Yes! I bought a memory foam mattress for the pack n play (that she never used) so I put that in the living room with one of these types of [pillows] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GZB5SJZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pknvDb94DM8TG)
and she always brings her toys over and ends up hanging out on it!
I'm hoping to avoid the same association though with her sleep futon. I have the futon surround with a play gate with only one stuffed bunny inside the gated area. I've been only showing her this bunny during sleepy time hoping she associates it was sleep... I don't think it's clicked yet but oh well, I'll keep trying lol. I'm hoping that if I take the fun out of that room it will help her want to stay asleep.
I don't know if any of that will help at all though lol
Good luck! I have a quad MPFL reconstruction, tibia realignment, and some cartilage repair on the 26th! I'm nervous as hell. I've had knee problems for years now. I'll suggest some amazon purchases that will make your time in bed way way:
My butt gets so numb being bed ridden and sometimes it is hard to sleep through back pain when you can't lay on your side. The option to sleep upright is very relieving. Also, just have lots of pillows to tweak your positioning is extremely helpful.
Don't get non fleece ones because they are slippery
The folding chair will fit over the edge of the tub so someone can help you wash your hair when getting in the bath is too much. Then the stool will make it easier and more enjoyable to actually bathe when you can.
Also, don't be embarrassed to have to do things in really ridiculous ways. The last time I dislocated my knee I had a lot of pain and I couldn't be upright for a couple days without basically having a mental breakdown. I brushed my teeth in bed and would just spit water into a large Tupperware. Also, I kept a container of sanitary wipes when it was too much to get up and wash my hands for something like handling a cat treat or such. Sometimes instead of washing my face I would just use a toner and cotton pads I kept next to me. Lastly, the best advise is probably don't be afraid to ask for help!
Heya! I had surgery yesterday and everything is going surprisingly smooth! I have almost no pain since I’m up on my medications, and everyone at the centre is soooo so nice and reassuring. You sign in and can go in a pre op room to wait with whoever comes with you (if you want them there) and Genoway, the nurse, and the anesthesiologist all come to talk to you separately and give you lots of time to ask any questions you want to. Then you go in to the OR and lay down, and then you basically just wake up! They’ll keep you for an hour or so and then you’re free to go.
The first day you’re gonna be super out of it and walking around like Frankenstein, but I’m already ok enough to get up and down off the couch on my own and go to the bathroom and stuff. Someone in this thread recommended getting an airplane neck pillow and I 1000% second that. I’ve been sleeping sitting up with a armchair pillow thing (https://www.amazon.ca/Milliard-Reading-Pillow-Shredded-Memory/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3FLZU2CCE61LB&keywords=milliard+reading+pillow&qid=1556637693&s=gateway&sprefix=milliaed+rea&sr=8-2 ) and a neck pillow and it’s been way more comfortable than I thought!
You’re gonna do totally awesome 💪 I can’t say anything for results yet, but the surgery itself was not as bad or scary as I thought it’d be, haha
If affordable and you can get it in time.
He'll have to sleep on his back until his drains are out, about a week. I found that really uncomfortable unless I was propped into a half-seated position. An armchair pillow was a godsend, plus it's still really comfortable and I use it regularly.
He also won't be able to shower until the drains are out. Seriously, they were the only thing that let me feel not totally gross. Maybe dry shampoo too if he has help and is comfortable letting someone else wash his hair, but otherwise it still requires raising his arms above his head.
Coming from a friend, I think I would have appreciated these the most. They feel celebratory as well as practical. And recovery is boring, housebound with limited mobility.
Fill a USB stick with a bunch of movies and TV shows he has been wanting to watch. Or get him some old school paperback books, or a gift card for some games on Steam.
Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, take my advice with a grain of salt.
My wife suffers from chronic back due to an improperly placed epidural. One thing that helped her was a back brace with lumbar belt. Here's one for reference:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GVO2PVK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3OoQBb524XVBD
There are also bed assist handles. They are secured to the bed, and help the person pull themselves up:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JIJRZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aXoQBbHKRNP8W
Finally, you might consider a reading/seat pillow. It supports you so that you can rest sitting up. My grandmother used one of these to help get out of bed when her sciatica prevented her from being able to get off her back: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-YoQBbNP02W5K
I'm not sure about exosuits for the elderly, I know that they exist, but i don't know any suppliers. Still, a combination of these (maybe all of them) may help. Best of luck.
I got this recliner cushion from Amazon and never regretted it for an instant: https://www.amazon.com/LINENSPA-Shredded-Foam-Reading-Pillow/dp/B0117SNG0O/ I did need an extra pillow or two to help, but that thing is seriously comfortable for having to sleep upright/reclined. Kind of pricey but SO worth sleeping in comfort.
I also got a lap tray to put my food/drinks/laptop on while in bed: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017T39EEI/
Maybe if you have a couch, that would work? Could maybe try pairing it with a pillow like this for added comfort: https://www.amazon.com/Linenspa-Shredded-Foam-Reading-Pillow/dp/B073DJFYB1/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549470769&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=sitting+pillow+with+arms&dpPl=1&dpID=41RdKFjB0XL&ref=plSrch
Either way, good luck and I hope you feel better soon! The first week is tough but it will get better soon. :)
This is my Macaw Pogo He's such a lover!!
I'd love this for my daughter.
Shine on, sweet glitter princess
Thanks for the contest!!
It’s a wedge reading pillow with a pocket on the side perfect for our tv remote! Honestly, the best purchase for the room because our individual reading pillows from college were getting old and gross. This one has been a great replacement and helps shield the cold from the window behind the bed during the winter.
I think you're better off buying a day bed (here are some great looking options) and adding some removable cushions (like these, or a combo of body pillow / lumbar pillow / bolsters) to make it look and work like a sofa during the day. If you need extra seating, add a petite armchair and/or an upholstered ottoman.
Your inspiration image looks great, but it was taken from a low height and that disguises the proportions. It's going to be massive in your room, and make it feel crowded. If you haven't already, download sketchup and build a 3d model - you'll get a much better idea of how much space it's going to take up. I think you'll be happier if you leave some emptiness between the architectural elements (doors & windows) and furniture. Not to mention it'll save you from spending tons on custom work or living a DIY nightmare.
BedLounge (Regular Size, 100% Cotton Cover, Hunter Green Color: The Ultimate Reading Pillow, Back Support Pillow, TV Pillow and More ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006VQQNYE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qJm1Db9GRDZ01
I got this one on Amazon and love it! I'm a heavier gal and found the kind with looser arms like that to not work for me. This one is expensive but it was great for pregnancy and now breastfeeding (for me at least).
I roll it up in a yoga mat and tie that with a belt to an arm pillow like this: https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Home-Bedrest-Reading-Posture/dp/B00WY8I8HS
The result is a large weighted structure with what looks like legs & the FL where the crotch would be.
Works really well, the FL is very stable and doesnt move, mount is easy to lift and reposition, i can change the angle by adding pillows under it and I can pull out one FL and swap it with a second one mid session if I wanted. I can even wedge a second FL between the bottom of the mount and the pillow below it for some V&A action.
if you want to just listen in bed, sure why not. You can prop up some pillows or use one of these
Sleeping with any headphones is not a good idea, but I guess wearing headphones in bed isn't a new idea because products like these have been around for a long time. Today's equivalent is something like this.
Personally, I'm not a fan of wearing headphones in bed. Maybe if you don't want to wake your significant other when you are watching something on TV after they are asleep.
I HIGHLY recommend this one! I got it on an Amazon lightning deal too, so the price was so right. It comes with two detachable roll pillows, which u use one for neck support and one to prop under baby's head when I'm feeding. It's cozy and firm enough, and it has pockets!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VYC8399/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qaf1DbCVXMWM2
I also think flying a grandma or two in would be a good idea. If you have two available, you could fly one in for a few weeks and then the other.
Also, you might brainstorm some ideas for making things easier for your wife. You might get one of these co-sleepers:
http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Sleeper-Portable-Bedding/dp/B005ASKQ42/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1341170764&sr=8-11&keywords=co-sleeper
So she can stay in bed and just pick the baby up from a sitting up position. Of course, she needs to be able to sit up in bed, so she needs, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Brentwood-Originals-Porter-Bedrest-Brown/dp/B005CTU3YW/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1341170946&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=reading+bed+pillow
if she doesn't have one. You can also keep just the pad from the changing table by her and she can use it to change the baby right on the bed. Keep everything she needs right nearby. Baby does't have to leave the bed. Newborns don't need to go anywhere anyway.
I've always wanted one of those fancy bed pillows with the arm rests, something like this. of course, there's much cheaper ones that would be just as great to have
I have one of those reading cushions with arms that I use in bed and it helps a lot. Like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hjAWCbMQ02NPP
But the one I have was like $12 at Walmart. I'd there breast friend pillow isn't working for you don't bother. I sometimes use a regular throw pillow or just my arms. Keep trying with side lying every few days, my guy hated it at first but now it's his favorite (and mine!).
A bedrest. I used mine every day since I didn't like sitting at my desk!
I would really really like this pocket Moleskine.
Would you like a falafel with that?
Something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OCTIDb43SSQA4
I've always called these husband pillows lol. But maybe we were talking about the same thing?
Make sure she’s got good posture/support if she’s breastfeeding in bed! It’s probably the source of her back problems. It’s handy to have a pillow like this one for back support and a nursing pillow to hold baby up so she isn’t hunching over.
I got mine at walmart, so it was cheaper than this, but this is the concept. I've always wanted to try one, so today's my lucky day! https://www.amazon.com/LINENSPA-Shredded-Foam-Reading-Pillow/dp/B0117SNG0O/ref=sr_1_1?s=bedbath&ie=UTF8&qid=1500406727&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=reading+pillow&psc=1
My surgeon told me 45 degree angle is good. I got one of these kind of pillows and a small neck roll. It works okay.
Your situation sounds a lot like mine. We have a Malm queen size bed, a Malm dresser (the 6-drawer one), and a crib. We're using the dresser as a changing table, just stuck a changing pad on top and it works perfectly. A glider absolutely would not fit our space, sadly. I have a reading pillow on the bed I use when I'm feeding her.
Also I have one of these, works better
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007H3F5HQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1499313853&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=bed+backrest+with+arms&dpPl=1&dpID=41Art7Odm9L&ref=plSrch
Someone linked this elsewhere for an entirely different topic and it reminded me of this convo. Would look nice with cushions in front of it, very couchlike.
Oh! I’ve been through that exact thing! If you have the chance, try to find one of those bed top back rests with arms. They’re firm enough to have the same result and don’t take up much space. Put the arms facing up and the top up to your bottom. Does the same thing.
Just a thought.

Twin XLs are a pain all on their own.
I reccomend backrest pillows:

Bruh, just get one of these
(Incoming wall of text/huge link because I'm on mobile)
She had an old one from a previous surgery but it was similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0117SNG0O/ref=mh_s9_acsd_top_bFert_c_x_1_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-4&pf_rd_r=V3EBBVJKQPVYQ23FCFNG&pf_rd_t=30901&pf_rd_p=58a7c392-e187-580a-9995-afed7b4b7f90&pf_rd_i=3732021

Back in the day (70s/80s) these were everywhere. I had no idea what they were called, but they still do exist:

In addition to the others here who mention posture extends to lying, I'd also mention blood flow. When I get migraines and reach the postdrome phase, there's a period where if I bend over I get stabbing pains straight through the top of my head.
It's very possible the change in blood flow from lying down may be exacerbating your migraine. Do you have a recliner chair that you could lay in to keep your head above your body to test (or a large enough bean bag chair). Or a sitting pillow (like this).
