You might do a deep dive into /r/headphones and you could ask in /r/headphoneadvice — I think what they’ll tell you is that if you were to buy a “gaming headset” with your $300 budget, you end up sacrificing some of your potential sound quality in order to get that microphone attached.

Whereas you can buy a really nice pair of headphones and then spend $30 or less on a V-Moda BoomPro Mic (or something like it) which basically acts as the cord between your headphones and headphone jack and has a flexible boom mic, a volume dial, and a mute switch. There’s another one that you can stick to the side of one of the headphones either with a magnet or sticky too, depending on the type of headphones you buy and what you prefer.

I bought a pair of Fidelio X2/HR headphones that cost $325 just over a year ago, but you can get them for $150 now. Really comfortable band that operates sort of like ski goggles so it doesn’t squish your head, and will fit a fucking watermelon if it needs to. I bought them because I was looking for a “unicorn” that I could wear for movies, games, TV, and music. They sound fantastic, though they’re even better when you plug them into an amp/DAC (I plug them into my home theater receiver’s headphone out jack and crank it up).

Another really highly recommended one are these Sennheiser HD600 Open Back Headphones for $300 from Amazon Prime right now.

Or there’s these BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pro Studio Monitor Headphones that come with an Antlion ModMic so you don’t have to buy the microphone separately, and they’re $189 from Amazon right now, and you could spend the remainder of the $300 on a dedicated headphone amp/DAC that will boost the volume/bass/output and help you get the most from them.

Another popular recommendation is a more traditional gaming headset — the Arctis Steel Series Pro + Game DAC for only $175 — the DAC boosts the headphones and provides DTS:X Headphone (for virtual surround sound). It’s the wired edition, but you could pay more for a wireless if you want.

Anyhow, maybe this will be helpful and give you a couple ideas, but they should help you more in /r/headphone advice if you tell them your budget and what you’re trying to do and what you’re looking for. Read the sidebar so you know the posting format so more people will respond. Hope you enjoy whatever you get! A home theater system is worth saving up for, and eventually you can turn a 5.1 system into a Dolby Atmos system by adding two height channels (so long as you invest in a receiver that is Atmos capable from the start). Come the PS5, I’m hopeful they’ll support it and DTS:X as the XBOX One does now, but they’re also working on their own 3D sound format. Go to a home theater store and have them demo DolbyAtmos for you (especially on a game if possible) and you’ll see how much it adds. You can get a decent home theater system for far cheaper than you used to be able to, but it’s worth it to save up the money and buy something you’re really gonna be proud to own for at least 5-10 years if not longer.

An overview of all submitted deals will be collected in this sticky comment. If you find that one of the deal has run out please let me know. Off-topic top level comments asking what to buy will be removed, deals that are missing some of the info will not make it to the list. I have changed the the suggested sorting to "new".

Currently in the market for a new pair of headphones and wondering which pair would be best. I'm quite a noob in the headphone department, (currently owning the Cloud 1s). I have no idea about the high/lows and specs of those headphones so i would love if you could enlighten me :D. For reference, I listen to a wide variety of headphones but i personally love deep house and Rap.

I spotted the following headphones that would possibly interest me. I would take the Fidelio x2's but they are way to costly in Canada.

Sorry for the wall of text and I hope you can help me

Sorry for my poor english, I am from Quebec in Canada so please bare with me.

Open/Closed I have had some of both in the past and loved either one of them. I have closed headphones and find my ears getting a bit sweaty with time and i also wear Gunnars when i'm on my PC so I think open might be a better idea but if u have any must-have suggestions with the closed-back type headphones, please give me them :D

The prices are in CAD, max i could go is around 250 cad

u/D0PETHR0NE · 2 pointsr/ZReviews

It's a shame really. I'd save up a little bit say around 150$ then you get alot more options. The suggestions I give you depend alot on where you live and whether you want to go used or not.

Shure 840's. They dip in and out of around of 100$ (EU) but are one of the few items that are actually cheaper in EU despite being an american company ?
If you don't want to buy secondhand it's little brother the 440's are probably worthwhile as well.

Takstar Pro82 Though no perfect isolation, great comfort and a bass slider.

HiFiMAN Edition S Somewhat over your budget and isolation is not perfect but it does double duty as both open and closed back. Great for travelling.

Status Audio CB-1, you mentioned yourself.

Or if you really want it cheap and don't care about getting seen with them. Superlux HD662 or Superlux hd669 The latter always go in and out of stock at Amazon, if you live in EU Thomann always has them.

Monoprice Retro's if Amazon doesn't have them in stock check with monoprice.com, currently they're both out of stock.
Like the Superlux' cans, something for home use only.

Senheiser 598 cs don't know how long this offer will last.

1MORE H1707 chi-fi but I own this pair and they're great for on the go although they leak just a little bit if you turn up the volume.

u/FatEskimo97 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Ok well I'll just recommend the headphones I have, then. Or at least an earlier iteration of them which I've heard sounds just a bit better (I'll link both and tell you the differences). They have the same drivers as the Audio Technica ATH-m50, but in a 53mm version and in a much more robust and durable headphone. Only downside is the padding is kind of thin so it could start to be uncomfortable after a lot of hours, but for me it's not so bad that I really care. They also are kind of big, so if you have a small head just tell me and I'll recommend something else. Anyway, here's the headphones:

  • Allen and Heath Xone XD-53: http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Heath-Xone-Professional-Monitoring/dp/B000WA3DLG

Original version of these cans. I've heard these sound a bit better than the second version, but they don't have a detachable cable, so if the detachability of the cable matters for you, get the second ones

  • Allen and Heath Xone XD2-53: http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Heath-XD2-53-Professional-Monitoring/dp/B00797YYV8

See that "2" in there? These are the second. Same look and durability but with a slightly different gunmetal finish. They have a detachable cable and come with a 3.5mm (the usual connector on headphones that plugs into phones and stuff) to 1/4 inch (connector that plugs into guitar/headphone amps) adapter. The sound is apparently not as good as the XD-53, but I own these ones and love them.

I'll answer any other questions, but make sure you read this whole thing first.

u/lejazzvp · 1 pointr/Saxophonics

The problem is that whatever you use, you'll keep hearing your horn relatively loudly because of bone conduction. Mouthpiece vibrations are transmitted through your teeth, skull and into your inner ear. Deep, custom molded in-ear monitors will reduce this effect, but it will still be there.

For a relatively cheap solution, get a set of drummer's headphones like THESE or THESE.

However:

> I'd like to monitor the input to get a better idea of what I actually sound like, since obviously it sounds very different from what I think I sound like.

this won't really work anyways. A lot of information is lost when recording a saxophone. That's not only true for professional studio recordings (which use top of the line spaces with carefully controlled acoustics, and very expensive gear), but even more if you use a cheap mic in your home. I've had the opportunity to hear Chris Potter, Donny McCaslin and Ben Van Gelder up close, unaccompanied, and none of them sounded like how they do on tape.

If you want a more "true-to-life" recording of your horn, place the mic as far away from your horn as possible so it picks up a lot of room sound and resonance.

Closed headphones for e-drums?

Budget - Up to 200€/270$.

Location - Finland. Can easily order from anywhere in the EU. Also traveling to New York for one week soon so I might get a pair there.

Source - Headphone amp on E-drums (Yamaha DTX500) and O2.

Requirements for Isolation - Some isolation would be nice, so I wouldn't hear the pads on the drums.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear, closed and with straight cable. I'd also prefer Beyerdynamic.

Preferred tonal balance - Balanced, with solid bass (gotta lock in with that bass guitar!).

Past headphones - Beyer DT-880, Sennheiser HD595

Preferred Music - Rock and some electronic.

Headphones I've looked into/find interesting:

u/danielpmorgado · 1 pointr/headphones
  • Budget - 60€
  • Source - Computer / iPhone
  • Requirements for Isolation - I need isolation, not for me but for my work colleagues. I don't want to disturbe them with my music, and I want to be able to listen music at reasonable volumes.
  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - Probably not. Just in work/home.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized (over ear?)
  • Preferred tonal balance - Balanced
  • Past headphones - Sennheiser HD201
  • Preferred Music - Rock / Metal / Classic / Instrumental
  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Durability and one sided cable.
  • Location - Portugal. I can buy from amazon of european countries

After reading some opinions, I have this two on my final list:

  • [AKG K72] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K72-K72%C2%A0Studio-Headphones/dp/B01BLSAFHC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481505264&sr=8-2&keywords=akg+k72)

  • Sennheiser HD451

Are they any good? The Senn's look a lot better than the AKG's (despite that blue ring).

    Thank you guys!

Behringer HPS5000 Closed-Type High-Performance Studio Headphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CCIVDO/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_H5LCub1A45KDR

I just love Behringer. These aren't very comfortable though. If you wear them behind your neck somehow they fit better. Depends what you want to do. Ok for monitoring and WAY cheaper than any other so you can use the rest of the dough for headphone amplification or pedals or whatever you'd like. Just my 2cts

u/Domovoi0ng · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Everybody can experience audiophilia, not like audiophiles have super special fairy ears. (yes some people are more sensitive tho) You just need to experience it. Difference between 192 and 320 is actually quite a lot, depending on the music. Some songs won't make any difference because they're not that complex. Yes the bottleneck is real tho.

Doesn't have to be expensive. Plenty of good entry level stuff. The ever popular ath m40x, some good USB dacs, 150$ is more than enough for a huge leap in audio quality from your everyday fare. Gaming headphones are 90% a scam.

So yes, most people CAN.

bro /u/OC2k16 /(\^_\^)/

(My setup rn is akg 7xx cans 300$ and Fiio e10k dac 100$ . Saved for a while for this! Shits expensive in india.)

Edit: Found This listing on amazon.com

u/FastStepan · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget: sub 100$

Source: PC, sometimes smartphone.

Requirements for isolation: prefer open, since they are more comfortable, but open to compromises.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public: no.

Preferred type of headphone: full size preferred

Preferred type of balance: balanced, but i think at this price point I'll take what sounds best.

Past headphones: Reloop RH 10. Liked them in terms of sound, but they turned out to be very fragile.

Preferred Music: EDM

Location: Ukraine, but the purchase itself will be probably within the US. Might look at the EU, if the deal is right, not familiar with the market though.

Potential headphones: shp9500(s), OB-1 (really nice price on this one on Amazon 50 bux only), ATH-M30x, AKG K 240, also cool deal for Sennheiser HD 200 PRO right now.

u/I3igAl · 2 pointsr/headphones

I Really enjoy my Beyer DT 770. I bought them when I needed isolation myself, and also when I couldn't disturb my wife in the same room. When I have the 770 on, my wife has to bump my chair or literally yell for me to get my attention. The 80ohm version has the best bass and is still low enough impedance that onboard audio can still push them to reasonable volume, although depending on how old your PC is I would recommend also getting a basic dac/amp.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XKQQ57

If you need truly extreme isolation, the 770 also comes in a model that is made for drummers, with pleather pads instead of velour and some other material changes to increase isolation. I have no idea how they sound but they shouldnt be too much different than the normal 770.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000F4KWQI

EDIT: forgot to talk about comfort. these things are very nice. I have a huge head and it was a struggle finding something that fit nicely, coming from gaming headsets. alot of things I tried fit my head but then my ears would be pinched, or the headband wasnt big enough. Beyers have a giant round opening and go fully around the ear, and plenty of adjustment size in the headband. I also wear glasses and these do not pinch hard on the temple or sound bad with the partially broken seal.

EDIT EDIT: also mention Custom One Pro / Custom One Studio. updated models that look different but supposedly sound the same. cant say never tried them, but coming with a detachable cable is nice (i modded my 770 for detachable)

u/G--Sus · 2 pointsr/gadgets

Sound engineer here, I also DJ every now and then (been doing it for about 7 years so I've been through quite a few pairs of headphones).

I wouldn't recommend anything by Bose, they've got infinitely better components in their marketing team than in their cans. As far as not letting external sounds get through your phones, I've found 2 pairs of headphones which stand above others I've tried.

These would be Allen & Heath's Xone XD-53 and Sennheiser's HD 25. They're favorites among many of the best DJ's in the world for good reason, both of these are built like tanks and have individual replaceable parts if something were to happen. As for sound quality, they might be a bit bass heavy since their mainly used to listen to electronic music but still sound great overall.

I can vouch for their ability to drown out unwanted external noises. I've used them in all types of live settings where the environment can get extremely loud and they've never failed to provide clarity.

u/inspectah_shrek · 1 pointr/DJs

If you want something similar to the ubiqutious Sennheiser HD-25's, a much cheaper alternative are the Superlux HD-562s. These are clones of the HD-25's so the design and sound are nearly identical, not a perfect copy but good enough for DJing. The best part is that they are only $30! I own a pair of these and I like them so far.

This review compares these two headphones along with a third one.

Currently have $50 in paypal credit - wondering if I should pull the trigger on one of the more expensive combos or be satisfied with a cheaper option. The AD500X currently looks the most promising to me but I'd like other opinions.

Thanks in advance!

I'm looking at buying a Yamaha P125B/stool/headphones and a stand. The stand-type I'm looking at is something like this. I'm wondering how stable a stand like this would be with the P125B. The other stand type is this but it's quite a bit more expensive and it seems like it may take up more room. Is the difference between these stands enough to justify the price difference?

Also as I'd primarily be listening to the piano through headphones, I'm wondering what the best pair would be between this and this.

u/OverExclamated · 0 pointsr/pcmasterrace

> I live in a room with my brother so i dont want to bother him

So you're probably going to want a closed-back headphone.

You can look at something like the BD Custom Studio or AT MSR7 or B&O H6gen.2 or Sivga SV006 or AKG K553mkII. Or a semi-open like the AT WS1100is could work too.

Options kind of depend on what you want to do for a mic.

Whatever you choose, make sure it's comfortable and has an easily replaceable cable and earpads.

Awesome! I'm definitely checking these out. Is it this one? https://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-DT-150-250-GREY-Monitoring-Headphone-Environments/dp/B000LDPP1K And yes, looks are the last thing on my priority list.

Out of curiosity, how's the sound leakage on those?

What's your opinion on Audio Technica ATH-M50X? Here's a bundle with the latest modmic at a good price:

https://www.amazon.com/Technica-Professional-Headphone-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B073VYLPY5/

Here's a bundle with a DT 770 but the modmic is 4 instead of 5 (weaker magnet and worse performance?) and I'm unclear as to whether 250 ohm is a good or a bad thing (I have an Asus Hero IX motherboard).

https://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Headphone-Antlion-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B01N0EAJ3G/

Actually it's available at 80 ohm too. Which is best for performance given my situation?

Some people like to buy the combo, DAC + AMP, the cheapest, yet very good, are Magini + Modi.

Recently, they released the new Audio-Technica ATH-M40x (2014 Version) - $99 on Amazon. People say that this is "the new M50x", because nowadays the price/performance of the m50x is getting lower (ATH raised the price), people say that performance and quality of this new one is very good. I myself am thinking of getting this M40x.

A bombastic deal for you would be this one, M40x (2014 Version) + FiiO E6 Portable AMP, then later you can get the DAC + AMP for your PC if you feel the need. Too bad I don't live in the US, and I'll be traviling only on JAN/2015, hope this deal continues, I'd get it instantly... =(

Assuming you don't have an amp:

Closed - DT 770 Pro 80 ohm or AKG K553

Open - Fidelio X2HR

If you have a Guitar Center near you, they should have the DT 770 and K553 for you to demo. They also have the Audio Technica M50X, but I personally didn't like them. I think they're supposed to have the X2HR too, but my local location didn't have it available.

The X2HR and K553 are very easy to drive (also detachable/replaceable cables), and you should be okay with the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm even without an amp.

The best 'Headset' is an actual headphone with a separate mic

Amazon has a bundle right now. M40X + Modmic for 129$ or a M50x + Modmic for 169$

I have heard very interesting things about the Somic Mh463s. They look to be decent neutral cans, with good build quality for the buck. Thinking about investing in a pair.

u/Grimm_wolfe · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget: under $200
Source: PS4, iPhone 8, PC
Public: sporadically
Type: over ear, closed back
Past headphones: Hyper X Cloud
Preferred Music: Rock, Electronic

Currently trying to decide between these two unless anyone has any experience/suggestions:

  1. V-Moda LP2 LE

  2. Audio-Technica ATH-M40x

With 1 I would probably get the v-mods boompro mic for the mute button.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I know that Beyerdynamic make single-sided headphones. Are you looking for something like the DT252? They are the single ear version of the DT250 which I thought was good (but I have not tested the 252). Then there is the single sided version of the DT100, the DT102. Beware, these are studio monitors so they might sound neutral, almost analytical and dry.

search Head Fi for Somic MH463 and read what they say about it...I love mine and listen to them only, out of 20+ pairs...They sound that good...https://www.amazon.com/Somic-MH438-MH463-Studio-Headphones/dp/B00F8VM4PK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1450009406&sr=8-1&keywords=somic+mh463

I won a CEntrance DACport slim from Massdrop a year or so ago and I use it to power my DT 770 pro LEs. Works great, no complaints.

u/NicoC72 · 1 pointr/3DS

Try these. They are Superlux knock offs of a Sennheiser pair of headphones and are supposed to be pretty indestructible. Here is a review of them compared to the actual Sennheisers and another set of on ear cans.

u/AntoineFadavi · 1 pointr/drums

I bought them about a year ago but unfortunately I didn't seem to like them because they didn't had as much bass and comfort. So I bought these instead, which are made in the same factory and their sound is MUCH better! : http://www.amazon.com/KAT-Percussion-KTUI26-Isolation-Headphones/dp/B00FONJ6AI/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1412600500&sr=8-12&keywords=kat+percussion

u/CharlesBrOakley · 1 pointr/Beatmatch

Love the HD-25's as well but the price tag is steep for me so i got these from Superlux with essentially the exact same design and performance. I watched and read a lot of reviews on these before buying and for under $30 i could not justify the Sennheisers.

headphone people: how much of an improvement would a DAC+amp combo be over MOBO sound with these beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80 ohm?

so far it's ok with MOBO but looking for other opinions

u/churtchill · 1 pointr/headphones

Something like the Beyerdynamic DT102 then?

u/KingDevlin · 1 pointr/battlestations

No that'd be cool, theyre the gun metal color

u/KingOCarrotFlowers · 1 pointr/rawdenim

These are my daily driver headphones--they're not what I'd call ultra portable, but they do fold up, and the sound quality is quite good. They block sound, but there's no active cancellation.

They're over-ear though, which you may not like (but I do).

u/ZeosPantera · 1 pointr/audiophile

Hrm.. So I buy and send you $100 headphones and you send me the 225i's.

Or are you talking about the more expensive at's.
