Another fun fact: there's a board game called Castles of the Mad King Ludwig where each person plays an architect and attempts to build the best castle according to the mad king's wishes. It's a very fun game.

I'd recommend the Syma X5SW if you've never even flown a quadcopter before. Only $50. It's very durable and stable, which makes it great for learning. And it even has FPV (not the best from what I've heard, but still pretty cool). You don't want your first quadcopter to cost $400 for it to crash in a week.

I was searching for this "new science of numbers", but every google result is just this book. I'm surprised there are so many spam sites trying to sell access to PDFs.

I'm more surprised that... there's a copy for $15 on Amazon!

Yeah...I own and I've thought about removing it, but it's a lot of work (my entire house has these ceilings except the basement) and doesn't add any value. I have a fairly cynical approach to home improvement projects...is it financially worth the time and effort? This one isn't.

Plus now as /u/maniaxuk points out, I can buy some paint like this and just paint the tips of the pointy places...I think it would work!

There are several different kinds of balloons. There's the long skinny kind that are intended to be filled with normal air and shaped into balloon animals. Then there's the normal general purpose round kind which can be filled with water, or air, or helium. Then there's the metallic ones which are intended to only be filled with helium. (The metallic coating holds the helium inside longer.) There's also the small thin ones which are intended to be filled with water. They're small so that you can throw them easily, they're thin so they will be more likely to break with they hit their target. There's also specialty balloons like the huge ones for use in advertising (Fill it with helium and have it haul a sign into the air.) and weather balloons.

However the balloon in the picture is none of those, it's actually a punching balloon, which is a large thick balloon which is intended to be filled with air and then using a rubber band around your wrist you punch it and it will bounce.

So this is a punching balloon filled with mercury.

Doing a little research there are several ways to keep the sand together...

Using a layer of:

  • Polydimethylsiloxane which is a clear organic silicon coat that you can add to keep and preserve the shape of the sand. Which is very cheap and easy to come by.

    or

  • Sodium Silicate which is similar and cause the sand to stick and harden.

And there is innovative breakthrough in sand technology, using hydrophobic chemicals they create sand that never gets wet, which you've seen for kids.

They've also made sand that will stick together without the need of water, allowing someone to mold and shape the sand without water and not worrying about it drying out.

They may not be world saving cancer cures, but people have come up with several different ways to modify sand. You're literally just speaking like an ass. If we can send men to the moon, give people their vision/hearing back, soar across the skies, play in virtual reality, create bombs that will blow up 100's of miles of land... then we can probably think of a way to move sand structure from a beach, into a building.

>my favorite sci fi subgenre: space catholics

You might want to check out Duncton Wood by William Horwood.

Not space Catholics, but rather Druid moles. If you can dig fantasy as opposed to sci-fi, it's one of my favorites of all time.
