There are no other Witcher stories, about Geralt or otherwise (there's a short story that isn't part of the series about Geralt's mother and the man who was likely his father but I have no idea if it's actually ever been published in English).

I don't know of any short stories fantasy series but I wonder, from reading your comment, if you wouldn't like David Gemmel. It's fantasy and mostly novel length but not too long (maybe 300 pages or so), his characters are badass without it being ridiculous, the stories are usually really fast paced and not terribly complicated - an easy but very enjoyable read. He manages to get you to like the characters from the getgo and his worldbuilding is pretty cool (there's some magic, mostly the characters are just human but there are some exceptions). He has a ton of books, some of which feature the same characters, some different ones, unrelated to each other. Anyway, maybe try [Legend] (https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Drenai-Tales-Book-1/dp/0345379063/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521850612&sr=8-1&keywords=gemmell+the+legend)? It's probably Gemmel's best-known book and Druss (the protagonist) is pretty damn awesome; I mean, the man fights with a 2H axe and is known as Legend, for a good reason. The story is about a handful of people defending a fortress under siege. If you end up liking it, there's more about Druss specifically or set in that same setting but with different characters, so you can keep going.

Now you're talking one of the biggest problems I always had as well! Drawing white hairs/details was easily one of my biggest roadblocks. I tried white pens and such, and personally didn't like it.

I 100% recommend a "Tuff Stuff" eraser stick. The stick itself is no different than any other mechanical eraser, but the eraser itself is a godsend. It is extremely durable and tough. I cut the end of it with scissors to create a sharp edge, and then I use it to eraser white lines into my graphite. It's best used on light graphite to get your white guidelines set, and then you darken the area around after drawing your white lines. Regular erasers sticks are generally no good because they're too soft. They just can't get the sharp, crisp erase lines like the tuff stuff ones do.

Unfortunately they aren't easy to find any more, and can be quite expensive now.

The stick itself I've seen range anywhere from $10-$100.. It's pretty ridiculous, you should definitely look around for awhile before you buy. I bought mine long ago for $8. The refills are what is really important though. The best deal I've found is here for 24 sticks: https://www.amazon.ca/Paper-Eraser-Holder-Refill-64818/dp/B00006IFAZ/ref=sr_1_1?s=office&ie=UTF8&qid=1469120190&sr=1-1&keywords=tuff+stuff+eraser

I couldn't recommend it enough, but again, it's personal preference =].

Good thing I came here, fellow video game fans know better.

I am trying to find out what books my own fantasy Clash of Mages resembles most.

Thanks to your advice I checked out Salvatore and it seems a lot more like what fantasy should be. Battle descriptions are closest to my own from what I encountered so far.

I played Witcher: 1st and 2nd, and liked them. My computer can't run 3rd.

I am generally a video games and anime fan who decided to become an author. I did read some of acclaimed authors like Tolkien and also some classics. And my book is mostly video games influenced.

Also about the fun part: In The Last Wish conversation about killing the Striga or lifting the curse was really fun.
You can read it free, it is part of free preview just click on the book cover. It is after the tavern scene: https://www.amazon.com/Last-Wish-Andrzej-Sapkowski-ebook/dp/B0043M6712/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1499392366&sr=1-1&keywords=witcher

Games have plenty of jokes as well: 'Would you like soup: Elf, and onions. No I don't like onions.', troll alcoholic and Foltest's famous 'I run this bordello.'

And for my book https://www.amazon.com/Clash-Mages-Hershel-Saga-Book-ebook/dp/B071LDFHYD/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1499395169&sr=8-2&keywords=Clash+of+MAges

A couple of their books were translated to English:

https://www.amazon.com/Vita-Nostra-Sergey-Dyachenko-ebook/dp/B00A7GP5ZW/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

https://www.amazon.com/Scar-Sergey-Dyachenko-ebook/dp/B005N8YR26/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

I'm not sure whether they're good in English, though. A huge part of why I love Dyachenko's books is their masterful handling of Russian.

It's a pity that I couldn't manage to find any Czech translations, which would be better since Czech is much closer to Russian than English is, and thus the translations would have been of a better quality.

I know that Polish translations exist, if anyone else (who knows Polish) is interested.

Yep thats basically it. :) But also - just seeing those things for what they are. (There still is beauty, mellow, friendship, love, laughter ... in the world of the Witcher.) As for "being evil" one definition the DLC suggests is "causing the suffering of others".

Also please recognize how there is a hint of "not being able to follow the Witchers morals" when you are in a position of power, society has put you in. It arguably is even recognized (at least as a possibility) in the relationhip to Ciri in one of the endings.

The Witcher, in a nutshell, is Coelhos Warrior of the Light ( http://www.amazon.com/Warrior-Light-Manual-Paulo-Coelho/dp/0060527986/ ) in a "real" (as in fake.. ;) ) world context. ;)

Hey thanks for the response! Yeah I don't have time to read the books sadly I am a father of 3 work full time and stream after they go to bed, so time is slim.

I will try that difficulty as long as its rewarding and not just hard to be hard. If you don't mind me asking what/where are the mods?

And my monitor is here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0149QBOF0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it is a great monitor! You have to adjust a little of the color/brightness stuff when you get it but you should do that anyways. It is the cheapest 1440p 144hz with gsync that has great reviews.

u/nycaless · 1 pointr/witcher

Yeah. But I checked and the prices are shitty, even more expensive than just buying it from a legit source. Suppose you could wait for a better deal to show up, idk, I don't have much experience with G2A.

Why do you want to get your friend a digital code? Discs are so much better imo.

Anyway, XB1 games don't really get sales like PC games do. You're not going to see any significant drop in price anywhere. Honestly I'd recommend just getting it on Amazon or something.

I too would totally buy up a beautiful book set like you described. That's been my wish for a long time now. I'd buy that up, and display that with pride.

Here's the info on [Season of Storms on Amazon:](

Most of it is Slavic folklore and mythology.
Amazon has one English book especially about Slavic mythic creatures (don't own, don't know if it's good), you should find a lot of the monsters of The Witcher Series in it, though sometimes with a slightly different name.
Some other things, like the motive of the Wild Hunt are things that are elements in most European countries folklore. Wiki is a good start for things like that, because you find good sources on most articles.

I would say a controller is more comfortable. I played Witcher with both, and i felt like the game experience is better with the controller.

So maybe buy a xbox controller for PC (it isn't expensive), and enjoy the game! :D

I'm part of a HEMA (Historic European Martial Arts) Club. We learn longsword fencing techniques based on the translated manuals from 15th-16th centuries swordsmen who attribute their knowledge to a 14th century master named Johannes Liechtenauer.

We put what we learn to use also because we drill and spar with masks, gloves, padded jackets and real steel training swords. After you feel like you can hold your own, you can sign up to be in tournaments. There are HEMA clubs all over the world that compete. it's really fun learning the history and testing your skills in real fencing matches.

I personally bought a book after i was finished the 10-week beginner course, that's a pretty comprehensive guide to all of the basic and intermediate offensive and defensive moves, drills, techniques etc. with easy to follow pictures and diagrams.

I'm actually currently reading a book on not giving a fuck what other people think as well as how to budget my fucks and measure fuck worth against Joy vs Annoy levels.

Pretty great so far. As someone who grew up fat, bullied, deceived and used it turns out I really needed it.

Great for people like me who spend their life trying to make everyone else other than themselves happy.

Yeah you can get a new PS4 for $259 with a great game included. Aside from GPU shortage, you point out that PCs have uses other than gaming, but so do consoles. They're simple, multi-purpose, media centers, and much much user friendly. I have a gaming PC and a PS4, but I use the PS4 more because it's just more convenient for most things. If you're going to game casually, just get a console. A $250 PC may perform on par, but for most people it's just not worth it. If you want a gaming PC, spend more than $250.

Yeah there are 3 different series they did. The art is fantastic, as are the stories. You can get the collection books where they put all the comics in a series into one book. I'd recommend getting them in physical form from Amazon. Here: Witcher Volume 1, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1616554746/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cMLbAb16ZHCF1 Witcher Volume 2, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1616557931/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_eNLbAbH3ZAFP8 Witcher Volume 3, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1506701612/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_4NLbAbGDJ125D

Here's The Witcher Library Edition Volume 1 on Amazon. I recommend going to a bookstore for the other books though, to be sure you can get them all matching. If you are into that anyways. If not, they have this set and you'll also have to get Season of Storms if you want them all.

u/Joe2596_ · 2 pointsr/witcher

Yes, ordered them from here on the 7th if you live in the UK. If you live somewhere else they might be different dimensions.
