Tons and tons and tons of books - look under the "available for less money" links for "used" paperback versions that will make them super affordable and they usually come nearly brand new!
This is a basic list with mid-grade item recommendations as links. You can definitely shop around and find better deals, but this will give you a place to start your shopping excursion from. Considering hitting up a local restaurant supply store for really good deals.
I would love these ramekins because I really want to start baking and cooking more this summer. During the school year, I have not been able to bake much, and I love making yummy food for my husband and I. I found some great recipes that I need these ramekins for. Thanks for the contest!
If you want a chocolate creme brulee, do this one with Grand Marnier.
http://www.food.com/recipe/chocolate-and-grand-marnier-creme-brul-e-176055
It is the single greatest dessert I've ever eaten.
Also, in my opinion, when cooking creme brulee it's not just about the recipe. The shape of the ramekin is really important. I use these shallow oval ramekins, which gives you more surface area for the crispy flambeed goodness. Plus, it's not a massive amount, so you can enjoy it and not hate yourself afterwards.
As a guy that like cooking and gadgets here are my suggestions:
Oh god, yes :P. The current things we use to hold sauces are... well, honestly, they're just little plates much more fit for being ashtrays than shoyu bowls. Ramikens would help out a lot!
It is an excellent idea, but if you want a low effort dessert that will let you fuck then do this:
Alternatively, just set the ramekins on top of a dish towel in a caserole dish. Neat dish concept though, and the price is pretty good.
I'd probably still just go this route...
http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-International-Porcelain-Stacking-Ramekins/dp/B0000DZ175/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1381734761&sr=8-5&keywords=ramekins+6+oz
They're called ramekins and they're actually awesome to have at home. If you have multiple items on a plate and only want a sauce on one they're perfect.
I also recommend trying a bain-marie. You can put a kitchen towel in the bottom of a large pan, add the ramekins and water, and bake. (The towel might not be necessary, but it doesn't hurt.) You can even buy convenient sets like these:
https://www.amazon.com/Chicago-Metallic-Professional-6-Piece-77106/dp/B000A3N7Q6
(It's just a plain ol' 8-inch square cake pan, four ordinary ramekins, and the special wire rack to hold them off the bottom.)
If you’re interested in egg air fryn’ lemme suggest these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BI8NAK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ODGzDbHV8V4T0
Just plop your eggs in it, add a couple table spoons of water, and slice of butter or any other seasoning and you got yourself a perfect eggs in 6 minutes
We prepare ours in house, it's about as fresh as I'm going to be able to make it and have it at your table in an acceptable time frame.
Now stuff it all into one of these bad boys, throw it in a 500 degree oven, and enjoy in roughly 15 minutes. I can make about 40 in 2 hours flat starting with raw, unadultered produce/meat.
Bathroom ideas! I love it. I thought of doing something similar with those aluminum sauce cups for my restrooms. But shot glasses could work too!
I used to see stoneware ramekins like these on cooking shows. They come in many sizes and some have lids. They are also oven safe, so you can do more than just prepare your mise en place with them.
Ramekins are really cheap so it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a set. (They're super-versatile and can handle ovens, freezers, and dishwashers!) If you want something close to fool-proof that will definitely look presentable, that's your best bet.
If you want to try this in a full-size pie pan, you can try modifying your pumpkin pie filling recipe a bit. (My concern is that the slices will get a little wobbly and won't hold their shape when you cut them.) Adding an extra egg and reducing the amount of liquid could do the trick, but you may need to do a little troubleshooting.
I believe I have these ones in either 6 or 8 oz. I can't say whether these count as expensive or cheap, but they are really good quality. The 4 I have have lasted me more than 4 years and are still in like-new condition after being run through the oven, microwave, and dishwasher hundreds of times.

Update: I decided to try ramekins with lids, see link below. These worked fairly well, though I pulled the lid slightly off one (of six) trying to cram them into my cooler/bath, so that one was ruined. I "burped" some to force the air out, and left others alone: the burped ones were perfect, and a little bit of water got into one that I left unburped, but it poured off and didn't hurt the result.
Searing (with MAPP) was a breeze, no problem as expected. I actually put a bit too much crust on: did four light layers and two or three would have been enough.
The lids make it really nice to chill and refrigerate too, I can stack them three high so don't need much fridge space. I will definitely be doing this again!

Jewelry dishes. On Amazon, you can buy a set of 6 ramekins for $20. Find a friend with a vinyl cutter and have them add each attendant's name to them. Depending on how much the names cost, it can be quite inexpensive.
If you're like me and want ones that stack well and are willing to spend a couple extra bucks: Prepworks by Progressive Porcelain Stacking Ramekins - Set of 6
Steam those bitches!
> Poach eggs in a steamer basket
> After trying all the traditional ways to poach eggs, such as adding vinegar to water and using those silly little metal circles, my husband came up with this method. He puts my steamer basket in its pan and brings about an inch of water to a boil. He then butters four or five ramekins, cracks an egg into each one, and puts the ramekins in the steamer basket. He covers the pot and “steams” the eggs for exactly 3.5 minutes and ends up with moist, perfectly rounded poached eggs to use in eggs Benedict, or whatever recipe calls for them.
I use these silicone ramekins, they're smaller than a standard porcelain ramekin and work better in my opinion.

Sure you can! Try some ramekins. There has to be a pyrex you can nestle in that thing.
Try these:
http://www.amazon.com/Pyrex-Bakeware-6-Ounce-Clear-Custard/dp/B0000CF3UK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376447919&sr=8-1&keywords=custard+cups

There are plenty of ceramics that are broiler safe. Everything from ramekin to 4 quart.
Broiling is used to make the crust on creme brulee at home without a torch.
If she cooks, I can think of a few things for the kitchen.
Or even food like rotini or raspberry jam.
Oh darn! I think these ones from Amazon are the same size and it’s about the same price per cup as I got them!
That's a ramekin! You can get all different sizes on Amazon. Here's some that might work for your souffles.
Or just by googling 'ramekin', you might be able to find where they sell them near you.
I saw this Crème brûlée set on Amazon and I couldn't wait to try it. Recipe in the imgur post. I'll probably buy another one for when I need to make more than 4.
I would add a teaspoon of water to each egg cup and then find a sheet pan that fits as a semi-tight lid. The steam will cook the top of the eggs.
I have ceramic ramekins and the ones for my wife I put a plate over, with the water with the egg.
A suggestion for ramekins. 4oz but you can also find larger and smaller cups on Amazon

I actually use ramekins since they're just sitting around otherwise. Less clutter that way.

and this remkins set
Or buy a dozen re-usable ones:

I make eggs in the microwave in a ramekin .... whip egg with fork, microwave for 30 seconds, stir in salt/pepper and shredded cheese (or whatever else you like), microwave for 30 more seconds. Eat. Also works in a coffee mug.
