Too bad - I guess a sous vide would be out on that basis. Others had great suggestions like doing a weekly meal prep at nearby grill (weather could be a constraint). University dorms or maybe a nearby park or housing complex could have something you could frequent. There may be decent ZC or at least low carb/keto options thru campus dining anyway.

Well I had a few other random thoughts as I considered how to best deal with your challenge.

  1. Store bought thinly sliced roast beef from the deli area? Should be able to find a good product if you look around and try to negotiate volume pricing. Likely to be fairly lean...so you'll need to consider that.
  2. Here's the keywords to find a microwave steamed egg (korean style) recipe you may like, I used to eat it growing up: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=microwave+gyeran+jjim, japanese chawanmushi is somewhat similar and gives you more options to pick ZC friendly seasoning. Invest in a good quality fish sauce (ingredients = anchovies) or bonito dashi powder I'd suggest if you want to put something like this in your rotation.
  3. Of course there are lots of gadgets to help make your microwave more functional, especially for egg cooking but also bacon, assuming you tolerate it (although can be pricy, pork belly at an asian market is often cheaper).
  4. You could pick up one of these or probably devise your own. https://www.amazon.com/Half-Boiled-Egg-Maker-Traditional/dp/B07DCDC32Y Easy enough to boil water in the microwave, just be careful to take precautions against superheating it.
  5. It's a bit of a meme these years, but there are probably some good online microwave cooking guides around that may be helpful. https://www.microwavecookingforone.com/MicrowaveTips/
  6. I guess old school microwave browning equipment is similar to those disposable heating sleeves for hot pockets and microwave pizza. I did a quick search on Amazon and you can find such products, although they seem a bit pricy.
  7. Organ meat probably doesn't turn out well in any microwave - canned cod livers are good though.
  8. Canned sardines are fairly inexpensive and can help cover you on the omega3s front.
  9. I don't think jerky is a reasonable long term option, but you can do some research online. There's a pdf describing how to do it with a lightbulb and a box, although I'm not too confident in the food safety of that.

Good luck! I don't think the economic aspect will be the issue here.

Ha =) well this diet will test your will power that's for sure. But it gets a lot easier as you learn what works for you.

I am glad you made it here. Most IBDers don't think they can only eat meat and survive and therefore never try. I have only anecdotal evidence but from what I have seen lots of them would benefit from it.

Few tips to start off:

  1. You will poop a lot less. Most of the meat and fat we eat gets utilized by the body.

  2. I would get some sort of snack to help you wean off your "carb snacking" ways. I used pork rinds a lot when I first started off.

    https://www.amazon.com/Utz-Pork-Rinds-18-Barrel/dp/B001YJ2VOO/ref=zg_bs_16323071_1

  3. You will eventually want to move away from plant based fats. Lard, Tallow, and Duck Fat work great for me. Here is where I buy them:

    http://grasslandbeef.com/

  4. There will be a transition period. Salt really helped me with this, however don't get overly involved with all the Electrolyte drama that goes on over at r/keto.

  5. Your body will need a lot of fat, but will not be able to handle a lot at first. It might give you diarrhea. Work up your fat tolerance up slowly.

  6. Different people have different cooking techniques. Do what's easiest for you. I sous vide everything which allows me to go shopping once a month - which I love.

  7. Watch Leonardo Dicaprio in The Revenant. That's you.

Your body will thank you. Raised vegan, sometimes saw my parents “lapse” into vegetarianism, went to mostly vegetarian as an adult but rebelled by trying inconsequential quantities of meat. I had a myriad of mystery health problems that I couldn’t understand and neither could my doctors; I’m early 30’s. It was a horrible journey, but I feel like a new person on carnivore/zero carb and I’m only three months into it. Also everything is starting to make sense which is glorious.

I’ll be honest with you, changes in weight or muscles are not as visually dramatic for me initially. If your experience is like mine, your body will spend a lot of time nourishing deprived joints, bones and muscles in the beginning, but you’ll feel more energy and stronger. I also experienced extreme oxalate dumping which was tough. I wrote some of my experience here (kind of went on a tangent, tbh!):
https://www.reddit.com/r/zerocarb/comments/df5qdp/optimizing_my_way_of_eating_for_further_health/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

If you have more questions, feel free to message me. I’m still learning about meat (I didn’t even know what each cut was or how to cook it) but I hope you enjoy that first steak as much as I did!!!

Oh I suggest some good reading for recovering vegetarians/vegans, message me if you’re interested in a book list but “vegetarian myth” by Lierre Keith is a good primer:

Those are great bones. There's a bit of marrow in there, but honestly I'd add more. There's quite a bit of fat inside of marrow, and if you've tried it you'll know it's extremely rich. Takes a careful cooking process to extract it from the bone. When I cook my stock, I usually put about 2kg of marrow, and an additional 1-2kg of short rib, ox tail, etc (total). So, I yield anywhere between 3-5kg. So, perhaps the reason why I yield so much tallow is because I tend make a large stock!

Take a look at Food Wishes Beef Stock recipe. A popular chef and you can find that with a quick google. I believe he uses only marrow for his stock, a total of 2-3kg alone!

Asking for fat trimmings works as well! I've done this at the local butcher and they're usually very happy to give it up (as long as you make a purchase). I don't know how things work in Copenhagen . Also, another thing I do is leave my cast-iron pan unclean after cooking burgers, steak, etc. I'll let the fat solidify and collect it. I've had very little problems with this!

I'm also certain you can order tallow online. I order duck fat from "Epic Provisions". They have tallow as well: https://www.amazon.com/Epic-Animal-Fats-Tallow-Count/dp/B01MV25QDM

I highly recommend getting yourself a George Foreman Grill like this. They are dead simple to use and you can cook pretty much any kind of meat on them. I'm an experienced cook but still use mine nearly everyday. Steaks, burgers, bacon, ground beef, pork chops, chicken, you name it you can cook it on the GF. One of the simplest things I cook are frozen 1/4 burger patties from Costco. I don't even defrost them first, I throw them on frozen and plug the GF in (no need to pre-heat) and in 11 to 12 minutes they are done. For fresh meat I pre-heat the GF until the light goes off and then cook, steaks take about 6 to 7 minutes depending on how done you want them. Trust me, you will love it.

I had sinus surgery and have struggled with chronic sinusitis.

Look into sinus rinse salts, such as those sold by Neilmed. Use this bottle not the weird "teapot one."

https://www.amazon.com/Sinus-Rinse-Adult-Bottle-Kit/dp/B004H1RA6U/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=neilmed+bottle&qid=1567204125&s=hpc&sr=1-1

When you're going to use it, make sure it is approximately body temperature first (immerse the fully prepared bottle in a larger glass that has hot water in it). You can use distilled water or just bottled water works fine for me. Really spray it in both nostrils with good force and tilt your head around afterward to drain everything. It's a really cheap natural way to keep your sinuses clear and feeling good. It's literally just salts so you can barely call it "medicine" and it's definitely not a drug. Good luck.

I'm sure there is a lot of marketing BS in here. I don't know how it could track everything it claims it can. But, I was interested in the app that would easily record and track my progress and the body fat % measurement. I do know from experience that scales can measure body fat %, so as long as it does those things I'm happy.

u/GroovyGrove · 8 pointsr/zerocarb

I have been using this stuff, but my hygienist, who was complementing my newfound dental health (aside from coffee stains), said just baking soda would probably do the job. I probably won't buy it again if I can make something easily, but it is nice for travel, and shelf stable for years. Would recommend it to anyone who travels regularly.

u/forevernevereverfor · 13 pointsr/zerocarb

This is my routine for 14 meals/week (Lunch and Dinner), and it's not truly carnivore since I don't eat any read meat :|

  • I don't eat breakfast
  • I do 4 slices of thick cut bacon and 4 eggs/meal for 4 meals
  • 4 chicken burgers/meal for 4 meals (patty and cheese)
  • 1/2 lb of salmon and 4 eggs/meal for 3 meals
  • 1lb of chicken wings/meal for 3 meals

*****I'll add a TBS of butter with each meal if I feel that meal might not be enough

I usually drink diet soda or sparkling water with meals, although I like these more https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JB13AKG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hope this helps and congratulations on the wedding :)

I eat at bedtime because it helps me sleep. However, I don't eat that much. Get yourself a blood glucose meter and an acetone (ketone) meter and check when you arise for a number of days. Try eating half that much and measure both again for a number of days. Walmart ReliOn Prime is an inexpensice glucose meter and here is a good breath acetone meter like what I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NSVPGNP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hopefully your glucose is 90 or less and breath acetone is 2-3. Try eating less meat if you are not there yet.

Utz Pork Rinds are great value and pretty filling. They come in massive jugs.

Then go for hydrolyzed collagen powder. Here the best one I’ve found.

Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate Beef, Kosher, 16 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005KG7EDU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PKYKAb2WFB81G

Aside from the iron, I started taking this collagen supplement. You should definitely check in with a pediatrician though. Good luck!

It's not cheap, but I've had it for years and it's pretty indestructible. It's not the thin chemical non-stick coating, it's the cast iron covered in black enamel. I've put it in the oven, on the grill, in the dishwasher, it's been dropped, scraped and burned, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

It’s totally non-stick if you’re cooking meat, but you’ll need to use plenty of fat if you’re cooking eggs.

They're a 1000x better than tinned, I promise.

It was online: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IN68842/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But I am unsure how good it is.. is it supposed to taste like waxy vanilla when just licking it?

I will be trying US Wellness meats suet next, I think.

I'm very happy with my Dalstrong blade https://www.amazon.com/DALSTRONG-Butchers-Breaking-Cimitar-Knife/dp/B076BPHBSM/ , they have smaller knifes as well as "Shogun" editions.

u/kaystrife · 2 pointsr/zerocarb

Haha, some misunderstanding there. Sorry, English is not my first language.

This model is nice but might be a bit pricey. There are not many options in my country so I chose this despite its price. The one Shawn Baker is currently using seems nice too, and cheaper. You can check out his IG.

It's written by a former avid Vegan, and covers what she's learned about how Vegtarianism/Veganism affects health, the environment, and animal rights. It's not a hard scientific study, but covers a wide range of topics to enough of a degree to possibly reshape your thinking. I suggest reading it as a overview, and then start digging into select areas that concern you more deeply.

She didn't go ZC, but instead is omnivore with a focus on fresh unprocessed food.
