I take a four prong approach.

  • Make sure your place gets plenty of ventilation, leave a window cracked when you head out (envrionmentally permitting, of course.
  • Plants! They clear the air and smell pretty good.
  • I use a carbon bag to absorb foul scents. When I first heard of it I thought it was witchcraft, but it actually works.
  • Finally, reed diffusers are pretty neat for adding some subtle fragrance. Currently I have this one

Check out a diffuser.... There are may options that are less expensive but this was at the top of the amazon google.

A jar and some skewers and some vanilla extract will be a lot less than an essential oil and the $11 "sticks in a jar" that I linked.

Happy smelling :)

Afraid I can't help with the pets, but I discovered this just yesterday: reed diffusers are like God's gift to the lazy people. It's essentially a bunch of sticks you keep soaked in essential oils, and it makes an entire room smell really nice without much effort. You just have to turn the sticks over once a day or so, supposedly to keep them from drying out.

I put one small bottle in my living room last night, and my house smelled like lavender when I left this morning.

My worst bday involves my ex. We had been dating for a couple of years and finally moved in together. He was never a big gift giver but this year he had really built up the excitement by telling me things he had seen and wanted to get me but it wasn't the right gift or wasn't good enough so naturally I let my mind go crazy with possabilities. On my bday he was working so I decided to make a "Girls day" out of it. Around the evening I get a call saying that hes home but his "asshole boss" (a guy who I had been hearing about for months now and who was making him work more hours, stay later, etc) was making him go back because they had no one to work at night. I was disappointed but he told me my gift was waiting for me at home and I decided to go out to dinner with some friends. I get home and see my gift waiting for me on the kitchen table all wrapped and pretty. I see a card and was pretty shocked because another thing he wasn't the best at was other kinds of sentimental things. The card said that he picked out the gift as something to make our apartment more of a "home" so of coarse I was excited. Wasn't it a new coffee machine? no way smaller. Maybe new fancy glasses? I open it up to see one of these. Thinking it must be some kind of joke I go to bed thinking Id be woken up in an hour or two by a laughing boyfriend asking me if I liked my joke gift. Well I got woken up at around 4am by my phone going off like crazy. Really confused I answered it and instantly started getting yelled at by my boyfriend telling me he was in jail and I needed to come get him now. I was now extremely confused and worried and all I could think of was "wtf happened?!". So I get in my car and drive down to the jail, getting lost a bunch of times. Apparently he had already been bailed out but his car had been impounded so he needed a ride. I assumed he could just be bailed out from money in his bank account and assumed wed deal with it in the morning. So in the car hes still really agitated telling me he had been trying to get in touch with me for hours and didn't really want to talk about what happened. I kept pushing it and he told me that he got pulled over because of his extremely dark tints and I thought the reason he didn't want to tell me was because I told him they were a bad idea from the start and he had already been pulled over for them before. On top of that he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. So I guess he thought I was just gonna leave it at that but I know that you wont get arrested for that so now my mind is going crazy again wondering if he was drinking or if he started arguing with the cop. So after more pushing to try to figure out wtf happened he ended up telling me that when the cop ran his license and "it mustve been a glitch" but it came up as suspended. I knew that it wasn't a glitch because he wouldn't have to be bailed out or had other shit to deal with but I didn't want to fight I just wanted to go home. We get home and hes bitching at me about not taking my gift out of the box and put it out etc and tells me he was allowed to get some stuff out of the car before it was going to be impounded and got my "wallet" out. I was really confused because last I checked I had my wallet in my purse as he hands me a pink wristlet. It looks brand new so I'm thinking okay I get it that other gift was the joke gift (forgot to mention he was a big practical joker and really liked to mess with me but in the end we both laughed so it didn't matter) and this wristlet and whatever was in it was my real gift. So with a huge smile on my face I grab it and open it to see another girls used makeup. I'm still really confused to I say I don't get it and he said whats not to get?! he was allowed to take personal items out of the car before it got impounded and he thought Id need my wallet. So I tell him its not mine and he says "okay your makeup thing, whatever its called". I ask him if this is a joke and he getting angry and asks me why I would even think it was a joke and I tell him its because its not my makeup. So he gives me a weird look and I don't even have to push it before he starts getting angry and telling me that "oops" like he doesn't give a crap and tells me that there was no "Asshole boss" hes really been seeing his ex this entire time and I put 2 and 2 together to figure out that that's where hes been every time hes supposedly been working late. So I immediately start packing my stuff (luckily I had just moved in so I didn't have a tremendous amount of stuff there). Pretty much everything I had packed he put outside the front door so I had to walk down the block to my car with my dog, about 6 duffle bags worth of stuff, and a box, and a rock band set, oh and an xbox. I packed out my car and then had to call my mom to tell her I was coming to stay there, oh and it was still before 8 am so just me calling that early was kind of a shock to her. Lets just saying I had a bunch of explaining to do.

Ugh that's pretty much the end of my long ass terrible birthday story. Hope it made you laugh and have a slightly better day. Either way I hope you have a happy birthday!

She might have trouble sleeping the night before the exam. Maybe get her a sleeping mask, a lavender reed diffuser to help her relax at night, some ear plugs in case the hotel is noisy at night, and snacks. Go to Whole Foods and pick up some of the healthy and tasty snacks they have. Something light and easy to eat.

Well I just found this precious cactus diffuser on their (very nicely curated) Amazon page and it is somehow in my cart already https://www.amazon.com/ROUND-AROUND-Fragrance-Diffuser-Honeybunny/dp/B076Z9829W?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_17752633011

I just got this reed diffuser a few days ago, I would recommend it. Faint but noticeable clean smell whenever I enter my room.

Oh my god don't spend $50 on a diffuser! You can seriously use any glass bottle with a narrow opening, 25 drops of any essential oil from Whole Foods or any health food store/stores that sell tarot cards and witchy shit (or online, like this on amazon), 1/4 cup of a carrier oil like sweet almond oil or safflower oil, and throw that in your glass bottle with some bamboo skewers. Then you have a reed diffuser and tons of refills, and you can mix essential oils for whatever scent you want.

I agree, I have this "clean scented" reed diffuser and it's wonderful. It lasts a long ass time too (~4 months now and still half of it).
