Features:
For starters, don't use 3-ring binders to store your cards. Those type of binders damage cards and are usually more of a pain to carry around. 3-ring binders also require you to buy inside pages separately and are generally top loading, which is a less safe way to store cards.
Most players use Ultra-Pro or Monster binders. Both of these brands of binder are side-loading, which will take some getting used to - but it's worth it.
Monster binders are premium quality and the interior pages protect cards well. However I've found that Monster binders don't last very long and the pages can tear relatively easily. They also don't hold up well in extreme heat/cold. A 9-pocket Monster binder will cost about $30.
The binder brand I use for all cards (collection and trade) is Ultra-Pro. Their binders are extremely durable and easy to carry. Ultra-Pro binders last a lot longer than Monster binders from my experience. The inside pages are matte, side-loading and protect cards well. You can get either a standard binder or a premium leather one for a few bucks more. I linked you to Amazon if you're looking to buy. A standard binder is $17, a premium one is $20.
Ultra-Pro Standard PRO-Binder (9-pocket green)
Ultra-Pro Premium PRO-Binder (9-pocket brown)
I would highly recommend looking into the Ultra-Pro binders for sorting your collection! And make sure to get the 9-pocket ones, they're the best value and most normal size.
Hey there, I've been organizing draft tournaments among my friends every few months. What I usually do is make 4 separate lists of "core theme" cards, generic monsters, generic S/T cards, and extra deck cards, then try to balance out each of the 4 lists among each other to my liking before mixing them into the draft (ED cards are usually separate packs from the main deck cards).
Not sure if you want to follow this route also, but I usually make the draft have some sort of common theme among at least 25-40% of the cards in the draft (i.e. last draft was themed around spell counter cards, and the one before that was themed around pendulums, and now I am working on synchros). It does take quite a bit of effort to come up with new themes and buy a fresh set of cards, which is why I only switch it up every 6 months or so.
Before I get into some card recommendations, I want to just say that you can make poor man's booster packs with these things Here. Yugioh cards fit snugly into them, and I've been using them to make custom boosters for a while. You can store the boosters in a tin or something, I store them in an empty slim jim box.
And now onto the cards:
Palezoics, Krawlers, and the bad Phantom Knights Traps: I know you said no archetypes, but all 3 of these have monsters/traps that interact generically with anything. Krawlers have low attack flip monsters like Spine and Axon that can pop cards, Paleos have generic utility cards that double as free advantage while in the grave, and phantom knights traps mostly have battle-based effects, and many of them special themselves. These are also great because they all double as a source of level 2s for any xyz monsters you want to put in.
Battle Phase Cards: I don't think you can really get around the dependency on the battle phase unless you purposely include a ton of low-attack monsters,or prioritize removal and negation backrow over monsters. In a game where your deck is random and you pretty much have to play with whatever you draw, the battle phase will be where most of the interaction takes place. There's a ton of cards that you could put in. Some cards off the top of my head would be Dododo warrior, Blizzard Dragon, Ego Boost, Necro Gardna, etc.
High Level Cards: Some high level monsters I like to put in include Evilswarm Coppelia, any of the OG monarchs, Timelords, Ancient Gear Golem, etc.
Memes: It's not a draft if you don't put in a bunch of meme cards. Convulsion of nature, Two-for One Team, Transmission Gear, Gift Exchange, Lucky Punch, Time Wizard all are cards that I include.
Skill Cards: Optional but fun, I would suggest copying duel links and looking at anime-only cards for inspiration.
Thank you very much! We greatly appreciate the fact you took the time to respond, cause it shows you guys listen to your fans. ah yea true about the colours, the posted ones a bad example but even on my sky striker token seems like the shine is still somewhat strong through a matte sleeve though the india ink is probably good and easy to do just for the bottom bar.
the paper I've been using is this .Someone here recommended it on another custom token post.
May i ask what you print your field centers on? I think it was was actually one of your posts that made me wonder how to get the colours/shine better lololol. Some of the field centers look very sharp and not too shiny like the super rare joey one.
> Those cardinal binders look nice, but are awfully expensive on Amazon for me.
You're telling me, lol. I bought them at Walmart for $10 each, but spread over time as I needed them. You obviously won't need a plethera of binders if you're starting from scratch, although keep in mind supplies ARE ALWAYS expensive, you're just noticing it because you need it all at the same time.
> what sleeves do you recommend?
For your 3-ring binder, I use the exact ones you linked. The more you buy at a single time, the cheaper they are. I usually buy 2,000 at a time. They are perfect for 9-pocket pages.
A trade binder, to me, is one of those ultra pro/monster binders you were referring to in your older post Like This. If you aren't planning on going to locals and trading with fellow players, don't even worry about it. If you're just going about starting a personal collection, get a smaller 3-ring binder for valuables and a bigger one for collection. I personally do not recommend lugging a small 3-ring binder around to locals and tournaments to trade because the cards can fall out of the pages if you aren't careful.
Here's my logic (and yes I will include singles). Also by the next set (Circuit Break, links will be well established, buying is up to you!)
Those cardinal binders look nice, but are awfully expensive on Amazon for me.
Moving on, to answer some of your questions (and to ask some of my own), what sleeves do you recommend? I found these, would they suffice for ultra pro 9 pocket pages? Or do I want something a little thicker? I chose those because they are on the cheaper side, from what I've read review wise, they are also thin, however.
As for how many cards I have right now, none, I'm going to be buying a lot of singles via eBay until I complete my original binder(s) of holos. So I'm completely rebuilding my collection from scratch.
Last question, what is the difference between a trade binder and a 3-ring binder, or is a trade binder just what you call a 3-ring binder where you put your rarest cards that are up for trade?
go to this amazon link to get a starter deck, this is the best thing to do first because first you need to learn the game then make a good deck. Play your friends for a bit then try a locals. Hope this helps
Yo, I've pretty much went through a similar situation. I personally got the Ultra-Pro Pro-Tower, but there's probably better ones as I hadn't explored my options that much when I got it, along with the fact that I was new to everything. A few weeks later though, I wound up getting a lot more into collecting cards than I'd anticipated, which led me to getting binders. So ya, if you're sure you aren't going to get more than 130 cards or so, you might have to get another deck box for the few extra cards. Personally, I'd recommend getting something cheap since it would only contain about ~30 cards.
Also, to expand on what u/chimaeraUndying said, this would be the inner sleeve, and this would be the outer sleeve (Note the dimensions, and the fact that a yugioh card is 59mm by 86mm).
Took a quick glance, big mistake lol. Does anyone actually play with mats like this (NSFW) (If the link doesn't direct properly, it's "Group Photo MH9")? I really hope I never have to see anyone playing that. I really don't mind the anime mats, they're quite awesome to see actually. But when we start going into the hentai mats, I don't really see why you would want to publicly show that...
>I watched the video tutorial but how do we stick the card together? It looks like on this max c you painted most of the areas. Wouldn't that make it more difficult for it to stick to the blank card since most of the adhesive side is covered with paint now?
All you need is the edges to be clear of paint since the edges will hold the rest down. The rest doesn't really matter.
>Also for the gold lettering is there a specific link? I only found these two on amazon: Therm O Web Deco Foil (Pack of 20), Gold and Deco Foil, 5 Transfer Sheets, 6" x 12", Gold.
This is the foil I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SW79E0A
>If you commission cards for people can you share them here on reddit as well?
Sure, I'm not going to post my stuff too much because I don't want to spam the subreddit though. People would get bored/annoyed with it eventually.
Legendary Collection 1 and 2 will help you easily make your first page.
Legendary Collection 1 comes with the three god cards, a Blue-Eyes, a Red-Eyes, and a Dark Magician, as well as one of each of the first 6 packs.
Legendary Collection 2 comes with the Three Sacred Beasts, some other promos, and is very easy to pull Cyber Dragon out of.
Deckbox: Just Ultra-Pro boxes, nothing too fancy because they do the job.
Playmat: This lovely little number right here gets me plenty of comments and starts lots of conversations at locals. I love it
Sleeves: KMC Hyper Mat Mini's for my meta decks, Ultra Pro Mattes for my other decks. Extra Deck is always sleeves in Ultra Pro Pinks so that I can move cards from deck to deck easily.
Tokens: Emmisary Tokens meant to be summoned off of Gorz. I got one in one of those Target packs so I ordered another to use.
I used to have a binder like this. It's pretty nice, it's hardcover so it protects your cards better than a softcover binder would, and it has padded covers lined with velvety cloth.
That's pretty cool, but something more like this:

I don't know whether that'll hold 8 though...I may just have to buy 2 :)

There's a few other on amazon but http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FO91D94/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1409493351&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40#mobile-twister_color_name_1409493359307
But here's where I got mine and the makers tamatama league are really good I've had this Mat for a year now and it's still going strong!
Personally I use the Ultimate guard classic twin flip and tray deck boxes as they comfortably store my 2 double sleeved decks w/ full extra & side and have a draw for odd stuff like counters and dice. but to be honest if you only used single sleeved decks and used a shared pool of extra and side deck cards they you should be able to squeeze in 4 decks. But if your insistant on carryying 8 decks in a single box then one of your few options is the quiver.

I use to use those sleeves on my extra deck. Really nice accent to my BA deck.

Assuming you mean these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006YNIL7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IrxWBbEVZ2FDB) , you can find others by searching "mini character guard sleeves" if you want them to fit Yu-Gi-Oh sized sleeves.
I couldn't really find KMC hyper matte minis because that was what I was going for but I found these for an okay price, thoughts?
