Well, /u/colbaltLion, /u/thawed_caveman and others have hit all the main points but I'll add my two cents as well.

Regarding outlining/planning:

Everybody is going to approach this differently, but there are generally two schools of thought on this: Highly detailed and planned out stories, or less planned and more organic. I am of the latter type.

I suspect my story is somewhat unique as it didn't start out any anything more that little throw away blurb of some 2000 words plus or minus, and was never intended to go any farther. Somehow I'm now writing one of the most popular fics in the fandom.
SO - I had to come up with a plot when it became clear I was passing my beer and saying "Here, hold this..."

I don't outline in normal sense. HOW you do this is going to very much depend on you and what kind of person you are, and what the story is about. Are you someone who is detail oriented and likes to plan everything out first or do you like to just go with the flow and see where things lead? Is your story a fast paced action/drama with lots of characters, places and events or a fluffy pastel thing with lots of humor and canoodling? All of these things lead to a different style or story and writing. There is no set rule on this, but do what is right for you AND the story.

Personally I don't outline, not in any physical sense, at least for this current story - the next is another matter. Everything is in my head. I know where the story is going, I know the major plot points and events but how long it takes to get to each point is up in the air and things constantly shift. There are whole scenes that were absolutely amazing in my head, but simply don't have a place anymore in the story now, or have been chopped up/altered into something different.

I write in the very organic way that I mentioned. Each chapter starts out with key point, or points, that I want to hit. I set up those parameters then wind up Nick and Judy and let them go, watching what they do and who they interact with. I know to some that sounds odd but that's just how I work. I have said before that I follow them in my minds eye and record what happens. New characters pop up all the time, new ideas or scenes pop up all time as well. This is great for a given amount of 'great'. However, this method leads to what I call "Robert Jordan Syndrome" which I am most certainly guilty of. Since I don't have a tight solid outline, and just like to let things unfold as I go, this leads to a very long and long winded story. I have packed a half an hour of events into 10K+ words. I've started referring to my story as a Soap Opera because at this point that is what it is. It's 95% fluff right now. It's not some gritty crime drama, it's not some depressing story chalked full of OCs etc... it's just a continuation of the movie. It's all about Nick and Judy's relationship unfolding, along with all the sad and hilarious things that happen in between. The long winded works well as it provides lots of room for dialogue, thoughts, feelings etc.. and apparently a lot of people seem to like that. What I have done is timeskip where it fits in. That is to say I don't need to spend 15k words about every conversation Nick and Judy have with Judy's family when they do a meet and greet in BunnyBurrow - I summed it all up in a few paragraphs.

It all boils down to what the point of the story is. My story is almost completely pointless... as I often joke "I just want to see the fox and rabbit kiss." I do have a story arc going on, and there will be a bit of action around the climax that sets ground work for the next, much more serious, story, but right now it's one long "Nick and Judy's Adventures in Dating." so the glacial pacing and long windiness fit well with that. People like their WildeHopps, myself included, so I have no problem with providing plenty of it.

POV

I've not see anybody comment specifically about this yet but it's one of those things you'll see people screw up a lot. There are two main story POVs in use: First Person where we are seeing through a characters eyes and hearing their thoughts, as if they are dictating to you. It can be one of the more difficult POvs to pull off. The second one is Third Person, which is the more common. There IS Second Person as well, but nobody uses that ouside of poetry and such.

For example:

1st:

I turned, seeing Judy coming out of the elevator doors. "Hey! Judy!" I called.

3rd

Nick turned, and seeing Judy stepping from the elevator called out to her.

"Hey, Judy!"

Now there are actually several different TYPES of POV within each main POV too, it can be bloody confusing. There's First Person Peripheral, Third Person Limited, Third Person Omniscient etc., the list goes on. Point is pick one and stick with it. It usually boils down to personal preference as to which you use. Here is a good write up on them.

POV shifting

This is another common gotchya. When your POV shifts you start a new paragraph - this is linked to the type of POV you are using as well. In First Person the POV never really shifts from the character who's eyes you're seeing out of. Third Person is different as POV shifts based on who is talking or doing some action.

Bad POV shift example:

Nick turned, and seeing Judy stepping from the elevator called out to her. "Hey, Judy!" he called. Judy turned her head and and raised a paw to him. "Hey!"

So... Was it Judy saying "Hey!" back or was it Nick saying "Hey!" again? This is a simplistic example, but incorrect POV shifting can cause confusion as to who is talking or doing what. There is a certain amount of nebulousness regarding when to start a new line when Dialogue is involved as well. You usually want to start a new paragraph each time the speaker switches or is speaking for the first time etc..

As a side note you also will want to start a new line even when the POV shift from the character but the subject of what is going on shifts. I.E. The paragraph starts out about Nick thinking about X but then there is a shift to thinking about or doing Y - you would want to put Y in it's own paragraph.

Anyway, as long as you stay within the general POV guidelines where to start a new paragraph is often left up to the writer. You don't necessarily need to start a new paragraph when the character is speaking for the first time, but should if the preceding text is long. You don't want a big paragraph from the POV of a character then tack on some dialog at the end, it's generally better to let the dialogue start it's own line in that instance.

For example the following could be written a couple could of different ways:

Nick turned, and seeing Judy stepping from the elevator called out to her.

"Hey, Judy!"

Judy turned her head and and raised a paw.

"Hey!" she called back

Or

Nick turned, and seeing Judy stepping from the elevator called out to her. "Hey, Judy!"

Judy turned her head and and raised a paw. "Hey!" she called back.*

How ever you do it; be consistent. Again there are plenty of resources out on the net about all of this.

Editing

This is been pointed out already by Colbalt and Caveman's detailed posts but it really does need to be stressed. I'm sure we've all seem some really bad stories that seem like they have been put together by people who have never picked up a book, let alone the metaphorical pen, in their life - if you're one of those people do your homework before whipping something up and throwing it out there. Edit and edit some more. If you don't you'll be ignored at best, at worst you'll become a punching bag and laughed at. When I started I had not written anything in nearly 20 years and was extremely rusty. When I was a few chapters in and starting to get some interest from editors I pulled everything back and revamped it after going through tons of pages and videos about things I was screwing up. It was a case of known unknowns. I knew I had something special from the response I got, but I quickly realized I was not to hot in the actual mechanics of writing anymore (Punctuation, POV etc.) It's 2017 folks, we have Google, we have Youtube. There are countless videos, blogs, forums dedicated to writing. /u/thawed_caveman pointed out an excellent series on screenwriting, also highly reccomend Brandon Sandersons lectures.

Two last things

Firstly - I push this a lot when ever I get someone asking me for help or advice about writing in general: Stephen Kings 'On Writing. A Memoir of the Craft.' I highly recommend getting the [audiobook](http://www.audible.com/pd/Bios-Memoirs/On-Writing- Audiobook/B002V1A0WE/ref=a_search_c4_1_1_srTtl?qid=1487958580&sr=1-1) - it is half life story, often very funny, and half advice on writing narrated by King himself.

Secondly - It would be a very good idea to read: The Elements of Style - I really need to re-read this myself as it's been a long while, but every writer should have a copy.

Excuse me sir, I'm afraid falling down from stairs especially in a PRISON is unlikely to happen. And hitting others is totally not tolerable and whoever did it will face solitary confinement and being taken to Max prison afterwards. So you're pretty safe inside there wink

Speaking of guitars, I just remember my brother did learn a few guitar lessons before. Months later he quitted it, probably lost of interests already. So we have a spare guitar lying somewhere inside the store room waiting to be dusted. I tried to sell it online but to no avail. But I'm not really fond of it.

I wanted to learn violin last year. I decided to give out after enquiring few music centers. It's quite costly but it's still affordable for me, but the thing is they told me violin takes years to master it. I did know every instrument needs a long time to practise. They recommend me to learn guitar instead. Because violin is like piano, it's best to learn when you're still a little kid. As a big fan of classical musics and opera, this bad news hit me hard. That's only the reason why I wanted to learn violin though. But anyway, I still enjoy these musics as usual. But I wish I had the chance to watch them live. The countries which nearest to mine and helding the concert are either Japan or Australia. I prefer Australia, then I'll have the chance to watch it in Sydney Opera House. Wooooooooo. Never been to Australia. But not so fast yet, this short trip is gonna cost me about 1 year gross pocket money.(Maybe a 4D3N trip) Holy Mother Of God, that's a lot! In order to achieve my maybe biggest dream, I'm learning stocks right now. I planned a 10k portfolio which will be carried out several months later. Hopefully, it will bring me enough profit for the next year's trip. But I still have another problem- my parents. Well y'know my parents are kinda conservative, I doubt they will let their child travel along to another country.

There's no need for a CD if you don't have or miss it, google it and you will the HD version which I did. I know it's pirating, but... that's the only way for me.

Watch out we got a badass over here! Now I need to get a revolver inside my holster. Preparing for a future dueling. Hehe.

The sub will die out soon or maybe eventually few years later, once the community stops making arts. Comic is the one going to die out first, then maybe fanfics and arts. It's rare to find new comics now, but I'm glad I bookmarked alot of comics before. About comics, I know there's only 5 left which are still making and updating. Savage Company, PL PG, Spintherella's, Kulkum's, and Mead cooperating with Anon's. Not sure there's more or not, these are what I have in mind, at 1:30am. You're scared of those stuff, don't you? evil laughs

I don't have any love experience before. But I do have few ideas that might help you. First off, I want to know do you like or love her. It has different meaning. The previous one is maybe lust; the latter is like we said 'My Judy' someone you want to live with her forever. Or maybe you like the characteristics of her, and wanna be friends with that sweet little girl? I'll leave it that for you. For tips how to approach girls, I just have a nice book which will do the job flawlessly. This book might be a little costly. Oh and the author has a Youtube channel too, here. I bookmarked this book long before, maybe I'll buy it somewhere in future.

Anytime man, I'm already started my holiday.

Came across these at a store I wasn't expecting, which was ironic as I was looking around toys r us for the nick wilde infinity figurine. Only have two judy's, but that's okay. Much cheaper then I expected also!

TJ Maxx/Marshalls (Same store)

Plushies: 5.99 each.

Flocked Figurines: 3.99 each

Finnick $9.99

They also have two pack figurine sets, Nick/Finnick, Lionheart and (?? forgot who) and Judy/Bellweather (believe Bellweather was in that set). 3.99? if memory serves me right

Some of the smaller poseable sets

Nick:

"Hey, it's officer toot toot"

"Popsicles, get your popsicles"

"(A laugh)"

"Flash is the fastest guy in there, you need something done? he is on it"

"Well Officer fluff, I am impressed. You out foxed a fox"

"What do you call a 3 humped camel?"

Judy:

"Every Mammal has a heart"

"Let's show them what a bunny from the burrows can do"

"Ha Ha"

"Officer Judy Hopps reporting for duty"

"Anyone can be anything"

"Bunnies from the burrow do not get stepped on, they step up"

2 In 1 Ele-Finnick

Photo 1

Photo 3

The elephant portion of him is he will trumpet, "toot toot" a dejected trumpet and other various elephant noises. Seems to be around 6 different noises keeping with what Judy and Nick do. However, he has 12 different sounds total for both personalities.

Some back story on the mechanism. When you purchase him, his elephant nose/trunk is tagged to his face. Just cut and remove them, the mechanism for the elephant portion is in the trunk. For some reason, mine still goes off now and then, even when he has shed his disguise and the tags are cut. Same tags as what secures him in the box used there.

You can also tuck his elephant disguise behind in some velcro pockets it appears, so he just has his elephant body on and nothing else. Very detailed in what they put into the design!

Shed his elephant costume and he says the following as Finnick:

"Small mammal, big heart baby"

"Okay, one hug"

"Yeah, I'll give you a toot toot"

"She hustled you good"

"Did I hear you? I'm 95% ears"

"I'm a grown mammal, Fennec Fox"

And something I have never seen in a long long time, replaceable batteries for all of them. Yep, there is a velcro portion in the back to allow the battery pack to come out with both and you can swap them for fresh. All also have switches inside to turn them off when silence is prefered

>Nick: 2 AAA batteries

>Judy: 2 AAA batteries

>Finnick: 3 AAA batteries

Interestingly enough, I just pulled a failed Li-Ion battery from a small R/C plane that would be just about the right size for a rodent car. Image

So that's a 3.7 volt battery with a capacity of 250 milli-amp hours. We can fudge this number and say between both a slightly larger pack and advanced miniaturization, they use a 400mAh battery in a theoretical rodent-sized vehicle.

Now our drivetrain- A cellphone vibrator motor is about the size of motor you'd be able to use. It'd have to be a single motor with a gearbox driving the two front wheels, most likely, as I can't imagine managing to build a multi-motor drivetrain that's not going to fry your battery and they really don't need all wheel drive in Little Rodentia anyways.

So as we can see, that motor there uses 3v at 0.2 amps (200mA). With a good gearbox reduction, probably should be enough power to accelerate a vehicle that weighs less than 300 grams at a decent clip. But that's getting into a ton of force calculations that I reallllllllly don't want to do at the moment.

ANNNYWAY- we never want to draw 100% of our battery's capacity, because not only is the last 15% not usable due to low voltage, it's bad for the battery's longevity and a good way to overheat it and cause a short, leading to fires and death. Not good. So we should use, say, a 25% capacity buffer (Li-Ion should handle a 75% depth-of-discharge easily enough), so our 400mAh battery now becomes a 300mAh battery. Alright. That's how much energy we have available to us. Tack on a few milliamps for accessories and lighting, plus 5% conversion and discharge inefficiencies, and say there's about 280mAh available to the motor.

At "full" load, the motor should use 200 milliamps. In practice, it's going to use much more when accelerating (probably close to 275mA) and much less while cruising (maybe 100mA or so.) But as a running average, let's just call it a day and say the damn motor uses 200mA during normal driving. Yes, I'm a lazy engineer, so sue me.

That means the motor should be able to run for about an an hour and 24 minutes continuously. Again, fudge a safety factor in for heavy acceleration in city driving and other inefficiencies in the gearbox and wind resistance and other shit that I haven't totally accounted for, and let's just say you can get an hour of safe runtime out of your little electric rodent car. Sounds pretty good, yea?

Now, let's convert that to actual range. Let's pull some more numbers out of my ass, and say the tires on this car are 1cm in diameter. That's a circumference of 3.14cm, so the car can travel 3.14cm per rotation of the tire. The motor I linked has a free-speed of 1100rpm, but with a load on it (assuming the final gearbox stage is 1:1) it'll probably be closer to 1,000rpm. 3.14 time 1000 is 3,140cm per minute, or 28 meters per minute. In conventional terms, that's 1.88kph or 1.1mph. Being able to run the motor for about an hour means our equivelant range is also 1.88km or 1.1mi. That's probably not too bad in Little Rodentia, but for getting anywhere else that's a bloody slow ride to get not very far. And if you look at the scenes where we see rodent cars, both in LR and driving along the street where Nick is walking, 1.8kph probably isn't too far off from an average speed.

With this information, it's probably safe to say that there's no "one-car fits all" in Little Rodentia. our little theoretical car here would work just fine in LR which probably isn't even half a kilometer in it's longest dimension, but you'd need a different, much faster car for driving anywhere outside of LR. This makes the subway and/or pneumatic tube idea much more palatable for long distance transportation, since they can just zip along a nice, sealed tube at 40mph and be on the other side of the city in less than half an hour.

...Good lord that comment turned into a monster. Then again, I just got a new keyboard and love typing on it, so maybe that contributed to it's length... lol. I'm gonna go clean the house now.

Paper and pencil. Tablets are not really for practice, they're for when you have to get a job done, when you're making a comic or animation or something; with a sketchbook, you can go to the zoo and sketch the animals, you can go to drawing groups, all that - in fact, drawing groups did me a lot of good recently, highly recommend it.

Also, for that price range, the tablet you will get is what I call a drawing pad, and the experience of drawing on those is very off-putting; I would save it for when you have better skills, otherwise it's added difficulty when you've got problems enough already. If/when you're really feeling it, you can do what I did: go straight from pen and paper to a screen tablet, without going by the drawing pad phase. This is my Cintiq 13HD, it cost me about 800€, the experience of drawing on it is close enough to traditional art, it's a fantastic tool, and they will keep getting cheaper. You don't have to buy Wacom, though, there are cheaper alternatives and I'm starting to think maybe I should have gone for those instead of a Wacom. Oh well.

What you see here is a completely custom working and functioning DIY Zootopia Xing traffic light meant to replicate the original art on the Zootopia posters.

I want to make it clear I did not make this. The original creator is my good friend Ben aka HyenaOfdoom. I'll plug some links at the end.

Only two of these exist as far as we're aware in the world. One in the UK and now one in the U.S. (this one). The only main difference is the source of power.

So one question I always get asked, "where can I buy one?". Sorry to say but you can't buy one. Not only is a long tedious pain in the tail to make but Disney also wouldn't take too kindly to that. I rather not have either of us in cuffs, even if their Mickey Mouse ear shaped.

What you can do though is make one. Here's the instructions Ben put together, remember he's in the UK.

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1298643

U.S.? You're going to need that power source I mentioned earlier, I've been using this one.

Other than that I just want to give my thank you to Ben again for making this creation come to life. You can follow him at: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/hyena69/ ..tell him Statik sent you. This isn't the only Zootopia project he's been working on, you heard that here first. :)

Even master artists feel like they don't know what they're doing. The more you learn, the more you realize is left to learn. There is no point where you go from someone who can't draw to someone who can. It's just something you keep getting better at the more you practice and study. Copying from reference is a great place to start, keep at it. and don't be afraid to ask for critique if you really get stuck.

Just do what you can now, and as you improve it will get more fun and less frustrating.

There's also another tie-in book, and it seems to be some sort of storyboard-esque/comic retelling of the film. I ordered it as well and will share more details once I get it.

According to Amazon, the Graphic Novel includes a prequel and has 240 pages. But 240 sounds very unlikely. Whatever they meant by prequel, it's not present in this version (and hopefully it won't be just these short comics either).
