On the classical side, it's Rosa Ponselle and Eva Turner FTW: IMO they're as good or better than anyone you've ever heard since. The definitive book on early classical recordings is JB Steane's magnum opus The Grand Tradition. Unfortunately, it's not on Libgen, but the Youtube search string of choice here is "Nimbus Prima Voce Orchard" and you can hear all the great Golden Age singers. Good stuff.
