. Once you've got one, go to your system settings and change to a wired connection.

If you're dead-set on a nintendo-brand classic controller, get the classic pro, and you'll have to get them through amazon or ebay, it'll run around 25-30 shipping included.

When I saw it at GS, it was clear to me that it wasn't a Wii U Pro Controller, but an all-in-one Classic Controller that didn't require you to tether to a Wiimote.

No, but these work. They plug into your Wii Remote and make the system think your GameCube controllers are Classic controllers. No rumble, but everything else works fine.

If you look you can usually find them on eBay for about $17 a pair. Also good if you have a lot of N64 games on the Wii U you want to play.

There's also some addional options you can choose the wii classic pro and classic contollers connect to the wii remote like a nunchuck and are much cheaper. I've found them at pawn shops for around 5 bucks.

There is also the Hori Battlepad which looks like a gamecube controller but plugs in like a classic and a Mayflash Gamecube to Wii remote adapter

I have one. It's pretty cool. It works. It's super fast. You can probably go for a third party one though. Nintendo claims only theirs works, but this one is the one I have, and it works just dandy

The GCN Controller Adapter is made to work with any regular-old GCN controllers, whether they were brand new ones release along with Smash, or nasty-ass crusty ones you've had for 14 years without cleaning.

There's a bunch of knockoffs that popped up because the official one was seriously unavailable for a while. The Mayflash should work fine and work just the same as the original - I haven't heard anybody complain about the adapter.

The GCN Adapter only works with Smash. It doesn't even work with stuff in Wii mode! If you're not going to buy an official GCN controller, you could always buy a HORI Battle Pad, which is more versatile (since it works like a Classic Controller) and is better quality than the janky-ass controllers you currently have your eye on.

Pretty sure you can do that already by using the wii menu on your wiiu. Also you guys should know about this. It's a little buggy but works really well for most games.

Makes the system read the controller as a Classic Controller through the Wiimote. I personally hate the concept because I hate having the Wiimote as an anchor and using batteries etc etc but in terms of achieving said goal, it'll do the job. This is how people have been using GC controllers to play Brawl on the Wii U. Reviews on Amazon seem to indicate it works well.

Just wanted to confirm that this did indeed do the job. I purchased the exact same wired adapter over the weekend and it has increased my online enjoyment tenfold.

My wii U wireless used to work great then it became intermittent and eventually would only would connect for a short time once in a while. It was not a signal or configuration issue. Or the Hori Battle Pad (Which isn't as good as a real GC controller but still nice), both are plugged in through your wiimote to act as "unofficial" classic controllers. So you can use a GC controller on any game that allows a Classic Controller.

As for an actual 64 Controller, that'd be pretty difficult but I think the GC controller is fundamentally better.

You could also use a USB Y cable. That way it draws power from the second USB port as well. Just make sure it is the right one that will fit the port on your hard drive.

As long as it says it is specifically compatible with the Wii U, which it does (and so do the reviews), then you should be fine to get this one too. I can just personally vouch for the Plugable Technologies one.

These are the ones you want. They lock into the bottoms of the wiimotes with a switch, have a turbo and LZ button on the adaptor, also have an indicator light, and you get two for $11 each. The other wired one is really only better if you want to use it for the NES classic as I'm sure these wont fit on well.

You can get one off Amazon for $5. Definitely worth the convenience.

I keep a protective cover and a screen protector on mine. Those are marked up prices on Amazon and I paid much less at the time, so I'm sure you could fine similar cases and screen protectors for cheaper. Otherwise just take care of it and most likely you'll be fine. Worst case scenario I'm sure Nintendo will be doing repairs on them for quite a while, it'll just be pricey.

The Wii Pro Controller is my personal favorite, it's similar to an xbox 360 controller and has really great battery life. These go for about 50, but sometimes are on sale for 40ish. Here is a link.

Yeah, there is a Wii Pro Controller that works. But you plug it into the Wii Remote for it to work. After that it's a normal controller. It's very similar to a PS2 controller but it doesn't have clicky sticks. It comes in 3 colors, so it's up to you which one to pick. If you want a white one, buy it here. If you want a black one, buy it here. If you want a golden one, buy it here. There is always the Wii U Pro Controller which comes in both white and black, but that only works on Wii U games and not Wii games.

There are some adapters that allow you to plug your Gamecube controller into a Wii Remote, which should be compatible with games that support the Classic Controller. I had one so I could play Brawl on the Wii U before Smash 4 came out.

As long as the controllers work for the game itself, you can use them in any combination. Note, however, that you'll need the GameCube Controller Adapter for the GC controllers. If you have a lot of GC controllers or friends who have them, you can technically have 8 GC controllers for 8-player mode assuming that you have two GC controller adapters.

Well a charge kit for a gamepad and two WiiMotes is $12 on Amazon right now...with prime. I suggest buying that.
