Monoprice PA system $166 it will be loud and have enough bass to make the kids happy.

Add a MP3 player for $35 for music

Add a wireless Mic for $32 and you can run practice through the PA system

--OR--

An all in one system with a mic, but not a wireless mic for $229. Plenty loud with enough bass

Another all in one system for $199 with a wired mic

Now you know what to look for. The kids will love these systems because it will play loud and have bass. Sometimes getting people bought in is just making them happy.

I'd use Eastbay to browse and then see if you can find cheaper prices on Amazon or elsewhere. Cliff Keen Tornado was my preferred headgear, myself and a few other guys from my team wore Brute tights instead of knee pads (all the advantages of a knee pad without having to adjust it constantly), and I loved my Adidas shoes.

Get plenty of practice clothes, nobody wants to be the guy that is practicing in yesterdays gear and you'll probably end up losing some to blood stains. Pick up a couple pairs of cheap sweats and a couple cheap crew necks to be your cutting gear. They come in handy when you show up 5 pounds over and your AD tells the team he has a meeting so you've gotta weigh in in 45 minutes.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

We have Suples dummies in our club's wrestling room, and they all got shredded to pieces at the stichings. Most of the wrestlers that used them were high school kids though, and I really have no idea how rough they were with them, though knowing them I would assume they were acting like a bunch of orangutans with them. Without seeing what the kids were doing I can't vouch for the quality, though the company seems to have a good reputation.

I have an son in the sport who's almost nine and a daughter in the sport that's almost 11 and we have a wrestling mat in our basement for working out at home. This Christmas Santa brought a black canvas Celebrita grappling dummy. We got it "used" for about $100, though when it showed up it wasn't even take out of the plastic bag it came in by the previous owner. It comes empty, and you have to fill it yourself. "Santa" basically spent close to a month sitting and watching Netflix and cutting up t-shirts, and sweatshirts, and other clothing that we were going to haul to the Salvation Army, every night after the kids went to bed, stuffing them in the dummy afterwards and tucking the dummy in Mom and Dad's closet during the day. Thirty nights of cutting and cutting and cutting jeans and hoodies with that damn kitchen scissors, Santa has a goddamn wrestlers grip now fit to pull your arm out of its socket, but the dummy was filled and ready to wrestle when the kids came upstairs Christmas morning.

It seems to be of really good quality. The seams are stitched together pretty solidly, and I don't foresee my kids having the strength to ever tear it up. Maybe the one drawback would be that it has three straps (one on the head and one on each shoulder), with heavy-duty metal D-Rings on the end of the straps, so that it can be used to hang the dummy from the ceiling joists to make it stand up on its own. If your practicing throws, you'll want to figure out a way to fasten the straps down so your kid doesn't go to school looking like you beat him with a flail. If you don't plan on hanging the dummy you can just cut them off. I wound up just tying the shoulder straps together behind the dummy's back which keeps them out of the way, and putting a beanie on his head to cover the head strap.

Work on your grip. Get some grip strengthens.

Something like this: BOOMIBOO Hand Grip Strengthener, Hand Soft Foam Manual Exerciser, Rapid Increase of Wrist, Forearm and Finger Strength Exercise Equipment, 2 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074W6924S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tLX2Db3V2Q0GS

Try getting your coach to speak with your mom.

Talk with your coach and ensure there are preventive measures in place to clean and sanitize the mats prior to every use. If there is no program in place, help your coach develop one. It may mean that you personally mop the mats before practice.

Shower with Selsum Blue Medicated shampoo, using it as a body wash. The active ingredient is a strong anti-fungal. Protect yourself. Use this after every practice, after every meet.

Get yourself a can of this and apply to your exposed skin before practice and before meets.

doing these things will show your mom you are willing to do what is necessary in order to wrestle. It will show you have a plan to protect yourself from skin infections that are completely avoidable.

Definitely worth having. I also like to use fat grips on the bar to help with grip strength. I guess you could use towels as well.

I had this one for a while: http://www.amazon.com/GoFit-Elevated-Chin-Up-Station/dp/B0027ICCTA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396761626&sr=8-1&keywords=gofit+pullup

It's elevated which is nice, and extremely sturdy, and if you don't want to order it off the internet, I think Big5 and other fitness stores usually carry them. I had one but I traded it with a friend and bought a new one that isn't elevated and I wish I had bought the elevated one. Well worth the money.

This is what my daughter uses when she has to. This one has been the best we have found. Stays in place keeps hair in place and the best is that it goes under headgear not over. Also order a couple always have a back up!

In terms of strength and bulk, can’t recommend this highly enough super squats I did this program some 25 years ago and made substantial gains

u/Jimmers1231 · 1 pointr/wrestling

Also, pick up some springy grip things or racketballs to squeeze in your spare time. Grip strength is pretty important.

I would really recommend checking out Starting Strength for the weightlifting component. Buy it and read all of it, but if that is too much, you can get the basics from the wiki.

What type of conditioning exercise do you like? I would just make sure to get some sessions of that at least 30 min 3 or four times a week.

There's basically two types:

Brute-style Neoprene kneepads

They've been around forever and used to be the most popular by far. I think they're less popular now. These were the first pair I owned, and I've tried several of the other types of kneepads, and just couldn't get used to them, and always returned to these. Brute has the original, but there are lots of similar pads made by others now.

Puffy volleyball-style kneepads

Also have been around forever, but were generally marketed towards volleyball players not wrestlers. I could never get used to them, but some people swear by them. One thing to note is that these tend not to slide as much as the neoprene pads. Some people like that, some don't.

Use your skin creme and if your school doesn't supply their own buy some. Shower after every practice/meet religiously. Not much else you can do.
